hi bro. thanks for the feedback. yes i am proud of the chorus. plenty people spittin out old school style rap but the chorus is origonal. thanks for the compliment bro.
Nice deep hard sound! drums could be equed' a little better in the mid range. bass is outstanding. Have you tried reductive eq at the 200hz level to get the beat to snap better? that could help, but a monster of a sound(beat) you have going on
well i master none of my joints i have someone do that who has the correct ear for that i try my best to take some of the load off but when i put it up it was after i finished it. but its done correctly now im just a producer not a engineer lol i let someone else do that tedious work. but thank you for the comment and for taking the time to listen.
This is very interesting. I came here because of spiv's lauding of you on face-book. This is definitely not house but the closest house artist I can think of who would be this eclectic would be Green Velvet. That being said. If you have the raw vocal stems and an instrumental version of this. I would love to remix it. I feel I would like to build from the earlier minimalism to a bigger sound and see what happens! if your interested let me know!
Steve
Am glad you liked this, however the stems are ancient history ,maybe i will re record something because i would like to have a stab at an acoustic version of the track ...glad you liked and merry xmas
Ahh this is really nice and smooth. great usage of spacial mixing, love the rhodes like piano, and that style of guitar is one of my favorites (Tumbleweed, Chris Rea, Neal Hubbard etc). ahh an oboe as well. fav'd and d'loaded (Thanks) this is a special song!
Steve
I would have to agree with my esteemed colleague (static) the verb is a bit much at the beginning but I know why you are using it as it can hide some imperfections ;-) . Let your natural voice come thru with a smaller verb but those dub (slap echo) effects are nice. Now when you are singing "Whoaaa" the verb effects are nice on that as it sounds like background singer. check out some drum loops on this site as static is correct as the drums are very monotonous. but this tune has some great potential.. keep working at it learning your pro-tools. And welcome to the loop!
Steve
thanks alot for the input steve. appreciated. i will check out some of the loops on here and hopefuly improve all the time i look forward to learning from guys like youselves and hopefuly producing some great stuff. as i said to static please keep an eye on my progress and i will defo follow you guys. cheers.
very nice track, great use of this pella, I really enjoyed listening to this. Good beats...sort of a cross between big-beat and trip-hop almost Red-Jerry like in some ways. Good stuff
Steve
Thanks. I agree as well but it is just a sample beat and I currently only get to put in 4-6 hours to create these beats and it does effect the finished product.
Beautiful mix, great minimalist approach, fav'd from moi. This is Classic House as it should be! Nice synth solo. good break-down and powers right back in with the groove Great job Steve really impressed with this one.
I liked this a lot Patrick! It's not necessarily dub-step per say but something deeper in a more nouveaux way. Some ideas to call it....Spastic-step, Industro, Vitrol-step, bitter-better, AUIYF (All up in your face)or the ever popular Trip-step-fall. You can tell I am using my Evil-marketing degree to good use here. I like the way you use vocals and specifically hard consonants as a percussive sound on your vocals. good work!
Steve
Thanks for listening my friend! I like your marketing ideas, but at the same time I shudder to think what more related genre labels will do to the music industry... ha ha! Did you mean vitriol-step? That would make sense. This was all made pretty quickly, so that percussive vocal element was just a glitch that worked. It's good to hear from you on this one!
This just put a smile on my face. I just went back and reviewed some of my earlier comments I have left on your tracks. What an amazing job you have done in the last 9 months to grow musically. Ironically you consider me an eclectic artist, but this song is very eclectic and very good. You have managed to capture an interesting sound with your trademark piano staccato style. And Some wild dissonant chords as well which make this so so interesting. It has been a pleasure to listen to your musical maturity over the last 9 months. "keep it going"!
Steve
Hi Steve!
Well, I've told you this before but this journey has been what it is very much thanks to you and a bunch of other guys and girls here on the loop.
Without all the feedback and advice - no progression.
In December last year I hardly even knew there existed such things as DAW's and that almost everybody could learn to create some kind of music on their computer...now I know. =)
I just wish somebody could have told how addictive this music producing was, though!! It's taking over my life...
=D
Take care - I'm off to have a listen to your latest creation now. /SJ
Haunting beginning, reminds me of For your pleasure from Roxy Music. with the delays. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVCGTsiedEY&html5=1
(Live mix from the early 2000's) Song from 1972
now you know If I am comparing you to Roxy you are doing something creative and cool for my taste. Eb major also a nice fluffy happy tune, less psychedelic and just plain fun. Percussion is awesome as well, good fills, snares and toms. 4:15 mark is really fun. Very good arranging of the instruments on this one. This is a tune I would want to hear live, in fact the way you mixed it makes me feel that this could be live! (we know the truth) You have many musical ideas going on with this one. 6:00 mark, guitars are cool. A little darker transition starting at 7:00, There is a small subtle hint of you wanting to bring it to DM but you just flirt with it while keeping it in Eb, but you change the mode. (the suddenly middle eastern feel) 9:24 has a nice groove to it. Self indulgent indeed but a lot of fun. And right at the end you transition to Eb minor going back and forth on that chord and Bb...sneaky.
good job
Steve
Sorry for my late reply. I struggle to see the link between this track and For Your Pleasure, which I didn't much like (especially Ferry's vocals), though I did listen to the whole thing trying to spot the link. Must be the odd delayed keyboard part that comes in after a couple of minutes.
Yes, I do like the drums in this track. It's my usual multiple acoustic kit affair but I think they sound similar or are well matched so sort of sound like one big kit. Gives the track a real consistency that is maintained throughout the 18 mins though you'll hear the occasional cowbell in the second half.
Yes, 4:15 I find fun and also kind of fluffy and happy. Does all sound a bit like a live band. Shame I don't have one! 6:00 guitars have some good little squeals and 16th note rapid end of bar fills that I like to do (I can generally only play that fast, and in time, in short bursts).
Thought you'd like the dulcimer, banjo and Eastern stuff in this eg from around 6:50 on. That same bass guitar thundering away providing a good anchor. I use it a hell of a lot in this track but hope it doesn't get too boring. I find these end, darker sections very musical, even though I don't really know what I'm doing in terms of changing key. I just know the mode I've made up and hit those new, correct notes and then branch out a bit.
Since uploading this I've improved it a bit in various ways. I strongly considered splitting it in two but don't think that will now happen (would have called the other half Things That Always Were).
This track will be on my nearly finished album called For The Long-Form Lovers. 4 tracks - around 65 mins running time!
Look out for it in all good record stores soon (not really).
Thanks again for checking out my self indulgent noodlings.
Very nice work remixing some fellow Canadians. I was thinking that you could sing the vocals through a vocoder (not an autotune) and that would be appropriate for this mix.
As All of my esteemed colleagues have said already I agree with. Man I love me some priest and this has echoes of that, as well as Warren DiMartini of Ratt, and some of the NWOHM sounds from my youth. Work with this and add some guitar parts to it this has some nice potential. Nice work!
Steve
The Strings sound phased, reminds me a bit of ultravox. With just a sprinkling of Tangerine Dream thrown in (Legend, movie soundrack) I like when the drums come in, really focuses the melody in this, Nicely done.
Steve
Thanks for the comment Steve!! I'll have to give that soundtrack a listen again. I am glad I'm not the only one on here that has listened to tangerine dream. Some of the best early 80's soundtracks ever lol. I'll have to look up ultavox. I've heard of them but not familiar with their music. I am from the early 80's new age movement and one of my favs was night noise. I do love a phased string sound. Thanks again
