on Asteroids plus bonus track Bad boy bass by FreeRadical
I love how this builds, the percussion stabs and crashes are perfectly executed. The chord progression is very clever as well. Nice fade into bad boy and suddenly I'm back in 1991 on the dance floor at the Oak Beach Inn...how did that
happen??? Ahh a modulated DX7 sound...nice.
great nostalgic work as always my friend

on Valvedriven by StaticNomad
The opening salvo is magnificent, then a break, Then 150 builds nicely in a progressively spooky way with great guitars and then eerie vox that are dissonant. Ah a metal Choir shuffle, then a skiffle, 5:00 on nice solo work but I am equally impressed with the pounding drums. 6:00 has some cool bass synths waving and wobbling with some cool stereo guitar scratches in the background. Talk about abrupt endings.
Val D should be pleased with this as I see in his comments he is.
Peace

Yo.

Yes, The Valve seems happy with this one.

I consider the first heavy section, till 1:17, a short masterpiece and would be happy to have it as a standalone track. Take note of there being no guitar before 0:40. That's all just synth bass and bass guitar through distortion. So, the squeals you hear eg 0:08 are synth bass.

To hear the same squeal undistorted, go to 1:25. 1:17-1:36 is the same 40 secs of bass and guitar though I also add in some slap bass notes (second is heavily delayed) and then the synth basses arrive. I'm very pleased at using the same weird, cutup synth bass and bass g bassline both heavy and clean.

Yes, I expected you to like the choir voices and appreciate some of their dissonance. Lots of beauty there too.

"then a skiffle"

No idea what that is. Surely not like the musical genre known as skiffle.

"I am equally impressed with the pounding drums"

Indeed. Fully valve driven with multiple huge pistons pumping at a furious rate. Large machinery with even larger balls. Testicle factory.

5:50 is my bass synth riff. Cam up with it on guitar but laid it down first on keys. Proper dark, menacing metal riff.

"cool stereo guitar scratches in the background"

No, no guitar in the background. From 6:16 for a while you can hear a heavily effected version of any earlier choir vocal brought back in. I struggled to get the choir ladies to return in the heavy sections so there are only small touches. The 6:16 fading in one builds things nicely before we get the big riff kick in on 6:28.

Note the build of the drums in that breakdown section - really pleased with that movement.

I've now uploaded a slightly lengthened and improved version so check that out.

Yes, fairly abrupt ending (improved slightly now). Had loads of ideas for endings but they didn't really work and I didn't want to make this too much longer so abrupt it is, with menacing decay from the cymbals as they fade out.

When will you make a track dedicated to me? Maybe call it The Electric Crumad. StaticCru? You can put in one reverse cymbal but no more.

Thanks bud! Had fun trying the synth out on this one! Been sitting there ever since pretty much, as I've been "tuning" my modular and circuit bending lately. It will get used again though. Glad you could stand the annoying sounds! Appreciate the comment and listen!

on Slow Jam 2 by AngelDelarosaJr
Good tense intro. nice analogue drum kit (superb compression on it) with some good production values overall on this. I could hear rapping or a beautiful female voice over this one which would work equally well. Normally I don't click on forum links but I'm glad I did on this one. My Musical meddling mind wants to hear a wicked solo over this as well, so musically it has some good potential. Maybe I would add a chorus that is slightly different than the verse line with some strong pads or a piano.
great job

on Breaking Blue L00P CHALLENGE by Spivkurl
Such a cool weird tune . The guitar is ripped right out of the New Romantics Playbook (Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet). The Dub is eclectic and the beat is hypnotic.

I feel it needs some spoken word lyrics on this one, like describing an acid trip or a very weird day sort of like Robbie Roberston's "somewhere don the crazy river". I just had espresso so why creative thoughts are racing this Sunday. The synth work is very tasteful BTW, I wished it continued longer.

Hello fellow espresso bro! Thank you for the link to the DD track, as it was surprisingly one I had never heard, and it's good! (though they didn't do much that wasn't good) I've gotten out of the habit of listening to DD, as my wife pretty much hates them with a passion, heh. I actually couldn't name a Robbie Robertson song, though I have heard of him. I agree that some spoken word would be good, but I only finished the song because of the loop challenge I guess. Maybe I'll take it further, who knows? Thank you for the kind comment!

That could be due to the drums coming from DR-550-samples that are more or less edited... which simply has this kind of sound (that I also happen to love... must be due to being born in the 90s and having a mother loving 80s synthpop and wave XD)
anyways, thanks^^

on Stiff-Arming Stars by Evisma
Congrats on the new Guitar. I like this piece when 1:22 kicks in as the moving bass-line is phenomenal. I like the percussion choices on this, agree slightly with static about the tone of the drums and percussion. I would also mix the guitar slightly (like a hair) further back in the mix, the excitement of getting a new toy always makes us mix it to forward cos we want to hear it. This is such a solid tune though I'm glad I listened and I'm glad U made it. Now I want to to hear a kick ass solo over these beautiful arpeggios you have created.
Oh and thanks for the nice words on the forum about your favourite artists on looperman. I'm glad my charming personality brings something to the table here. ;-

on back into the light by larrywiggles1
Happy New Year Mark.
I like the song (song writing). The Midi like instruments feel just a bit static too me in this mix, almost too precise. If you can add a more organic element to this song it would be utterly brilliant as the Ideas you have for arranging are spot on. And it's not that I don't like the instrument choices, it just feels stiff too me musically, and that can be worked out.
cheers

Hi Steve, happy new year to you to and a massive thank you for your very constructive comments and I do agree. My first uploads came from me and the way I wanted them to sound, with this one I was too focussed on everything being right. I am going to adjust some of the sounds and add some vocals for a final mix sometime in early 2015, that said I still love this track because it is about me and the last year! really glad to see your music is still gracing looperman. my very beast wishes and take care Steve...thanks again.

i am really glad you had a chance to check out the track, cru. it is about as deep as I have gone so far with the percs. the "industrial" genre designation was pretty much after the fact as i still have no clue about genres, let alone control over writing in them. thanks VERY much for the positive review.

Intro Blends into the main theme extraordinarily well my friend. This is just an awesome collaboration. This track my friend would belong on that DVD no problem whatsoever.

on Honey Mango Heaven by StaticNomad
Superb opening, sublime and yet compelling in it's trance like sounds. Synth Pads are awesome. Drums at 1:19 are cool . Then @ 1:53 the sounds you normally make are there but you are branching out, and being so so creative these days. Yeah 4:42 has a small glock like synth that is subtle and nice. ou can really get lost in listening to this one, which is a great thing. The break @ 6:47 is epic and almost gospel like with that quiet organ sound. ou know I think we have heard your talent so much we are starting to take fro granted what it is you provide us in your songs sometimes. just maybe. But I hear you putting all the things you have learned and done in the last 2 yrs in your most recent tunes and it's stellar. @ 8:18 there are some synth stabs that are awesome in there slow build up in this song, and just make the sense of urgency so complete @ this point in the song and then the bass goes all fret-wire. The then resonated g-tar joins in the orgy of sound and percussion. good stuff, and then just the synth stabs which you bring the bass back and the drums , and then laser effects. your a madman.. lol, Then the guitars distorted and processed all to climax to a denouement of a cello chord, brilliant. Brilliant.

Moment of silence....Brilliant.
Great work my friend.

Yo.

Yes, intro was enjoyable and relaxing to make. It's a continuation of my only ever proper drumless track (Visible Aura) that I had to remove due to 50 track upload limit.

First organ-based granular synthesis sound was supposed to be a placeholder then I got so used to it I decided I like it a lot. The pads are the heavenly part of this.

Gentle drums at first before we get fatter and more badass. Simple but effective beat at 1:19.

"1:53 the sounds you normally make"

Yes, funky git riff 4U there. Three finger palm muted picked chords with different fills. Then my classic slide resonator stuff. It's become a real go-to sound and a major musical identity for me. I still don't know of anyone else using it across so many genres. Most major players mostly do it in country or blues. Some spine-tingling notes eg 4:09.

4:19 - no fuckin way - a Conscious Key Change! But still sliding about. Now introducing some beautiful keys. Two different synthstruments. One patch is called 'Water Piano' and can be heard in the first min of my track Into The Out There.

"really get lost in listening to this one"

I did and that's very much the idea. Heaven's a good place to get lost but at least you're never far from a honey mango.

Swing jazz section (5:16) is real dreamlike stuff, especially when slide returns at 5:38. Dream slide jazz.

"break @ 6:47 is epic and almost gospel like"

Same sound as the first notes of track. Just lower notes this time. Needed a break to join swing jazz with rest of it and I thought drumless section would be good.

"we have heard your talent so much we are starting to take fro granted"

I know what you mean and I sort of do too. I've done so much in my many tracks that sometimes I find it quite predictable how new tracks are going to go so I get a bit bored doing more and more lengthy far out stuff. Must branch out. Learning new instruments would help, as would working with vocalists. Actually working with other human being musicians is the utimate goal. Still have some unfinished female vocal work from a few years ago that you'll like.

"then the bass goes all fret-wire."

Don't know what that means. Bass in the fast trance stuff is same bassline from 3:12 until 9:02 when it kicks in to synth bass. Slide trance!

9:36 hands in the air drumless breakdown for slide trance clubbers and then the mad laser show. Everybody go mothafuckin crazy.

No idea how to end it so just went with dramatic stop and lingering strings. And short enough to fit on the site at 128K.

Thanks again for your high praise.

More neat pop singles from me coming very soon.
