Sheeps! ! ! Oh and tabla as well! Nice! Classic sounding dub reggae when the bass drops. I'm diggin it! If I still had a radio show, this would be something which I'd play as well... darn the handling of audio clips on FL 12!! This is going all to well with my strong buzz for the time of day... it just feels right. Taking advantage of the time of year before they historically begin using toxic herbicides to do some naturalism and wildcrafting this morning, and it's always good to come home and hear great songs on looperman. This is one of them! Fave! Thank you for the DL!
This is totally the sort of thing I would have been very into about fifteen years ago! Love it! Very downtempo underground, not quite punk to my ears. I'm thinking Klaus Flouride, Matt Johnson, some Echo and the Bunnymen or even early REM. Before "indie" was a genre, when it simply meant independent. Very cool song! Bug Fave! Thank you for the DL!
This was interesting for sure! It would not suggest house to me if you had not indicated this... but you are the artist, ha ha. I liked some of the synth work, it was nice and bright... good morning music. Could have a lot of potential to be "deepened..." not to say you should make it deep house, heh. Nice one!
Dang this is some out there composition! It's not the kind of thing I've been hearing on Looperman lately, although it reminds me of some sort of fusion between Vig Wig and Beyonce Monroe... who are some of my all time favorite loopers. I don't know what you did to design the guitar chops, but they are sweet! Disturbing, in such a comforting way. Thank you for sharing this! Big Fave, with a side of download!
Hearing this other version today, I can be pretty sure that I like the other version more. At first, I had to look and see if they were the same quality of mp3, because I am hearing a lot of distracting artifacts of some sort in the higher frequencies. They are in fact the same size though, so I have to wonder why I'm hearing this. It also makes me wonder why you did not encode at a higher bitrate, since we are given the space now. I think the details could shine through more this way. Seems like the mix is just far better to my ears on the more recent version. Performances are equally cool, of course, and I'm not sure that they are even different takes. Both are awesome, but I would chose "Another Way In" personally. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks alot Spiv for your honest opinion and I appreciate your preference alot (that's what I wanted from reviewers anyway), it's only that I just can't figure out where in the world do you hear those artifacts?? I'm not saying you don't, but I don't hear any or just my ears don't serve me anymore, yet I'm almost sure there must be some other issue to cause that. Regarding bitrate...well, to be honest I decided for a bit lower bitrate cause I'm already running out of available space and furthermore I think that higher bit rate wouldn't make any audible difference since it's still just compressed mp3 and we would need an option to upload lossless wav files to achieve any noticeable difference. 99% of the people would agree that they don't hear any difference between lets say 192kbps and 320kbps, and most of them even wouldn't distinct mp3 from wav.
The second thing which makes me surprised is when you're saying you're not sure that these are even different takes?? Would be interesting to hear what exactly do you mean by that?
Anyways, regardless all enigmas, thank you so much for your valuable time for listening and your willingness to
write this comparative review....so much appreciated!:)
Strange style of trap here, with a very subdued tone and dynamics to the mix. It's creative, I will give it that. It's interesting that you mentioned reverb in your comment on my recent track, because I feel that these vocals are way too wet... like they are in a different room than the music. Maybe it is a trap thing? Interesting stereo field on the higher frequencies. Is there a kick drum in this? I have my sub turned all the way up, and I just couldn't hear it... possibly it was stereo enhanced instead of present equally in both sides, which I know is a trap thing. I found it interesting throughout though! Thanks for sharing!
lol the reverb here are meant to sound spacey as the tone, or setting, is going to be me blasting off into space. In my final version for the tape, it will be more obvious what's going on. And yes, there is a kick drum in this. It was intended to be a backup to the main beat but I ended up modeling the beat after it after being inspired by its rhythm. I'm not sure about the whole sub thing. I mastered it so that the bass isn't overwhelming and the vocals to sound crisp. I only called it trap because it's the closest genre I could think of. I'm an artist that doesn't follow labels and codes. Thanks for commenting!
Trance is definitely in the mind/ear of the beholder... I hear this as trip hop or something like that. I like that genre as well though, so I can definitely get into this. Unusual drum stretching going on here, which definitely goes to the psychedelic side. I'm hearing a good amount of clicking at some loop points, which I think take away from the enjoyment of the song. Don't know if they are in the loops themselves, or if it was how they were used though. That's really the only thing I hear which makes it stand out as "unfinished." The song is worth taking further!
I never really noticed the "clicks" until I saw your comment and now I can't stop hearing them to the point that it was driving me insane.
The good news is that I isolated the clicks to the bass synth sample and it was simply fixed with a parametric cutoff that ate anything other than the bass.
It is fixed now so I hope you can enjoy it, thanks for the pickup.
Jammin and jazzy stuff here! Pleasing to the ears, and unique for these modern times. The mixing seems quite appropriate for this style, and everything is audible. I'm not sure that my saturday mornings are like most people's, unless I start drinking very early, but I'm sure that in that case I could just put the song on repeat and love it. Very cool stuff!
It is always great to see your comments on one of my new tracks. I learned a lot from that one thread! So I am glad that you thought that it came back in the song, with it being audible and that the mixing is appropriate. Glad you liked it :)
OMG It's today... is it possible that I am in phase right now?! I started listening without looking, and though "ACID." There it was in the genre listening, so thank you for that! Such super trippy and engaging sound design here, with some old style flair! Intense and groovy stuff. Seems like just what I needed to hear right now, so I appreciate the share! I will definitely be faving and downloading this!
hello Spiv!
Glad you enjoyed this track! it's the same for me when i discovered one of yours in the same way (written in 2014). Curiously, i needed to go back in this style when i watched again the movie "trainspotting". I said "curiously" because in fact there's no link between trainspotting and acid music but can we always explain ours choices? lolll
Thanks for your positive comment which is really appreciate :)
Hey, this is a jamming tune! I'm digging the groove and the potency of the guitar recording. Sounds great both in recording and post processing. Ahhh that ride bell that comes in for moment is killer, very nineties rock to my ears... wooo. I was just thinking that this reminds me of what Guns and Roses might have been if they had not been pigeon holed into hard rock and pop genres. I find their early stuff to have kind of a psychedelic, janis joplin, sort of vibe. Either way, it's meant as a compliment. Very cool stuff. Have you looked into piezo transducers for a non-permanent way to use a guitar as acoustic-electric? I've been experimenting more with them used as contact mics, and even with some of the beaten up vintage transducers the fidelity is pretty impressive. I'm thinking about making acoustic pickup and contact microphone kits at some point, since I have all the parts I need now. It would be a fun project, and I would love to encourage more fine acoustic performances to be recorded. Your tune was inspiring and fun to hear!
I looked up what piezo transducers are and I still don't fucking know. :) Way over my head but I appreciate the input. I also appreciate the listen.
I need to go Acoustic more often. It really does help with learning the mixing process and how to mic instruments. I pretty much only use VST's at this point. I don't remember the last time I didn't use guitar Rig for my effects. It is nice to deal with "clean tones" for a change.
It's interesting, with your comment and viewing the profile, I assumed who you were, but I was wrong. Possibly just got confused, possibly it is since I haven't seen a song from you in a year or so. It's not a new name, is it? I apologize.
This song is really cool, with avant garde and worldly elements which appeal to me. I appreciate it being placed in classical instead of cinematic, as many others would. It fits right in there.
I am generally not a fan of choirs, but this is done so tastefully along with the atmospheric items, that it just works! Not the sort of music I hear very often, either recently or in the past. Very expertly crafted and dynamic. I could almost imagine you conducting a large group of practised musicians!
Expanding the file size of uploads here really has increased the range of compositions and quality on Looperman, and I love it! I stopped going to Soundcloud, and have not looked back. This song is a great example of why Looperman dominates!
For a first collaboration, this is mind blowing, and you should both be proud of it.
Okay, I just got to 6:48-7:00... I noticed some really big clipping which seemed to pop out of the speakers. That's the only point I have noticed that so far, so it may be a simple fix. Everything else sounds good, I would hate for it to change. :)
The electronic piano and cello duet was a really pleasant surprise, and is not a pairing I hear often. Both are instruments which I love. This later part of the song is something I would really like to see done in a live setting... so sweet.
Is the three minutes of silence an intentional addition? I though possibly it was a glitch in the site, since there has been work done on the coding lately.
Has to come and hear another one of yours this morning! I like the compositional ideas behind this one very much!
The simulated live drum feel is quite cool in the context, and adds a lot to the vibe and groove.
The bass performance is awesome. I guess I found myself hoping for more "beef" to the bass recording though. It sounded like it could be doubled and phase cancelling, or possibly it was a too deep EQ process. It sounded good, but kind of felt lost amongst the other elements.
Seems like the ideas present in this song could be fleshed out into an entire EP, since there are so many aspects, especially later in the song. Would be a fun and trippy disc to spin!
There was the sound of strong clipping in sections. Lowering some of the parts could help with the presence of the bass while healing the clipping. It's hard to say though.
I have to agree that this sounds very different from your usual work, and I felt this way after the first few bars. The vocal is a nice touch as well, but I find myself focusing on the music, which is of course massively better quality when compared to the vocal part. The vocals do have an old school vibe, partly due to the lower fidelity, which works in a jazzy sort of way. I would like to so the whole mix gently degraded with something such as tape saturation, tube dynamics processor, or even an old rack EQ - and then mixed back with vocals. I think it would bring it together with a nice old school vibe. Just a thought... music makes me do that sometimes, ha ha. I enjoyed the track a lot! Fave!
Hey Pat. Glad you had a chance to check this one out.
Yea - it was quite the departure for me. As far as vocal goes - there was some editing needed and working with a pre-recorded a capella is never ideal. Generally the reaction to her voice has been that it's sexy, nice.
I am looking for guitar or synth fills, then a new mixdown. What elements do you think would be needed for this to work in the club? I suppose we would ask the singer to record again against a track to get vocal up to par?
Any interest in taking this one the distance with me?
Relaxing tune, with some awesome synthetic interest! Nice representation of the various ranges as well. I am thinking of something as listening which might add to my enjoyment of this, which is a second bass for certain sections which would be less "fundamental." This one sounds very sine wave, or possibly heavily low pass filtered. Maybe it would add some sonic depth, I don't know. This had a very "down to earth" feel, which left me nicely calm. Now for some coffee... ha ha. Either way, very nice piece! Fave!
The bass is heavily low pass filtered :)
I do think that the fundamental bass is necessary for the future bass genre.
Even though I have put a lot of time in this song, it somehow felt rushed. I just wanted to be done with it and start a new project. As a fellow producer, I think you probably understand this feeling. I have put a lot of work in it, but it didn't feel finished, in a sense.
Some projects never do, I guess.
I have never considered adding a different, lighter, bass in the song. I do think it would influence the range of the song positively. I will look into it! Thanks for the advice.
Very engaging and entertaining song you've done here! I say this without any scorn or anything like that - You have come a long way in your work! Performance, mixing, arrangement, all of it has been sounding very focused to my ears. One of the best parts of looperman is watching artists continue to create and evolve.
Your cello work on this song speaks to me especially. I was kind of weaned on cello when I was young, and my favorite times were when I diverged from the classical and americana pieces they made us play... opting for more freeform and experimental playing. Many of your uses of the cello are not what one expects, and I respect that.
The synthesis added a good measure of psychedelic to the mix, and they sounded clear, with a sparkle to them.
Cool variety of rhythmic structures which compliment the "bass" work. Did not get dull throughout the song.
I like the length of this one, especially considering the style. All in all, a super cool track, with enough hints of jazz and hip hop to be very groovy. Fave!
Good to hear you enjoyed this one. I had it under 'hip hop' for the first few days but changed it to 'fusion' as I thought that maybe the first genre was putting some people off. I know people are shallow and probably won't listen to something if it's in a genre that doesn't usually appeal to them.
Have I come a long way musically? I don't know. Probably in some ways though most of my best tracks were made a while ago. This last year has been all about the cello and I've uploaded loads of tracks here based around what I have managed to do with it since starting playing a year ago. I've made about two albums with it in that time.
Yes, I did read you once saying that you played the cello for about 5 years.
"Many of your uses of the cello are not what one expects"
Well, I don't know how to play classical music and I certainly don't know any pieces. I just do whatever I can manage on it, which is much more of blues/rock//metal/funk guitarist's take on the instrument.
"The synthesis added a good measure of psychedelic to the mix"
Yes - quite trippy pads used here. After a coupe of minutes, I turn on the swirling distortion, filtering and delay, which I really like. Very psychedelic.
"Cool variety of rhythmic structures"
I guess it's really all the same groove for 4.5 mins and then it switches into something else much more like metal though still with some hip hop drums sitting underneath.
Around 2 mins, the drums move from hat to bells and ride cymbal to provide some variety and an upward, far out boost.
"enough hints of jazz and hip hop to be very groovy"
Yes, the foundation is hip hop but I'm not quite sure where the jazz is. Maybe it's in the cello basslines that are a bit like jazzy double bass playing.
Couldn't find a more recent track of yours, but this will do nicely! "Smooth" has been said, because it fits this track! Keeps the positive vibes rolling nicely! Cool instrument samples throughout, which give an old school flavor. Has a nice feel to the mix, with variety to the panning. All of the various octaves are well represented and balanced. Very good stuff! Fave!
You weren't kidding when you chose "fusion!" I'm digging the blues-hop vibe, with a taste of eighties reggae and new wave... or at least that's what I'm hearing, ha ha. I guess there are some major funky passages too, and that's cool. Very nice duet style on the vocals, with a good balance. Groovy old school vibes are to be heard here, and I've enjoyed it much! Thanks for sharing! Fave!
It was a rainy night here as well, and I can identify with the feelings you have incorporated into this piece. Partly due to the shortness of this work, it reminds me a bit of what one would hear as a ringtone. Although better, since I am not listening on a phone! Somewhat cheerful to my ears, and I enjoyed it!
There is nothing wrong with the sound design in this, and it's nice to hear a bit of new dubstep. The arrangement is cool and interesting for a lengthy track. One thing I noticed is the mix and mastering issues, which have led to severe clipping. Noticed it right away when there was little more than a sub bass going on. Reduce your entire mix gain at the faders of each mixer track, and it will probably drastically improve. This loudness can always be compensated for later in mastering. Either way, it's some cool work. I urge you to try the idea, I'd like to hear it then.
I find the remix interesting for sure! At the same time, I can't help but mention that it is a commonly accepted practice to name the original artist and song title in a remix such as this. It's up to you, and I understand the impulse.
I think the mixing sounds pretty cool so far, and the minimalism adds to this. There is a good dynamic range as it stands. As long as the headroom is used up and the dynamic range is somewhat intact, then it should sound great when you're done!
This reminds me a bit of Portugal The Man, or possibly The Shoes. I like both of those groups, especially when I'm partyin' so that's cool.
I can't think that it is anything beyond love which makes it so I can identify with your music so much. I still listen to it via ipod on a regular basis. I don't even need to know the names of the songs, since it is all in the feelings. You are one of those artists whom I can forgive technical inperfections for, since I can feel what you were feeling. If you ever want to release an album together, I would like that. Hope you are well! Fave!
Pretty damn cool for Dig-Hop! I like the modern feel the mix. Definitely reminds me a bit of Cypress Hill or something like that. Good stoney stuff, from the perspective of a casual listener. Great work!
Very exciting work here, and the composition is very beautiful! Various performances are quite well played, most obviously the guitar part. As some have mentioned, this all sounds very clear. All of it is very minimal, yet sonically deep and interesting.
I often merge two or more individual ideas, especially when they all stemmed from a similar moment, experience, or feeling. These two ideas of yours obviously had similar momentum behind them. In this way, they work great as a single concept.
I think this doubt and suspicion which has been mentioned is a big part of being an artist. It seems that there is always that moment where one must decide that something is "good enough" to be considered finished. There are of course those art projects which may never be finished, and the work outlasts the artist. I do know that to me your songs sound finished, with their own individual sheen.
Truly exceptional work you've done on this song. Fave!
Hola Spiv, always a pleasure to hear from you and thank you so much for your positive feedback! It seems I worried too much about this piece since it's getting quite decent recognition...but it's exactly as you say...all those doubts and suspicions are a part of being an artist. I'm so glad you liked this one and many thanks for faving it...
..always means alot!:)
Very interesting song, and description. I'm enjoying pondering while listening!
I am firm believer in energy and matter as the composition of all that we know. I also believe that neither of these are created nor destroyed, they only change form. Life and death are a somewhat superficial demonstration of this, to me. They are simply different states of energy and matter.
Reincarnation, and related ideas, are often taken very literally. I feel that it is more a state of being what one was not before. The energy and matter that I am made up of could possibly become part of numerous states of matter and energy simultaneously, after this life form ends. Some of it may be absorbed into trees, eaten by animals, blown in the wind as part of the atmosphere... well you get the idea. Or, possibly, the energy and matter could be (unbelievably) transformed into another single life form. So really, to me, life and death are one and the same.
I have been wondering lately, after so many amazing people's lives have ended... Is it possibly for one's matter and energy to be absorbed by those who are already in a form of life? Obviously, we could be buried, and tree's roots would absorb matter and energy. Without consuming the entirety of the dead, could we essentially "become" the dead?
Hello spiv,
How you doing mate,
Thank you very much for your feedback and the enlightening thoughts.
I find it very interesting and I do share your thought about the subject.
Is there life after death? This key question has intrigued humankind from the dawn of history
When faced with the potential of imminent death, most people suddenly find that life takes on a whole new perspective. Suddenly all of the belongings they might have accumulated seem quite meaningless, while the relationships formed and love shared take on great significance.
Some have had the rare opportunity to pass through the portal of death and return, only to find their understanding of life radically transformed. A recently developed field of study for these near-death experiences (NDEs) has blossomed and provided us with inspiring, true stories of of those who have experienced life after death and come back.
A number of doctors and scientists have even dedicated themselves to finding and studying these life after death stories – the experiences of those who were actually declared clinically dead, yet somehow came back to life.
Even though this isn't something that really talked about daily it is provoke those thoughts out of us humans. ..
I've lost a lot of people in the last years and almost thought I was going to lose someone yesterday. I've come close to death many times myself...
I wasn’t unease or uncomfortable about it I just came to accept it as a fact or a journey if you like.
dark mysterious and the unknown this is all just a coping mechanism. Life After Death misunderstood or misinterpreted
it's really the music that brings it out of us.
May these life after death stories touch your heart and inspire you to live your life more fully in each precious moment.
I tend to spend the first minute or two, atleast, in reading previous comments and replies... while doing so, I began to wonder about the "casio tune" reference. Possibly there is something which I am missing, but I do not hear a Casio board in this,
Back to the topic at hand though... I do entirely enjoy the song, and it's composition! It is really not something I usually would put in the electro bin, which is a good thing. This is far deeper and more creative than the usual copycat pop electro, which even I have have fallen prey to. I would instantly think "electronic," which is also good, since I love all things electronic. It's one of the few ways which I fail in regards to environmentalism, unless you count the salvage and repurpose aspect, which is probably not even legal... ha ha.
I'm listening again, because there is simply something about your tunes which get to me. This one sounds pretty original to me, and the sounds are not ones which I hear all of the time. The slow modulations give this track a real edge. Seems like a lot of people ignore that sort of thing when working in a digital workstation environment.
I've been noticing about lots of songs lately, the ones which seem longer than they actually are. I think I used to think of this as a bad thing, however I'm starting to think that it is a virtue. This song has that effect at this moment, and in a purely good way.
To address the 'casio tune': I thought, with a little imagination, that 0:30 and onward could kind of sound like a keyboard with distortion! I didn't use it though, but I like people imagining stuff with my music :) To create the sound I used Harmor, with distortion. But you are completely right, I haven't used a Casio keyboard! I might have left the impression that I did use it though.
Let me just start with: man, you know your stuff. I have been listening to a few of your songs on this site and I think that your skill level is way higher than mine. So the fact that you like my music and the details that I try to put in them, is amazing. I have been researching genres and microgenres, but the things that I make never quite fit a box. Which is a good thing. So I agree with the fact that it isn't the usual electro! And in music, you can indulge, right ;). You don't need to be environmental all the time hahahaha.
And I am glad my story gets to you :). Thanks for all the compliments and for the amazing fave!

I like your work so far!

Fave!
..always means alot!:)

on Come And Find Me After Death by DijamMusic
Oh well... I enjoyed the song. Have a good day!
Thanks Again.

I like it much! Fave!
