Seplicate V2 - Spivkurl

28th May 2014 18:18 - 12 years ago
Description : Back with an update of this song- 8 June 2014. Took to heart a lot of the helpful comments I got on the earlier version, and I think the ideas helped a lot. This contains some incidental guitar work, which I'd like to dedicate to a friend who is no longer with us. (They won't get away with this!) Added some things and removed others, toned down the automation and effects slightly. It's a little longer now too. Hope you all enjoy listening! Oh yeah, BTW all the vocals are mine including the melodic parts, since some people asked.-----

New moon new song, that didn't take too long. Did this over the last few days. I went into this with some urges to fuse electro house with classic rock, so I'll call it fusion. Played some improv on my Baldwin Fanfare organ. Take what you want from it, and compost the rest. You can get the new Spivkurl album "Charting The Anomaly," which includes this track at the We Are... I'm really liking this one spiv! I love the groovy feel you get from the very start, was nodding my head the entire time. I like the vocals that come in a bit later it fits perfectly with the beat you have created. Faving this one, thanks for the listen and entertainment!

Thanks friend for your supportive comments! Electro house and classic rock are both commonly focused on groove, so I'm glad that's what you hear in this connection. I think I couldn've gotten better timing in the earlier vocals, but I'm happy with it all the same. Glad you thought the timing was good later on though. Appreciate the fave and listen!

Whenever I have logged on to Looperman and found you have posted a new track I can resist having a listen. I don't know if I'm qualified to comment at all as it's well out of my comfort zone but what I can say is I really like the sounds you make and the quality of your productions. This is no exception. Love the groove and dance feel. Great job.

Hey buddy! We don't see enough of you around hear lately, so I'm honored by your listen! Have to wonder about the fruedian slip - "i CAN resist having a listen." Not worried about it though, as you did listen... heh! Makes me happy you found some enjoyment in this tune. I've been trying to stretch myself as an artist and use more of my instruments for real audio tracks. I think it makes a difference even though I'm no expert. Thanks again for the comment!

Awesome intro. Channelling Heaven 17 and the Norm at the same time. Like you are advancing the sound of Sheffield to modern times. The Pad is brilliant at 1:00 and I love the bass in this one. Vocals at 1:35 are scary effective. This is a solid track man. Suncopation at 2:40 is a nice touch. When you sing or speak your phrases I would suggest you slap echo the last word. I like the way this tune plays out. The vocals remind me a bit of green velvet.

Hey buddy! I've only heard of the artists you mentioned, but not really heard them. I appreciate the comparison though! Also not sure what the signature sound of Sheffield would be, ao can't comment there... heh. People seem to get into the pads, and that makes me happy. I'm pretty proud of the bass in this one, especially the sub side of things, so thank you for the compliment! I appreciate that you liked the spoken word parts. I'm unsure if the syncopation is still there in the new version or not, as it could have been a side effect of the effects I was using...don't know. I took your advice on effecting the vocals, I hope you think I did well. Would love to hear your reaction to the new one. I'm enjoying the Green Velvet track you linked me to! Definitely has some similarities to what I've been working at. I really appreciate your good comments! Thanks for the fave!

As someone who likes to mix genres, I especially like this one. It definitely has a late 70's early 80's post disco feel.
The organ. Yes! I've often said there isn't enough organ work anymore. As an organ enthusiast, I love it! You did get a sweet sound on it too. It's got a very rich distortion without drowning out that signature organ sound. I've heard some distorted to the point where they just sounded like another guitar. This one toes the line, but still retains that sweet, sweet organ love! (That sounded a lot dirtier than I meant for it to.)
I really like the spoken word style vocals. It's definitely a more subdued approach than we're used to from you. I think your vocal endeavors are panning out. To be honest, I'd love to hear your take on a cover of something by The Cramps.
Nice work, man.
Take care.

Hey what's up? Thanks for having a listen and leaving your always helpful and enjoyable comments! It's nice to know there are others who are into organs like me. I can't really resist keyboard instruments when I find them, and organs are definitely my favorite. I like the Fanfare organ because it has so many options to shape the sound. I can now get a good sounding recording out of the headphone output by sending it into my direct box. Much easier than micing the speakers, and has less of that old amplifier/speaker noise. I don't quite remember what I got that overdrive sound with, but I like it. With the organ I was going for a little bit of a Doors feel, and I think that leads into the spoken word parts well. Organ love, can't go wrong with that dirty or not! I think I've been trying to outlet my anger and aggression in other ways, thus leaving my art more open to different vibes. Thanks for the support on my vocals! To be honest, I've barely listened to The Cramps ever, but I should probably take a listen now. I've made some big changes to this song since you listened, I hope you like it still. I appreciate your review!

Hey Friend

wow what fun feeling to this piece, agree a mixture of genre's, but all working so nice together as one track, to be honest this sounds like it should be on radio, has that vibe to it, again nice use of the vocals mate, you getting so good with your vocals now, more clear sounding with less effects on them, which I guess gives you more scope to use in different genre's...Totally love the listen here friend...Fav'd...Peace n MUCH Respect Pat...Mosaic...

Thanks very much for all the supportive comments! Funny you say it should be on the radio. I can't imagine what kind of station would play something like this...heh. I'm having fun doing vocals lately, and it's getting easier for me to get good recording of pretty much anything. The vocals in the middle are pretty heavily effected though. Thanks for the comment and fave!

Another cool track my friend, almost sounds a bit disco in places! Love the sounds in this and killer bassline too! Love it at 2:00 when it goes into the next part, the little vocal snippets work really well, good vocals by you also! Enjoyed this one! :)

I'm getting the feeling I'm in a disco mood, which is a little strange to say the least... wait until you hear the mix i just sent you... heh. The bass was mixed between one mid range sound and a sub bass made from analog waveforms, I kind of like the combination. All the vocals in this are me, just trying to stretch myself at the expense of appearing foolish. I hope this song will get better soon, I'm just back in collab mode, so, ya know... Thanks for the review!

I hadn't heard of the word seplicate so I looked it up on the dictionary app and it couldn't find the word. So you are creating new words to match your unique style of music, that's cool, lol.

I am not up on all the genre differences when it comes to electronic music so it sounds like another cool Spivkurl track that is a bit more subdued than some of your recent tracks. A little more relaxed approach to the vocals and they do sound good.

Well done my friend, enjoyed the track quite a bit!

Hey friend! Thanks for taking a listen! Yep, I couldn't find the word either, so I assume it's new. Pretty much defined within the song, but I don't know if it's clear. Kind of a dual meaning so far, firstly the saving and distrubution of genetic material through cloning or seperating parts of things (like suckers or root stock), secondly the free distribution of ideas and creations with the intention of molding the future with focus. I was trying to be a little more mellow with this track, especially on the vocals. It was giving me lots of CPU and software troubles while mixing, so we'll see how the next version ends up. Appreciate you leaving a comment!

Your too kind! I love sound design, so I guess that's my secret... heh. I'm proud of the organ parts, especially in the intro, pretty much the best distorted organ tone I've gotten to date. I'm hoping to improve this song soon, but they're doing construction by my house and I don't want that noise in my recordings. Thanks much for stopping in!

Spivs having a run of tunes ending in "ate" huh? Like those squelchy synths, what is that sound? Love the way it sort of swaps from tech house to house. Nice touch with the vocals. It's a pretty complex track with lots of layers and switches that keep it interesting (not like my repetative drivel)
What i love about your stuff is you never know what you're going to get and this is a pretty complicated sounding piece. It must have taken you a while to put this together.
Good stuff.

Heh, leave it up to you to notice the title thing! After searching a little, I don't think this is a word yet! I guess I'm not sure which sound you mean by "squelchy synths"... do you mean the higher frequency acid sort of bass sound? If that's the one you mean, that's a patch I set up on Fabfilter One, which I must say is a pretty high quality sounding synth. Kind of heavy on the CPU, but worth it I think. I really don't know a lot about house, just trying to do my own version of it I suppose. I think it is pretty complicated, because I kept crashing the DAW with this one, like every time I tried to render a new mix or whatever. By mastering time my CPU was at 99%. I'm going to add some things to make this better soon, and maybe redo the effects a little, because theres some things about it that bother me. I like taking people off guard with my songs, so I'm glad you like that too! Mostly done in two days, with a little more mastering work on a third. Partly because of the crashes, and partly because of the effects bothering me. Thanks much for taking a listen!
