I am always willing to work with you brother, if you ever need anything send me a message ! I still have a couple tracks of yours that i am working some vocals into \m/
Weird!
Very basic growl.
But it works.
That is not a heavy metal voice.
But it works.
In fact the whole thing works pretty good.
Does need a bit of work doing on it.
I actually think the voice is quite wonderful against the growl.
There's a deathly pale hovering over this.
The grim reaper maybe.
The voice makes a refreshing change from the same old same old that metal seems to have fallen into.
Keep on keepin on.
Needs work dude, it's not as bad as Judah says (listen to his most recent track, he can fuck right off).
The work is needed most in the mix and a few tweaks to the transitions, metal is difficult to mix and have it sound great, very difficult, I would be willing to try my hand at mixing it and maybe even add some accompanying vocals and tweaks.
If that interests you, send me a PM with the stems uploaded somewhere, preferably with as little effects on the tracks as possible.
Thanks for the positive vibe brother ! if you want to dip your fingers in , I will dig up the stems and send them your way soon. I am looking forward to working on this with you and learning some new stuff in the process. Thanks for your time and keep rocking \m/
Sir, this is awful. There was no cadence to the music (even metal has harmony. Screamo: blow that crap up with a nuke). The entire track basically exceeded 0db. Could not understand the lyrics until I put on headphones. Sorry, but there isn't a single decent point about this song. Edit: lower the gain, throw in a bass drop, a solo guitar, and amp the lyrics. I guarantee it will be a better version.
Thank you for taking the time to listen.
"Sorry, but there isn't a single decent point about this song."
It is a shame you feel this way, I will take some of your points into consideration.
"I am still such a novice at mix downs it is almost embarrassing, I have a lot of trouble with my end results being "muddy" if that makes any sense? maybe it is just the equipment i use, but most likely it is my lack of EQ knowledge"
I get it, bro. I totally fucking get it. So does every other member here. It's absolutely nothing to be embarrased about. We all started at the bottom. Without formal training, it's an enigma that seems impossible to grasp. But, I'll tell you what, man, this site is a goldmine of knowledge, information, and advice. 99% of what I've learned about mixing, (or just music in general), I learned here. Not only in the forums, but by reading every comment on each track I listen to, and sometimes, just straight up asking.
I see you've been here for a couple years, so I'm probably telling you nothing new.
A lot of times, the "muddiness" comes from too many frequencies overlapping in the . essentially, fighting for the same spot. Sometimes, it's as simple as panning and stereo separation. If you separate your guitars to full stereo, not only does it widen up the dynamics of the track, but it creates a hole in the center where the bass guitar can settle right in with no crowding...for example.
Too many layers of the same frequencies can muddy up the joint, too. If your bass guitar is super low end, the try scooping the lowest frequencies from the kick. If they're too close to the same, it could cause clipping, or that "pumping" sound like in Trance. (But they have a sidechaining process to get that sound.)
Anyhow, I hope I'm not telling you what you already know, or insulting you with unsolicited advice.
Hey brother, You gave me a great starting point and my next track i am going to give it a try ! separating the guitars is something that i have never tried ! Thanks for the info! Advice and knowledge are never insulting in my eyes, thanks for taking the time to share something with me brother. You taught me something for sure, ROCK ON \m/
that's really cool...your vocs pushed this song to the right place...into the top league...bit depressive but stunning number...hats off for both of you...
Yes it is quite a Somber track, but over all i am happy with how it turned out. Your compliment about the vocs will make it easier for me to keep pushing in that direction. It catches some people off guard not to hear the screams mostly associated with metal. Thanks for listening, and for the positive comments, Rock on \m/
FatalDecline. First of all, that's a great metal handle.
At first I wasn't too sure about the vocal style against the music style, but after a bit, I got it. It's kind of a Fear Factory meets Korn meets Deftones thing. It's got a nice heavy vibe, even with the more droning vocals.
I think, though, that the vocals are a little muffled. They could use a bit of a scoop in the mid-low frequencies. Give them a little more transperency.
I'm on my third listen, and even though it's basically just two parts repeated throughout, I'm still really enjoying this. It works for what it is. Kudos.
Thanks brother ! My screaming days are over, So i tried a different direction. It does catch most people off guard , I have not decided if that is good or bad yet lol. I listen to def-tones and fear factory quite a bit, so the influence is there for sure!
I am still such a novice at mix downs it is almost embarrassing, I have a lot of trouble with my end results being "muddy" if that makes any sense? maybe it is just the equipment i use, but most likely it is my lack of EQ knowledge. So thank you for the advice .
Thanks for taking the time to listen, glad you enjoyed it, Keep rocking \m/
Description : I asked Danke if I could add some vocals to his track Future Machine and he kindly agreed and sent me the track. The lyrics are about a soldiers experience in war as he and his trench mates are told to get up and out of their trench and attack the enemy across open fields. I can only imagine the fear, tension and chaos that goes through one's mind at that moment.
Description : I discovered Meshuggah around 2003 and was blown away by the power, complexity and super Heavy sound of their music. Their "Nothing" album marked the switch to 8 string guitars and pushed Heavy Metal into a whole new territory. My track is a variant cover of their song "Nebulous". I have stayed pretty close to the original but added a few dynamic elements of my own. Its loud, its super heavy and way out there...Beyond Nebulous.
Description : This unconventional metal track is dedicated to Valvedriver https://www.looperman.com/users/profile/841435 though it's not a parody of his fine music or me actively trying to sound like it. I struggled for months with the first few minutes of this track knowing that I must be able to take it somewhere deeper, more psychedelic and powerful. Then I loaded some sampled choir voice instruments, as used in my track Reckful https://www.looperman.com/tracks/detail/160356 and suddenly found myself happily in Valveland - not a place I visit often. Feeling amply Valvedriven and newly inspired, I added the last few minutes fairly easily and very quickly. So: it's a twisting, turning mixture of grunge, menacing ambient, mystical metal and ultra-heavy funk. Instruments: electric guitar+bass, synth basses, female choir voices, one synth pad, some other synths on the nastier side of things and a few programmed heavy acoustic drumkits playing a mixture of triplets and straighter grooves. Interesting thoughts appreciated. Favourite bits? Shit bits? Please listen on good headphones/speakers as there's a lot of heavy bass in this. Now get ready to rock: balls out, hands in the air and with rebellious joy in your heart. Just try not to headbang the hell out of your laptop. Go!
Description : Whats up guys?! Been a while I know. Iv'e moved around a lot but have finally settled down and have been hard at work with my metal band. Unfortunately I've had to put my solo work on hold for a bit while I'm recording with the band. We are being professionally recorded now, a very big step up from the last recording of my band that I posted here. Anyways, hope you guys enjoy! We are, Raze The Pyre.
