Hey I forgot to mention I just saw a news headline that terrorist's have hijacked a plane full of cellists in Amsterdam. They called down to ground control with their list of demands and added that if their demands weren't met, they are prepared to release one cellist every hour!
These guys are despicable !!!!
Hey I forgot to mention that's not too bad a joke.
I get it but also don't get it.
It seems it would make more sense if it were banjo players or accordionists as those are maligned instruments. But I'm not at all aware of the cello having any such status.
Here's my favourite banjo joke, from one of my absolute favourite musicans in the world, Harry Manx, who I've met twice at his gigs. He tells it on stage before playing banjo. Something like:
"I did a gig the other night and left one of my banjos in my car. I came back to the car to find it had been broken into. My banjo hadn't been taken and there were six others alongside it."
You've really gotta check this guy out as he's excellent on guitar, banjo, mohan veena (a very special slide instrument), harmonica and vocals.
Nice groovin' track bro. I'm just as impressed as the rest that this is all Cello. Especially how your able to exude those chugs and riffs with the bow. You do know that the next step for you now is to take that bow to your guitar ala Jimmy Page. I have to ask though, what in the world prompted you to want to learn to play the cello? Just curious. Anyhow back to the track...another mentionable note is how you maintained the structure and didn't go off on a 3 or 4 minute jam which keeps it relatively short compared to most of your tracks. Even though the cello is definitely the star in this, there is also quite a bit of tasty synth sprinkled in there as well. I'm not so sure about categorizing this as Metal. Maybe "Hard Cello" or "Progello" would be more realistic. Irrespective, you certainly are blazing a new trail here which is what we really dig here at Looperman and what we all aspire to be able to do. You continue to raise the bar for all of us in terms of that. Loads of props on what you have been able to accomplish in a relatively short time in regard to the Cello.
I too am damn surprised that this all this riffage comes from a cello. What I have learnt over the years is that if you put pretty much anything through some fat (guitar) distortion, you'll mostly be hearing the distortion. Sure, you get the pitch changes (ie the notes) but the timbre of the instrument is very much overpowered by the distortion. But you can still take advantage of some of the weird tones you can get from bowing. The kind that I hit unintentionally because I don't yet know what I'm doing and have poor control.
"take that bow to your guitar ala Jimmy Page."
I don't think so. You can't bow individual strings because of the flat neck and you'll get the rosin that you put on the bow on the guitar strings. I've not really seen Page do it but I'll bet he only does pretty simple stuff.
"what in the world prompted you to want to learn to play the cello?"
I have meant for a good few years now to start playing another instrument. Actually, I got a banjo for Christmas in 2011 and, as you know, have put that in quite a few tracks. But it is kind of a limited instrument/sound. I need to keep expanding my musical repertoire and the main way I do that is with new synth sounds. But playing an actual new physical instrument seems like an even better idea, though much more challenging (and expensive).
I've probably wanted to play cello since about 16 and I am very much a stringed instruments musician so I thought I should get on with it. I'd like to play (or at least get the sound of) various Indian instruments but I'm not sure which would suit me. I've had a sitar since 1998 but it's a bastard on the hands and I don't know anything about the tuning. I never play it (partly because I don't want to lacerate my fingers).
I quite like your Progello term and will see what my cello teacher thinks of it. It also sounds like it might be some sort of medical product (a gel). But don't you like 'cellometallo'? Makes me think of Nutella.
"you maintained the structure and didn't go off on a 3 or 4 minute jam"
Yes. I'm really happy with the structure and length. The track is actually quite minimal (especially for me), with instruments only introduced when they need to be and not much layering going on. As always, there are loads of little details and fills (the nuances) to look out for but there aren't as many things to listen to at once as in most of my stuff.
Yes, I really like the synth work. I perhaps could have got some high lead cello work in there but I find it hard. However, in the few weeks since I made this, I've improved a bit so there's shitloads of lead high cello in my latest track (Everything Where it Should Be), which is nearly ready to upload.
"you certainly are blazing a new trail here"
Yes. Do not hold your breath waiting for anyone else to upload a cellometallo track to Looperman.
OMG, I'm embarrassed for not recognizing you Rich! Its been quite a while since I've gone through a lot of my older music or thought about some of the names. I knew there was something very familiar about that voice and sound. I wasn't far off though was I (ha ha) !
Geezus, very cool to have you drop in on us bro. Please by all means post as many tracks as you like on here man. Looking forward to hearing the track with Steve, he was one of my faves back then and such a freakin bad ass player. Lots of luck with the studio, keep us posted.
Welcome to Looperman Rich, and have to say you certainly know how to rock. I just recently discovered you and had to immediately check out your other tracks. I dig your style which seems to be quite reminiscent of the 80's hairband era, in which we saw some pretty incredible bands and most definitely some spectacular guitar players emerge. You really are the whole package bro, write, play sing. I gotta say your voice sounds remarkable close to Mike Tramp, lead singer for the band "White Lion"!
Anyhow, I thoroughly dig the track and everything I have heard from you thus far. From reading your profile I would venture to say you are probably far more of an accomplished musician than the vast majority of us here, but having said that, there is a load of talent here as well, and many that most definitely will get jazzed checking out your work. Thanks for posting and for allowing the downloads. Looking forward to hearing more from you. Its also cool to hear from a fellow Texan, let alone a neighbor !

wow thank you , I have known Mike Tramp for a long time. He also lives in Dallas.I have a few pictures with Vito. Amazing guitar player.I will download a song I cc-wrote with Steve Stevens he even played on the track. It's had to miss the Ray Gun....lol Singing is not my choice I am a bass player first.I would rather someone else handle vocals.I am humbled by your kind words,it makes me want to write even more songs. I have about 75 songs now and I'm not quite done building my home studio here in Garland Tx Dragon Fly Studio coming soon...
TG, Yeah man very dope mix here bro. I have thought about trying some hip hop myself. Really like your take, especially all the funky guitar flavoring! The HEMANIFEZT acapella was a great match up. Definitely got my attention.
Thanks, appreciate your comments. You should try doing something Hiphopy, I saw on your profile that you do a wide range of songs and styles, should be interesting to see!
Quite a hardcore mix bro. As Evan said very Mastodon sounding riffage. It's a tough track but definitely needs the ceiling brought down. Your loosing a lot of dynamics here. I wanted to crank it but couldn't. I also think you should work on the arrangement some. This is a brutally heavy track which I totally dig. Hope you will give it just a bit more massaging to improve some of the issues.
That's one amazing track Evan, absolutely my fave of yours so far. Immediately loved the slide guitar and wood block intro which all too quickly dissolves as you lead into the bass and percussion section of the ensuing Middle Eastern groove. This really changes the song dramatically and I'm wondering where your going with this. Very StaticNomad like - Hmm?
I can tell by the wave form that dynamics are about to change again but I'm totally unprepared for the sonic tsunami that's about to hit.
I like the nice little "tink" there just prior to impact.
YEAH, awesome metal chordage and this baby is Full-on rockin!
I thoroughly enjoyed the arrangement and how you vary it up back and forth, Middle East vibe, more brutal rockin and then you slide back into that Slide with more accompaniment for the outro. Loads of tasty stuff crammed into this track bro. Your really coming on strong Evan, major props on this one man.
Well Steve I must admit I never was much of a fan of the 70's Disco era. But there was some pretty cool things happening music wise that developed and ushered in the new wave / electronic sounds of the 80's. To me this track is really representative of that time period and one artist in particular -Thomas Dolby. That synth hook line is very close to the one he used in "She Blinded me with Science". I played the grooves outta that album!
Really slick production here bro. Totally dig your keyboard work, nice BIG wall of sound and the funky fills are a cool contrasting element to the orchestration. Very dynamic and suspenseful sounding track.
All those songs contributed to the synthesis of this one. Thomas Dolby.. love his work. Hyperactive, and Close but no cigar are two of my fav songs from him.
nice comment my friend.

I really dig this track. Nicely minimal and great lyrics !
I have an old track where I used a repeating one word vocal but don't think I ever uploaded it.
Pretty cool man, sometimes the simpler tracks are not so simple. My question is... why didn't you title it "Bun" !
Hey Mr. Static !
Man this track immediately shot straight to #1 on my Looperman Billboard 100. Far and away my favorite of yours to date. As much as it is undeniably StaticNomad there's quite a bit of uncommon things in here as your tracks go. I like how you just dove right in with the heavy distorted groove but I was totally taken by surprise with that ensuing riff. The sound reminds me of Steelpans or Jamaican steel drums. Awesome !!!! I absolutely love it man. Its such a contrast but that's what makes it cool. Where do you come up with this stuff?
Oh man that is a sweet and oh so tasteful lead with the resonator slide. Besides delay and reverb what other effect if any are you using there? Nice tempo changeup there at 2:11 with a more intense lead and then a nice chord drop before reverting back on the tempo. Some low register stuff becomes apparent around 2:53 as the bass line gets a dominant role. This is a really cool section where you run with the bass a few bars with the background swells and heavy toms. Then its onto the Psychedelic mid section. Lots of crazy buildup of tension and BAM! We drop off into the Abyss of Bass and some way "Groovy" spacial ambience. Am I hearing reverses in there? I cant believe Evan didn't rag on you about that! But it is cool and fitting. The last section takes us back into the main groove with some nice outro leadage on a more mellow side, leading up to that nice smooth and melodic fade of an ending.
Great stuff here bro, truly one of your best.
I too though question the title. I always question titles by the way. I'm guessing it's meaning has to do with the Deepness or Heavy nature of this beast. To which I would then say its appro-po.
Take care my friend, and Thanks for opportunity to sample this gem.
A longish and good review from you - the kind I like and prefer.
I've got somewhat used to this track's title (gotta have one) after not liking it much. If you have any better suggestions let me know and I may well choose a more suitable one. The Evanator had a go but none of his offerings quite fit.
"there's quite a bit of uncommon things in here as your tracks go."
If/when I stop adding those surprises, I suspect I'll be making music that's boring to me and no interesting progression or evolution.
Yeah, straight in with the low end riffage, then the lead melodic is a nice surprise. When I tried that 'clean over heavy' idea out and it seemed to fit, I knew I could be onto something special. A fun contrast and I'm glad you pointed out the Jamaican steel drums thing as I get what you mean but hadn't thought of it in those terms. Yes, quite a metallic chimey tone to that guitar part that I wasn't initially happy with but various EQing got it to its current state. Total fluke that it sounds like that - I was just going for a decent, clean, far out (ie plus delay) sound.
Yeah, a good resonator sound here. Mine is not a good quality guitar (those seem to be a lot more expensive) so I always have to add effects and do some processing in the computer. It's just some added delay and reverb here, maybe some EQ, so very standard stuff. A fair bit of poorer quality resonator sounds in my tracks but sometimes I have to keep those parts because the playing's good.
"low register stuff becomes apparent around 2:53"
Yes - first bit of bass guitar in this. Some quite tasteful grooving.
"Am I hearing reverses in there?"
No reverses in the track. Everything that sounds like that is timestretched guitar parts, of which there are shitloads scattered all over the place. Some sound a lot like voices.
"truly one of your best"
Thanks but it'll be much better when I go back and fix the far too loud and oppressive sub bass. I got some better headphones for Christmas and now I can hear that the sub is way too loud in this (and a few other tracks). I did not enjoy listening back to this version when writing this and checking what you had written with your time references. Just because of the oppressive bass.
You'll probably also enjoy the hard rocking track this one came from. Not as good but there's still some cool stuff, including some timestretched guitar parts. And the sub is also way too heavy! Don't know why no one has pointed that out. Maybe my headphones are too bassy.
Finally, I did reply to you on that forum post about you doing album artwork, basically saying 'yes'. Been working remixing and remastering loads of album tracks since then, freshly inspired by your offer.
Ah man, I dig it bro!
Miles was one cool cat, probably the guy who actually put the "cool" in jazz, and one bad ass trumpeteer.
Definitely one of the most recognized figures and most influential in jazz history. I like the fusion here and the balance between the instruments. A nice lazy groove with some sweet, tasteful runs back and forth. Pretty awesome mix and the vinyl cracks and pops really adds a nostalgic feel. Thanks so much for the hip trip my man. By all means keep them coming!
Thanks dude!Yes miles is the man,as a guitar player I have learned so much from his recordings and jazz in general it has opened up my ear to so much. Glad you took time to comment.HNY.
Hey Mark, Dude you blew me away with this cover man !
Its not everyday that someone takes on such a classic track as this. Its obvious that you put a ton of work into it and the finished product is undoubtedly very cool. With these covers, unlike some people who are so critical at how they compare to the original, I do like to see a pretty close reproduction with the music but also enjoy the differences in how you make it your own. My hats off to you bro, I love it! The one idea that did come to mind as I listened it was maybe a cool modern twist would be to add some vocoded effect to the vocals. I think that's where you will receive the most critique on this. Great work regardless, I thoroughly love to see the cover tracks and this is one of the best examples in quite a while.
Wow ty Neo,
I stewed over the vocals for a while....what to do, what to do.
I appreciate the compliments my friend. Definitely the biggest cover song I have done yet....and far more difficult than when I covered Stairway To Heaven.
This was more about personal accomplishment for me and I really feel good about it.
Mark.
Lots of ways you could go with it but I would work on some lyrics and get a vocal track worked up and then see where you need to go. That main groove reminds me of Becks "Loser". Yeah, definitely has potential.
Hey Aaron, great to see the Sloedirt posting !
I havent been on here too much lately, busy working on some new material. I dig this track man, pretty cool pella and even cooler accompaniment. The keys in there are a nice contrast against the heavy rhythms. Actually gives it that sinister feeling. Pretty decent guitar work too, I'm already seeing/hearing you coming along with that. Its also cool to notice that remnants of the Valvedriver still lurks in the shadow of this new persona.
Happy to see you moving along my friend.
If your new material is the doom metal track I just listened to, I'm glad you were working on it! I left a comment for ya.
" Its also cool to notice that remnants of the Valvedriver still lurks in the shadow of this new persona."
I don't think that ValveDriver part of me will ever really die. It's like I told somebody in my reply to their comment on "...And Life Went On" I don't think the music is really going to sound that different to you guys, but for me, it's coming from a place that's far more pure and natural. With Valve, it was kind of a forced darkness with the intent to disturb. Now it's just a love for the darker sounds and making them fit together with a good natural flow. But, I guess that's pretty much all any musician does, right?
Thanks for havin' a listen and for the kindness, man. I truly appreciate it.
mrroads, you threw me with the Cinematic labeling as well. I love the production here, lots of tasty guitars and effects swirling in my head. Really funky yet futuristic. Very cool stuff man, wishin it was longer.
Hey Kikajon, man I really enjoyed your track bro.
Reminds me a lot of Dire Straits or Mark Knophler.
Very cool slide too, that was a bit of a surprise. Your vocals are quite distinct and despite my lack of understanding Swedish I thought you did a great job. Drums and bass are really strong in here too.
I like your style man, I will be checking out some more of your material soon.
Thanks mateĀ for the kind words. I was a couple of months since I recorded anything but hopefully it will happen again soon. Again, thank you for listening and commenting.
Hey madscape, nice to have another rocker join the fray.
Pretty sweet rhythm track you've matched up nicely with Metaleds' pella. I dig the lead as well. Yeah Metaled has a lot of great material in his repertoire. I have downloaded a few of his loops and vocal tracks but like Katz, haven't put them to good use yet.
I like your heavy styling man and will definitely be checking out more of your tracks asap.
Thanks man! I truly appreciate the welcomes from everyone! I'm very humbled actually how kewl everyone is here. I look forward to checking everyone's material out as well.
Very appreciative to hear so much talent on here! It lifts my spirits to no end!
Hey Evan, you had my attention from the gun trying to figure out the only spoken words there at :04. Any significance?
This is a guitar laden classic man. I really enjoyed the Bunnies and Meadows intro-lude. Super job of layering guitars throughout, which you have quite the ability to do and do well. I love the happy guitar in the beginning with some nice accompaniment from bass, the swing drumming and cool orchestration. Very good stuff. You could have made a full track around this. Pretty cool transition at :54 with some sweet fluting and some sound effect that sounds like a bunch of wood hammering. (what is it?) The ensuing groove brings in the sustained guitar(s)the swing drums and some nice acoustic fills. Now I got to tell you at 1:40 when you break off the bass and drums and the strumming uke's come in, I nearly shit. That is F'n cool and very reminiscent of a classic Zepplin track off the ZOSO LP, which is one of my all time faves, "The Battle of Evermore". Dude, you slayed me!
The last bit sounds like an extended ending without ever really establishing a beat. Its cool as it is but you could easily extend the song by bringing in some bass and drums on that for awhile and I'm thinking it would sound pretty good, but that's up to you. All in all I would say this is a pretty epic demonstration of your ability in composition and production. You've got some serious talent bro, and I'm not blowing smoke up your ass. You could do this professionally. There's quite a few on here that could but your definitely one of only a few who work predominately in Rock that just clearly has it.
I hope you do something with it.
It's a chuckle with delay. I guess it would be the word "knee" if it was a word. Not meant to be. Kind of a George W., sneering, ratty type laugh. No significance.
"some sound effect that sounds like a bunch of wood hammering. (what is it?)"
Taiko drum loops. I have a ridiculous library of them, all broken down into their single elements, or together.
"the strumming uke's come in,"
That's my acoustic doing a made-up chord. I'm detuned a half step, playing A-0, D-10, G-9, B-10, E-0. No low E. Then it's a bar across those same strings for the second "chord".
I would probably go for a mandolin over a ukelele. I've looked into it. $400 and I'd be in business.
I think the only thing I will be doing to the second half is getting the second solo eq a bit better. First one sounds better.
I appreciate the kind words. I'm pretty sure I will have to get a SHIT-TON better before a dollar would ever be spent to hear my sound. I like it, and it just keeps coming out, so I gotta do something with it!
I love that bass !
Nice take on Greg's track SH. Bit of a latin Jazz flavoring.
Really has loads of commercial potential. I need to go and check out more of Greg's stuff. There's so much of an influx of new talent here now, it's hard to listen to it all.
Keep us posted on this one bro.
Unbelievable pipes Carole. This is the first track I've heard of yours, so I have to make a point to check out your repertoire. I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I have no idea what this song is or have any familiarization with Bregovic's work but I do recognize and appreciate a beautiful voice.
Thanks for letting us sample your amazing talent.
Hello Neomorpheus,
No need to feel embarrassed at all, please !
None of us knows everything and everyone, huh ? :)
I do thank you for your very nice comment (and surely undeserved !).
Peace,
Carole
Spiv I love the energy and the aggressive nature here!
I couldn't help but ditch the headphones and crank the volume on this baby! I don't go full tilt on many track samplings, but when I do, its on.
Yeah you really packed some awesome "electro-synth-esis" into this. And I especially love how you drive it home there around 4:45.
Your a 100% total electronic renaissance man.
I'm definitely plugged in.
Hey NM, I really appreciate your words! I think that is one of the failings of my albums, is that different songs entice you to hear it in different ways... you know headphones vs hifi vs computer speakers etc... I take a different approac on most songs, so it makes sense. Notice the things I listed though, and phones are not mentioned... I have no way to test this playback, and hopefully will never... I'd rather not have a phone at all than have a computer in my pocket. Glad you cranked it loud, I try to make songs for exactly that setting, where you feel like turning a knob and rockin it. The outro vocals were very indulgent, and the track might not have ever been finished if it weren't for the need to make them right. Your words are very welcome, thank you!
Well here I am just waking up, grabbed a cup of coffee and decided to check out some tracks and this is the first one I listen to. I hope the coffee kicks in soon cause this put me back in la la land!(haha)
A beautiful and relaxing melody. Very interesting drums at the intro. It does bear some resemblance to Legend of Zelda.
Great track Orlando, now I'm off for a second cup of coffee !

Take care...

I stewed over the vocals for a while....what to do, what to do.
I appreciate the compliments my friend. Definitely the biggest cover song I have done yet....and far more difficult than when I covered Stairway To Heaven.
This was more about personal accomplishment for me and I really feel good about it.

Take care, man.

Very appreciative to hear so much talent on here! It lifts my spirits to no end!

"spoken words there at :04. Any significance?"
Take care, and try to stay in the AC.

Nice take on Greg's track SH. Bit of a latin Jazz flavoring.
Really has loads of commercial potential. I need to go and check out more of Greg's stuff. There's so much of an influx of new talent here now, it's hard to listen to it all.
Keep us posted on this one bro.
Has a nice flair and direction, that Island feel...
Yes check him out, there are a few things that
maybe a challenge for you, have some fun...
We are glad you enjoyed it...

No need to feel embarrassed at all, please !
None of us knows everything and everyone, huh ? :)
I do thank you for your very nice comment (and surely undeserved !).

A beautiful and relaxing melody. Very interesting drums at the intro. It does bear some resemblance to Legend of Zelda.
