Hey Midi, I really think you did a great job on this track. I fell in love with this vocal a few years back when FastFunghi released his version which was pretty amazing. (Whatever happened to FastFunghi?) The intro is perfectly constructed and builds nicely with careful arrangement. I think you laid out the vocal track very good to support a lot of music since it is a dance track. Your keys/synth are really good throughout, and the lead break is very tight. I agree with BLEEP that the drums and or bass appear a bit weak in the mix and if your looking to play this in clubs you might need to address that aspect. Maybe play around with the kick some and consider adding some sub bass because it may not be so much as drums but more the bass that's the issue. I have a few DJ friends who work some of the local clubs here in Dallas who I have pushed a few of my earlier electronic tracks on. They are very concerned with dynamics and the first thing they critique is (what they refer to as) the thump factor. So drums and bass need to be up to the task. Overall this is extremely well produced and quite an enjoyable listen. Great job man !

thank you so much for this review Neo. I am heading in the right direction on thump factor, I think. My classical roots resist this extreme aspect of production, but I'll get over it. Talk to you soon buddy.

Dope track DeaDRest. Nice riffage and hard driving chunky rhythms throughout. Drum track was a nice match up indeed. So where and when does the EP debut? Good stuff man, lets hear more.

Thank you, Sampling is not my best forte, but this one seemed to made itself when I heard the drum loops. Although WhenOceansRise lack vocal finesse, his drum loops are really good. The guitars were recorded before I even heard the drum loops.

To answer your question:

We have 6 tracks almost ready for release and will be made available in December 2017. It will be a debut into the Melodic Metal Core Genre and will be the first release we are doing online. I will list and proof most of the tracks here on looperman.com first as a starting point for an induction into the international community. Hope the final tracks live up to expectations ;)

Good to see you back here again Evan, was missing you and wondering your whereabouts. I see you were busy and this new track is definitely worth the wait. I'm not sure of the intent with the intro sound bite but I am not a fan of many of these modern day televangelist's. But there are also some good ones that I do like very much. In regards to the music, I like the structure and the way you start this off with a bridge or chorus section before hitting more of a main line groove, which is pretty strong, I really dig it. Then we hit the bridge prefacing the next section with a real slick tempo shift. Man that mid section kicks off with some poly metered off beat stuff that is waaaay cool bro. The guitar and bass here is totally bitchin, I love it. I could have listened to a few more bars of that pretty easy. Another bridge and another progression with some nice lofty high register lead mixing delay effected slides and scales that guides it right to the creshendo ending. Wonderful man. Its a great example of progressive rock featuring some tremendous guitar and bass work. You could definitely make it different but making it better might be pretty tough. At least in my opinion !

Greetings, Mr. Morpheus.
I appreciate the kind words. I've been sitting on this one and a few others for a while. A lot of failed continuations and redos.
As for the soundbite, I only have issues with spiritual leaders who are clearly taking advantage if their followers. The guy in the soundbite was telling people to write hot checks to prove their faith. This particular guy was really bad. There are a lot of community and fellowship-minded churches that I believe have very positive effects. This guy is not one of them.

I hope all is well with you.

Hey Spiv, astounding piece both physically and mentally. To fully appreciate what you do, one has to be able to look beyond the conventional. Your songs are more like paintings which usually require more than a quick glimpse to fully understand and absorb. I could categorize you as an impressionist with some of your work but most, such as this, would most likely be considered surrealism. I think toastedavalanche is very profound with his assessment regarding texture and it does relate to this point. My only complaint to you, and I have the same issue with another Looperman - StaticNomad, is that I sometimes have to play your songs many times to hear everything that there is to hear. Don't get me wrong, playing you and StaticNomads songs over and over is not a bad thing, but it does take time. And I swear, even though you try to pass it off jokingly in your description (and don't laugh at this now) but there are a couple of your songs that appear to have some sort of mystical element in that every time I listen, I hear or pick out something different. I'm not sure if your into mysticism and this is some sort of enchantment that is attached or if it is just purely the fact that you incorporate so many sounds that are at extreme levels they are hard to make out if your hearing is not sharp enough or not paying attention. I have extremely sharp hearing, far above average. I cant even go into jewelry stores because I can hear super high frequencies from the electronic sensors on the glass showcases. Or...you quite possibly are dabbling with brainwave entrainment and subliminal stimulus? I have a few older electronic tracks that I actually tried a bit of this. Nothing subversive or diabolical in nature of course. Just things like once you listen to my track you will continue to follow me and listen to all my tracks, and once you join Looperman you can never quit. Harmless things like that. I dont think it worked. HA HA, just kidding !!!!!! (maybe)

Love it Spiv, keep em coming bro.
By the way, in your avatar, you do bear a striking resemblance to Salvador Dali.

This comment struck me as important, and not only because I received two copies of it, or because of it's length. I feel compelled to respond out of order.

Your discussion of art intrigues me, and it is not subject matter which I see brought up very often. The idea of my songs being akin to paintings is something which makes perfect sense... I have lived, both as artist and part time muse to a painter for over twenty three years. In my early albums, there were a few songs which I self-described as audio sculptures, but this was simply an idea influenced directly by technology... which may just be catching up with itself.

There is some amount of irony in your mention of StaticNomad in this context. It seems that He and I "rub each other the wrong way" in musical matters. No matter how polite we are trying to be, we both end up offending each other! I can't explain it either... are we meant to be competing/balancing forces?

I have a great respect for mystical elements in life, nature, subconscious - or whatever. I do, at various times, insert information at both the superliminal and subliminal levels, just like some of those who came before me. Many of my largest influences are those who's music became more intelligible after conditioned listening. Even when I walk the streets, I don't hide that my intention is to change people's minds.

I too have reasonably good hearing, possibly to the point where I hear things that aren't even there... can I get a LOL LOL. I have gone to significant measures to both diminish and encourage this sort of hearing. Possibly working in an optical lab for many years gave me some tolerance for sound.

The idea of "superliminal" is something which my wife and I discuss often when we are inebriated. I don't know for sure if we invented it or not... I doubt it, but it's a comforting thought. It is also a very common aspect of advertisement and propaganda.

I'm rambling here, because I have succumb again to sloth and gluttony... Your last insertion, regarding Salvador Dali, deserves an inclusion though. With no intended disrespect to the dead, I must admit to the situation of my avatar which may have contributed to the similarity. At the time that this painting was created, around early 2009, I was coming off of a few years of access to substance... I was still smoking my Indonesian cigarettes and rolling hard, and bottomed out at around 130 pounds. My wife and Love captured the moment on polaroid, and it became a painting which represents me, and still hangs in my main studio. This kind of relates to my mention of being artist/muse earlier. I don't know how this relates to Dali, but I am sure that he was sufficiently self-medicated!

Absolutely fantastic !!!!!!! If you have not yet seen the new movie you are going to shit at how close some of this is to the soundtrack. I was in line to see one of the first showings of Blade Runner 2049 here locally. It is incredible in both sight and sound. This is an amazing track bro, I'm totally blown away. thank you. means alot to me. always been a fan of vangelis. yes the new film(like the first) is one you have to get the best viewing for the visuals. if you ever get a chance to see the making of the first film, see it. they went to extremes to get that atmosphere, to the point of hardship. and they blasted the vangelis soundtrack while filming to inspire the feeling.

Hey X, this is pretty sweet bro! Nice psychedelic rock vibe. Reminds me of some of the 60's music from bands like Iron Butterfly, Amboy Dukes, Strawberry Alarm Clock etc. but of course much heavier. All you lack is a little organ accompaniment from a Farfisa Combo and Hohner Clavinet played thru a VOX Super Beetle ! Jk, I dig it man !

Man I feel like I just popped a handful of tranks after listening to this one bro! That candy crusher groove is like pure barbituates, without the harmful side effects. I dig the slow guitar there at 3:33, is that the time stretched part? Super tight production wise as are all of your tracks. Nice blend of various strings that together forms a pretty heavy psychedelic cacophony. Very groovy tune. Perfect head shop music!
StaticNomad
StaticNomad replied 16th Oct 2017 - 8 years ago
So sorry for my slow reply.

But you probably needed a while to get over the trippiness of this track. Have you come back down from your tranquiliser trip yet?

I have a vague idea what a candy crusher groove might be but I can't find any info on where the term is from. If I google it, I just get links to that Candy Crush game.

"3:33, is that the time stretched part?"

No, that's just detuned slide guitar. I think I took it down one octave in the computer to make it more like a bass.

Timestretched guitar is very ethereal and shimmering here and can be heard at 5:51 to the end. Strange textures that sound nothing like a guitar.

"Super tight production wise as are all of your tracks."

Thanks. I'm pretty good at it these days though it still takes a while to get everything nice and tight. Lots of mixing work and trimming of so many bits. Especially audio here - all those guitar snippets.

This is indeed a pretty heavy psychedelic cacophony. Hopefully with some clarity and not too much cacophony.

"Perfect head shop music!"

I haven't been inside one in years but, yes, they should all put this on their soundtrack. On repeat.

Thanks again.

Solid rockin' track tv and very much sounds like the Zep with Jimmy on his Les Paul. You can really play man ! Yeah I love your variations with the chords and finger picking combinations, sweep picking, hammer-ons, pull-offs etc. Very reminiscent of Pages playing style. Zeppelin was such a great band! Man listening to this I may have to get the Led out and go immerse myself. Love it tv, instant fave !

Thanks, Neo. Yes, Zep is one of my all-time faves. The first 4 or 5 songs I taught myself on guitar were Zep. Stairway was the very first and then Black Dog followed by Rock and Roll. They basically got me into guitar and music in general. I appreciate the kind words.

Cheers.

Hey Bleep, man this is slick bro. I love the staggered entrance intro. You sure know how to arrange. Considering the length, I never got bored due to all the change ups and progressions. Great use of percussion throughout, especially the drop sections that adds dynamics and breaks up repetition. I'm really impressed by the fact that your playing/programming everything yourself. The sax and the tremelo guitar are excellent additions that really peak the production value quotient. I really dig house music and will be looking forward to sampling more of your work.

Hello Neo,
thanks for your friendly comment, your words are really appreciate ;)
Cool to read you liked this track. Indeed, I am autonomous when I work on a piece (writing until production) but I have only small means. I think moreover that most of the artists at our level make the same thing: they build up by themselves their home own studio.
No problem for sampling my work, i'll be glad to listen the final result.

on Silence - Live from the rehearsal room by mrwolf14
Warning: The following comment contains Adult content (language) because Neomorpheus totally lost his composure when listening to this kick ass f'n track!

WTF! Thats a killer f'n track man! Holy f'n shit! You guys are an awesome band! Wow, i'm really impressed bro. I had no idea you were on this level. After checking out the website I can tell I definitely need to pick up some of your albums. Andrea has a fabulous voice, lots of power and range, perfect for this type of music. I love this style of music and with Andrea at the mic it's a different sound from the older stuff. Very Amy Lee - Evanescence sounding. All the instruments are spot on tight. Extremely well played Guitar, drums, and the bass player killed it man! How long have you guys been together? Didn't see that reference on the website but its obvious you guys have been playing together for a while to be this tight. As far as any suggestions, my only thought would be to tweek the high eq on the vocal track a bit more, Andreas voice sounds a bit muffled in spots. I imagine the album version will take care of all that anyhow.

Great stuff mrwolf, best of luck to you guys. By all means let us know when this is available to purchase. Thanks for the preview and the look into your rehearsal room. That is super cool shit right there. Huge props and much thanks.

Thanks a lot for the kind words! ^_^

And thank for the input on Andrea's voice: I also believe that we should improve the quality here. She uses a wireless system from Shure (not sure about the model). She has a better model for concerts, but I think that the one we use regularly has too much "mids" and it gives her a nasal/muffled voice.

Take care!

Hey bro, this a pretty dope track. I really like your structure and the hard panning is a nice retro touch. This reminds me of some of the new wave bands of the 80's. on Translucid by StaticNomad
Alright finally a cool track and a nice thought provoking title. Even though its a bit hard to see its quite the enjoyable listen. I like the intro. I'm big on intro's especially for instrumentals. I love the low notes of the cello, they're so fat and brooding. Combined with the delay effect here, really draws the listener in. You should do this more often, intros that is. The track begins and I'm immediately pulled into the depth of the bowed chords and underlying synth. Wow, that's cool ! Then comes the lead cello and I really notice the swell on the notes. This is done with delay? You must be using a volume pedal as well. Irrespective, that's beautiful stuff man. The bridge around 2:30 is a perfect interlude, nice heavenly pads. The last section features some impressive lead fills with some fancy articulation, long bowed notes, staccatos and octave exchanges. This is a bitchin' track bro. I know its quite a jump from what were normally used to hearing from you but it really showcases just what a beautiful instrument your wielding and how far you have come in your quest to master it. If I have any critique at all where this track is concerned I would say you definitely need to do some editing.

Remove the "not a great track" comment from your description !

StaticNomad replied 1st Oct 2017 - 8 years ago
Sorry for the very slow reply - it's most unlike me but I haven't been using the site for a couple of weeks.

Yes, interesting title - just a word I made up by combining 'translucent' and 'lucid'. I started with Translucent Planet but felt I could do better, even though I like the idea.

Yes, drumless intro is decent though I wish it could be bigger, fatter and more powerful.

"Then comes the lead cello and I really notice the swell on the notes. This is done with delay? You must be using a volume pedal as well."

You and a couple of others on here have been confusing me with asking about volume pedals and stuff. I've never used one and all your're hearing is bowing - no special technique but it does make the note rise in interesting ways.

That lead cello is pretty cool and jaunty and there are a few layers, with different bits meshing together at different points.

"The bridge around 2:30 is a perfect interlude, nice heavenly pads."

A darker, more mystical change. The track is no longer jaunty but more brooding and trippy now.

"The last section features some impressive lead fills with some fancy articulation, long bowed notes, staccatos and octave exchanges."

I think you mean 3:50-4:26. There are lots of bowed harmonics in there.

I like new, darker riff at 4:26.

"This is a bitchin' track bro."

Is it? No badassery and more on the groovy, chilled side of things.

"you definitely need to do some editing."

You mean the track should be shorter? Oh, I thought it was a fair old medium length one, with no section dragging too much.

"how far you have come in your quest to master it."

I have a hell of a long way to go and I'm not sure I'm currently improving much. Maybe I will never get much better. I may be at my peak right now.

"Remove the "not a great track" comment from your description !"

I think I'll keep it as I still feel the same. It's certainly not bad or even just average but it's not great as in really, really good.

Thanks for the feedback. It was quite lucid and only a little trans (cendental/gender).

on Lay Down Sally Tribute To Eric Clapton by MWRatridge
Awesome job on this man, an epic cover of a true classic. Guitars are super tight and sound almost note for note to the original. Love the multi track separation too. Vocal track is very good ! We used to do this song in a blues band I played in years ago. To be honest I grew to hate it, only because we played it so much. Its not one of my faves from Clapton but it is great song. It sounds so simple and clean but in reality its not all that easy to play correctly. Major props bro. Next: Crossroads or Sunshine of Your Love ?

Love it Steve ! I can easily imagine you two in smoky, dimly lit pub, off in a corner on stools. The background noise does clash a bit with the music but at the same time gives it that realistic element of playing live which makes it cool. Props on the guitar playing bro, sounds really good. Having just an acoustic and vocals, both have to be pretty good to pull it off. Nice version of this classic.

Thank you for kind words! I am glad you enjoyed the sound of the recording and the quality of the performance. Yes, it is a kind of a sacred space of the church that enhances the raw characteristics of the organ instrument making the actual sound more interesting so I tried to stay in tune with that reverberating space of the room of the church while playing the concert as much as I can. 'Fantasia in G Major' is some kind of a trenary form with highly elaborated middle part which is a sophisticated compositional model for 5-part contrapunctal writing on a given gregorian melody though the theme here is not a strict one. The Sonata I played is a secular form of baroque music, not a religious music. I also performed 2 choral preludes based on protestant chorale melodies during the concert - those were organ transcriptions from Bachs cantatas which are strictly religious works.

Great find man ! Its really fresh and raw sounding. This brings back so many memories of playing in bands. Kind of like when the guitar player starts it off with "hey check out this new riff I came up with", and then the other guys will jump in and you end up jamming on it for 10-15 mins. And then its usually forgotten. Is this you and a band or what? Cool track bro, I dig it.

Thanks, Neo. This is me on Guitar (rhythm and lead), Bass and Keyboard. Drums are Jamstick.
It was pretty much the process you described. I came up with the guitar riff and changes and then just went back in and improvised the lead and Organ. Bass was just played like the rhythm track, nothing fancy. I had just started out on bass after playing the guitar for years.
I appreciate the listen and the kind feedback.

The Monster reurns ! Hey bro, always good to see a new track of yours on the board. This one is more subdued, more chilled than some of your other stuff. It's certainly and unmistakably Monsterage in its sound and structure and a delightful listening experience. One things for sure, its impossible to sit and listen to one of your tracks without bobbing your head and tapping your feet, or just getting off the chair and dance (or in my case doing a full on body shake/seizure, cant dance for shit.)

Takes me back to the 80's and new wave bands like Human League, Ultravox, Kraftwerk, Spandau Ballet, Depeche Mode, Thompson Twins, A-Ha, Tears for Fears, Eurythmics, Flock of Seagulls etc.. That was a great time period and such an explosion of synthesizer based music. Really paved the way to the new era of elecronica.

Of course "Time" is the nucleus here and the clock sound merged with the beat is very ingenious and cool. Some really slick progressions and transitions throughout and I love the sound effects! The ending is also nicely done...very sci-fi. Love it man !

Thank you so much for your kind words Neo.
One of my longest projects to put together.
It was actually hard work but fun.

I am late on reviewing this one bro, sorry.
Really like the deep bass on this and man the cello is just so smooth in the first section. Really love the transition into the Dnb, that's sweet man. Lots of chilled out elements throughout, great fills and effects, superb production value here. How are you managing the sound swells starting around 4:10, expression pedal? You are so masterful with variation in your tracks. This is a truly wonderful piece to listen to. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Yo, NeoCellingBro.

No problem about being late reviewing this.

Yeah, the cello is fairly smooth in the intro section. I think it has some beauty and playfulness. The track was supposed to be begin with d'n'b but that half tempo chilled groovy intro worked too well so I kept it. You can't really guess the d'n'b is coming, I don't think.

"How are you managing the sound swells starting around 4:10, expression pedal?"

Spivkurl also mentioned a swell effect but gave no time reference. Maybe he was thinking of the same sort of section as you. I don't know what to say as I'm not really hearing any particular swell there. It's just bowed cello, no expression pedal. Perhaps the swell comes from how I'm drawing the bow plus the delay added to the cello part.

"You are so masterful with variation in your tracks."

Thanks. The variation comes from not knowing where the hell the track is going so then I have to experiment with very different elements. Then I get different sections going and have to work out how to stitch them all together. Sometimes I do it very smoothly, sometimes I don't.

Great to hear you thought it was so wonderful. I've got more into since finishing making it. I spent ages on it, tweaking so many elements. I guess I was going for a smooth, clean sound.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Take care,
