For some reason the opening piano counterpoint reminded me so much of Ultravox (Midge Ure era). The jazz guitar work smoothens (New word) out the song. Nice work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpkasPwAtrQ&html5=1

Good work my friend, this borders on Digital Hardcore. Bass line is driving, the vocals are placed perfectly and are disturbing in the right way ;)
Steve
Hey Cruce, good to hear from you! Digital hardcore, I like that! This one is weird because I used an effect as an instrument, which just kind of fell into place. Thanks for the compliment on the vocals! I appreciate you listening!
This I think would go better under the Breakbeat category. That being said, it's a very interesting first loop attempt and a good job. Very creative work. Now we just need to get it mastered properly and it would sound awesome
Yes! And thank you. I wasn't sure about the genre, really. And I'm certainly WIDE OPEN to ideas of HOW to get started mastering it properly, because as you can see, I'm in uncharted territory here. Thanks again.
Of course a big tune to take on, but the project rate you have projected for us is only at 16000, and not 44100. So it sounds pretty blah in my speakers. for shame because I hear some good arranging of midi instruments.
This is some good s**t. I really like this tune, and I am not ordinarily prone to liking hip hop or rap unless it is really really good. and I like this one!
I used to have to write Gregorian chants and sing them at 8:00am for music theory in college whilst trying to avoid the devils chords..lol,
you have made a beautiful piece of music.
Steve
1. superb mix and production
2. Not Trance. sort of an electro hybrid.
3. interesting use of atonality in the first 2:25, then it gets into tonal qualities of Dm, then back to the atonality.
4. in the second part of tonality, I would love to hear a ripping synth or guitar solo.
5. nice work
You have a nice sound working with this. (And this is not a negative but a truly honest question) But Bobby I am interested in what your opinion is on what makes this sound so original vs anything that's been recorded before, especially in the hip hop beat department? What are your musical influences. Musically it's very simple chord progression. (again not a negative as California from Dr Dre was a simple chord progression as well(RIP roger Troutman)). Sorry if it seems I am picking on you , but I read your (boastful) description and was curious why you think that this stands above or separate from the crowd of beats?
I Totally understand, and I know where your Coming from when you make that Statement, its an Extremely professional Question and statement and no offense taken :) Personally, and Professionally, I'm sorry if It came off as boastful, but all I really wanted to state is thatt I'm really trying to develop the next sound, where to it becomes a trend, because most mainstream songs have always kept an invisible (in my opinion) barrier to kept it an original genre. Like if a song is called rock it will traditionally have guitars etc. And I would like for songs to be more multigenre and uniquely distinct from traditionally labeled genres :) but great feedback, I appreciate the question too!
thanks a lot Steve! and you suggested exactly what my first attempt at some percussion/beat was. :)
and sure, i'll gladly let you know when there's something new, cheers!
O.K. I listened to both. I like the original a little better. I think what I would like to hear in the remix is a few changes if possible. The vocal accapella track has a very chorused almost phased effect on it and I think having the vocals clean with a natural reverb or delay would be better. at:59 of the old remix the piano and the vocal melody clash musically (the verse). I really like the chord structure for the chorus as it reminds me of Heaven 17's "Geisha Boys And Temple Girls " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Edgjl5zPW6g&html5=1
This song is the style of music you do,
What you can learn from it is they were successful by making a strong chorus and a vocal that is clean and clear.
Maybe on the verse structure at:59 instead of the jangly verbed piano use something else musically, like a deep bass sound. That's my take so far on this one.
Steve
Hi Steve!
That's really helpful advice - I'll try that bass sound and also one thing I noticed now is that I like the melody in the first verse a lot more than the one coming later which I sort of chose to be the main chorus this time...why did I choose that one anyway???
Strange thinking from me.
And that Geisha Boys song made me smile - never heard it before. Good advice about making a strong chorus, I'll try to do that also.
About the vocal, I tryed my hand on EQ'in it and a hole lot of other elements in the song so my guess is that I EQ'ed away the good sounds...lol!

Thanks heeps for helping me out with this, Steve!
And have a nice day/evening. /SJ
