Beautifully composed track Orlando. I can definitely pick up Eds signature sound and structuring. He's a master of smooth ! I love the feeling and beauty that this track instills on my soul. Thanks for such an experience.
Great suspensful and high anxiety mood mix here lAVel. I would say this is more Cinematic than Ambient but it can qualify as either I guess. Certainly provides us the mental window for some nice sinister imagery, as some of which you mention in the description. I totally dig the ending. Good stuff !
"for the late night walks down a dark alley" or through orc infested black lands on the outskirts of Mordor! LOTR dream sequence-esque for sure, which is waaay cool man. Yeah I agree with Wobbin who agreed with Cru. Also the ending is a bit abrupt. Sounds like you were going for a reverse but it didnt quite finish. Good stuff nonetheless bro.
StaticBromad, another cellatious track here man. I really dig the transition at the half into the techno groove and especially how you chugged to the beat with the bow there. Pretty cool! As always you concocted quite a sonically charged linear mixture of sounds and elements that my audioception sense found quite pleasing. It is a bit long maybe, which is the only criticism I have.
Besides Kargalar I have noticed other people comment that your tracks sound cinematic which probably relates to the cello and that orchestration is so prevalent in movie soundtracks. Hey as far as your question though regarding others using cello I ran across a couple of bands that you might be interested in checking out.
Shitloads of cello here, and in yet another style for me, which is surely a bit of a progression.
"the techno groove and especially how you chugged to the beat with the bow there"
Yes - that bowed chugging is called spiccato and I think it's really funky playing along with the solid drum loop and synth arp bass. Cello does not obviously go with techno so I had to spend a while trying out loads of things. This was, at many different points, really quite difficult to make and I'm not done yet as I agree that it's probably a bit too long. I will go back and try to remove some sections from the last 2 mins though it may not be a simple task.
Thanks for letting me know about The Green Children as that band looks quite interesting. 2 Cellos I know very well and they are up there as some of my favourite musicians on the planet. Their skill and accuracy is exceptional and I swear they rock as hard as the very hardest rocking of bands anywhere in the world. Their cover of Voodoo People is totally badass though they don't actually play it as a techno cello track - it mostly sounds like a straight ahead rock song. Live it's just two cellos plus a drummer so no techno elements.
I went to see them in concert a few months ago in Greenwich, in London. They were playing in a very picturesque location - the Old Royal Naval College. They both studied music there and their cello teacher was in the audience. The building has some serious history and has been used in loads of films, some of which I bet you've seen (Patriot Games, Bond films, Tomb Raider etc). Have a look at their full list here:
Hey Wobbin, really groovy Halloween track here bro. The intro synth melody is classic cinematic horror theme. A lot of production work in here that takes us on quite a fun little journey through a managerie of scary soundscapes and effects. Looking forward to hearing the completed version.
Thanks Neomorpheus!
Classic intro indeed. I can not play piano actually so I was just messing around sketching idea's until i've found out that this small and very simply tone ladder actually had the perfect effect and tonality.Pretty sure it might not be original, but it works :)
I hope to finish the piece within a few days!

Hey Cru, definitely diggin this this track, its an awesome club mix for sure. I will download and try to get it in the hands of some friends who DJ at some of the most happing clubs here in "Big D". Cant wait to hear it crankin at the Lizard Lounge!
Thanks for that. I would love to hear this track on a club sound system and see the reaction of the people as they hear and dance to it. That would be awesome. Lizard lounge has a great reputation, i even know of it up here in Canada. Thanks for the props and help.
Steve
Hey Katz, yeah man I'm just now getting to the Halloween tracks and find you and I both took a similar direction this year. Certain blues can be pretty haunting and you nailed the vibe here for sure. Some really sweet slide bro, The guitar sounds awesome, and great job with the bass and drums as well. The Doom Blues are happnin, this Halloween !
YAAAYY!!Doom blues \m/ I love how haunting the delta slide blues can be, so full of soul and emotion. Thanks Neo B-D I'm going to make some more halloween tunes, wouldn't be right without a zombie and witch one! Both almost complete.
Wow, that's some tight mood music PJB, very film noir. The bass track is so f'n swanky, sounds like is it played on a fretless ? Such a killer production wise, you really schooled us with this one bro. I know we don't get to see stuff from you so frequent so this is really a treat. Big props and much thanks for the DL !
Hey Neo thanks man!..yeah the bass is played on my acoustic electric fretless 5 which I built, black nylon tapewound strings give it a not quite but close upright sound, thanks for the support mate very much appreciated!..cheers Dave :)
DP I have a feeling you are going to gain instant Looperman hero status with this release. Members here with any significant amount of time will undoubtedly raise a glass in your honor today bro.
Its definitely got great potential bro. I dig the music but also feel the vocals need some work from the EQ side. Kyle hits the nail with his suggestions regarding the high pass filtering and mixed buss compression. I listened to a few of your other tracks that contain vocals and you obviously know how to dial this stuff in. So yeah, give it another once over and let us hear the final version. There's only a handful of head banger's on here so I'm always exited to see some Metal submissions.
Thank you for your generous comment. My mixing skills are so rusty I am having to learn all over again. Hoping this one is better than the first one you heard. I re-uploaded the track so have another listen please.
Very reminiscent of the 80's hair band ballads. The chord progression is pretty close to poisons "Every Rose has its Thorn". Yeah bro, I like this a lot. Like the others have pointed out its very raw and clean. I imagine you on a classic episode of MTV's Head bangers ball playing this live! And then Bret Michaels walks on stage !!!! \m/
I actually kind of had a Guns and Roses idea when I did this. I just wanted something slowed down and not too cluttered to do some lead guitars over. Was diggin the Synths so made them a little more prominent.
Yeah Tee,
way to stick with it. The Metaled vox is much improved.
I think the widened approach works better and adds a distinctive element between the two vocal tracks.
Very cool tune.
Very cool track here bro, sort of reminds me of some early Bowie in his Ziggy Stardust phase with Marc Bolan on guitar. I love the music but feel the vocals need some work, primarily the male voice (3:00 mark). You might try double tracking it and spreading it more to the sides to get it to more open areas. That effect on the voice is hard on the ears too. Trim the high levels a bit. Adding vocals to a track is a whole new ball game. Its why I dont do it (ha ha)! Very interesting track bro, I dig what your doing. Maybe just a little fine tuning is necessary.
Hey Neo, thanks for your comments, I read them carefully a few times and tried to adjust what you and the others mentioned. I never done such a track before, I usually move around rock, blues and a bit of rock-hop - so it was a first for me. Yes, vocals, that's a challenge, absolutely. So anyway, I tried some stuff, if you feel like it give it another listen, let me know what you think. Thanks again for your input, priceless!!
This is great Beats, real swanky mix.
It easy to imagine this as the soundtrack of some 20's gangster movie, or maybe more appropriately something like Sin City which is more film noir.
I dig it man.
Hey TD,
Props on the vox bro. This track reminds me of some of the great old gospel motown hits, Aaron Neville is the first that comes to mind. I Dig the emotion and conviction in your voice. Great job bro, keep em coming.
Love the arpeggio melody Ookami and super deep synth bass really thumps the ol subs. I also dig the pitch shifting on the lead, that's really retro. I did a little bit of a similar thing on my Neo Star Trek track. Tempo change and loads of stereo effects really pump up the production value. Pretty awesome track here bro from all perspectives. I'm going to have to get back into some electronic stuff here soon myself. I'm feeling the need especially after hearing this. Big thumbs up GO !
Thanks for your awesome words! I totally encourage you to come back into the Electronic world. Its missed you, my friend. Haha. This track came out really nice though, and I love the support!
You certainly wield a wicked Cello in this one bro. Loads of interesting elements here especially in regards to time signature and tempo. It almost feels like a movie score to like a Quentin Tarantino version of Lawrence of Arabia. I envision the harem girl sequence as 1:22 to 2:43 with some nice belly dancing nubiles but it could have been a little longer ! Love the effects on the cello, sounds like some overdrive/distortion in spots. Groovy stuff man, you would have been a God to the hippies with this if you were around in the late 60's early 70's man. You need to find a time machine!
Anyhow, you know I'm always tuned in and turned on to your groove channel.
"You certainly wield a wicked Cello" is a cool phrase.
You know I've been concentrating on the cello for the last 4 months or so and trying to get it to do as much as I can in each track it appears in. I'm not really big on practice on any instrument so this is my way of finding a reason to play and try out new techniques and stuff as I learn this somewhat difficult instrument.
So, so much cello in this, including a few slightly different playing techniques. As regards time signature and tempo, yes I keep the drums moving through different styles. If I hadn't done that, I'm sure the track would feel long and samey and boring and as if it hadn't really gone anywhere.
"movie score to like a Quentin Tarantino version of Lawrence of Arabia."
That's an interesting idea and I know what you mean and it could work really well. I recently rewatched Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds and I thought a lot more of it than I did on first viewing (I now really like it). I bring the film up because it had some cool, odd musical choices in it that gave things a really interesting feel. There's even a David Bowie song in it!
"harem girl sequence as 1:22 to 2:43 with some nice belly dancing nubiles"
Yes - I get that sort of feel from it as well. Sorry that section wasn't longer but I knew I had loads more sections to get to so I thought I wouldn't hang around and just get right on with the next one (which has some really powerful cello riffage).
"Love the effects on the cello, sounds like some overdrive/distortion in spots."
I was pretty sure that I hadn't used any overdrive on the cello in this but there might be in some of the darker swing jazz sections in the middle. Otherwise the effects are just delay, reverb and chorus plus some amp modelling from my guitar floor effects unit.
"you would have been a God to the hippies with this if you were around in the late 60's early 70's man"
Quite possibly. Maybe I can still be a god to them 40/50 years later (and beyond).
"You need to find a time machine!"
That may well be possible:
"The DeLorean Motor Company has announced its intention to manufacture the iconic DMC-12 sports car again..."
I consider good chillout pretty much a drug without the harmful side effects. Certainly better for you than popping a lude, vallium or any of a host of barbituates to completely mellow out. AND best of all, here on Looperman its FREE !
All kidding aside, you really nailed down a super mood mix here. I especially like the jazzy bits and the seductive elements as well.
A really slick composition Silve, I dig it man.
Thanks Neo. Quite a few relaxed ones I've done now and I'm discovering .... fast and furious and you can get away with more mistakes but slow and gentle not so much so.
Lot more attention to detail needed.
Thanks for listening mate.
Dude, this is some seriously killer stuff !
I had to stop and go directly to your tracks page to check out more. Your really pushing the limits on this one but I didn't notice any clipping in the mix. I like it LOUD !
Love the progressive guitar work, perfect blend of powerchordage and highly melodic rhythm. Brutal yet beautiful. Superb man. I'm gonna be one of your biggest fans here.
Hey B, yeah great start here and props on steppin up with something postive to offset so much of the negative being dished right now. The world needs more love and understanding and for real, senseless violence and killing will never solve anything. Its time to unite against this and music is a proven method to reach many. Hope to see you finish this bro.
That intro is much like app chaggi to the solar plexis, sans the hoo choo. Hits hard from the gun for sure. Really dig how you counter the aggression at mid point and mello it out a bit. But then back hard on the throttle again. A lot of interesting percussion in here but the guitars driving that hard groove and complementing ryhthms keeps it thick and interesting. Nicely depressurized outro too. Excellently produced track man.
Hey Fatal, dope track bro.
Your gonna laugh but this reminds me a lot of some 60's Psychedelic rock with respect to the vocals. Ever heard Donovan's "Hurdy Gurdy Man"? Anyhow, yeah Nice really riffs it up too with some brutal downtuned stoner groove-ige! I'm digging the collab for sure.
Thanks for listening ! I am stoked you got a psychedelic rock vibe, cause i am really pushing for a stoner rock kinda thing :) yes i have heard "hurdy gurdy man" I like the song too !
I am trying to take a lot of inspiration from the vocalists and poets of the 60's and 70's .
thanks once again for listening and the kind words. YOU ROCK !
Static this is one swanky mix man!
Piano and sax section at beginning is killer cool!
What is the underlying moog sounding thing I'm hearing there at :45? Love the mellowed out mid section too, really nice chillaxed mood there between synth bass and little piano twinkles amid the sax and guitar serenade. That last section around 6:40 you go into what sounds like a whale mating call groove, that's stupid fresh bro! I assume its all cello produced but are the higher pitched tones straight or enhanced ? At any rate, this is exceptional man. Nice work.
Yes, jazzy intro sounds a lot like one of my favourite bands ever - Morphine. The cello seems to work as a replacement for Mark Sandman's bass parts there. And then we're into my big hip hop piano bassline, which really dominates as one of the main basslines for the rest of the track.
Special secret: that piano bassline was originally a drum part! I just copied a drum part to the piano track, moved some notes about and it worked (must try that again). There are also various rapid piano fills that were originally drum fills (others are played by hand) at various points in the track.
"underlying moog sounding thing I'm hearing there at :45"
is some sort of synth bass, with me carefully controlling the cutoff frequency. This isn't much of a synth track but that part there does make a difference and meshes quite nicely with the piano (an instrument I don't use often).
" little piano twinkles amid the sax and guitar serenade"
Yes, I use a second piano sound which is much lighter (and with a longer release time) than the main (bassline) piano. It's good for the tinkles and is really a lovely sound. There's not much of a guitar serenade there. When the sax returns in that chilled, funky section, there's none. That distorted stuff is all cello.
"6:40 you go into what sounds like a whale mating call groove... are the higher pitched tones straight or enhanced"
I like watching whales getting it on so thought I should make some background music for them to do it to. The distorted cello in this (which dominates proceedings after a few mins) also has loads of delay and reverb on it. It's my main heavy guitar setting on my floor effects unit, but with the distortion turned down a bit here as this isn't a heavy track.
Doing shimmering bowing with all that delay on the cello is cool fun and those whale sounds are not due to any other effects. That's just some of what you can do with bowing and the weird tones that can be used. There is a specific, strange tonal delay effect used a little a bit later but most of those weird tones are really just generated by the bow.
At 6:48 I'm really pleased with the high, lead cello playing and melody there. I'm employing a technique called spiccato, which is a word I've known for years but without actually knowing what it was. Basically, it's using the bow to hit/bounce off the strings rather than pulling it across them. So, a lot like the thumb in slap bass playing.
Thanks for dropping by to check out my new merger of sounds and bowing progress.
Very kind words from you my friend! I have just been forcing myself to move into new experimentations, and it is so pleasing that people are still enjoying the results! I appreciate you always being there with support!
