i like how you faded out the percs around 1:40 - now it is a pure ambience for a few seconds. now reintroduction of melodic bit from beginning. now percs and bass finding their way back in. very nice. I guess at this point, from around 3:00 in or so you might be looking for some new material to add? beautiful work. sounds great. best of luck with it.
Dear Midisparks,
thanks for your comment.
In the beginning I wanted to add the melody in the second part, but I refused.
for me it was important to create the atmosphere and mood of around one motive, and I did not wanted other notes.
it was idea...
that sounds a little like the voice of Leonard Nimoy? Is that right? At about 2:40 you break up the beat a little and that is welcome. I suppose part of the concept might be to break things up more - go off on a few tangents to add variety. You could explore a minute or so of pure percs, for example. It is a compelling beat for sure. good luck with development.
I like the spooky feel. i'm coming up with a little loop that you might add here and there to your mix if you like it. I will post and share with you. regards - Dan
I like the crazy sound at 1:06 that announces your upbeat groove. lots of interesting colors and really enjoying the listen. it's great to challenge oneself to achieve a higher level. all the best of luck with developing this one. it is a winner!
Thanks midi. Yea i just liked how that synth moved, so I added it into the mix. Really appreciate you stopping by and listening to a unfinished track! peace
love the synth at 1:17. very dubby sound. nice dissonance between that dubby synth melody and your main groove. great percs writing. best of luck with development!
Pat - I am inspired by your work. Somebody mentioned "endless space in the sound field" that you are able to achieve. I have noticed this before - especially your control of the bass frequencies. This is for sure an area of mixing where the great stand out from the good. Congratulations on your recognition with this piece. Very much deserved. I look forward to working more with you. All the best. Dan
Your comment made me really happy! I have been working really hard lately to deepen my understanding of frequencies and their relation to human hearing, and I think low frequencies are really important in that reaction. You can feel them as well as hear them, even at low volumes. Your words are very complimentary, so I thank you!
ahh - give me that sampled baritone sax! You have a great feel for the woodwinds and brass sounds. They are not always easy to coax into something believable and musical. You seem to get it. You really bring that old school band together beautifully in this one. really enjoyed listening.
I think this would be great music for sitting around smoking something strong in a hookah lounge! i love what you do with percs. really inspiring. i'm not good at genre ID but I was falling into a bit of a trance with this one. the word combos are pretty out there. made out "devil" and "jesus" and "bake me" (? not sure on that one!) nice work!
Thanks, glad you like it. There's Jesus, The devil, In love with the world, Please fasten your seat belts...... but Bake me?! Not so sure, lol. Would be fitting though :D
so cool at 2:30 with the new synth (or guitar?) sound. i'm liking the active bass line throughout and i'm moving. beautiful sounds taking me to a better place. thank you.
nice samples! very creative - musical. There is a minimalist quality to it. I think we have to be slightly hypnotized to be working all day on the line, right? lots of neat colors and holds my interest. thoroughly enjoyed. nice work! Dan
great grabber at the front. that is a neat color that you add at 1:20. wondering what that is. like the way you take your time developing and varying your beat in subtle ways. very cool work. congrats!
folks don't use silence enough. it is powerful. you understand that it seems. getting the drums mixed just right takes time and you seem to have found the groove with them here. nice work. enjoyable listen. all the best.
yeah I always think that, that space is very important to tacks and like you say people don't think about using it enough...anyway ... thanks for taking the time to review it ... the drum are usually the first thing I do on a track sometimes it works sometimes it just is plain frustrating ....nice one and thanks again..
the active xylophone lick is fresh! i'm also liking your strings. what sounds do you use? lots of interesting activity in this one. nice percussion grooves. wondering if the bass might be toned down a bit. good contrast in between sections. wonder how this one might end? regards - Dan
I use a lot of early 2000 samples, and a wide range of other loops. I like the sounds from that time period, I try to incorporate them in w/ the new style of sounds.
And yes the bass needs some work. Thank you for your comments. FT
First of all thank you for the positive feedback. About that eastern sounding instrument...I made it up with the help of

tremendous joy in your track. the energy is contagious. the brass arrangement reminds me of the day - all the way back - like 60s! and 70s! and now it is fresh sounding again! nice work. Dan
It's a hit, midiman! Like a big song on the radio. outstanding professional level stuff (IMHO). Your mix is rich, the drums and the synths all create a beautiful texture for her voice. love when the solo guitar entrance towards the end. big fav.
thanks midisparks I appreciate your comments.. I am quite confused now some say it is a good mix some say it has some timing issues. Might I ask what kind of speakers did you listen to it on.
dark streets. a race against time. suspense. the music conjures up a lot of action imagery for me. I think you do a great job mixing a lot of elements. those vocal sounds also evoke that troubling dynamic of Holiness challenged by Evil! Nice work! Dan
very sweet mix. some of the notes in the piano solo (around 1:38 and on) did not sit quite right against the harmony (to my ear). nice feel. like the instrument choices and how you work around the acapella. nice job.
sweet sounding guitars at the beginning. you could say the bass has a "walking" feel to it that speaks to the jazz influence. I like the slightly bi-tonal sound of the piano against some harmonies in the background. it's a very gentle, colorful work. nice job.
Thank you! This track was a different style for me altogether. My partner on this track has a very non-traditional style with Fl Studio, which was very interesting to work with. Thank you again!
neat little growl at 1:21 LOL! now at 1:40 the monster is out it seems! nice! i like your percs grooves. nice mixing of vocal clips. enjoying a lot. cheers!
Thank you Midi! I appreciate the comment and indeed! I am actually working on album 9 and won't be posting anything for awhile till I am done with it. This song allows for me to venture further into stranger areas. Glad you enjoyed the song!
sounding great through my speakers. i understand how this is dubstep even though you don't do those "interruption" kinds of drops. i like the breakups at 1:45. nice contrasts. it is a grabber of a piece. you are def at home in this genre. big congrats on your work here! regards - Dan
i'm not involved in rap, but seems like you have a great technique with it. not easy to do it well - you know where you are going, you tell a story, you convey personality. great work. listened to it twice! look forward to hearing more. regards - Dan
Thanks Dan I appreciate the check in and i'm glad you liked it! I stopped by your loops section and you've got some velvety sounds (especially the circle of light series). I'll be looking forward to more of your stuff as well!
