I loved this track N0mad. The unreality and imagery are astounding. The sounds don't mingle... they dance together in a very rhythmic but corporeal way. Very Nice!

The first of the songs that got me to admit that real music can be made with a DAW. Being a live performer, I really was bound up in the idea that if you're not banging on skins, plucking strings, or blowing across or through things, it's not really music. Now if I can only get my 14 year old to see this as well! Glad you enjoyed it - thanks for the review.

This one seems a little more upbeat in tempo than others I've heard from you. After hearing those tracks you sent the other day I am trying to picture your evolution from that to this and it all makes sense, I think, haha.

The title is so appropriate and as I'm listening to this I'm picturing in my mind little folk working furiously to this beat, it is a humorous thought to say the least. Like your other work this just has a great percussive and almost mystical feel to it. You have a unique quality that is mind boggling, I don't think I could make such a track, it's not in me but it lives vicariously in your spirit.

Excellent my friend, always a pleasure!

Yes, there's a thread of swampy psychedelia in the analog stuff that shifts into this approach as well. Figures you'd hear the "mystical" feel as well, and it was that that created the imagery of gnomes slipping through the veil into mundane reality. Once I had that, it was pretty obvious where the tune had to go next. Thanks for the listen and review, Wayne!

Just when i thought i had heard all of your tracks up on here... this is one that slipped the net, real pleasure to catch one of the earlier numbers that is so fresh to my ears right now.
Factory gnomes.... after the first listen i had to play this several mores times to try and pinpoint the samples you kindly shared.... they have to be in there surely? Dark drum and bass progressions is the order of things here, at least to my ears. Another class track and faved for future listening. cheers.

This track and "When Hipps" were the first two satisfying bits I did. Cleaned up in Ableton later really helped, but the core is there. I don't think I actually would have gone any further with this stuff if I hadn't liked this one so much. Glad you finally got to hear it!

Idk if you planned on this track being ethnic or not. But, it certainly comes off to me as like indian or south american, because of the percussion and the flute. I like all the chimes

    n0mad23
    Reply by n0mad23

Interesting...I wonder if it's possible with my aesthetic to do something that doesn't have "ethnic" flavors. I think it's due to my needing to do percussion as if it's tuned - no simple beats, and either percussive or hidden melodies driving them. The flute's actually an illusion here - it's from a pad loop played backwards using massive reverb and delay effects. The chimes were added in the final mix-down, and still one of my favorite sounds in this one. Thanks for the review and getting me thinking about things!

LLLOOOVVVVE that sound - tho I was expecting gnomes, and this doesn't sound like gnomes to me. definitely gnome factory, but the gnomes are gone, and little rifts that lead to the future are ripping open in the factory, and digital worker ghosts have taken over the factory and they are building you a studio, my friend. awesome work, fav'ing. like this a lot.

    n0mad23

CalifKen - so glad you dig it! I love the image of "digital worker ghosts" from the future building me a sonic studio. I hadn't considered that it was a factory building garden gnomes at all - isn't that weird? The gnome in the title is from my own metaphorical totem reference scheme - a way of keeping track of "those damn things" that pop up across cultures and vary with every cultural lens. My great-grandmother used to tell me stories about the brownies at her grandmother's home and how they fed it burned porridge. My best friend from Niger told me a similar story and I've got my own ideas about the real non-variable in the quantum model - so there you go. My Gnomes are probably closer to your future digital worker ghosts than the ceramic kind. "Gnomes in the Totem schemata of n0mad23". Thanks for faving it!

    Play 2 now...
Maybe this is one of those odd Twilight Zone moments, but I'm pickin up similarities in the grooves with the other song of yours I just reviewed. Coz the vision of the faux mineral water ad carries over to this one. Perhaps it's the beat and closeness of the tonal patterns of the synth?
Like the former had more of a emphasis on leads where this one focuses more on the pads and percs?
Anyways, I think what makes this track stand out are the above mentioned pads and the long winding bass you used on this. Gives it an almost globular feel (think lava lamps). And for visual purposes, that's great in lending itself to making spectacular visuals for a performance. It'd be kinda interesting to see how this would play on Windows Media Player with the visualizer set to random. Or one could just have a blast creating stuff for it on-the-fly. Cool stuff mate. Later on!

This one Is what it Is. I reversed a sampled cello loop of Bach that's 10 sec. long and knew what to do as it pulled up incredibly visual memories. Six samples in all played and recorded live on an Max MSP standalone, after 5 or 6 'dry-runs' over 3 days. If you've read any Terrance McKenna, you'll get my reference to the Language Elves. It would lend itself to spectacular visual performances as it's already a sonic representation of just that. Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers.

    oh

    lol

    figures..

The depth with panning.. delay that you utilize...
there is something goin' on in your head.. that I don't think a lotta people could even grasp..

    Again...
I need it to be said to me.

Like.. .. how could I explain

it's like seeing symbols but .. not correctly understanding the symbolism.

    I think I do.. "But.. Do I?"

It has elements.. (to me) of staring fear in the eyes.
The listless taste of ... indignation
the joy of victory, but... a sense of ... doom

all through the kaleidoscope of music
    it's very well done..
something in me still secretly wishes
that it transferred from the musical psychedelia, into HARD rhythms and grinding grooves..
    lol

would buy your CD if you supplied some cool liner notes
    :)

Yes, you would be the one that gets it! The language choices - uncanny! My instrumental nonverbal ballad about the Language Elves. I'll write you about the provocative stuff, but your last comment/critique - this is the hard limitation of iamthemightyjungulator. Very, very limited platform that can only be played as an instrument. One shot - get it right with a max of 6 loops. No vst effects, no sends, nothing. It's too bad, too as it's got serious potential. I'm thinking that I owe M. Oden a huge dept of thanks as I wouldn't have pursued this type of music at all hadn't that program been so much fun to play with.

You have such a unique style. I'm not sure about what genre to call it. That's where I'm the weakest. Most of my stuff ends up under "weird."

Though I'm new to this realm, I've been making music for nearly 15 years now and 'genre' has always been a problem for me. Under the fuzzy definitions I see here, I'm beginning to thing my stuff (all of it) belongs in Ambient. It's weird but pretty groovy, hip wiggling music. Maybe it's Top 40 Pop!

planetjazzbass of crazy, crazy Melbourne - the honor's all mine! I must admit to 'lurking' your music already and amassing some of your loops for potential use. This was my first 'real' piece using Jungulator tech and I'm now bloody dissatisfied with it! The potential is all there, but I can HEAR where there's room for much improvement. Cheers on the listen and review!

Very trippy sounding track. i can tell that you put alot of time and effort into this. I wouldn't necessarily call this track is more psy/goa sounding trance then the regular trance i listen to. The ethinic kits used in here enhance the track to its highest potential. i just wish there was some bass or synth somewhere in this. I would suggest putting this song in the ethnic category. Wonderful rendition either way :)

I really like this one, too. It's a strange little tune with its roots in a loot of generic traditions - old skool Industrial, Acid House, etc. Next it's time to sit down and figure out whose loops need credit.

Thanks! The genre problem is with me again. I actually spent part of my youth in West Africa and tend to agree with my African friends - music is music. Trance? Ambient? Industrial Dance Noize? A band I was in a few years ago billed ourselves as "Pacific Northwest Folk Punk Music" and nearly came to blows when an International Music Festival organizer labeled our 'genre' as West African Dub Fusion. Go figure!

First off, love the title... and deffo have it aptly named. Funny thing is, you've translated your organic music knowledge very well into electronica because this still manages to sound organic. Very cool track... not sure if I'd call it trance myself, perhaps maybe ambient? Trance tends to be 4/4 time with heavy synths... this is much more atmospheric. Lovely :)

Description : I went to the beach and set up my stereo recording mic under a gazebo near it (I apologize for some of the air gusts being recorded haha; we had a strong SE wind that day :P Tried my best to place it out of the wind); wanted to record myself playing live and do some cheesy roleplay in the process - wanted to make it feel like the listener was sitting there beside me. ** This is what the beach looks like: http://static.travel.usnews.com/images/destinations/80/south_padre_island_main.jpg **

Lo and behold, I'm about halfway through the song when my buddy Mark, a friend from college, heard me singing and decided to join me (he seems to never part with his guitar lol).

The expression on his face was that of confusion as to why I had my mic with me and a audio-capturing device, which I plugged into an outdoor electrical plug that the gazebo owners installed lol (I've done recordings like this before but didn't like the results; we messed up a little at the end but I was like meh it's not bad anyways.) but I'm glad he didn't say it out loud or it would have ruined the recording lol. Luckily, I was playing a song he and I wrote together some time ago, so he was able to just jump right in. He's a great guitar player.

Even though it was a little awkward at the end since we hadn't seen each other for like 4 months (you might be able to tell by the way I responded to his "thats so cool" comment haha), I think it turned out just fine. It was a lovely evening and the clouds were all poofy and happy. Lots of people were there too, though I made sure to sit far away from all of them. Ahh, it was a beautiful day. I'm glad I live by the ocean :P * Just kidding, I recorded this in my studio; though I do live close to the water, this was not recorded there :P I did everything, down to the wind blowing into the mic, except for the sound of water and the kids in the background. I got those sounds here: freesfx.co.uk/login/

The guitars and vocals were one-takes to give a more realistic feel. No pitch-correction or autotune. Just wanted to try making another soundscape (or whatever you want to call this :P) about what it's like to live by the ocean.

Description : Glen Cloy is one of the glens of Antrim (Tumbleweed's county) in Northern Ireland. The little people, actualy fairies, populate all of them and they all have very old ghost stories that have been told for centuries (and still are)...This one is about Shaman of old and his journeys through the spiritual world...That sums up what Ed told me about the concept for our 7th (how convenient^^) collab work. The main core of the track is Ed's work and the original length was 5:18, but I wouldn't have been Orlando if I didn't tempt to compose my longest intro to date (3:10) to inject my own fantasies about little creatures of Glen Cloy (soft spot for spiritual world..hehe..). Other than that I also added some synths arrangements and vocal samples for the rest of the track and probably ruined it a bit..haha..but that's how collabs are sometimes..:)^^.....All my thanks to Ed...and Irish ghosts ofcourse...
