I am with Metabolic on the breaks, especially the flute could be a tiny bit longer but I love this. Pure madness. Great work, if this is what you wrote then I hope you'll a lot more crazy days like these :)
Right on Tee Gee. Looks like the verdict is in on the spots in need of some tweaks. Sometimes crazy days work out, I suppose. This whole thing is became a bit of a surprise.
Amazing wide sound, the phasing/panning effect is cool and not over the top (I using it often on guitar solos). Love the woman whispering, and all those little sounds that come in and out, great work! I love the production, it is so crisp and clean. Ending somewhat sudden though.
Thank you for your encouraging comments.
I know what you mean about the ending. I normally put a little effort into thje endings but don't seem to have done so this time.
Hey man, nice work you did. There are a few issues, but the others have already said everything there is to critique. The only thing is the Autotune - stay away from it, that's my opinion. You got a nice voice, let it out!
I like this track, sounds like a good production. The ending is a bit sudden, but nice overall. I prefer more old school style, but I think there are a ton of people who will LOVE this!
Hey cool song, love the Indian thing. Always nice to hear something that is not "normal" or standard. Very clean sound you got, nice production. Enjoyed this one :)
I tell you the truth, this sort of track blows my mind production wise, I would not even know how to start something like that. Love the computer game feel of it.
It is not the type of music that I would listen to, but I got to admire the work you did here!
Not the sort of music which most people probably enjoy, but art is not often made with anyone aside from the artist in mind. There are elements in this which were specifically directed towards any mind which has a small opening in it. I will never know the effect that has, I'm sure. In general, it would be hard for someone else to fully duplicate a song such as this, since they would not have access to the one of a kind instruments I have made. That is as it should be... I don't need a bunch of Spivkurl cover bands hanging around after I die... ha ha. Thank you for listening and leaving your words!
Hey MP, I am on my lunchbreak and thought I'd use the time to listen to some songs...
It is a bit hard to tell with the little speaker if it needs different mixing, but from what I hear it sounds good. I love the feeling of the song, and you sing in a very interesting way.
Regarding the genre, for me it is a pop ballad, and a beautiful one.
I would be interested in working with you and my band on a song (Drums, bass, Guitar), if you ever feel like doing something then PM me.
Pop ballad, that's interesting, I never quite thought of it like that.
And I'm definitely interested in doing collabs with people, but the issue I have is that I'm totally inexperienced and have only been 'singing in anger' for the past 7-8 months, so I'm going to have to wait and see if my voice and style develops over the coming months - but like I say, I'm definitely interested.
Thanks for stopping by to listen and comment as well, much appreciated :)
I love dancehall!! I used to "scare" my fellow workers listening to Shabba Ranks, Buju, Beanie and all the rest. I was waiting for a deep voice singing some cool Patois words, that would have been really nice for your song. But well done, you made me smile with this :)
Thanks Teegee.
Funny you said you used to"scare" your colleagues at work, because i also listen to music at work and im pretty sure that some of my musical choices must put them off as well.
I have someone in mind to lay some vocals so lets wait and see.
Glad it made you smile.
Thank you for taking the time.
Fantastic! Just like Silverman wrote, there are parts in your singing that take us back to the psychedelic hippy music of the late 60ies, I don't know if it was intentionally or not, but I love it. And then the drums come in modern and give a contrast. Nice done from both of you!
Wow just wow, this is an epic piece of music. I REALLY like the fact that most of it is made by your fingers and not by clicking a mouse. It is something I try to do as well, and I always happy to hear that others doing so too. Nothing against adding the odd electronioc stuff, or loop, but the majority should be "real". I read what the others wrote, it would be useless to more or less repeat what they wrote. In my opinion this is a very good song, and if it were mine I would be very proud of it.
I love the fact that you mix a real guitar with those electronics, to some extend I am trying to make hiphop-ish tracks using real instruments too. So keep at it, and the more real instruments the better!
Our pet rabbit, who is the animal king is called Bliss, so I had to listen to this song. I love that you used real drums on this, sounds wicked! Me and my band are doing the same, hiphop using real instruments. For me, the only thing missing is guitar but I add guitar to everything. Even to food ;)
Hey Silverman
I love reggae, and it's a pity you did not sing on it...but great use of those loops. A little bit of singing, maybe even a hook...? A reggae song without mentioning of Babylon is somehow incomplete ;)
BABYLON YOUR QUEENDOM IS FALLING!!!!!
I know what you mean.
It was going to be a fun song about the nischief of drug taking.
It's like a rap and I wrote it in 1980. It's very popular with my kids who are now in their thirties and forties!
Thanksfor your time TEE.
By the way when you here my voice you might not think it such a good idea .... here's an example track three .... https://www.reverbnation.com/control_room/artist/392159/songs
Wow this is a fantastic peace of music, like the oriental flavour. I like how it mixes blues and bluegrass and fusion and whatnot. I also try to mix some styles, but nowhere as smooth as this. Very fine guitar playing, too.Well done!!
Hey TeeGee, thanks for stopping by mate! glad you found the track interesting, sometimes I think I should just stick to one genre per track but I love tangential thinking! lol...cheers mate all the best Dave :)
Sorry about your dad, must be hard. But as you said, life goes on, and making music is surely a good healer. About the track, you know trance is not really a genre I am familiar with, so I can't give good feedback. But the production is great, sounds nice and clean, and it is not boring, some nice changes all along to keep it interesting.
Yes! I think your description of "hardcore psychedelic electro-ska" is spot on. It is definitely ska - or at least a development of it. Or maybe a mutation? Do you live near a nuclear reactor? I love this song, crazy!!!
Ha ha, I've been waiting for this to come up in the line of comments to reply to, mainly because of your question of the nuclear reactor. There is, in fact, a nuclear power plant in our nearby area... however, I think far more impact on my development as a human and a musician was influenced by the radiation I was exposed to as a child. When I was young, I spent many years in Alaska. Not only was the Chernobyl incident a fairly recent occurrence (Russia is 51 miles from Alaska at the Bering Straight, which used to be a land bridge), but my father used to bring me to an abandoned military facility for recreation (which was apparently used during the "cold war"). I would dig through the torn apart remains of their electronic equipment, and my childhood mind was in love with the place. Not too many years ago, my father, who still lives in Alaska, informed me that the area had been designated as a Federal superfund site. This was apparently done because of high radiation levels present on the site. Regardless of the fact, it still remains one of my fondest memories of childhood, and a place that I would like to return to some day. My mutations seem to be mostly psychocellular in form, and I doubt that this is the only cause. I have also had an array of dangerous head injuries throughout my entire life. More recently, both consensual and forced chemical exposure have deepened the impact. Strange things are afoot in the world called Earth. Thank you for listening and reacting!
wow!! The vocals blew me away. How did you get this sound? I would love to hear about that. But also the singing style, never heard anything like it. I guess now you got to finish it off around the vocals. Man!!
How did I get that sound? Probably a mixture of cheap equipment and terrible acoustics in my room :)
If it means anything at all, I used Izotope Nectar 2 for the voice effects, and specifically the 'Airy Lead' preset with a touch of harmony.
Lol dude i like it, made me smile, love the Willie Wonka bit. I am probably not the best one to provide feedback on pure rap songs, but I think it has good potential, look forward to hear how you develop it further.
I followed the link from our other discussion, and I am glad I did, as I like this track a LOT. Actually I prefer this one, it may have less variation of styles, but I just like it. Listened to it a few times yesterday and today, really cool sounds you got out of the Cello. I won't go into too many details as it seems I tend to annoy you so better to leave it at a positive note. Well done :)
Thanks for checking this out and sorry for the slow reply.
" it seems I tend to annoy you"
No, not really. It was just that one comment on my other cello-heavy (and heavy cello) track in which you asked for some "real cello". The track was full of real cello playing so it looked you had somehow mistaken all the cello sounds for cello samples I'd triggered from the keyboard rather than stuff I'd taken a while to play and edit. A bit like telling Jimi Hendrix one of his tracks needs some "real guitar".
Yes, this track has a very different feel from the other and there are more obvious cello sounds, which I assume is what you were looking for from the other track. No distorted cello riffage here though there is quite a bit of reverb and delay on the many cello parts I recorded. I think this one has quite a classy, graceful chillout feel and I loved listening back to some of the sections on a loop while making it.
Regarding the points you mentioned below, I guess I did not express myself correctly. I was aware that this is a real Cello played by you, and that you manipulated the sound electronically or with effects (as we do with guitars etc). What I MEANT was that it would have been nice to have a clean acoustic cello sound in there - but that was just a suggestion, and does not mean the song is incomplete with out it. So my bad.
"Maybe would have been nice to have some sort of real Cello in there somewhere"
All the cello is real!
It really is all real, electric cello really played by me. For real.
I go to some trouble to include as much useful info as I can in my track descriptions so people have some understanding of what they're hearing and how it was made. It annoys me how many people on this site put up almost no info so you have to ask things like "Hey, is this all samples?", "Are you playing the guitar here?", "Whose vocals are these?" and so on.
Yes, I only briefly referred to me playing the cello in my track description but if you go down and read some of my replies, I talk about it quite a bit.
Perhaps I've confused you because I accept that the cello does sound unusual here. I would never guess that all that heavy, distorted riffage is cello. Perhaps you're just asking for some more obvious, traditional bowed cello sounds. You can hear some of those sitting underneath the distorted Rhodes as things get funky just before it goes heavy again for the third and final movement. The bowed cello there just has reverb on it so there's no processing to fool you.
You seem to be basically saying the same thing again. And I think I understood it the first time.
So I'll have to say the same thing again: there is pretty much a clean acoustic cello sound in there. Well, technically it's an electric cello as that's all I have. And it does have some reverb and chorus on it but that's just to fit my far out vibe. Listen at 4:23 and you'll hear it come in underneath the distorted Rhodes.
Sorry if that's not what you wanted. I'm doing my best though I still real struggle with the bowing.
Damn I like your vocals, like good old classic 70ies hard rock singers. Very nice track, its so nice you got your daughter working with you on a song, you must be proud. Regarding the mixing, yes there are a few issues, but it's not that bad that it would warrant really negative comments. Maybe needs a little fine tuning, eh? Well done all the musicians on this track!!
Wow very unique vocal style you got there. The precious comments said it all regarding the volume, may I ad that such a song would probably benefit from being a little longer. But well done!
"Humour and/or interesting and intelligent analysis appreciated..." So I am not going to tell a musical joke this time :D (and yes I knew even then it was not what you meant by it - but that is humour, isn't it? )
Regarding the song, I find it fantastic what you did with the cello. Really interesting. I like the transformation from a heavy metal style first part, to the second part that is some sort of progrock, and it gets more and more chill and electronic as it goes along. Smooth transition between the styles, does not seemed forced. Really nice. Did you plan this to begin with or did it happen naturally?
Maybe would have been nice to have some sort of real Cello in there somewhere - but but but there are always so many options and ifs and buts for any music piece...
So, well done, I like it - a really interesting song!
That is excellent to hear, however this is much more of a problem:

"the second part that is some sort of progrock"
Yes - I hadn't really considered that but I agree. The introduction of Fender Rhodes and strings (sample-based violins) merges nicely with the distorted riffage and is quite progressive.
"Did you plan this to begin with or did it happen naturally?"
I do not plan any of my tracks out, which is one of my great musical weaknesses though I also turn it into a strength. I have no real idea where something is going and am not able to really work out what the structure is going to be before starting. I just keep jamming and editing those jams and adding synths and moving whole sections around as I try to make something unusual and interesting (at least to me). When I'm successful, I get things that are quite different from other people's music as well as strange relationships between instruments and odd mergers of genres.
"Smooth transition between the styles"
That's great to hear as I have to work really hard at that. The track structure is often dictated by how smooth I can get the transitions. If I can't get a smooth transition, I have to go for a different structure.
If you'd like to hear a recent track with much more obvious real cello sounds, try this one. No distorted riffage but loads of layers of cello, employing various playing techniques:
Very catchy tune, love the singer. Great voice. I think overall a very successful project. I probably would have added more real guitars to it, but then I would add guitar to a peanut butter sandwich if I could :)
Nice one!
Thank you for stopping by and reviewing this one, very pleased you enjoyed it, guessing if knew how to play guitar might have added more too, but whats there seems to do the job...Peace respect mosaic...

Yes, everything being played is how it should be. Granted, I did not keep any first takes. The riffs don't automatically come out without screw-ups.
