Okk Agree with other comments. very good song you need to back down the gain on the vocals and eliminate or minimize the reverb if you can. When I first started recording I was so wary of my voice I used to try to hide it with verb and chorus but I have learned there are other ways to make you sound awesome on this song. If this is mixed and mastered properly you would have a very nice song..
Cru
Totally agreed gaining knowledge takes time and effort, plus the experience of hands on...first hand knowledge trumps all....there's no magic button you press and suddenly it's there...I have less than a
Year of recording...and have owned my first mic less than that. I appreciate and need feedback, but it offers me nothing if it's not gear to my learning curve...
hi, thanks for your comments.
I just made another remix (the last one) and updated again this track! - it's quite nice too, a bit in a breakbeat manner. I started again from scratch.
You may like this one also. Greetings, Alex
thanks a lot, I just made another remix - it's really different now. You may check out this new version if you like, I think it is much better from the first one. thanks again, Alex
First notes of that harmonica made me feel like on was on a moving train in the prairies. Your voice reminded me if I combined Dylan with Dan McCafferty of Nazareth fame. gruff gritty and emphasizing the consonants.
Nice work Gentlemen
Cru
Ok where do I start. First and foremost good job, the eclectic nature of this tune makes me smile as I love to do the same thing. The intro was eerie, spooky and full of good things even if her voice is just slightly out of tune it adds to the dissonance of it. Your chord structures were gorgeous, again with a diminished chord stuck in the riff just made it for me. The use of a few styles throughout the mix was nice as well. My only complaint (small one) is I would like to hear a more complex percussion added to this one.
Otherwise brilliant song
Cru
Thanks Cru - I appreciate the listen and the kind comments. I take your point on the percussion but I tried to keep it dancey - I'll try some variances and see if I can add better percussion.
-clindsay
Very cool, Once I disassociated the sounds with my original I could appreciate your more drum and bass with jazz version. The Sax was nice and I liked the ending, nice work Alex.
Steve
nice double post:) - thanks again! maybe I will develop or edit this song soon. I wanted to make some sweet and liquid electronic drum and bass but finally this is an instrumental fusion (as always) - probably my second attempt on dnb ever.
really glad you liked my work, alex
Very cool, Once I disassociated the sounds with my original I could appreciate your more drum and bass with jazz version. The Sax was nice and I liked the ending, nice work Alex.
Steve
I was waiting for the guitar. and lo and behold 2:05 there it was. Very dissonant and cool that you made this one. A great artist spreading his wings a bit is always welcome.
Steve
Hello Steve , thanks for the spoiler (was a joke)to be serious I would thanks you a lot for these words "A great artist spreading his wings a bit is always welcome." one of the best thing a person tell me !
Very cool deep house. It's like one very long denouement with no climax. Almost as if the song to come after will be the release. Keeps you listening for that moment. Clever Idea.
Cru
Great work my friend I love the electiveness of all of it. I think if Static Nomad reviews this he will comment on the reverse cymbals. ;-)
I love how it changes dynamically. Mixing wise I thing you may have used a bit too much low pass filter on this and maybe a bit more EQ is needed. The drums are awesome in this one and I wouldn't listen to any one who says to remove them. Epic Job my friend.
Cru
A Beautiful Day Indeed!. I love the Fret-less Bass work. Raw Vocals reminds me of Joni Mitchell in some ways. Then that awesome guitar. I could see Tumbleweed loving this one. Then the Harmonies just cemented this one for me. Great Job!
Fav'd
Thanks for your detailed comments. Lacey indeed has great vocals, and she can do harmony on the fly. Badhuman cemented the original guitar work, and did some stellar work with it.
Intro Pan was extraordinary. Had to listen again. love the bass line. Sly & Robbie are the standard I judge all dub tracks. And I feel a bit of there influence on this one. guitar is just perfectly placed in the mix. love the Rhodes as well. The only thing I would like to hear in this is maybe a phased synth. other than that nice work gentlemen.
cru
Thanx Crucethus. I grew up listening to dub B.sides and Sly & Robbie were often the rhythm section on those tracks so yup doubtless a bit has rubbed off on me. Thanx for the comment my friend. Maybe a bit of phase on a remix . . . .
Very nice, minimalist arpeggios sort of a hybrid of techno and trance but like you I enjoy Phillip Glass and a very minimalist structure so I think it's just fine the way it is nice work Alex
Steve
Thanks a lot Steve. It's really nice to hear you enjoyed this track. I am happy you had a chance to hear developed version - the song was initially quite simple. After reading the MWRatridge comment I thought of reworking it again but didn't know how to make a progress - DanceDemagogue sent me today his remix - my new version is based on his work.
I really like minimal-music. Probably the 'Variations for winds, Strings and Keyboards' by Steve Reich http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xb6vtl_variations-for-winds-strings-and-ke_music will be my favourite ever - I can't remember how many times I was listening to this.
There's a lot of things happening along the track now so I do not know if it's 'minimal' anymore, but of course it still can be, if needed...
Thanks for your time and nice comments on this track - it's always appreciated. Alex
I would call this Aceed-Step. As it has elements of old school dub-step and even older school aceed (acid-house) with a sprinkling of Electro. Super Creative and spivtastic (A new word to secribe great electronic music)
Steve
Hey Steve, thank you very much for your comment on this track! I really can't claim to know much about old school dubstep, I just took a ride on the wave (2012-2013) for a little while and then nearly lost myself in the undertow. Acid though I've been enjoying for quite a long time. I like the acid from the early 90's and the early zero's especially, but I can't help but listen to new stuff when it comes up. Coming from someone who knows their classic electronic music well, your comment pleases me! Appreciate it!
Il est Parfait! J'aime les "overdrive" The slightly distorted sounds and the haunting pads are perfect for this maudlin Franco-Ballade! I enjoyed this.
Cru
Very optimistic intro. Slides into something akin to funk but also showing shades of prog as well. Enjoying the groovy bass. 1:37 starts a bass that P-Funk would be jealous of. 2:34 has a nice drum roll than an awesome slide bass. And then some slap bass (chorused) great bass work on this one. 3.25 has this weird vox synth that I like. 4:04 I feel a transition coming on. Subtle pads growing and broadening with some nice effects. Then you tripped my brain @ 4:51 with the aceed effects, was not expecting that. nice bass stutters as well and reverse effects. 5:42 transitions us into a new sound of reggae guitars and wild synth effects and reverse percussion snares. 6:31 nice bird synth effects and then the pads get cool as well. This part at 7:01 reminds me of Roxy Music's "SAme Old Scene" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXOgQN1a7bE&html5=1
Specifically the string synths.
Some hard guitars at 7:29 with Double bass drums and a hard bass. The guitar effects are amazing in this part.
8:47 has a nice synth let down and the a guitar solo that has rhythmic qualities that stays true to the song.
Love the ending as well.
My Friend.
Best work I have heard from you.....
This was well thought out.
every minute made you think and yet enjoyable groove throughout.
mix was fantastic.
Up beat , yet I knew it was you but you were unpredictable in this tune and that was very cool. You totally through off my sense of what should come next based on my music theory experience, and what I know of your earlier works.
Sorry for slow reply to your fine and touching review. I'm sure I've got at least 20 tracks I prefer to this but it has grown on me since uploading. You're welcome to it as your favourite of mine. Probably 303 stuff that really sets it apart for you.
Guitar intro is optimistic (good adjective).
"1:37 starts a bass that P-Funk would be jealous of"
Maybe. I think it's the bass slides that really makes that bassline cool. Played many years ago probably to a different drum groove. The track is a combination of old setup sounds (eg Korg Z1, shit Yamaha drum machine, Rebirth 303 loops) and my newer sounds and software.
"2:34 has a nice drum roll"
I like that. Must do it a bit more.
Slap bass is something I used to play quite a bit in teenage years but no longer as I ain't in practice so it batters fingers and thumb. I started out as a bass player so used to be much better at it. But it's cool here and a nice little, brief surprise.
3:25 killer Korg Z1 lead sound. Simple notes but good movement with left hand on its X-Y pad. Some scratchy glitch FX added afterwards eg 3:53, 5:33.
The main drum kits I use in the track are hard rock/metal kits, which I find surprising as it's not a heavy track till the last few mins.
"4:51 with the aceed effects, was not expecting that"
No one ever expects the aceed. Aceed's chief weapon is surprise. Surprise and modulation. And squelch. Aceed's chief weapons are surprise, modulation and squelch.
5:42 reggae guitar. Had to add drum hits to mask the cutup nature of that guitar part. Otherwise would have sounded choppy. Couldn't manage to replay the part as I did it years ago.
6:31 good point about bird synth. It sounds just like that. 6:41 I just add distortion+reverb to make same part bigger and better.
6:51 Korg Z1 string pad. Very rich and bassy.
7:29 no guitar! Just the earlier (eg the previous bar) cool slidey bass guitar part with added plugin distortion. Saved me bothering to play a new part.
Then no guitar until pumping riffs at 8:26. The lead work is all Z1 synth soloing + massive delay n distortion starting 7:47 . Hard synth rock! 8:21 very cool.
8:45 transition OK, not great. Guitar solo to lead us into chill ending. New chill guitar 9:43. Very happy with jazzy drums behind it.
Glad I could be unpredictable for you in this one. 'Tis my aim with every track.
I look forward to taking delivery of your 72 virgins (old will do). Will look out for a large truck delivery from Canada. Damn, better go out and buy 72 beds now. Or maybe only 36 (they can share).
So Sorry for your loss. This is an Amazing tribute piece. You do an interesting mix of minor chords and the chords from "T.A.P.S."
Peace be with you my friend.
Steve
Thanks Crucethus. I had to look up T.A.P.S and it sounds similar to the last post solo that I sampled, I noticed a subtle difference. Stay strong brother. - B
Glad u Liked the remix, I created three distinct styles to give you a choice of what direction you might want to go in. The consensus so far seems to be the third movement in breakbeat style.
"though the strings you added in oddly faded in on the last notes of the piano"
Yeah I wanted to feature the strings on there own for a bit. As Eric also put it would be interesting to hear. I just did it before even reading that but I think he is right. The strings have value on there own as well.
In the future I will be working on a full length remix in the third style.
peace
