This is some interesting track. Very inspiring. So glad to hear an original track. I fell in love with that lazy bass. Could you tell me from which synth it is?

Also the 5/4 beat isn't something that I hear a lot nowadays.

If I may be honest with you, I would like to hear the same track without the synth solo. I do understand it belongs to the track, but it does distract me from the groove somewhat too.

All in all a very nice and original track! Keep them comming.

hi and many thanks for checking out some of my songs! I am here about 2 months, most of my tracks I made using the loops from this site although there are a couple of a bit older songs without loops as well. I can work quite fast.
This track is a bit experimental but it's basically 4/4. There's some 5/8 patterns and other odd things that probably can feel like 5/4 at times ...
The bass was made using 'MinimoogueVA' plugin but I layered it many times and added EQ and stuff. Also some bass-chorus.
It's just an improvisation - trying to stick to the groove. I agree: it is not quite an 'easy listening'.
Thanks for kind words and really glad you liked the original track. Alex

Alex, how are you?

I like this. I can hear Static's influence in the bass, and the slow intro. It's not a jam packed as his, but what you have here is good. I like the way everything is so rapid but held together with the mellow bass line, and chill beat. The panning is good, too. Nothing really squashes anything. Your layering of synths works well here.
The overall mood is an interesting one. All the rapid percussive elements give it a sense of urgency. It's like what I imagine office workers feel like most of the time. Always in some kind of internal hurry to sustain the daily grind.
All in all, it's a good piece. I'll have to check out more of your work when time allows.

Until then, take care.
V.

thank you valve-driver for nice comments! I really like the 'office workers' haha! - this piece is quite 'robotic' in a sence and somehow was inspired also by Kraftwerk music and newest song by RenzWilde. Thanks again for such accurate and funny comparision and really glad you liked what I did here! Alex

Very interesting, Alex. I would refer this style to avant-garde, which is a term not used much in today's music, since there is a genre for every style nowadays. Either way, really good job!

thanks for your nice comments Scott/Franco,
nowadays we have avant-garde but only a-vantg-arde eventhough its so nice and well-defined like this. I can play the simple piano songs too. thank you very much for your time and listening! Alex

Very cool stuff. It's great if I can inspire music like this.

The synth that is keeping the pulse in the intro is a bit like a fast ticking clock.

That lead robotic machine malfunctioning synth is cool. Sometimes it doesn't sound like anyone is actually playing it but then I can hear that you're playing it from the keyboard. Very weird and brilliant sound with so much movement.

0:54 the start of that fast percussive melodic hammered instrument is excellent and so similar to a part in the first few minutes of a brilliant track by one of my favourite ever bands - Ozric Tentacles. You will also like them so check out this track to hear a similar instrument:

Ozric Tentacles - Wreltch

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOaCtCDpfTo

Ah, I've just worked out what that instrument is from reading the track description - a marimba!

2:09 stop of the drums is a really useful break. Things are interesting but that makes it more interesting.

2:26 the start of some great processing to that synth. Delay and distortion and maybe something else.

I guess this is a bit like my music. But there's much more keyboard lead than in my music. Probably because I'm mostly a guitarist and you're motly a keyboard player.

You have lots of other good melodic work from the bass going on in the background but the lead is the star here.

Excellent work and I'm sure you'll say it only took you a few hours. My stuff takes a lot, lot longer. But I also enjoy spending the time with it so I wouldn't want to make a track in one day.

hi and many thanks for such a nice comment on my music! I am really glad you liked this track.

The 'clock' sound is a sampled fragment from 'mallet-section-for-oriental-groove' from midisparks. I started with this to make some quasi-orchestral piece in the style of Steve Reich. Anyway here's my favourite piece of him - it's a 'minimal-music':
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mETgHllnu2U
original song is much longer (over 15 min) but couldn't find the entire track available.
He wrote several compositions for the ensembles of percussive instruments like this.

Sometimes my keyboard playing really sucks for sure as I do not have enough time to practise and develop it at the moment. Here's just some of my weird lines quantized (1/16 and 1/32 time).

I used the mono-synth (MinimoogueVA plugin). If you hold one note and run some other fast notes at the same time the result would be quite interesting.
Its just a compilation of only a few of some of my nice licks and for the most part my malfunctioning patterns:) I'm using a lot of EQ that could change the original sound and make it a synth-sound or simply fit the bassline. Im also often layering the same midi pattern many times with many of my 'presets'-variations of the same instrument just to enhance some interesting phrase.

I really like 'Ozric Tentacles - Wreltch'. It is definitely my kind of music. I just listened to this song but will also take a time for a whole album cause its just sounds far-out and totally absorbing.

Marimba sounds are from 'Edirol Orchestral' plugin. some xylophone sounds used as well.

I combined the 5/8 patterns into 4/4 drum groove (ezdrummer and some loops) - at times it will sound like breaking the beat. That's why I am able to make the song with quite interesting variations in a relatively short time.
I really like the 'Majken Chimera' plugin - it's great for pads, with EQing it has almost endless possibilities... I use delay sometimes but I think it's just my daw here (Studio One2) pushing to its limits. I'm always finding some weird additional stuff on the final mixdown like this... But anyway its quite psyhodelic effect in a sense though:)

I tried to get as I possibly can from your recordings where the bassline is always predominant and designed to drive the track giving so much upper harmonic possibilities.

This track took me about 2,5 hours. But I can't spend more time working on tracks regarding to my lifestyle. I am not really a proffesional musician at the moment, just making some music from time to time and spending more of a time rather listening or commenting songs on looperman. But still plannig to develop my keyboard playing and some production skills as well such a mastering or post-production which really sucks for now.

Again thanks so much for your nice comments and your music that inspired me on tracks like this!

Man, this is so spacy/electronic/alternative. Love that intro. The slow build caught my attention right away. As always, you work in so many elements but in such a subtle way that it's never predictable. All of a sudden I'll hear something woven in and think 'when did that start?' lol

So good. Great stuff! I'm a fan. I fav'd :)

thanks so much for such a nice comment! I'm really glad you liked the track although it's so special and 'unlike' as I experiment a lot and still trying to find my own style and put it into some kind of a musical expression.

Very Cool. Nice use of Re-verb, Love the solo work. But the subtle bass line and the glissando effects of that synth about 2 3rds in do it for me.
Good job Alex

Inspired by a track of Pseudoble. I was noodling along to his track "I wish I didn't know" (which is awesome) and had the words "Snow in Athens" in my head. This with the smooth jazz/fusion atmosphere led me to this track with a sort of Steely Dan feel.

Description : Psychedelic blues hip hop with lead banjo and acoustic resonator slide guitar. Acoustic drum kits, fat basslines, soaring filtered strings, some strong Eastern elements (from guitar and strings), some dub and funk from the bass and drums and a bit of rocking electric guitar. Very unusual piece of music and a trip like no other I've heard. Some of it is like a dark, deep Southern delta blues track over a hip hop and dub backing. All played and programmed by me, no loops used.

After a quite turbulent long travel we’ve reached a totally unknown planet which is mostly covered with clouds. As we pass over it we can see parts of rivers through the clouds that come out of the dark rocky surface in some places. So the whole scene is alternating textures of white, dark gray and silver flashes. Unfortunately there’s no chance to land anywhere so we just pass, wonder and travel on …
