on Minus - Ohgr Cover by Spivkurl
Yeah this is the spivkurl we know and love. really dig this mate but then you already know i like the ones you do with vocals.
The synths sit perfectly on the guitars and you sound really good.
The levels are all perfect and i just simply love it.
I actually bought a loop pack of industrial sounds the other week and i haven't managed to do dick with it yet. I must make a point of having another go.

Hey there! Thanks for the returned reviews, means a lot to me! It's funny what you wrote about it being the Spivkurl we know and love, being that it's a cover, but I get it. I got in the habit of using other people's art to express myself with the whole loopradio thingy, and this seemed like the proper progression after it all hit the fan. Interesting that these sound like guitars to people, since they're not, I guess I got the tone right. You should totally check out ohgr if you haven't already, his albums are like some of the best I've ever heard! I'm interested to hear the industrial you create! Take care!

Thought i'd check out something more recent of yours. So far i'm liking what i'm hearing.
You're right about practice and time making you a better musician. This is really nice. Quite the polar opposite of the track i listened to earlier.
I like everything about this track. It's got big swooshing pads, melodic synths plenty of atmosphere and decent grooves.
Dam good tune.

on Droid 3000 by Cyberliam
This is some pretty heavy atmospheric s**t you've cooked up here. You like your freaky sounds huh?
Now the beats just kicked in. Reminds me a little of ninetys techno with that distorted bass drum.
I can see why you called it droid 3000.
The title definitely suits the track.
But what was that intro all about? It's totally out of place with the rest of the track. You should cut that bit out because the rest is good.

thank you for your time and for your feedback. this track is more than 5 years old but i can cut the intro, but not on this one, just don't want to delete it, in original one yes, it's need to be remastered, i agree that it should be much shorter, experience comes with ages ;)
thanks again! and yes! i like freaky gruesome scary and dark stuff! :D

on Time Passage by Orlando51
Wow! This track sure has had a lot of comments already so one more wont hurt right?
Digging the intro, I can't ever get those ambient intros right, i find that really hard to do.
Like the way you gradually work the instruments in piece by piece. That sampling is a nice touch and the whole thing is rolling along niceley. I'm going to pause and listen now as the guitar and trumpet have just come in and the whole vibe has changed to something that sounds like a back track for a Quentin Tarrantino movie like Kill Bill or something.
This is really good work. Everything about this piece makes me jealous of your talent.

This is a nice riff. I like the electronic sounds you've used and it has a nice melody to accompany it.
It breaks down in the right places and then picks back up again.
Nice summer time vibe this is. I think i'm going to crack open a cold one now.
Thanks for sharing this piece.

This really is funky, Interesting beat pattern and time signature.
The soloing and blending of instruments is superb and the melodies, breakdowns and lyrics are all cool as well.
It sounds like an old 8 track recording which gives it a kind of retro feeling,
Very good.

Thanks allot FR,

I appreciate you checking out my track and leaving your comment.

My drums are a bit more intense than most, since I'm a drummer, but the time signature is actually 4/4. The drums make it sound different since the snare is not on 2 and 4. Most of my stuff usually turns out retro sounding since much of my influence was the retro groups, which kinda dates me!

Cheers,
Scott

on Random Acts Of Human Kindness by StaticNomad
Well the intro is bloody terrible, the middle bit sucks and i can't even be bothered to listen to the end.
Just kidding. I've only just hit play and as usual i'm feeling your rhythms and melodies. It has kind of a tangerine dream vibe about it. very deep, very mellow and a good groove.
It makes me think i really must spend more time sorting out my tunes before i post them.
Cheers for sharing Mr. Nomad.
FR
StaticNomad
StaticNomad replied 5th May 2014 - 11 years ago
Yo. I could probably improve it if I got rid of that intro, the middle and then just chopped off the end. Just pare it down to the middle 8 or something.

Anyway, don't listen to Tangerine Dream at all but know of them so I guess that vibe is coming from the intro pad. As far out as my music is, I don't use as many pads as people might expect or as I expected I would years ago when I started my music production journey.

I find they take up a lot of space and I quite often use delayed guitar parts instead to give the far out vibe. But pad and strings are prominent here

Yes, I try to make all my tracks deep. That's what really drives me. I love good melodies and grooves and stuff but I have to somehow make it all deep (however exactly that's done). That's why I don't make pop music and almost all my favourite music is pretty damn deep.

It's a lot easier to make things deep if you're actually playing stuff and not just using samples. And I also tend not to be inspired in a deep way by typical club dance music as I find it often a bit cold so doesn't inspire deep playing.

Shuffle blues is much better for that. Those strings and that sparse drum groove really drive the emotion in the whole thing. That sort of guitar soloing I can knock out all day as it comes quite naturally. You've just got to get the timing right but it's great fun flowing over the lazy grooves.

"i really must spend more time sorting out my tunes before i post them"

Go with what feels right and inspires you. I have to make it deep or I'm not at all happy. I'm also not happy if it sounds too regular and predictable so sometimes spend ages finding ways that I can inject something surprising and original (for me) that I haven't done before. So, the sitar bits in the solo added that vibe in this one, I feel.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Nice piece of atmospheric work. It sounds like a haunted house scene from a movie or something. It would make a great backdrop to a horror flick or a dark video game.
A relentless, spine tingling sound with thunderous beats.
I'm glad i'm not on drugs because this would probably have freaked me right out lol.

Like it when the beat kicks in, thats one heavy bass snare combo. Like the piano riffs and the sounds that accompany it.
This track would sound really good with a vocal. Perhaps you should search for a singer.

I always like to home in on tracks that didn't get much attention first time round, Nine times out of ten i can't figure out why they didn't and yep, this is one of those times.
This track is f***ng excellent. Your vocal skills are excellent. Your style of vocal reminds me of tricky from massive attack in this tune.
The mixdown is brilliant, the score is well written and it's incredibly professional sounding from start to finish.
Really enjoyed this track, i'm downloading it and i'm hoping you've uploaded some acapellas now as i want to use your voice.
Cheers for sharing.

This sounds well old school with those piano keys. Really like what you've done here. I like the track and the way it's been mixed and i like MOST of the vocal. There are a few places where it sounds a little off key but mainly it fits and the track is good.
Nice effort here

Yeah man! Nothing like a bit of thrash to get you up and banging your head.
Dig it when the solo comes in around half way through. The tune really takes it up a level.

There aint no doubt about it.

Well this sounds nice. That vocal fits well, the music is good and it sounds like you've spent a long time mixing this down.
Nice blend of natural and synthetic sounds.
Nice breakdown, good bit of saxophone (I always love that instrument)
Very well constructed if i may say so myself.

I was just reading your profile description and laughing a lot.

Right now I hate this song, probably because I spent too many hours mixing it...
It's not there yet and I'm not sure about the drums at all, they don't sound alive.

This sounds like a radio worthy track mate (except for the swearing bit lol)
It's more classsi-cool than classical.

Solid tune.

on Through 303 by M8TN
The intro reminds me of 80's acid house back in the day when the E's were good and warehouses were the place to be. Everyone tripping and wearing smiley t shirts.
Like the sound you've come up with but it could do with being complimented with something. In order to do so you'd either have to tame the distortion (which will overpower any other sound or use a compression to sort it out)
And just for the record i don't hate reviews that just say "Awesome" it just makes me suspicious that the reviewer hasn't listened to the track.
I've listened to this whole thing and i'm still typing. It's just what i like to do (type while i listen) you get to know people better that way as well.

W.T.F.? This isn't the track i just listened to. I was commenting on "time bomb" a glitch in the matrix me thinks.
Still, i suppose i may as well listen to this one since fate has brought me here.
Liking this one as well. It's got a creepy atmosphere to it like ghosts or something. There's that bongo percussion again with smooth strings and the panning effect has been used brilliantly in this piece.
You sure know how to make a good piece of atmospheric music.

I zoomed in on this one because i liked the title. It is like a ticking time bomb and the atmosphere is great in this track.
I particularly like the percussion in this track (you used that bongo like an instrument which is a nice touch)
This track has a great vibe to it and i can't understand why i'm only the second person to comment on it. It just goes to show how hit and miss this site can be. You have good and bad days and this track must have been uploaded on one of those days where people just weren't biting.
Great stuff.

on Toujours ici by janis71
I say it every time i come round but your tracks always make me wish i could sing.
This is great. I love the way your voice carries the tune. Perhaps you could have turned the music up a little bit as it has taken a back seat in this number. That said i like the layering of the vocals and singing in french is sexy. I love the french language, I got a copy of that Rosetta Stone to see if i could learn it. So far i've used it once because i got p**sed off with the fact that it didn't like my pronounciation of "Une Fille" & "Un Garcon" i tried and i tried, then i threw my headset across the room, turned it off and haven't tried again since ha ha. One day. One day.
Anyway great track.

Two hours after i've had a couple of beers and a glass of wine i've normally had another six beers.
The bassline is cool in this piece but the soloing is fantastic. Again it has that kind of retro feel to it with some nice piano's going on.
I did think it could use a little boost of trebble in places but other than that i enjoyed listening to this track

I like G minor. It's a good key to work in.
Nice to see the return of your vocals as well. Love that synth that comes in at the chorus, thats very grouchy. In fact all of the noises/sounds you come up with are pretty mental (in a good way)
What i like about this is it follows a very unusual pattern. It's a bit like what might happen if the sex pistols teamed up with the aphex twin.
It's a fun track.

Thanks for being the first to leave a comment on this one! G minor was fun to work with, and I think it works for the tone of the song. I'm not sure which synth you mean, but I'm glad you like. I see what you mean, but I'm not sure if it's a usual pattern for me. pistols and aphex... ha ha! Thanks for stopping in!

on My Memories Of A Ghost With The Violin by Orlando51
Of course we are all familiar with Ed's talent so i thought i'd tune in to this one. I can instantly hear tumbleweeds guitar sounds shining through. His stuff always reminds me a little of Chris Issak.
What you've done with the atmosphere is great. Those pad sounds really compliment the guitar and give it your own flavours. It's kind of Pink Floydish in it's trippyness.
A very good track to kick back and relax to.

on Agressive Trap Beat by soulino
Well this is the first "trap" tune i've ever listened to so i'm not familiar with what it's meant to sound like.
Sounds kind of like a cross between hip hop and trance or sum ting.
What i can tell you is that you've produced a really good mix. The percussion is excellent, the synths and riffs are good and everything just gels together seemlessly.
I'd like to hear someone rap over the top of this. Perhaps you could find an acapella that would work.
Good track. I must make a point of listening to more trap.

on I love you-woodkid-home made cover by janis71
This is a hot track.
From the opening line it's just brilliant. I've often thought of writing a love song but i'm far too dark, moody and hyper to do it.
Maybe when i hit the age of about sixty i'll calm down but at the moment it's "Rave to the grave" lol
But anyway, that's completely off topic so i'll just finish by saying i love the guitars and the percussion. But i don't like them as much as your voice.
When are we going to do that collab then? hassle hassle hint hint lol

This track has a mental melody. That bassline reminds me a little of new order or perhaps front 242.
I Like it when the guitar lick comes in that reminds me of the cult a little.
I would have said that this track is more electronic than industrial though.
Regardless of that it;s definitely a bit different and i;m enjoying listening to it. It does have some indusrtrial elements to it but on the whole it's definitely electronic.
