Description : Ok, this is my song for the "Loop Challange" started by FreeRadikal https://www.looperman.com/forum/thread/182711?page=1 Maybe you cant hear the 3 loops i had to use (in any way) BUT i realy only used this 3 loops and a drumline, my voice and just a 4th loop (the chello or string one). All in all it was a real fun to work with - not chosen- loops and the result is something i realy didnd done the last 20 years. A kind of a punksong .... it´s a genremix i believe something punky, powerfull and strange with a touch of the 80´s and with electrostuff and guitars ... --- jetzt geht es los - means something like - Here we go -and- Now it beginns - have fun

Description : Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
This is my new track Midnight In Ibiza completely unmastered(not even any volume adjustments, so there is some red-lining). I was thinking of uploading a song in its roughest form and then uploading another when it gets mastered to give some insight to new producers how important sound mastering actually is in the whole creative process. I used a lot of different sounds such as large string sections or simple saw waves to really fill out all the space in the track. Description : This track is the first two sections of what will (hopefully) be a three-part piece — essentially a suite. I am posting parts 1 and 2 because I think they are ready for feedback from Looperman members. Part 3 isn’t done yet because it requires Human League style vocals from a singer with a distinct British accent. I have the melody and lyrics worked out. I sent a private message a while ago to a Looperman member who I think has the right voice for the job. But, haven’t had a response. Until I find a vocalist for it, I can’t finish the piece. In any case, the total file size of the complete piece would be greater than the Looperman limit, so it will have to be split into parts anyway.

Parts 1 and 2, in fact the whole thing, were inspired by acapellas posted here on Looperman by Jacques Demers:

If you haven’t checked out Jacques’ tracks yet, you really should. He doesn’t set them up as “featured” so it might be easy to miss them.

The harmony in Jacques’ acapellas sounded very “Beatle-ish” to me, and that made me want to try my hand at doing a George Martin style treatment. I remembered that ScottsCovers here on Looperman had mentioned an instrument called a Mellotron, which was used by the Beatles, the Moody Blues, Genesis, along with other groups of that era, so I decided to use a VST mellotron as the primary instrument for Parts 1 and 2.

The acapella in Part 2 was in a different key than the one used for Part 1, so I needed to find a chord progression in Part 1 that would modulate the key. Jacques gave me some advice on that, which you can see in the comments on his first acapella.

Part 1 has harp, mellotron flutes, clarinet, french horns, and my attempt at a Penny Lane type trumpet solo (but much simpler). Part 2 has a string ensemble, solo oboe and trumpet in unison, and some Daniel Langois type processed guitars. Both parts were recorded at 60 bpm, largely because that’s where the acapellas seemed to sync best. However, I played the instrument tracks freestyle (rubato), so the tempo actually varies somewhat. Definitely not quantized!

There is a storyline behind this track. Part 1 is the blooming stage of a relationship. Part 2 is about the relationship in decline. Part 3, with vocals, will be about ending it.

I’ve included the transition to Part 3 (which will be a more traditional synth pop section) and just a bit of the first verse backing instrumental so you can get an idea of how things are headed in the final part.

Description : 'Grinnin' In Your Face' is my second track featuring the voice of Son House (1902-1988). Just as 'John The Revelator' this re-mix was inspired by watching the rockumentary 'It Might Get Loud' with Jimmy Page, The Edge and Jack White. The pivotal moment comes when Jack White plays his favorite a capella track by Son House (www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTlSka5iqPY). This made a big impression on me. I wondered how House's incredible voice would sound when transposed to a housebeat. Thus unusual combo of two genres (blues/gospel and house) worked out fine, I think, in 'John The Revelator'. For the new track I sought a hard edge approach. Instead of the lyrical sax by STAX, I used electric guitars for solo and rythmic elements, going for the very rough sound Jack White demonstrates in the rockumentary by playing, slightly out of key, one-string slide-guitar. 'Grinnin' In Your Face' is part of a Son House Project I'm working on, paying hommage to the old blues in a new musical environment.

Description : I put this one together while looking out the window at the year's first snow. A good moody driving song to get lost in. Three chord slowhand blues progression. Thanks to Slap Johnson for the great sax loops used in this song. I used my GR-20 guitar synth for a few of instruments including the Rhodes Organ, always a fun toy compared to doing on my keyboard sometimes. Most of the recording was done with my new Les Paul Studio guitar, err... (until i I broke a string on the outro, so I decided to throw in a Fender Strat too to finish it up.
