Description : Another one of my ever growing collection of lo-fi hip hop style recordings. I don't make hip hop music myself but I do have a lot of fun experimenting with drum machines and samplers to make these beats for you. This is all SP-606 recorded straight into my DAW and looped. Enjoy!

Description : Made with the Grind hybrid synth in Karplus mode. Sounds kind of atonal but is actually in Bm (or fairly close - I tested it with some matching key loops) and works better in context than it sounds on its own. Interesting synth the Grind is! FX are from my Zoom MS-70CDR+

Description : Another spacey loopy non-linear exploration made with the Kairos live looper in Reason. This device is a lot of fun but it's probably most useful for atmospheric textures and the like. Great to have in your arsenal though if you're one of the five people who still have Reason.

Description : Simple 909 hat loop made with just a sample from my RD-9 and Gate-12 trance gate plugin. Put it over a rumble kick and you're away. Also used UFX Reverb 2.

Description : Made mostly with Koala Sampler. Tried to make this sound like it's in a cave. Works well with a 4x4 beat. Only added better compression in Ableton - the rest is Koala.

Description : Still playing around with Black Friday free plugins from Waves, Hornet and Cymatics, but this time I recorded a little riff from my Juno-D and used the freebies to make it a bit more lo-fi and lounge-y. Enjoy :)

Description : Super dirty and industrial. I recorded this beat from my MC-505 about 20 years ago and just rediscovered it on an old hard drive. It is poorly recorded and has noise and hum in the signal but there's something about it that is still cool.

Description : Using Kong today, mostly to work out how to get the damn pads on my Launchkey to play the pads on the on-screen sampler (which is automatic in Ableton Drum Racks...good one Reason). The secret was custom pad mapping through the Novation Components app. Finally Kong is like my SP-606 to use. I'm rambling ... enjoy the drum loop.

Description : Juno-D running through the FX engine on the SP-606; compressor and chorus. The reverb is just from my mixing desk. Simple lead layer that works well if you filter it in slowly over another layer such as a pad. In the track I am working on this comes in over a Virus C layer and creates forward momentum.

Description : Messing about with one of Reason's oldest synths and it was surprisingly easy to still be able to come up with something dancefloor ready. I did boost the signal with NI Driver and Arturia Refract but the sound is mostly Malstrom. Sounds great if you add your own low-pass fliter to it.

Description : The old Thor still has potential for good EDM sounds. I made this groove layer with Thor and the new Sentinel Distortion from Vain Audio. Sentinel is cool because you can choose which frequencies to distort with a lot of control. Loop is in B Flat (Looperman doesn't have that option so it says B). Enjoy.

Description : I tried out a couple of new plugins on this kick: Body Builder transient shaper and Hamburger saturation. I also clipped the crap out of the 909 kick as I recorded it into the PC through my analogue mixer. The overall result is pure techno.

Description : This loop was fun to make. Lo-fi recording then chopped up into bits in the SP-606 sampler and layered with a 909 kick for extra punch. Could work well as a bridge in a hip-hop track.

Description : Bass Station 2 running though a Boss Chorus pedal. Then I added a beat repeat effect in Ableton to make it stutter. Reverb by Magic Dice.
