on School Bully by SLAPJOHNSON
Aahhh I just got up....(well hours ago actually but lets not interrupt my line of thought)...Where's my velvet blue dressing gown..where's a hat with a feather in it..give me some gold bling...that's better!..now..I can really get into the mood of this Funkster groove properly...It's quite simple really, there's a lot of funky things in life however without those super slick horn transitions into the groove most of us plebs will never achieve it...Brilliant free flowing funk straight from the source!..the flute is such a delight to hear, you can 'see' it literally taking off.......Super and superb...Touching on Alexander's and other kids bullying problems..I'd like to see every school employ a big dude pimped out in full funk regalia..trucking around the school yard with a ghetto blaster on his shoulder pumping out this tune...just looking for bullying and meeting out summary justice with a funky gleam in his eye....awesome tune!..cheers Dave :)

Hey....cool...trippy....bluesy chops layered in a Jazz style....Love the use of the rhythm time signature it makes the piece shimmer..you've definitely got your own style and sound..to me this is the most important thing for a musician to attain....Coolest! cheers planet :)

Hey mix..super blend of mixelled fusion grooves...this one's got a quasi ethnic feel to it.....very reminiscent of some Turkish cats I heard playing awhile back...the vocoded elements make for a futuristic ambience...excellent groove!..cheers planet

on When love is found by SLAPJOHNSON
Eh up lad..crackin' tune!...It's worth the wait to hear some real music...Excellent intro with the acoustic and the rest, well it reminds me of many images but the main thing is the dynamics for me,I don't think there's any other music I've heard that remotely embraces your ability to actually get a track off the ground and flying,it's the woodwinds of course and your amazing control,I've said it before, the music actually breathes quite beyond the processes of blowing into a bent piece of brass..lol seriously though the second heavier transition in the later stages is a masterful stroke..it carries the work beyond a set piece into the realms of a great composition.....quite inspiring and sublime!..cheers Dave :)

on Whats Up,Whats Up,Whats Up by GhostPetro9
Hey man...Solid score!..I've heard quite a few similar pieces in this genre but what I like about this one is the clean tight sound...excellent definition between the instrumental layers which gives the composition great depth...Slow tempo music in my opinion is the hardest to pull off successfully.....excellent work!..cheers planet :)

on Notes on a breeze by SLAPJOHNSON
Hey Slap..a great 'up' piece....light and emotive, full of heaps of space and reflection..there's so much music that's right in your face these days and it's a pleasure to listen to something that has charm and a delicate sensibility about it,being an improvisational melody it has that wonderful reality that only comes from the heart....beautiful touch and very cool to boot..cheers Dave :)

on Away Away... by LisMarie
I really love the spacing in this tune..I've got to agree with MrE though..way too much autotune..I just hate to see vocalists rely on this effect(as soon as you use it your categorised, simple as that)..used sparingly like plastic surgery to correct a fault it's cool...I don't want to come across as negative,I can tell your emotions and timing are first class..lets hear the real you... planet

Hey man..you've got some very nice crossovers happening here...the steady Hip rhythm keeps this one planted solidly on the ground while the trance elements spin way out and up like the rings around Saturn..very effective and very cool!..cheers planet

Nice one..always cool to hear some blues, love that string sound..I can get into the groove happening here..Don't worry about BB if he got hold of this it'd just become another one of his tunes indistinguishable from the rest..better it stays within your capable hands and originality..some nice guitar licks happening ..great work!..cheers planet :)

Interesting...I like that line."America's too Fat"..this is a great tune with it's roots in Psychedelic-Fusion-Blues..lol...cool slide sound merged with the almost ethnic drum beats, plus any mention of Rap-Hip Hop being a rip off totally won me over!...very enjoyable..cheers planet :)

I see what you mean...Cool job!..this one's got pretty much everything going for it..the end result is wicked..though I'm no expert on this genre and it's subsidiaries I can understand the dynamics of it..obviously designed to be heard on a huge house system...nice work!..cheers planet

on Importing Hungry Ghosts by n0mad23
Hey Sean...Bit of a tour de force happening here...some very cool sounds with great separation in the mix...you know, your having an influence on me..yesterday I bought a piezo pick-up online so I can attach it to all sorts of things and record them direct...all those kalimba type sounds are so cool!..I think this track is bridging the percussion barrier and showing how rhythms can become full blown orchestration in it's own right...I especially like the title, evocative yet totally illuminating..excellent work! cheers Dave :)

Dave - what I miss most about the old form is the inspiration that comes from direct contact with others. I'm beginning to realize that this form of contact/collaboration can work similarly, it's just a bit more difficult. I'd like to thank you personally for the multitude of loops I used from you in this piece. I actually had no idea until it was done and I gathered the list. I suspect it says a lot about yours and my own aesthetics and why we like each others approaches. I'm honored to occupy the same camp as The planetjazzbass! I think it's time for us to conspire on a combined effort track. Cheers, Sean.

Great voice Sage...I have to agree with you,I think acoustic songs are best when they retain their original form (not that there's anything wrong with expanded instrumentality)..it's just that in it's pure form your voice flows unencumbered over the guitar allowing it's full emotive impact and reflective nuances to shine.....a sublime talent here I think, wonderful work...cheers planet :)

Thanks - I am in love with your loops! The drum track (yours) really makes this song, so most of the credit goes to you for sure.

Hey Todd great to hear some new material from the Sixfingered one....Very smooth with a veritable aircraft carrier's load of tone...the inclusion of the string segment lifts this one onto a very professional level....and did I say smooth ,oh yeah... dripping at the seams with those buttery licks of yours...excellent material!..but I'd expect nothing less from Six..cheers Dave :)

Hey Dave! Thanks a lot for having a listen, I always appreciate your musical, as well as all around perspective. It is really good to get to recording again, and I am going CRAZY right now...I have so many great tracks coming together at the moment. It is weird how the inspiration comes and goes so freely, is it not? Thanks, Todd =)

Aahh cool!..when I hear frogs they always make me feel peaceful and at ease..excellent groove,it just rolls along and I love that Jew's harp sound....the percussion breakup happens at just the right moment and segues beautifully back into frogland...a sonic journey and communion with our amphibious neighbours...I'm going to gill out now,I'm a tad spent after that...super enjoyable! cheers Dave :)

Frogs are great, because you don't need to run the recordings through any sort of effects. They sound like their plugged into a stack already! The geng gong bit I originally did was done with me imagining frogs singing the blues, so the translation/interpretation into this track was meant to be. Glad you had pun with it.

on Blowin Up My Phone (single) by JesseFick
Hell man..this is a great song! you've successfully balanced a lot of elements here..there's no frequency washouts at all..I especially like how the Bass drum works as a melodic incursion..The vocals, and that's the main strengths of this piece work superbly, and mixing up the choruses keep it fresh from start to finish...I think the bottom line here is that you've created a classy tune that's very enjoyable to listen to...you can't say fairer than that..great work! cheers planet :)

Thanks planet! Yeah man I think the hip hop stuff is starting to bore me. I have played rock stuff for years. I grew up in the 90's (im 27) so I love that grunge feel. I kinda cant get away from it. But thats ok with me. I think Im going to start making more guitar inspired tracks. Thanks again for the kind words!

on In the Deep by BabiBing
Hey BabiBing..this sounds way cool..good space between the elements which allow the track to breath..there's a couple of breaks in the audio stream, this could be the player though...nice and dark with a solid groove...and the outro worked exceptionally well...I love a good outro!,it's the last thing you hear, hehe..great stuff!..cheers planet :)
BabiBing
BabiBing replied Unknown
Thanx! Very happy you like the result.
And yes.. I agree on the outro being as (or even more) important as the intro. usually spend a lot of time figuring out how to finish a track. The beginning is easy, but the end?
I listened to it with the looperman player and no breaks in the stream for me.. but! I just realised that this track is cut too fast. uploaded the wrong one omg such a noob lol..
