Cool, raw! Reminds me of early Boston punk, La Peste, the Neighborhoods, the Blackjacks...

I def hear the telstar influence, which is the synth sound you chose. Honestly it's a classic song and to have made a song "in that vein" is pretty cool. It also reminds me of drums used in this thethe song "This is the Day".

Cool track!

I'm a huge fan of Matt Johnson. His first LP, Burning Blue Soul is my fave. Being compared to anything he did is a great compliment. Thanks for listening. I appreciate it.

on PLAYGIRL BY AAP FT LEO VALENTINE by djphildrummin
Certainly different. Organized musical chaos. Unique for sure. It's so all over the place as far as what I could compare it to. It's like you took 6 songs, different genres and threw them in a blender and this is what came out. But it's not like it sucks, it's actually quite original and a little mind boggling. Just trying to take it all in just on one listen so I'll give it another go.

Okay. So you wanted to make it sound nuts? You succeeded, congrats! Vox are so well executed, raw and full of energy. Music is impactful and voluminous. What else can I say.

Thanks for sharing, dl for sure!

Cool sound, dark, a bit mysterious. Mix was clear, punchy, bright, enjoyed this a lot!

Reminds me of Lars and the Hands of Light - Me, Me, Me

on You have to fly away by joecramer
Granular, gritty, abrasive and dark and medieval. We as producers should be getting the emotions riled up of our listeners, it's our job. This works for achieving that so you need a raise at your job!!

Cool track Joe!

Thanks Wayne for my raise. I can of course use them. And I'm really pleased that you are giving it to me in recognition of my performance.
A really kind comment, thanks for that.

on SO GLAD 2 BE HERE by NDAPOCKET123
Man, the mix was right in my face, so cool. Love the song, energetic, well played, fun and lighthearted. Horns would be cool, some vox, specifically a female scat track where she just goes off on a musical rant might sound neat too. he

YES , SCAT. WHEN I LISTEN I HEAR ALL THESE LITTLE LINES AND TRY TO FORM A MELODIC TUNE. THATS WHY I SAY HORNS, SAX AND TROMBONE. CLOSEST THING TO THE VOICE. THANKS FOR EARS AND KIND WORDS. PEACE.

on Labyrinth Of The Absurd pt 2 - Pain Has A Face by ValveDriver
What a cool trip I just went on. So much to absorb but it was fun. Quite a composition actually. Lots of textural elements and darker sounds and effects to get the listener to get sucked right into this track and be emotionally affected.

Great job telling a story too. Whether the song has lyrics or not, the composer still has to tell the lister what they are trying to convey. You've done that here, absolutely. Lots of good feedback as I read thru the comments, well deserved.

Cheers!

Thank you, Wayne. I appreciate the kind words.

I have always tried to achieve painting with sound. It hasn't always worked, but I'm glad to hear that it did in this case.

Thanks again.

Take care.

You're just hanging on to letting go, he. I dig the vocals man, delivered with the right amount of breath, emotion and heart that fits the feel of the production as a whole. What's not to like here. Cool vocals and well produced sounds to support them.

TomTom Club meets thethe? To me it has a blend of those two band's influences. I dig it man!

hello Wayne! by this time, bud, you gotta count your own bad self as one of my influences! honest, i thought of what you’ve said recently of the joy in making a track in a short amount of time. i scribbled around w the words all day on and off and found a few beats i thought married well. was gonna try and sit down the next day with the aco to work something but couldnt leave it overnight and i had this mochajones loop i didnt know what to do with. it was awful late and i waspretty ragged when i did the vox but it ended up suiting the track.
thank you, bro, for listening and thank you for being the instigational kinda guy you are.

on lifeee by DFay
Well done man! I enjoyed this, the freshness of it and the immediacy of it give it a natural and believable take on life. The vocals and words are to the point. Your job as the singer is to get the listener to delve into the story you are telling. To me, an honest delivery doesn't come from rehearsing something to death, there has to be some spontaneous, emotional aspect to it that will deliver your message effectively.

I sing everything off the top of my head, nothing is written down till after. I will go back to sing something better or to change some words or add more vocals to parts but it's made up as I go back to record them.

I use ableton so good luck with your answer.

Wayne

DFay replied 16th Sep 2020 - 5 years ago
definitely bro. It's dificult for me to go back change thing cuz I lose the vibe after the first take most of the time. And the project to archive.

Don't worry i use ableton too but i don't know i feel strange when i use it.

on Lush 80s RnB by EricMilligan
Pretty nice track. It sounds like Hall and Oates, if you had them singing on this it would be a hit! Philly sounding r n b. Mix is well done, soothing soft mix for a relaxing track.

I see you have a collab request posted. I was noodling some short melodies and phrases here and there on my acoustic to this. Would that be something you might want to add? I could even give you a couple dry tracks of me trying things thru the song which you could chop up and/or pick and choose what parts go where and how much you want to add to the production. Basically it would be giving you a bunch of loops to pick through. Let me know.

Cheers!

Hi, Wayne. Thanks for the encouragement!

Yes, I thing it has flavors of Philly RnB and a bit of Motown as well. I’ve got a couple of tracks that need a Barry White type vocalist, some others meant for somebody along the lines of Marvin Gaye, some that were my attempt to write an R. Kelly song, and some that definitely are influenced by Hall and Oates.

I really like Hall and Oates. And, I just ate up every episode of “Daryl’s House”. They are both great musicians and songwriters.

Yes, I’d definitely be interested in getting your noodling on the track. I will PM you with my email address so we can get connected on that.

Thank you for explaining who HPL was. I googled it and i got the Houston Public Library, Hartford Public Library, high pressure laminate....he.

Great piece of music man! Mind bending, trippy stuff. Very creative. Sounds like it was made with all 60's and 70's loop machines like the ones Pink Floyd used and 70's synths like the Prophet or mini Moog.

Always a pleasure!

Hello my friend and thank you for your kind review, I'm glad you liked my song. Indeed as you have noticed the use of rather vintage style sounds. I'm glad you now know HPL too, if you are interested in learning more I recommend the stories: "The shadow over Innsmouth" and "The Call of Cthulhu".
A cordial greeting

Very cool man! You went from your dark ages to your enlightenment recently. I always thought you brought a unique approach to the music scene here. This is great, has an acoustic pop feel with all the Eno/Lanois effects to make it yours.

It has pop sensibilities, an urban beat with experimental electronic bits and interesting lyrics. I'm trying to think more about the middle change...yeah that works, cool change. Well done!

Pretty cinematic track, sounds like from the Bladerunner or a sci fi suspense movie. Plenty to keep me interested, good changes, intro, breaks... all cool. Some neat synth work, you seemed to really get what you were looking for for sounds to build the soundscape and create the feel you wanted.

Great job!

on CBG Swap 2020 Lockdown edition by Burtsbluesboxes
The intro was right out of a Clint Eastwood western, I can smell and taste that half smoked cigar as I listen. I would consider that part an interlude, a separate track introducing the piece to follow and connected to it in some way. The main piece is raw, dirty and swampy and I can dig that! Nice composition overall.

Well done Burt!

Burtsbluesboxes
Burtsbluesboxes replied 4th Aug 2020 - 5 years ago
Thanks Wayne :D The intro was messing about on my new Gunslinger guitar making a soundcheck video, I got in the swap. I really liked it so added it in. Great description! I wish I could share pictures here, it's a skeleton cowboy smoking a cigar, strung with acoustic strings with a ghosted (hidden under the lid) magnetic flat humbucker pick up. Yes they work but a bit quieter than electrics. It does have quite an old western kind of sound. It did seem to fit with the following I recorded for the video showing all the guitars that were swapped, what a BLAST that was! :D Always a pleasure Wayne, wish I could hang around here as much as I used to!! I do alot with the cbg groups on fb these days. There's no hope but to build more LOL!!
