I readily admit that I'm not normally into rap much, but I really liked this track. It deserves a lot more listens and comments from Looperman members. Vocals by Emmy are great! I generally prefer tracks that have a melodic line and this track really hit the spot with me. An excellent mix. Sounds very professional, but from your profile looks like you know what you are doing and it really shows with this track. Thanks for posting it!
More! This is very promising, an excellent mix, but needs to be longer and develop more. You might remember that I laid a melody line on one of your previous tracks because I liked it so much. I have the same reaction to this track. Your stuff is very musical. This one is almost delicate in the arpeggiated portions. A really nice floating feel to it. I'd like to hear variation in the chord progression and perhaps something legato overlaying on top of some sections. I really liked the way the string synth chords came in just a little bit behind the beat. It is subtle touches like that which make your tracks stand out.
Thanks! and yes you did a good job on that track! i will make it longer and lay out a few chords or if you want to, i can send you the file and you can add them however you like...
Just found this track, Orlando. Really fine piece of music here. A very rich, enveloping sound. I definitely heard echoes of Enigma, one of my favourites in the electronic music genre. Nice work! Kudos to you and Ed.
Another really wonderful track, Allen. Just sounded great from start to finish. My kind of music. I know there are many different approaches to soloing, but I've always favoured the "less is more" approach. To my ear, its the spaces between notes, as much as the notes themselves, that make a lead line really memorable and have impact. You know how to do this. i don't know if its instinct or if its just highly-developed musicianship, but you do it "just right". Very nice indeed!
Oh my god,I can't believe I spent 30 min replying to you and it did'nt go through!!!
We'll,I'm glad you got the concept...which is not new.
I always want "the song" to come first, even if it's just a couple of notes..if the song sounds good in the end then we all sound good, that's what's important.
Thanks for the listen...I had A much longer reply!

Twanna: Your dad firing Jimi Hendrix because of his feedback totally makes sense to me! The Revue wasn't that kind of sound. That was absolutely tight R&B and that band was so disciplined and so good. I must admit I paid a lot more attention to the band I think than I did to the Ikettes. Anyway, that's a great story! :) I just read that your Dad actually considered that his primary instrument was the piano, not guitar. I actually wasn't aware of his work and his influence prior to the Revue. Now I have to get into iTunes and see if I can learn something. It's a night for discovering new treasures, including your excellent tracks! :)
Daddy's primary instrument was the piano. He told me the only reason he played the guitar with the Revue was to keep everything tight. He said if he moved the guitar up, the Ikettes hair should be moving in a certain direction. If he swung it to the side, that meant something else. He was an incredible pianist. He told me stories how B.B. King came over to his house as a kid and they would play music together. If you want to hear HIS side of the story, get his book 'Taking Back My Name'. He started writing it when he was in prison. He would send me excerpts of it as he finished it. Believe me, I was shocked at what he went through as a child. He is VERY blunt and holds no punches - no pun intended. You WILL get a true sense of who he was and what motivated him. You will also see why Virgin pulled his book after only a short release. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to get a new copy of his book without paying through the nose, but here is a link from Amazon where you can get one at somewhat of a reasonable price.
Allen: Discovered you tonight as a result of hearing your great guitar work on several of Twanna's tracks. Discovered her tonight as well! Has been a very, very good night! You are a really fine musician, but I guess you know that already. I've listened to several of your tracks tonight and I'm headed for several more before I go to bed. Am enjoying them all. You are very lucky to work with such talented collaborators, but I must say they are lucky to be working with you as well. Actually, luck doesn't have much to do with it. You guys just operate at a different level from the rest of us. Something for us to aim at.
Wonderful feel on this track, Twanna. Dave: Really fine guitar work Just the right feel and touch. Not too much, not too little. Right on the money! It's a great track. I'm working through all your tracks, Twanna and its totally making my evening! What a great discovery I've made tonight. You've got a new fan.
Well, Twanna. I am feeling really stupid right now for not having found you previously on Looperman! I think this is the most powerful, emotive track I've heard on this site. Loved the beat and Allen's guitar work was superb. But, no question that it was your vocal that made this track so special. Like others who have commented, I don't understand why you aren't playing on radios all over the place. My only consolation, and it is quite selfish, is that if you were, you almost certainly wouldn't be here with us. Your label wouldn't allow it. But that thought is really selfish of me and I apologize for being so greedy. You deserve to be heard by the world. In the meantime, thank-you for sharing your wonderful music with us.
Eric, you are a Godsend!! I was just gong through something quite heartbreaking regarding me, my music, and what is my purpose. This track was inspired by some of the feelings I am experiencing right now. I believe the Lord sent you to confirm that I should just stay the course. As for labels and the like, my style does not fit their mold. But as long as I have breath coursing through me, I will continue to co-create with my Lord and express myself the only way I know how. God bless you my friend. You don't know how dear your words are to my heart.
I really enjoyed this track, Twanna. I discovered you tonight for the first time after seeing your comment on the track posted by Carrol. You make great music! Wonderful voice. Very interesting that Ike Turner was your Dad. I'm going to have to get my hands on his book. Didn't realize he written one. But, I did see him live sometime around 1963. He brought the Ike and Tine Turner Review to Vancouver BC. Fantastic show! So much energy. The band was so good I couldn't believe it. i still remember the tour bus they had parked outside the Exhibition Hall at the PNE Fairgrounds. I was very impressed. A few years later, in 1965, in upstate NY I saw a guitarist named Jimmy James in a band backing up Chuck Berry at a concert at my college. I thought his playing reminded me a lot of your Dad's playing. A few years later, Jimmy James was Jimi Hendrix. I think he had been influenced by your Dad, as many others were. Anyway, I hope we'll see and hear more of you on Looperman.
Believe it or not Eric, Jimi played with Daddy for a while, before he fired him because of the "feedback" from his guitar. Ironic, it was Jimi's feedback that started a new and innovative way of playing. You have a great ear!!
Well, Carrol! That is a great track. Very funky indeed! Like some of the others who have commented, I would really like to hear you do a complete vocal on something like this. You have an excellent voice. Just checked out your acapellas. We need to see/hear more of you here on Looperman.
Hi Eric, thank you, yes I do love the funk music, I hope to get back on here soon and upload the new software I've had sitting around for nearly a year!
Great track, Mr. P! Very evocative! You do fine work. Mixes are really rich sounding. I just got lost in the enveloping sound of this one. And again, I start hearing little threads of a melody. A vocal, Probably sung in French.
Hey Eric. Sorry for the late response. It gets hectic this time of year here at the facility I work at. Lots of things going on and I wear multiple hats and sometimes don't know which one to wear. LOL. I just stopped putting them on and just doing the job anyway..LOL
Mom shot a picture outside here window and sent the pic to me. I build the song around the picture of her Sunset.
Most excited you like it.
Mark's guitar work and vocals are great on this. I didn't hear earlier versions, but thoroughly enjoyed this track. I have to say that the mixing and mastering work on this just sounds so good. I realize from many of your other posts that you are very skilled at this and I've got a great deal to learn if I ever expect to get my stuff to sound as good as yours does. For example, I never use mono tracks, even for bass parts. I guess I should consider that. And, I never audition my tracks in mono like you do. Not even sure what I should be looking for. Phasing problems? Anyway, not really looking for a lesson in production techniques. just wanted to say that this track, with everything thing from everybody in it, sounded wonderful and you set a standard of quality that makes me really want to learn more and get better. Not sure my old ears are up to it, but I'm going to do my best. I can sure hear the difference in your stuff.
Hey friend, it was good to read this comment as well as your others! You made me happy with your compliments and your eagerness to learn. I guess I should try to clarify the use of mono tracks... Bass is a good place to start. I only use a stereo channel with bass if the stereo image or effects seem essential to the feel or character of the bass sound that is being used. A lot of modern bass sounds are quite stereo, for example those used in dubstep or drum and bass.... however many more basic sounds are essentially mono. If I have my bass channel center panned, and on the meter I don't see differences between left and right, especially at different times, then I will change the track to mono (either using mono plugins, or adjusting the stereo separation on the channel). If say a bass synth patch is very heavy to one side or the other due to how it was designed, then it might be helpful to change to mono as well. As far as monitoring in mono, it can be useful. The biggest thing I look for is being able to hear all parts clearly when in mono. Not hearing certain things could be due to phasing problems or effects which are not essentially mono compatible. Probably secondary is that there is still good sounding separation of the panned parts even in mono. If you make some tracks mono, such as bass or drums which are not stereo to begin with, then your mix will be more mono compatible. Just a couple basics to help. I really appreciate the feedback you have given! Hope you are well!
Ok, Kevin. First of all, I generally don't like it when people mess with traditional arrangements of Christmas music. Although I do listen to Skrillex and some other dubstep producers, I have a limited tolerance for their stuff, largely because it is very demanding music and there's no way I am creative enough to make stuff like that. So, I was operating more on curiosity than interest when I listen to this track. Boy was I surprised! I really like it! Very creative treatment. My wife would hate it, but I thought it was great. Very nice transition from style to style and a really excellent ending. I liked the tempo changes you used. I haven't learned how to program that in my DAW yet. Is there any chance you could do another Christmas track for us before the 25th? You have got something really unique here and it's now on my iPhone for heavy rotation during the remainder of December! :)
Right now I am working on holly jolly Christmas . You are the first person that mentioned the tempo changes and man were they a pain in the butt to incorporate into the song. Because the original is so slow I had to somehow make it work with the usuall dubstep bpm . Thanks so much for your comment I really do appreciate it. Thanks.
Well, I'm not ashamed to admit that have always loved disco! Especially Chic. This is a totally satisfying recreation updating of that genre, Scott. I enjoyed the entire thing. Great horn parts. And, the vocals worked really well, Nice touch with the Youser, Yourser, Yourser quote form Chic at the end. Nile Rogers would be pleased. :) You do good stuff, man!
Good for you, Eric. I know disco got a bad rap back in the day, especially from us working musicians, but I got in with a 9 piece band that did all the latest disco and funk tunes of the time and I learned to like the style. Yeah, I remember Chic's song, and I wanted a 'yawza' in there somewhere, so I recorded my voice and dropped the pitch.
Anyway, thanks for chiming in with your kind words.
Just heard this track for the first time, MystirP. It has a really dreamy, floating kind of vibe which I liked a lot. You probably haven't seen any of my posts on other tracks, but there are some that just seem to connect with me and I immediately start hearing melody lines, usually for vocal parts that I want to overlay on the tracks. This is one of them. I can never find the right vocalists to accomplish what I hear in my head, unfortunately. As Crucethus pointed out in his post, I could download this using Video Downloader but I won't because that would be disrespectful of another Looperman member. And you probably wouldn't want a melody line layered on because the track is so special to you, but if you ever get curious about how it might turn out, PM me. This is a special track for sure!
Hi Eric. Thank you for your comments and yeah, it is a special song. I got the idea pretty much that evening when I started messing with the loops used in this piece. However, I am unwilling to allow this piece be changed in anyway due to the reason it was composed. However, I am curious as to your idea and could list it as a collab so long as the original stays posted.
Send me an email link and I'll send you this song if you promise not to change anything until I hear the changes.
Saw your post about selecting a microphone and decided to check out your tracks. Seems that you haven't been on Looperman for a while, which is a shame because you have a really good vocal style I think and it would be great to hear more from you. Personally, I'd like acapellas but that's just being selfish I guess. I think the tonal quality of your voice is quite distinct and although it is more bluesy or rock-oriented it might be really interesting to meld it into an EDM track and break some new ground. So, I hope we'll hear something from you here on Looperman when you get your new mic! :)
First of all, this was an excellent orchestral piece. Nicely put together. I agree with Dan that it needs to be extended and the melodic lines need more development. This could work as is as a short musical segment in a film for sure, but I think you could do a lot more with it. Very nice work!
Well, I very much enjoyed this piece, Johnny. I'm partial to piano, so I guess that was part of it, but this composition was very interesting and really nicely done. I would have been interested in hearing the strings or other orchestral instruments take over the lead role from the piano periodically. You did have them playing in unison at times, and I think that's what gave the idea of switching off between them. Something to experiment with perhaps on your next opus! :)
A really nice, danceable track for sure, Zee. It has a very infectious "lilt" to it. You do have the levels maxed out for most of the track and I generally prefer to hear more dynamic range, but this seemed to work really well.
Many thanks for your comments and feedback. Yes, I have had volume issues for quite a while. Most of the time,m I am recording with 5.1 surround through headphones, so unaware of the volume.
Just discovered this track, Luizor. It is excellent. You have a real knack for doing catchy melodies and your vocals are right on the money. I think you should post your "Bassline" track here on Looperman. You can put a link to the Youtube version in the Description section, but the audio deserves to be here for sure.
Well, mhyst, this is really great track in my humble opinion. Vocals are excellent. Really good melody line and delivered very professionally. Whole track sounds really polished. Excellent mix. I liked the interplay of the various synth parts. It never got boring. I know trance is supposed to be fundamentally repetitive (that's the point of trance), but I actually like to hear variation and actual melody lines that lead somewhere. This track had both. Lately, for what it's worth, I've been making suggestions on tracks that I've commented on here. Frankly, I have no ideas for how to improve this track. I like it just the way it is. :) Nice work!
I really liked this track! Minimal and retro. Just the way I like it! :) You introduced little touches of variation just frequently enough to keep up my interest throughout, without detracting from the feel of the track from the repeated synth bass line.
I think the vocal is Harrison Ford in "Clear and Present Danger". He's looking at satellite imagery of a terrorist training camp in North Africa someplace. Am I right? Do I win something if I am? :)
Well, I understand that this track was serious, but you are right - it also was hilarious. I enjoyed the whole thing from start to finish. You have a wicked sense of humour I think. Nice production, but my focus was on the lyrics. And, that's unusual for me because I generally don't listen to rap and have usually focused my attention on the instrumental parts of songs. The words in this track must have really connected, so that tells me its good stuff.
I checked out a few of your tracks on Soundcloud. You should consider posting some of them here on Looperman. I really liked the "One Thing" dubstep track you did.
Hi EricMilligan first off thanks for commenting and giving your feedback on my track, much appreciated!
haha I'm glad you found the track funny most people who have talked about the track have said about the humor side of it. btw thanks for saying i have a wicked sense of humor. In the past I've made a fair few serious tracks touching on hard issues etc and as I've realized you don't get as many people liking or listening long enough to the songs to get the messages i was trying to get across. I've always liked having a laugh making jokes like most people do so i thought i would try and combine the two to attract people to listen and laugh to the comical side of the track while also taking in the issues i am talking about. It sounds like with you that seems to have worked :) as someone like yourself who seldomly listens to rap lyrics. Once again it pleases me that you like the track and as you have posted a comment you can download it if you wish.
Thanks also for checking out some of my other tracks on my personal Soundcloud page. I will be posting some more up bit by bit. starting with the one you mentioned.
Yes! Really liked this track, Scott. Great drum work, of course. I assume that was all done on your Alesis set? I really liked the Duane Eddy type guitar. Didn't sound like a VST at all. You did a great job on that one. The mellotron pad part had some glissandos that sounded very George Harrison. Loved that treatment. Yes, vocals were a bit dry, so perhaps some reverb would be good. Or, in the alternative, make them more more intimate in the mix. Not sure how to do that with effects, though. Might have needed a different mic arrangement and different vocal delivery. Anyway, I'd experiment. Who did the vocals, by the way? Very nice. An excellent departure from jazz and funk. Always good to get off the beaten path periodically.
Glad you like it. That Duane Eddy guitar is actually the M-tron. I took it down an octave. The vocals were an unknown pella I found some time ago. I collect stuff for future use and I can never remember where I get them.
