Very creative and interesting, some ideas reminded me a bit of Bran Van 3000 in execution, but others are just your pure creativity. well done.

on back into the light by larrywiggles1
Happy New Year Mark.
I like the song (song writing). The Midi like instruments feel just a bit static too me in this mix, almost too precise. If you can add a more organic element to this song it would be utterly brilliant as the Ideas you have for arranging are spot on. And it's not that I don't like the instrument choices, it just feels stiff too me musically, and that can be worked out.
cheers

Hi Steve, happy new year to you to and a massive thank you for your very constructive comments and I do agree. My first uploads came from me and the way I wanted them to sound, with this one I was too focussed on everything being right. I am going to adjust some of the sounds and add some vocals for a final mix sometime in early 2015, that said I still love this track because it is about me and the last year! really glad to see your music is still gracing looperman. my very beast wishes and take care Steve...thanks again.

Nice organ intro, great mix. Has a Curtis Mayfield vibe to it even with a female lead, I like this quite a lot.

I do notice a somewhat C. Mayfield vibe, now that you mention it.

Clearly has an industrial vibe to it. Very trippy then comes a very dissonant funk sound. your choice of chords structure is most interesting. I liked this one.

i am really glad you had a chance to check out the track, cru. it is about as deep as I have gone so far with the percs. the "industrial" genre designation was pretty much after the fact as i still have no clue about genres, let alone control over writing in them. thanks VERY much for the positive review.

Love the phased synth sounds with the vocals. You have come such a long way from when you first started. I think you have more eclectic tendencies in you then I do now...and it does you well. This is Brilliant. its futuristic and retro at the same time. It is Lagom.
Awesome work. I hope you win the challenge.

After my first listen it reminded me so much of a really retro synth sound that was pioneered in the 70's. Almost like Ultravox! (with John Foxx) not (Midge Ure) But with a psychedelic twist like the band mushroom performs.

Hi Steve, thanks about this comments and those links.I always love to discover few elements of my track are already on some great professional songs like Ultravox or the band mushroom performs. That means for me im in the right road to be better than I am at this moment.

Just for fun there are the link of Stringer:

please take note im way better now XD. Hope you undersant why I do not uploaded this on looperman (could ruin my popularity if I have one).

Intro Blends into the main theme extraordinarily well my friend. This is just an awesome collaboration. I had a DVD from a few years ago called True North, and it was spectacular scenes of the north wilderness with amazing new-age music in the background. This track my friend would belong on that DVD no problem whatsoever.
Great work my friend.

on Honey Mango Heaven by StaticNomad
Superb opening, sublime and yet compelling in it's trance like sounds. Synth Pads are awesome. Drums at 1:19 are cool . Then @ 1:53 the sounds you normally make are there but you are branching out, and being so so creative these days. Yeah 4:42 has a small glock like synth that is subtle and nice. ou can really get lost in listening to this one, which is a great thing. The break @ 6:47 is epic and almost gospel like with that quiet organ sound. ou know I think we have heard your talent so much we are starting to take fro granted what it is you provide us in your songs sometimes. just maybe. But I hear you putting all the things you have learned and done in the last 2 yrs in your most recent tunes and it's stellar. @ 8:18 there are some synth stabs that are awesome in there slow build up in this song, and just make the sense of urgency so complete @ this point in the song and then the bass goes all fret-wire. The then resonated g-tar joins in the orgy of sound and percussion. good stuff, and then just the synth stabs which you bring the bass back and the drums , and then laser effects. your a madman.. lol, Then the guitars distorted and processed all to climax to a denouement of a cello chord, brilliant. Brilliant.

Moment of silence....Brilliant.
Great work my friend.

Yo.

Yes, intro was enjoyable and relaxing to make. It's a continuation of my only ever proper drumless track (Visible Aura) that I had to remove due to 50 track upload limit.

First organ-based granular synthesis sound was supposed to be a placeholder then I got so used to it I decided I like it a lot. The pads are the heavenly part of this.

Gentle drums at first before we get fatter and more badass. Simple but effective beat at 1:19.

"1:53 the sounds you normally make"

Yes, funky git riff 4U there. Three finger palm muted picked chords with different fills. Then my classic slide resonator stuff. It's become a real go-to sound and a major musical identity for me. I still don't know of anyone else using it across so many genres. Most major players mostly do it in country or blues. Some spine-tingling notes eg 4:09.

4:19 - no fuckin way - a Conscious Key Change! But still sliding about. Now introducing some beautiful keys. Two different synthstruments. One patch is called 'Water Piano' and can be heard in the first min of my track Into The Out There.

"really get lost in listening to this one"

I did and that's very much the idea. Heaven's a good place to get lost but at least you're never far from a honey mango.

Swing jazz section (5:16) is real dreamlike stuff, especially when slide returns at 5:38. Dream slide jazz.

"break @ 6:47 is epic and almost gospel like"

Same sound as the first notes of track. Just lower notes this time. Needed a break to join swing jazz with rest of it and I thought drumless section would be good.

"we have heard your talent so much we are starting to take fro granted"

I know what you mean and I sort of do too. I've done so much in my many tracks that sometimes I find it quite predictable how new tracks are going to go so I get a bit bored doing more and more lengthy far out stuff. Must branch out. Learning new instruments would help, as would working with vocalists. Actually working with other human being musicians is the utimate goal. Still have some unfinished female vocal work from a few years ago that you'll like.

"then the bass goes all fret-wire."

Don't know what that means. Bass in the fast trance stuff is same bassline from 3:12 until 9:02 when it kicks in to synth bass. Slide trance!

9:36 hands in the air drumless breakdown for slide trance clubbers and then the mad laser show. Everybody go mothafuckin crazy.

No idea how to end it so just went with dramatic stop and lingering strings. And short enough to fit on the site at 128K.

Thanks again for your high praise.

More neat pop singles from me coming very soon.

It was great to discover Brian Ferry! I love music from 80's (I'm 30).
The combination of PinkFloyd 'echoing' and funk-disco synth sequencing on the 'Limbo' is excellent.

on Update3 Dance With You Ft Noemi by SeriouslyJoking
you did a fine job arranging this one. vocal filter is interesting on the pella, sort of a distorted feel. I might want to back the vox down in the mix just slightly and bring up your wonderful arrangement. Also later in the mix I would think about adding some more complex percussion. But truly a nice piece of work you have here.
Steve
SeriouslyJoking
SeriouslyJoking replied 9th Dec 2014 - 11 years ago
Hi Steve!
I'm still holding on to my new me and working strictly on this track to get it finished.
And I did just the thing with the vocal you suggested and turned it down a bit so it's not as much in your face as before...but is it too quiet now?

I still have to redo the vocal line from start and try to EQ out the distortion and get back all the power in her voice and all the other great stuff which are now drowning because of the poor vocal mix.

Also missing a proper bass line here but is it really needed when the guitar takes all the space?
About the more complex percussion - yes, I'll look into that also.

Just redid the intro and created an outro.

So I guess I'm almost finished with the first stages now!!!

YEY.

Thanks for listening, Steve and take care!
Cheers/ SJ =)

on human 80s remix by larrybarrow31
Well that brought back some memories.
First of all nice work. I like the gospel version with a touch of rap. great job.
The Human League is is one of the reasons I got into synthesisers "Don't you Want Me"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPudE8nDog0&html5=1
After there next EP and Album they were floundering and were looking for a hit song.
2 former Members of the Time (MInneapolis based and Prince related), Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis had formed Flyte-tyme music and had been shopping there song Human around the music world for about a year and had quite a good reception to it. The Human League management contacted them and they agreed to produce the Album, include this song and write two others for the album that would be called Crash. The Album is very different from any in the Huma Leagues catalogue but to this day they all credit this one song Human for saving there careers.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1ysoohV_zA&html5=1 (Human)
Human was the first song that introduced me to the concept of 9th chords which are like a Minor-Major 5 note hybrid chord that sounds so lush when used.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jBwWP0YMws&html5=1 (Love is all that matters)
The twelve inch singles of these songs had instrumentals, dub versions and accapellas. I remember using the beats by splicing together tape so I could use the drums for my own early songs.
These guys along with Prince, Roxy Music, Queen and David Bowie are my early mentors in how to write a song.
This last link is a mashup of Human and a Madonna tune.
thanks again for the great memories this Saturday.

on The Ultimate Age of EDM by cg5music
I feel like I am being whipped by my speakers as I listen too this. Not that that's a bad thing (or is it..very confused at the moment) . The production is Grande and you captured this element of EDM very well. I could see this being very big on the dance floor. But myself as an eclectic musician I would want to think about how I could keep that element of bass & drum and add some melodic element that is different from all the rest of the crowd to either stand out, or lead the pack in musical innovation.
Nice Work Overall.

on Stay featuring Farisha Haque by RichieWinn
Richie, this is kick ass. I agree with Planetjazzbass on this one. When Auto tune (not a fav of mine) is used right woith a good singer the sounds can be very creative. Par Example Soshy with Timbaland and Nelly Furtado with "The Morning after".
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25LBTSUEU0A&html5=1
And Soshy without Autotune.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnvJA_BlgC0&html5=1
When Auto tune is used with a great singer in a good arrangement to me it's like a good use of a Vocoder. This tune has all those elements and I am very impressed with everything about this one.
great work

promenade2239
promenade2239 replied 29th Nov 2014 - 11 years ago
Thanks Steve. The Rhodes sound is from 'MrRay22' plugin (as always) with some effects (lots of compression and some distortion, a bit of the modulation effect as well). All the keyboards are performed by me on my tracks indeed. Not really good so far - I just started to develop some more stylistic playing recently. Still not there. It's because I do not have enough time for practising.
The other synth lead is from 'MinimogueVA' plugin - I like the sharp lines it does. It is probaby that sound you are referring to.

Really glad you liked my work - I was inspired by the bassline from some StaticNomad's song that popped up the other day and the entire composition was developed from that.

Thanks again for your time and nice words, Alex
