Here I am, after a little bit of time... I know, I'm sorry about that! This is a very groovy piece! I'm digging the organ parts very much. The composition and mix are both on point. I guess the only drawback of this song is when compared to how great it would be with real instruments. This is especially evident in the guitar, due to the lack of realism in the envelope and stuff. It is something which I am getting used to over time though, as it shows up in many songs. The only part which struck me on the organ part was the drastic pitch bend... something which is not present on vintage organs. It did however sound cool, and I realize that not everyone gives a crap about tech from 50-60 years ago! Thank you for sharing the song with me! Fave!
Thanks for listening! As I said, it is an older piece that I made, so it isn't as advanced and refined as it could be. I have a guitar at home, but I broke my mic to record, which is a real damn shame. It has quite a lot of white noise now, which also gets picked up if I try to use Vocodex in Flstudio. You were so positive about 9 AM streets that I wanted to share more of my work. But this work has also showed me that the Looperman community also consists of good critics! Glad you enjoyed it :)
I listened through before beginning my comment, and Your words and delivery got me high by the end. This is, as far as rap goes, about as good as it gets! Definitely the kind of rap I chose to listen to, and purchase. Extremely effective and potent. Fine schtuff! Thank you for the DL! Fave!
thanks dude! I knew that when i was done with and ready to UL to Looperman that you would be one of the people to 'get it' and enjoy it for the diversity.
i have a few more that i will be adding this weekend and the coming days with a similar feel. i lookforward to getting your feedback!
This is a pretty cool piece, especially for the pop style! Has a radio friendly vibe for sure.
I found myself wondering how many layers of guitar were in this... especially in the later sections. It seemed like the presence of the rhythm guitars were shifting within the stereo field... it made me think that there were several "takes" used and panned separately. So when one had a louder peak, the guitar would sound like it was coming from a different spot. While the layering gave a decent effect, I always find this sort of thing a bit unrealistic, unless of course you are trying to give the impression of a band with several guitarists. It's just something which stood out.
I could see the bass being a more pop-rock presence if it were raised an octave, at least in some parts. It seemed very "subby," yet with some saturation to bring it into a more audible spectrum. I think that in many pop/rock stuff, this is not the preferred bass tone. A synthetic bass sound can generally produce sounds which are a good bit lower than an electric or acoustic bass. Just a thought... I actually liked the bass tone, it just seemed unusual in the setting.
I'd be interested to hear your take on vocals for this song, as you always take a song up a notch when you sing to it. All in all, though, it was a good listen!
Hey Spiv! I agree on the bass tone. It is unusual. In other circumstances it would fit better but in this case it does stand out a little. The main thing was that I didnt have a real bass to record with or I would've gone that route instead.
There are two layers of acoustics that you're hearing - each layer is double-recorded and panned accordingly. One layer is playing the basic rhythm and the other is playing the higher notes. I don't know, I just like the sound of acoustics. I used to be tighter in my playing, I need to get back at it :)
I was entirely surprised to come across a track tagged "ValveDriver" today! It's a pleasant feeling!
I would definitely think industrial when hearing this, though I agree with the dubstep and DnB references. I was interested regarding your reply "It's not the typical industrial BPM, but it dies fit." I've never thought of industrial as having a typical tempo. Did you think that this was too slow, or too fast for typical industrial? Possibly it is the metalhead difference, since those who dig metal the most seem to listen to a different sort of industrial compared to those who are not metalheads. I listen to a good amount of pure industrial which is quite a bit slower than this, and also some which is much faster... so it's hard to judge what's up,
Either way I liked the idea for the song. Some cool riff based passages, and noisy industrial drums. I did find the mixing to be very mono-tone... Like all of the instruments were fighting for the same octave. Possibly this was due to after the fact processing though, I don't know.
Was very fun to hear some new work from you, and I hope to hear more!
Thanks for taking the time to comment. It's always a pleasure to hear from you.
" Did you think that this was too slow, or too fast for typical industrial?"
I thought it was too fast. If I remember correctly, most industrial is usually about 120-130 bpm. This is running at 140. So, it's not a lot faster, but faster than typical.
You make a good point about meatalheads and their preferences towards industrial. I know I tend to lean more towards the Ministry, Skinny Puppy, KMFDM, side. usually that with more guitars than synths.
You also made a very good point about everything fighting for the same octave. I was going for heavy and relentless, but after going back, it could definitely use a little more in the higher range.
"...and I hope to hear more."
There is definitely more in store. I've been on a block for about a year. I've started a lot of tracks, but got nowhere with them. But it seems as if the block is, at the very least, temporarily lifted.
This song is interesting, primarily because of the abrupt changes between sections. I realize that this is part of working with loops, and I can't fault it at all. Regardless, the song seems to flow well, and everything fits together. That theremin sounding lead synth around the 2 minute mark sounds really good in this context! It's no surprise that this song received so many plays, since it just sounds good and comforting. A bit sad in spots, but hopeful in feeling. I like it a lot!
Thank you! And sorry for the late reply...
Yeah, i think this is one of my luckiest one ever... Wonder if i can made another one like this ever. :)
Dunno if i made another one with similarly strong atmosphere.
Regards, traz
Very interesting style! I wouldn't normally listen to something which invokes the lord's prayer, but I couldn't help but hear something with a loop of mine. I think it fits in pretty well with the other loops you've used. Trap is an unusual genre for sure, and it's getting hard to tell apart from any other popular electronic stuff. You've done well on this one!
This is quite a cool song! I'm assuming these are your vocals, and they sound really good! It's nice to hear some people writing real songs. Seems like you used the loops really well to create a backdrop for your lyrics! I've enjoyed listening. Thanks for sharing!
Very chill and groovy piece you've done here! The guitar parts really add a lot of interest to the song, and keep it moving. Seems like fine mixing for using such a variety of loop sources, I know that can be hard to do! Very fun to hear!
My first impression from listening to this... I have never heard a style quite like it. I started listening without reading the genre, but only the description, so I was expecting progressive trance. Turns out that it is dubstep, so things make more sense now! The mix is very unusual to my ears, but I think it is more the sound of trying to juggle so many different styles of loops... and I know how difficult that can be! I do not listen to dubstep nearly as often as I used to, but this one deserves further listening on my headphones. Thank you for the DL! Have a good day!
Thank you. I also wrote in this style for the first time. so pleased dupstepa loop that could not help it. I only write a trance. Right now I work with a new trance track. I will soon give. there will your loop.
Very amazing song! I can't believe that there have been no comments on this. I'm happy that I broke down and did a keyword search of my own name, because I've found some gems today! Super chill song, and pleasing at this difficult moment. Thank you for sharing this one. I hope that you are well! Thank you for the download! Fave!
Dang, this was a cool one! Listened to it while I finished the dishes, and it worked well for getting things done. I liked the acid stylings in the early part very much! After that, things seem to go a bit more on the rock side, yet it stayed in a cohesive state... all in all, the song works great! Cool to hear some of those older loops getting used! Sorry it took a while to find this piece! Have a good day!
Funny, just searched my name as keyword, as I tend to do sometimes... and I found this! I think you did pretty well, especially as far as mixing goes. So many of the riffs (and there were a lot of them) were very familiar sounding... so I don't know if I just have the same pack as you or what. It was like much of it was sampled from other dubstep tracks I've heard, but I doubt that is what was done. It's good stuff! Keep at it!
I've been concerned about you, and felt inclined to hear one of your excellent songs today. It's been a hard couple of days, and I know that your music always gives me good feelings. I hope that you are okay my friend. Thank you for your music!
Thank you for the review but more so massive thank you for your concern, yes as mentioned in email, things haven't been the best but slowly hopefully getting back to where things should be...Peace n much respect to you my friend...mosaic...
It seems apparent while listening that you are also a morning person, and I am happy to hear that in your music! I am really enjoying this audio journey! Pleasing and playful! When you replied - "I like convincing people and composing music is just a different way of convincing people." - You essentially spoke my mind for me. This is how I feel a lot of the time. Often, music and art seem to be the only legal methods of "convincing people." I am slightly envious of your position in The Netherlands, and I wish I could be there, if only for a short time. I fear that this life we know is fleeting, and I am craving experiences of new kinds. You have made an awesome song here, which speaks to me... and I thank you for the DL! Fave!
As you have already noticed, I am a new member of this community. Before I had no plays on for example Soundcloud. People actually listening to the music is amazing, so thank you for listening :)
I also know that feeling, that craving for new experiences. The only way to satisfy that feeling is to actually do something new. For me, that was composing music. But talking to people about their experiences also helps, because in a way you experience the world vicariously. I have another song in this style that I already made. I will be uploading that as well. Normally, I make EDM. So I don't know if there will be a follow up in this style. Thanks for sharing your story, I'm glad I convinced you with my music ;)
I was pleasantly surprised by this instrumental! First thing which struck me was the dynamic range, which actually sound excellent compared to most hip hop instrumentals I've heard lately. There is seemingly some sort of vinyl spinning effect on the master, I'm assuming virtual, unless you took the route that I used too... sampling silence from a record and looping it. Who knows?! Either way, I am enjoying this, and I hope some of the cool rappers around here end up packing it up, and sparking it. Fave, thanks for the DL!
To me as well this sound familiar, yet I'm sure it simply that CBG tone, which seems hard to avoid. I'm enjoying this sort of spoken word, which remind me of many classic psychedelic rock groups of yore. I surely understand the pitfalls of recording guitar such as this, and I think as it stand, you have done great work! I've actually been playing guitar again lately, after finding a Pod 2.0 for ten dollars a couple days ago. Spent this morning, between 5 AM and sunrise, practicing with my Hohner six string in the indo room. It seemed to transform my soldering iron burns into callouses very quickly. I think it helped the plants too. Had to kick the cat out of the room, though, since she like to chew on wires when I'm paying attention. Can't believe that she's not kitty flambe at this point. Listing to this again... it's quite groovy in a blues form. I think blues is something which I'll have to get past my obsessiveness to appreciate or perform fully. You obviously are past that. I appreciate that. Thank you for the inpiration. Fave!
I absolutely love that lo fi cbg tone! Just built a 3 string fretless olive oil can guitar today out of all found materials except the strings and tuners. Really loud acoustically, tuned open D, D A D, for a different tone then the usual open G, GDG. This is played on my 3 string fretted cookie tin guitar made with a 64 oz. Danish butter cookies tin, oak neck. Originally was for the school but I like it too much so I ordered more fretwire to make them another, the music teacher just laughed and said that's cool, the kids will love it when you bring it in. Also ran into the maintenance director of the high school when I came out of our little hut/workshop at the dump with my newest build, he got really happy saying he'd just taken up guitar. Good, you'll get one too for the high school :p I play through guitar rig 5 on my computer, that's a damn good price for a pod 2!! Jealous. Addicted to these 3 stringers! I want to make an electric diddley bow to jam on too. I have one with a piezo but magnetic pickups sound so much cleaner. Cat's can't seem to control themselves around cords, I'm constantly chasing them away. Remember National lampoons Christmas when the cat bit the christmas lights cord hahahahaha! Studies have shown plants like music, helps them grow. I got a Behringer 6 string I'm thinking I'll modify for slide since I have others for regular playing, higher action makes it easier for slide playing. Guitar can be such an expressive instrument! Thanks Spiv, lots more to come.
I have no idea what "SAW" is referring to in your description or the comments, care to elaborate? I've listened to eighties music pretty obsessively, both pop and underground, but still can not find a reference. It also appears to be one of things things which is "un-googleable," since I keep getting results about band saws. This is a cool work though, so far, and it reminds me a bit of Gary Numan/Tubeway Army stuff. Possibly it is a bit much on the vocal reverb, but that is also a personal preference. I like the synth emulations you've chosen as well. Looking forward to hearing the finished work! Keep at it!
Hi, Spivkurl. I didn't know what SAW was either until a few days ago when Crucethus mentioned it in the forum. I figured it out. It is short for: Stock Aitken Waterman the songwriting/producing team behind Rick Ashley and probably a lot of others.
I do think I should tone down the reverb a bit. Better still, get a decent vocalist do I don't have to disguise things with massive amounts of effects. The vocal track has EQ, compression, ADT vocal doubling, and reverb on it. I recorded probably a minimum of 6 takes for each section of the song and then learned how to comp the vocals in Logic Pro. Didn't have to use autotune this time, which is good because I'm not very proficient with it.
I'm not familiar at all with Tubeway Army. I will check that out immediately.
Even before the vocals began, I started thinking of more recent Depeche Mode works. Then as your vocal work began, the feeling just got deeper! They are one of my all time favorites, so this is comforting to me. The bass styling also brings to mind New Order or Joy Division, but not exactly Peter Hook... since New Order has proven that they can do it without him. I'm not in the state to pay deep attention, thank Jah, but still I could feel the conveyance of the piece, and I love it! Big Fave!
I love Depeche Mode as well. I've been listening to there album Delta Machine a lot recently, so I wouldn't be surprised if that worked it's way into my sound.
Glad you like that track. And thanks for your feedback.
Super jammin track you've done here! I dig it! Seems like you put a lot of effort and energy into the recordings. I also like the title of the album "Newstalgia," as it makes perfect sense in regards to recent time and music. Sounds like you have a hit here! I wish you the best of luck with the new releases! Thanks for the DL! Fave!
This is a very interesting soundscape! Whenever ambulances are mentioned, I cannot help but think of the film "Bringing Out The Dead," which is a good thing since the other option would be remembering what may have happened to me in an ambulance so many years ago. I really dig that movie... the cast was perfectly chosen, and performed well on so many levels. This reminds me of older style "audio collage" sort of things, which one might hear from Klaus Flouride, or Iris-T-Shirt (shameless, I know). I enjoyed the flow, and the unreal arrangement. Cool!
This seems to have such a gentle nature, one which I would be well advised to hear and enjoy more often... and to practice myself. I think the mix is quite good, and sounds almost authentic to certain eras of jazz. Deeply engaging throughout! I like how the vocals forced me to listen more closely, while reaching for constructed meaning. Very psychedelic stereo field in certain parts of this track, which make my mind wander in a good way. I would love it if I could be dedicated enough to a single instrument to be able to play keyboards as you can. You seem to be able to communicate the feeling and emotion straight through your fingers... No small feat! Seriously cool track! It has been fun trying to dig through your playlist to find those which I have not experienced yet. Faved! Have a good day!
This piece of music is based entirely on an ascending repetitive bassline motif (notes: A-Bb-C). I really like all 'binatural' yet apparently weird sound qualities and experiences too - I simply keep things as much interesting as possible here (when by choosing the textures of music or colors and placing it in the space of natural-binatural perception of the recording). I much appreciate your nice comments. thank you so much!
In a week I will be participating in a public concert (as a performer this time lol) - I only need to recover my hands now to be able to play at least 'correctly' then so I will definitely experience a little refreshing time from my usual work hard activities at least over throughout next week. I will contact you as soon as I can! I was somehow busy with documenting all the organ instruments and learning new repertoire for example: https://soundcloud.com/user-882866857/sets/siedlce-ko-ci-garnizonowy https://soundcloud.com/user-882866857/sets/warszawa-bazylika-w-krzy-a-c
Thank you for making my track on of your favourites. Have a good day too! Alex
I am totally loving the synth jams in here, both when taken individually, and as a collected work! Is that a real guitar in there, or sample based, or emulation? Sounds pretty cool in this context. This has a lot of cinematic potential to my ears. Also it gives me some remembrance of Kate Bush (minus the vocals), or some other such awesome 70s through 90s type of artist. Quite relaxing, and also with some valuable tension. Dig it! Fave!
This song has already enhanced my day considerably! I can't believe that I haven't heard it yet (a rare thing on your profile)! This is relaxing, as well as engaging to my mind. You seem to have chosen the perfect elements to complete a "vibe." Very much modern jazzy in feel, possibly acid jazz, yeah. All in all deeply fun to hear! I think the mix sounds pretty nice in these headphones. Cool! Have a good day!
Thank you so much! I am really feel connected with this particular creation now as it was made when facing difficult circumstances I faced the very moment this track was actually was made, if that makes any sense. Will try to make proper responses in few days as I am more into a 'real world' now - hope you understand. 'Acid jazz' is a term I really like - also I was exposed to this kind of music a lot (might be the very reason for such musical preferences of mine). I am glad you enjoyed all seemingly acid and musical qualities. Alex
You apparently have some rapping skills, if this is your vocal work... you don't specify. However, you need to work hard on mixing. To listen to this at a normal volume would pretty much sound like white noise or DC voltage hitting the speakers. In other words, it's to freaking loud, and sounds rubbish at a normal volume. I'm listening in headphones, at about 15% volume, and still parts of it are way too loud. Please don't encourage this sort of mixing and mastering, and if it is unintentional, then you may want to get a hearing test.
Very cool song you've done here! I know how you are feeling, or so it seems. I start to wonder if we could change everything by avoiding the lies we tell ourselves. I'd like to see a world where the citizens simply do what they know is right, without concern for political, religious, or social borders. Probably never happen. Very pleasing tune here! Groovy and fun! Fave!
Thanks, Spivkurl. Yeah, unfortunately, we're drowning in a sea of lies from officialdom. Makes me sick. This is how I deal - turning rage into music. Ugliness into beauty (such is the desire). Bullshit into truth. So glad you enjoyed this one. Thanks for your comment!
