Seems a while since i wrote this one. I was working in the woods as a lumberjack last summer. There were many hornets nests about to beware of as i felled trees... this track was written during that time hence the name and vibe... I like it but will not be revisiting it... I wouldn't know where to start with bettering it, it's gonna be a great dj weapon when I start mp3 mixing in a few months... thanks for listening and downloading. sn76

on techno metal intro by projectjehobith
Static X... but better....
wow...
dude...
You
ARE
ON
TO
SOMETHING.

I have tried alot to mix the ideals of techno and metal together.. and it's been ... a finicky process..
I know not to muck when it's not needed.

Mastering of course is no where near in your mind in this...
so
I just hear that build..
are you going to mix this with some live sampled drums?
or..
is it a segue like intro/outro thing?
or ...
I dunno man

Musically.. I hear the gates opening and the wrath being let loose...
kinda bummed it didn't happen lol
lemme know when you update!
projectjehobith
projectjehobith replied Unknown
sorry the gates didnt open for ya on this one...but when they do..all hell is going to break loose this i promise. Forget static-x, I love em, theyre a major influence on me yes but with this track i want to put them to shame. haha yes the gates of hell sounds a bit corny..the gates of endless possibilities i will try to open instead. I am going to take some more techno drum loops and mix them with some metal drum loops when it kicks in with some doubled up stagato guitar riffs add some synths lines to accomindate those guitar riffs. purposely going to make it chopy with but with an appropriate flow thats easy to listen to. "listen to static-x song "estego undead" think its spelled right you will get a commparison of what I have in mind. I want this to be a finished product that when someone listens to it whether like this kind of music or not they will either hate it or love it..either way they feel i know they will appreciate it..anyways I could typed less and told you with one word what im going to do

im going to create "Madness"

Kinda glitchy dnb thing happening!

Man, you are a beast!
Just need to sharpen your teeth and you will be UNSTOPPABLE.

I love this.. it's like.. the fray when your brain is on the brink.

Nice.
It's like a lullaby.

More balance with the vocals and drums and music are in my mind.. it's sooo ARGHHH! lol
I dunno...
You obviously know what you are doing musically, but I just think you could benefit from some more balanced mixing frequency wise...
But then again....
It's awesome

Yeah!
Again, reiterating the other points... if you aren't noticing clipping...
I am going to download and take a peak...
I am thinking it's a mixing thing....

Yeah,, this isn't clipping at all...
I was gonna say...
Are you working with low RAM? or an older Pentium 4 computer?
Dell?
HP?
or sumthin?

Still...
Talent and musicality is allll over this ...

You are epic.
I can't wait to see how you get better.
Drums are awesome!!!!

I think it's perhaps.. and this is just me thinking out loud right now.. is the bitrate and sample depths of loops?

I have heard similar things happening mixing 16 bit loops with 32 bit loops....
in that case your best bet would be to re-render everything together on the same bit depth and 441000, and then try another quick export.. that should fix the glitch that everyone is hearing on the pad.

I like your style.
I can't wait to hear your drum and bass!
(Deviantart.com?!?!?! too?!?!?!)

PS, let me know if it works, and repost this.. this is a really good piece of music.

on Butterfly Opens - Titanium Handles Lock Fast by n0mad23
Elaine was tellin' me that there was a disparity between the original demo, and then your uptodate take.

Of course personally, I think you have made gold from grace with this...
I don't know why but the crows make me want to cry...
I remember about 2 years ago.. I was talking about how all of looperman was a murder of crows...
I should send you that track...
But
lets see.... Delay is the thing.. I mean...
I am not saying this as a Negative comment.. but I just wanted to muse on it...

"What would you do without delay?!"

Personally, I think I would do my damndest to emulate it with picking and instrumentation.. but I would love to hear a dry mix sometime for my own sick twisted pleasure...

Hey Sean, can you feel the change,...?
I need to come up and see you very soon.

This is one of the most immersible pieces of music I have ever enjoyed.
My only complaint is that I couldn't have been there.

EDIT for everyone confused reading this next part lol

Agreed! I remember you musing on that a bit!
I know for me personally, and you could most definitely agree, that there's a certain substance known to man that somehow initiates that dub/reggae/jam feel?

I know what you know what I am talking about!

I remember, ... I know this is kinda bleh, but listening to stuff like Black Flag, and the Bad Brains... Punk rock jam bands.. and I started to get the idea of it...

And actually funny enough Bob Marley came very late to me in my life... The whole Kingston thing.. I mean... It's just...
what do you do with someone that is putting smoke in the air?

You give them art!

I feel nothing for the cats that watch tv, eat, and sleep.

But the dub/reggae/feeling... It's TOTALLY about what you mentioned in our dialogue... the fact that the mixer board INITIALLY emulated that delay feel because it was recording the monitor sounds....
that split second delay.
became delay... crazy it wasn't feedback lol

I do want to add this song is perfect by the way.. the cow freaked me out and the knife thing...
The things we do for art ehh?

Delay?
Is it just a production technique?
or does it mirror something bigger within the art? (besides making segues sound badaaaasssss lol)

We could probably jive on this for hours.

You should be very proud. This is a piece of work I would show my kids kids (etc, etc)

How long did it take you to create?
or was it just pouring out of you?
n0mad23
n0mad23 replied Unknown
Thanks for the timeliness of this review, Abe. Brilliant. I've been exchanging ideas with dungbeatl and jahknow recently about Dub, and this one's been lurking for like 6 months now...so it's on my mind.

What would I do without delay? Just today I was thinking about those moments in music where my soul rang like a bell. For example, when I was 15 I discovered Bob Marley on some late night first-gen cable show. I wept. At that moment I realized why I'd never be truly satisfied with 1970's Rock.

Naturally I sought out Reggae religiously thereafter! When I heard The Clash drawing from it, it only validated what I'd suspected. The rotten thing was I was in small town Eastern Wa and none of my friends wanted anything to do with it. The honesty and sincerity of that early stuff really spoke to me.

In this same time period I saw a documentary about the Kingston recording industry. A lot of the "studios" were in fact living rooms crowded with the musicians, and an engineer in the kitchen with a hole knocked in the wall separating the rooms with a sledgehammer. In these recording sessions, a chillum was always being passed between the musicians, and one was always smoking, and two would pause in playing during the passing.

But the music never stopped! And the smokier the space was, the more that proto-dub came into play. That delay sound on the upstroked guitar string was a total simulation, using what? more and more damping with each stroke of the pick. Same with the snare and rim shots - an echo sound made to speak to the state of consciousness furthering the manipulation of our sense of time.

Yeah, without delay I'd figure out some way to imitate it. Even with delay, I do it anyway and you can hear that in my playing of the genggongs. I do this a lot with the didgeridoo, too and do pseudo-echoes because I have to!

Very interesting and cool!
Been meaning to come and hear you out for a bit now...
I would have loved a water whistle on this! lol

It's such a collage of sounds...
at first I was like "wha? wha? wha? wha?"
and then I realized I was "wha?"ing on the down counts
and then I realized I was dancing
and then I realized I just found cigarette.
thanks!
By far my favorite part was the xylophone at the end...
that sound I wanted to bury my ears into.

Great job!
I will make sure to keep a look out for you future works of madness!

the panning is one simple thing, if somebody tells you ... lol ... there are many things about production that are pretty simple and easy, you only need to learn when to do what. I once recorded some tracks with a very skilled producer (Peter Wolf, he produced Starship in the 80's) and I was so surprised that he only did simple things, I expected much more technical things than he did ... he told me to prefer always the more simple solution for any problem, in 90% of all cases it's the better one ...
thx a lot for your review man!!!

I miss your sounds!
Awesome mix.
Awesome....
Tremelo guitar like water runnin' off the windowpane.

You nailed it.
I am really happy to see you back!

Perhaps my only criticism would be instead of the synth actual strings, but I know how it goes.. programing that stuff is such a drag.
Arrangement is effortless
almost trip-hop.
Totally frames everything.
Drums are amazing.

which synth do you mean? cause there are only 3 little synth lines in it, and they are more on the rhythmical side ...
anyway ... and I agree with you on the tremolo git, I simply adore the sound of a tremolo!!

ah, now that I listen again I think you know what synth you mean ... that's part of the loop from pianosounds ... check that out, it's called "jaw breaker string" ....

thx a lot for your review, as always much appreciated!!!

You won't recognize this one, except for elements when I'm done, Abe! Now that I know what my current project is, I know exactly what I need to do with this one. It's going to be way more of a narrative, and it's going to have more space, transitions, and all that. Agree about drums, and some sort of "organic" intervention going beyond the genggongs.

The database needs to meltdown by the end in a sonic representation.

I think you'll dig it. Music to have a Rebellion To.

Yeah!

Actually In some ways... You are like a plant...
that's the best way to explain you as a creative entity..

Silent and living... Just growing and growing thru the headphase.
Just this epic flow of eponymous creativity.

See, from my personal background I hear the drums kicking in and then it taking a more pop form.. but I appreaciate this a whole hell of a lot compared to the original.

I think pop sensibilities... I mean... It's like.. on some ways.. I have been Anti-pop for about a year and a half... and I think it's a great way to illicit natural human emotion.
but
you have crossed this line and I would hug you if I could.

It's like the web of life is integrated and the emotion and feel are one and the same... fx drops pull and toss naturally and the voice/timbre mixes effortlessly..

You need a hook.
in general.
You need hooks.
you have music and arrangement down more so than any musical artist I have ever heard Sean.

But that american sugar pop is lacking..
and I don't know if I should commend you or hug you.
but just know it's not about what people (like me especially) think about your music

It's really about what you want.
If I was with you I would drop hooks. Guitar wise.. Vocally... Spoken Poetry.

This is sooo freaking ethereal... and I will try and write something.. but I would prefer to meet your face.

lol - and to think I often feel like I'm compromising too much already! I've been on a quest for accessibility since beginning performance long time ago. Got into melody making because there were enough drums, and most people don't hear it in percussion. I know exactly what you mean (I think, but you tend to write in poetry, so interpretations can be subjective), and to really achieve accessibility it's what I'm going to have to do.

I suspect I'm still in physical rebellion, as you can hear the sonic results. The mind is willing, but the fingers on the buttons seem to have a will of their own - lol.

We need to talk. Really sit down and have an aural/oral discussion about music. I remain far too intuitive, and your ground and perspective could help me a lot. Someone said a while back that I'd never be mainstream, but there's nothing to prevent me grabbing on to their curtails. Perhaps the American Sugar Pop will make me sticky enough to attach?
alividlife
I really appreciate your sense of dynamics ....
For one, I really dig the feel... Kinda this murky ol'school East Side thing happening.

Nice to meet your music!

Fantastic job keeping everything in order!

Releasable material right here.

Kinda wanted a bridge something to switch up the feel to accentuate the verses.... But that's just my mind wandering.
This works really well without the chorus...
The rhymes are nothing but hooks. Pretty much everybody you worked with here are some of the dopest rhymists around.
Well done all!
