Very nice composition Doug. Opening Piano Remined me slightly of Judas Priest "eulogy" off of the angel of retribution album. but this morphs into cinematic splendor. I love the strings chord progressions.
good work, fav'd

Rhodes and a strong bass response to open this. I might push the bass slightly back down in the mix as it hurts the stereo seperation on this mix, and I want to hear the exciting stuff you have going on in the background. Those synth sounds you use are magical. 1:50 has a nice brass synth sound , then that resonator guitar comes in with the familiar percussion. Seriously like maybe a -.7 on the bass gain. Very good and interesting melodies abound in this work. but the subtle touches of the synths and background is what is impressing me the most. 4:10 is that a synth-soprano sax? Drums and percussion are spot on in this part. There is so much too like and digest at this part. the chime synths are nice and almost Harry Potter (music) like (go back and watch the second film and listen to the musical soundtrack in the background and you will understand. The groove is strong in this one at this point and I am swaying. Now I am hand slapping the drums. Apres 6 mins you are entering a cool zone. Then the resonator guitar. The mixing reminds me of the combination of Bryan Ferry and David Gilmour when they did "Is Your Love strong enough?" for the film Legend. Perhaps the nice use of synth sax. 9:20 is a nice effect. I liked the ending. great job except for the 2 notes at the very very end that don't belong.
Crucehole
Yo. Is Crucehole an ass reference or the type of hole in the ground that a Crucethus usually lives in? Or the type of cartoon hole made when he is thrown through a window?
Was waiting for your review, partly cos I thought this might be one of your favourite ever tracks of mine.
That first Rhodes part was the foundation of the track and I vary it for a while before returning to it in the second (uptempo) half (with further variations).
I will go back and check the bass levels as I have to return anyway to remove those final two "export error" notes.
Yes, the synth sounds are magic - Nomadgic. My own unique brand of magic and not to be confused with no magic. I try to sprinkle a little Nomadgic on all my tracks. Alas, sometimes it does not stick.
No idea why 1:50ish has brassy synth sound but I hear it now you and Midisparks have mentioned it. Just a preset I dialled up and modified slightly.
No resonator guitar in that rocking section, just regular electric. Resonator only in one section - slide solo on 7:02.
4:10 I can hear no synth sax. Lead part there is the arppeggiated, bowed violin so not sure how you're hearing sax. There's mega evil synth sax in my unfinished jazz metal track so you'll like that.
Chime arpegg is cool though I don't read or watch any Harry Potter but can imagine what you mean.
3:40-4:10 is some mega chill funk. Check the high bass g.
"Now I am hand slapping the drums"
What else would you slap them with? Dick gets painful after an hour or so when I do it.
5:45 approaching "a cool zone" with new bassline that reminds me strongly of New Order's fantastic Blue Monday. Such a clever and timeless track.
I did listen to Is Your Love Strong Enough (no, thanks for asking) when you sent me the link. Don't know why the mixing here is like it.
9:20 is a freeze stutter effect I have used occasionally in many tracks, Into The Out There being a good example.
Thanks for the words. Now retreat back to your hole, slap your drums, polish your MS-20 and caress its wah porn joystick.
Intro is brilliant, I love the syncopated drums. Complex and yet compelling sounding. 1:00 starts the build up. and a cool build up, nice synths btw. Very very prog (Danke). 1:50 a nice porn slap bass juxtaposition with some nice flanged guitar sounds. Deep wah bass to end it all. Nice work I liked it.
Cruthanasia
Ok here is my take on this. There is a little bit of clipping I hear, lower your headroom before compressing. Your musical taste is much more eclectic than I gave you credit for my dear. I really like this though. My thoughts on effects are this....when you first get a hold of a new toy you want to try everything and you want to hear the effect slapping you across the face. But as you go on you learn when to hold back and when to use it effectively, and that just takes time and practice. So keep doing these segues as they will help you grow. I have about 26(90 min) old cassette tapes of material (from back in the day) that will never see the light of day because most of them were practice songs. For me listening to Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music, and Also Brian Eno was a master class in how to arrange sounds subtly and effectively. Some musicians used to complain that no one can hear themselves on a Bryan Ferry track which could have up to 30 musicians on it, but the whole sound together is what made it lush and vibrant...tasteful. so keep on keeping on.
Cru
Hi Steve!
Well, I still didn't lower the volume which I really should have and am going too because if I turn the limiter off, the master volume thing turns all red...the good thing is that I now actually understand why and so forth. So going to fix that later.
About the very cool new effects in Ableton - I turned some of them off now and tweaked some others. I'm hearing you there but Im still a little too found of them to hold back all the way. But maybe at the next tweaking.
About your old stash of practice songs - this Looperman account with a maximum of 50 songs (I'm on my 49th now, some of them are hidden) is my stash of practice songs I guess. Too bad people have to hear them!! =D
But I actually don't post ALL of them, I have an other stash in my daw that never will see the light off day.
Well, anyway thanks for the feedback and for sharing your thoughts Steve and I hope all is well with you.

you actually made it a-tonal. this might be the most avant garde work I have ever heard. You just invented scream-funk. I actually love this Antonious...it's bizarre and freaking original...Joe.. This kid should win this contest.....Joe..I think I may have to revive him...

This is an amazing tune. Your Chord Progressions are so Eighties (I recognize), but work so well. Beautiful sculpted production. Schnell, I would counter with Vite ou rapide en
français.

Well produced POP , Personally I hate auto tune, (I would rather hear your voice) but I know it's a part of modern pop now. good luck with the mix tape.
Overall a well oiled pop tune.

Thanks man! Those tips might be what I was looking for. I'll experiment with and see what I come up with. Thanks for always checking in, much appreciated. Have a nice day!
Cool Intro....intrigued so far. As it builds great frequency spread and panning in the mix. I almost want that bass up in the mix a bit more to take the edge off the square wave ping synth sounds. But I love the concept and the song. The ping sounds are the highlight and now we have brassy synth sounds counterpointing it with a nice build wave sound but a bit letdown after that build. To make this massive you need to develop sounds to counter the counterpoint. (if that makes sense) like introducing a cool pad or other sounds as you go along just as creative. now we have glissando added to the pings with massive reverb, which sounds awesome but make it a part of something so much more. There is great potential in this one. develop it. (if you please)
IMHOP.
Cru
yeah it definitely needs more bass, something ill be working on.
ok, so some cool pads and stuff, i can do that :), there is a pad but its very much under the rest of the song.
Thanks crucethus, theres some really good feedback in there, ill be sure to put it to good use :)
Love the fill at2:09, this is oozing with funk and delicious sounds. 2:40 has an awesome late seventies approach to funk. Reminds me of the Boston Band Heavy metal Horns just a bit in this part. Awesome work Scott!
Thanks for sharing this.

So What Zakk Frappe, sorry Zacharius Frappius.Stank Frackka. no still can't write it correctly...anyhoo what he(she) is trying to tell us is that the tune he(She) made is an homage to Bo Diddley who invented this style of progression called "The Bo Diddley beat" a 3-2 Clave rhythm used in Afro-Cuban music. I want Candy is one of the many tunes that uses this.

It's a song about stealing, posing, ignoring and getting rich in the end. Don't forget to mention your "roots" when they are drowning in cheap alcohol, so they may get some bread crumbs from your table.
Minimalist but very tasteful. I think if you added some low end wooshes on the first and second beat of the measure to this mix, you would have a dance floor winner.
