Now this is different...and in a very good way...I can hear the tought that you put into the composition SJ...that widening on the kick is a bit unusual but really effective in this track...really nice job of the way you have the vocals and music interacting and the way the sounds are placed around the vocal...I`m listening with reasonable good earphones and the mix sounds fine to me ...SJ never stop doing the kind of music that appeals to YOU...and dont give a dm about what genre it seems to fit...The music innovators who have influence the world of music didn`t accomplish anything by trying to sound like everybody else...I love your musical imagination....keep on doing it...and a big well done to you on this one...Ed

Oh, this was as a serious and very warm hearted pep talk to the unsecure side of me!
I hear you Ed and thank you for that - although my shallow side still is hoping to some day accomplish something more commercial and not just odd sounding songs...but it seems that I really can't hear the difference anyway! =D
Maybe I'm doomed to create oddness.

Thank you so much for listening and putting your thoughts in writing, it really means a LOT!
Take care and have a great evening/day/night/morning. =)

HI! Man, you are developing like crazy! :) I really, really like the first 'chorus' and comes back at 1:40 I believe. That's just awesome. The changeups I'm not so sure about. After the chorus i think you still need some glue. I mean extra chords to make it less of shock if u know what I mean. No problem to go to another key. But maybe a 'pivot' chord will do the trick. I'm not pro in arranging, but I use some basic schemes to help me write. I decide which rootkey a track is gonna be and write around that.

http://www.musictheory.net/lessons/57

this scheme was really helpful to me, wish someone gave it to me earlier. :) Then when you decide another key is going to be the root note in a break for instance, (I) I think chord II and IV of your first choice key are used mostly to pivot it.

If you have an Smartphone I use an app called 'suggester'. Search chord progression in the app store. In this you can choose certain keys and build reaaally easy some chord progressions. Hope I've helped a bit! Maybe you can find some extra chords here!

All this is just a help, you're absolutely not bounded to such theory. Cheers!

You have to be an angel (or something similar to one...)
Thank you SO MUCH for all those advice and suggestions! I'm taking a small pause from this track now but will come back and all what you wrote will be very educational and useful when I continue.

Take care! =)

Hi it's me again. Your English is fine. Yes it's very hard to master with a Daw. what I recommend is mix down to wave or aiff file an good but kind of neutral mix. than purchase a mastering program to pump up the mix.
If you go to :
http://vst-club.com/vst-plug-ins-c-119.html
you can get IZotope Ozone Advanced 5.0 or other mastering tools . It's only $15 so it's an amazing deal
Kate Bush http://www.katebush.com/home
Keep it up it's a great song in need of a little dressing up. Keep me posted

Hi you again!!
Well, that is actually an affordable price so I will take a look at that alternative. Thank you SO MUCH for taking your time with this track!
And I already love Kate Bush! ;)

Take care.

I was just wondering about modest tweeks. One thought is less reverb on the vocal and maybe a little too much limiting on the overall master???????????. What did you use to master it?
SeriouslyJoking
SeriouslyJoking replied 11th Sep 2013 - 11 years ago
OK - yeah, I tend to overly use the reverb on the vocals. And I used A LOT of some kind of limiting (with EQ somehow..) on the both drumloops.
It's mastered only in FL 10 so there is a lot to do I guess, to get it right.
I'm really in the beginning here in every way, trying to learn how to use that DAW. And I should get some other mastering...stuff to make the mastering in. Gaaah - my English - sorry it's hard to explain! =)

Tremendous work you made incorporating these vocals so well into a very uncommon and interesting instrumental !
I like it a lot, it's so unusual !
Bravooo !

Thank you for listening!
I'm so glad you actually liked it.
The vocal was really a challenge and still it doesn't really fit perfectly everywhere. I should probably have listened to the original track before I began to create my own version of it...

Hello ....

"my own ears feel very unreliable" ?

Honestly I do not think, because, what you have produced here is very original: Instrumentation, Rhythmic, integration of voice ..... and effects.
In summary, it's unexpected, pleasant to listen to, a good concept.

Your ears are still good ....

Oh, thank you Dan!!
But I'm really beginning to wonder about my musical perception...maybe it's too odd.

Well, it's a comfort to know that you got out something worth listening to from this anyway.
Take care!

Reminds me of the chord changes of the ATB tune Your not alone. very eclectic work from you! And I see your developing your FL piano style. 2:58 is not out of tune per say but just in the wrong key. Has potential though!

Hello Steve!
I loved that ATB tune and the Olive version even more! Just listened to it after so many years when I saw your comment. Thanks for bringing all these epic old tunes back to my ears!

Oh, so it's the wrong key at 2:58! I'll look in to that, that part really gave me some headaches...maybe I'll removed it alltogether.
Thank you Steve for listening and giving advice!!
Have a nice day over there.

She sounds a lot like Kate Bush now that you mention it. I was looking for a link to her webpage so you could listen to her some more and discovered that she really is going places already:http://www.devynrose.com/

WOW I just LOVED THIS SONG. Some tweeking in the mastering???
SeriouslyJoking
SeriouslyJoking replied 10th Sep 2013 - 11 years ago
REALLY?!
You just made my day - Thank you!!
I wasn't sure of anything anymore, is it really bad or what's wrong with it, people are listening and noone is commenting. And I still loved the song myself - a very strange situation. Lol

Do you mean that it needs tweeking or if there is tweeking already? Well - my answer is that I tried to master it and used some effects which sort of worked...not so good. So will have to continue mastering and even remixing a bit later on.

Description : A psychedelic techno cello epic. It's not really techno as it's only 110 BPM but something like that (eg breakbeat), with lots of banging beats and arpeggiated acid synths, plus a whole load of my layered cello playing techniques. There aren't that many synths used but they do a lot of work and are carefully automated. No guitar. Drums are mostly a lot of drum loops, supported by a few programmed acoustic drumkits. Very busy and complicated with loads of different sections (funky, chilled, fast, heavy) that make up a constantly progressing trip. I don't know if there's any other cello music like this so let me know if you think there is. Interesting feedback appreciated - criticism, praise, ideas etc. Enjoy...
