Hi Farid,
Thanks for sharing this with us: the "setar" is an instrument that we don't happen to hear often.
I find this instruments has a very "sad" sound.
Peace, Domenico
Hi Guys,
You put together a real nice one. Very gooooood!
Spiv, you are now becoming a professional singer, and one of the most admired post-punk-electro-singer on looperman :-)
I understand that singing is an hobby for you, but you could remove some of the breaths during the editing (I know that they give you a "real" feeling, but you could decide to leave only the first in each section for instance...)
But again, I really like your work as it is, so please feel free to ignore my un-requested advises ;-)
Hey, thanks so much for the feedback! Your compliments are well taken! Really, I've always loved recordings where I could hear the singers breaths, so I try to keep that in mind. You're not the only one who's mentioned this, but I don't know if I'll change anytime soon. Part of it is that I smoke, and have to replenish my air power between phrases and stuff. Thanks for your kind comment my friend!
Hi Metabolic,
Good song. I don't think it is too repetitive, but it should get much better with some vocals on it. Due to the "intimate" nature of the track, with very delicate sounds, I think some deep spoken words would work well.
Definitely a good starting point.
Ciao, Domenico
PS: ...maybe the sound for the guitar solo can be more "bluesy", not sure though (if you use an amp-sim, try to move the mic-position a bit more to the border of the cone).
Superb!
The stop sections starting around 1:45 it's my favorite spot.
Great bass (the sound is a bit too "even", almost midi but I totally love the licks), super piano.
What to say on the drums: they drive a lot! And we have also some "short solo" moments to show us who the boss is ;-)
Outstanding! You are a real professional drummer and a complete musician. Hats off
Thanks again for sharing your music with us.
Ciao, Domenico
PS: hard to believe, coming from a guy who always mixes the bass too high, but the "bass-phrase" at 4:10 is a bit too loud (and a bit too "midi-sh"); only that segment.
Thanks for your kind words. This one was fun and it lent itself to lots-o-drums, which you know I like! On the bass volume at 4:10, I purposely boosted the level because it was a bass solo. If you notice, I did the same with the other sections with solos.
Very well played: kudos to the team.
Not a single note out of place. Really good!
And the mix is good as well.
Good song to start the new year!
Ciao, Domenico

Very good tune!
Like the epiano: simple but builds the right carpet for the vocals (really looking forward to hearing it completed).
I like the drums, but maybe the snare could be a bit more "dry", not sure though... and since this is your song I'll let you decide :-)
I also second the idea of Ed: let the listener wait for the arpeggio 'til the first chorus. Maybe you could just serve smaller chops of it as appetizer in the intro.
The track is also well mixed.
Good job!
Ciao, Domenico
Mrwol14, Thanks a lot for these great comments. I really like the idea of chopping up the arp and giving the listener just a taste of it in the intro. I am definitely going to try that. I am glad you think that the track is mixed well... I try but that is my weakness.
Hi Andrea,
I enjoyed the video and the soundtrack fits very well to it.
I was not aware of the existence of "movie mash-up"s until I have seen yours. It is an interesting concept.
Coming back to the music: nice choice of sounds, very clean and refined. The drums are a bit "in the back" but this is perfectly fitting the mood you are setting with this.
Loved the strings at the end (~1:25): wonderful!
Ciao, Domenico
Hi MrNomad,
I have been "away" for some time and the first song I find coming back is another gem from you. That's good!
Nothing to "comment" on the intro: it works well and it's well composed. Good.
Then ... reggae guitar at 1:30: beautiful. Reggae is the mother of all psychedelic rock :-)
And throughout the first part of the song it comes every now and then: again, beautiful. Very good idea.
The Rock riff at 2:50 builds up for the release at 3:10: Loved.
Dist gtr 3:41 not so fond of the sound (a bit too extreme)
Clean gtr 4:05: I would have pushed this a bit more (specially the first notes)
5:10 the drum doubles: this is our StaticNomad trademark! fits perfectly!
And of course, I was forgetting about the banjo: it needs to be there. Well done!
I like the bass gaining "room" around 7 minutes.
Here the song becomes more "airy" with slow synths, sparse notes from banjo and slow-attack guitars. Enjoyed.
The bass riff at 8:35 works very well with the drums and the guitar which doubles the riff few bars later adds the right tension. And of course, slide guitar, another big fav of our MrNomad. Liked it as well.
At 9:45 we have "almost" a melody played, but not really: we all know how you try to avoid being "melodic", that would be boring.
Not so fond of the slide-gtr around 10:45 the notes seem to be a bit "detached" and the sound is not "on-par" with the rest. But I understand how well the different sound works to introduce the next section. So slide-gtr be it. Still a bit doubtful but all in all I liked it.
At 12:30 we have some drum hits from what seems to be an electronic drum kit.
Was the drum sound change really needed? don't know. But it is not disturbing for sure.
I also liked the chords played by the bass in the last section.
Nice sound, a bit "synthish" indeed but I think in this song most of the bass is not a real one... and this liquid bass sound is another one of your trade-marks.
You have a lot of trade-marks, that's a good index of a creative mind, and now THIS IS A HUGE COMPLIMENT.
But don't get used to it, wolves are not used to kindness, not at all ;-)
A final judgement on the song: I wouldn't say this is your "best work" but this is due to the nature of your music.
It is very hard to pick a "favorite" over your tracks.
For sure this is once more a great psychedelic track: whenever you will release an album (or several ones) they will include great music. Fact. Period.
Good to get your great reviews after a month of being away. I have still been uploading so here are tracks you may not have heard:
A Month Of Mondays, Fly Yes, Land No and Three Miles Late.
Read reply to Crucethus as it covers some of your points.
Is reggae the mother of all psychedelic rock? Enjoyed doing it here, maybe I should do more.
3:12 guitar release we get some electric slide. All other slide is on resonator.
At 3:41 I love the extreme guitar (you can hear it also 1:59 and 4:52). I'm maybe more into weird sounds than you but melody and groove are my favourite + most important things.
4:05 clean guitar. By "pushed", you mean you would have raised its level?
5:05 double time drums features one of my best basslines. It's guitar through octave pedal. Most of bass in this is, except for some fat synth bass.
No banjo here, just resonator guitar (see Crucethus reply).
At 7 mins, I'm removing layers, boosting bass, making bass + drum groove breathe more. Less intensity, more space, more beauty, brush drumkit returns for good chillout funk stuff.
When you give things space, you can still bring in short blasts of sound so I use bits of strings, slide guitar, sitar guitar etc. But I don't think I used any slow attack guitar there.
8:42 wah funk guitar playing is pretty much the same as fast stuff on 5:42. I always say good riffs can sound great with different types of drums - that's one reason I do the double time drum thing. It's easy and and inspires even more cool playing.
"At 9:45 we have "almost" a melody played". Don't know what you mean. I love good melodies though I'm not really a lead or solo player - I'm just a rhythm, riff, grooving kind of guy. But I have lots of melodies in my tracks I think people could sing, like a proper tune.
10:45 slide I really like. There is maybe something slightly off about the sound but it works OK. I've added quite a bit of chorus to it there.
12:24 electro kit: This track, just like Right Place Wrong Century and Three Miles Late, has a hip hop single hit kit in it. I muted it mostly in this track but then brought it in for the big chill ending. It has lots of fun effects on it.
Nice, gentle bass chords played in last section. That's because they are guitar chords. Remember - most of the bass in this is guitar. I'm really not sure how many people do that but I do it a lot, for different reasons.
No synth liquid bass in this (well, maybe a bit) but maybe you mean the liquid guitar/bass sound. In another track you thought it was fretless bass (The Wrong Side Of Zero).
"wolves are not used to kindness"
Well, you write lots of kind things on this site. Or maybe they are just honest, not kind.
Yes, hard to choose a favourite song. Maybe my best track ever is one not many people have heard. It's on Looperman, is only 5:30 and is called Circular Motion.
Danke thinks my best track is Into The Out There.
See you around for the next track. It's another psychedelic epic...
This is very good!
I really like how the song is developed!
It has a good dynamic range, not too squeezed. Liked!
The vocal part from Romy is very wisely used: your music complements the voice in a beautiful way. Liked a lot!
The guitar part is interesting... maybe you could improve the sound or give it a more "live feeling" but IMHO it is very good as it is.
What I don't liked is the fake audience:
- first, you don't need it the track is good enough to live without these sound effects
- second it is very strange how these people decide to get suddenly quiet for no apparent reason (1:34 they start to get noisy and then at 1:58 for no apparent reason they fade out ... but then at 2:20 they decide all of a sudden to clap their hands, but only for few seconds then they are quiet again)
- third if this is a live event, the fade out seems really out of place
I appreciate the good work you have done to make the audience sound realistic (the hands clapping at 2:20, and around 3:20 are very well done) but I simply believe you don't need them.
That said: it's a wonderful track. Faved.
Ciao, Domenico
Thanks a lot for the comments! So yes couple of things, I agree with the track maybe being confusing but it was only a demo as in now I have replaced it with an updated version however it is not a finished product. I have yet to mixdown a track and replace few things! Thank you for listening.
Hi Carole,
So good to see a new song from you.
And what a song! I loved it!
Emo you say? well I am an old fashioned rocker, so to me this music says more "dark" (I can hear some early cure echoes, some new-order or siouxsie twists) ... but anyhow, great music for sure.
I love the way it starts: dry drum, good bass riff and then the first guitar note is simply a perfect introduction to your voice...
Your voice which (I agree to Bear) really comes close to the Lennox of the Eurythmics times (specially the very first verse). Wow! Goose bumps!
1:35 ... wonderful! the guitar solo and your voice's melody work perfectly together! and immediately after we have some short "shout&scream;" verses, which bring back the "post-punk" feeling. Totally loved!
The only think I would change is the "keyboard" solo at 2:35 (not bad, but not on par with the rest of the music).
Thanks again for this wonderful song!
I wish you a pleasant Christmas time!
Un abbraccio, Domenico
Hello Domenico ! How is my sweet friend ? 'Hope you started this new year with much joy and happiness .
I thank you very much for your detailed and instructive comment and the time you devoted to this little thingy !
I'm real happy you enjoyed it and you're right about the melotron solo ( sounds anachronistic but I found it funny ).
I wish you and your loved ones all the best for 2014 .
Take good care,
Un abbraccio in return
xoxo
Loved. I really like your style.
This song reminded me a bit of the cure late 90s albums.
I could almost envision Robert Smith singing on it, but with his "deep tone" voice (something like "club america").
Again... totally loved it!
Ciao, Domenico
Thanks Domenico....very kind words that fuel my drive to keep doing this. I really appreciate the support and your taking the time to check out my track and for leaving a comment.
Hi Kenny,
I liked this one. As many already have said, the intro is good, so good that probably SJ is right and it should deserve to become a new song... I am curious to see what the lady will do with it!
Once more you confirm that I don't understand anything about music genres: I usually hate trance, but this is nice... so I will continue to use my 2 big macro-categories, good-music and music-that-I-don't-like!
Take care,
Domenico
Wonderful song Zappo!
Of course love the bass and it is very well mixed.
I really liked the part starting around 2:30 where you go more in "prog-rock" direction, almost some echoes of the "good" genesis, but much modern.
Then at 4:30 we have another interesting twist.
As usual... outstanding!
Ciao, Domenico
Hi Spiv,
Thanks for this nice "surprise": you covering REM was not the most obvious thing to expect :-)
I love REM, though Monster is definitely not my favorite album.
Your rendition of this song is really special: I think the original is way darker. You chose to use "more open" sounds and yet reach a level of "uneasiness" that really stands out.
You singing hip-hip-hurray is almost scary. And that's meant as a compliment!
Beautiful. Looking forward to hearing more from you.
Thanks.
Ciao, Domenico
Thanks so much for your kind words Domenico! It's interesting to hear you say that the original is way darker, I guess you're probably right. It was fun to put my own spin on the hip hip hurray parts, the timing is so important on that part. Thanks for downloading, and leaving a comment! I appreciate your words!
I usually don't like dubstep, but there are a few exceptions: this is one of these.
Your voice is really interesting and the vocals here have a great power: they deliver a sense of emptiness and a desperate urge of communicating, but the singer is immediately drown by the deep-slow-synth which, like the waves of a raged ocean, covers the words with the blanket of the night.
Really good track.
You have gained a new fan MrDjShemZee :-)
Ciao, Domenico
Wow... I have no words.
This qualifies as the most beautiful song I have heard in a while (and not only on looperman).
It really touched me: the poem is intelligent and sad. Very sad. I could almost hear that front gate banging. And its sound didn't leave any place for hope.
As Stefano pointed out, the sung counterparts add another dimension to the song. Beautiful.
The light bass builds a kind of "ostinato". Simple and beautiful.
The guitar from Behnam is like a fly trying to escape away. Again: beautiful.
Thanks for this wonderful song.
And thanks for letting me know the verses of this beautiful poem (unfortunately I will not be able to read it in the original version, but the translation is very touching).
Respect.
Ciao, Domenico
Hi ShemZee,
You made my day! I stumbled on this old thing by chance and I totally love it!
Elvis was the first "real musician" I listened to as a child (my dad used to have several Elvis audio-tapes) and this song has been the one that started my love for music.
Your execution is very good!
Thanks again!
Ciao, Domenico
Wow! This is really perfect!
Let me start with the drums: Scott is the man! Superb.
Then the guitar: funky with a touch of rock. Again: superb!
The vocal track: good, very good.
And let's not forget the bass: well balanced, funky at the right point, without exaggerating. Loved.
Thanks for sharing this gem with us!
Ciao, Domenico
PS: you mentioned you played everything but drums, well I have to say you have a very high pitched voice for being a MrMidiMan ;-)
Wrwolf14 thanks for noticing I am a man, and could not have ever gotten that vocal out of me to save my life. :-)
Yes I did play everything except the drums that is me on a Squire jazz bass I picked up recently. I am kind of digging playing bass. I have not played Bass much since my main instrument is guitar.
Coming from a bass player it is nice to hear it did it justice.
I really do appreciate your positive comments on this one and I am so glad you and the others enjoyed listing to it.
- tone change is always a good weapon when it's used well.
you did it. good! starting from 3:02 the song "takes off" for a second flight.
- example of clipping at 0:46, 1:03, 1:14 ... (it's nothing serious, it takes nothing away from the beauty of this song)
- I am not sure this song could do with a faster pace: I would not augment the BPM. But you know, I am a romantic italian dude and I like slow songs :-)
Hi ShemZee,
I liked a lot the vocal and the metal-guitars: these elements are as solid as a rock. Good!
Dubstep? not my cup of tea... but it's good to see somebody who's not afraid of experimenting.
Good!
Ciao, Domenico
Applause: clap clap clap!
Very good vocal track! Agree to Spiv: we have a new star here on looperman!
You should only clean up the mix a bit, this is top class material and it deserves the best!
Ciao, Domenico
Wow! Such compliments that I never expected. Thank you. Agreed it needs a cleaner mix, levels and such. Thank you for your honest feed back. Looperman I love this place :-)
Very nice track.
I think you should improve the point around 0:40 where the "deep-bass-synth" gets replaced by a "finger-plucked" bass. You need something to build a smoother passage.
Loved the guitar work: simply beautiful! Some Gilmour influences, clear and definite sound. And the solo is the final touch on a wonderful dreamy synth carpet. Loved it.
Very good work on the drum programming as well.
Thanks for sharing.

I'm real happy you enjoyed it and you're right about the melotron solo ( sounds anachronistic but I found it funny ).
I wish you and your loved ones all the best for 2014 .
Take good care,
Un abbraccio in return

This song reminded me a bit of the cure late 90s albums.
I could almost envision Robert Smith singing on it, but with his "deep tone" voice (something like "club america").
Again... totally loved it!

Take care,
Domenico

Of course love the bass and it is very well mixed.
I really liked the part starting around 2:30 where you go more in "prog-rock" direction, almost some echoes of the "good" genesis, but much modern.
Then at 4:30 we have another interesting twist.
As usual... outstanding!

on REM I Dont Sleep I Dream Spivkurl Cover by Spivkurl
Thanks for this nice "surprise": you covering REM was not the most obvious thing to expect :-)
I love REM, though Monster is definitely not my favorite album.
Your rendition of this song is really special: I think the original is way darker. You chose to use "more open" sounds and yet reach a level of "uneasiness" that really stands out.
You singing hip-hip-hurray is almost scary. And that's meant as a compliment!
Beautiful. Looking forward to hearing more from you.
Thanks.

Your voice is really interesting and the vocals here have a great power: they deliver a sense of emptiness and a desperate urge of communicating, but the singer is immediately drown by the deep-slow-synth which, like the waves of a raged ocean, covers the words with the blanket of the night.
Really good track.
You have gained a new fan MrDjShemZee :-)

on THE WIFE S SONG ft Behnam Zandi deciBel by DJShemZee
Respect.

on BLUE SUEDE SHOES (Elvis cover) by DJShemZee
You made my day! I stumbled on this old thing by chance and I totally love it!
Elvis was the first "real musician" I listened to as a child (my dad used to have several Elvis audio-tapes) and this song has been the one that started my love for music.
Your execution is very good!
Thanks again!

on Your No Good For me by midiman007
Let me start with the drums: Scott is the man! Superb.
Then the guitar: funky with a touch of rock. Again: superb!
The vocal track: good, very good.
And let's not forget the bass: well balanced, funky at the right point, without exaggerating. Loved.
Thanks for sharing this gem with us!

PS: you mentioned you played everything but drums, well I have to say you have a very high pitched voice for being a MrMidiMan ;-)
Peace and happy Holidays :-)

Wonderful song.
I'll keep it short:
- catchy chorus. Liked a lot.
- good job with the "subtle" backing vocals.
Thanks again for this gem Carole.

on We Stand by DJShemZee
I liked a lot the vocal and the metal-guitars: these elements are as solid as a rock. Good!
Dubstep? not my cup of tea... but it's good to see somebody who's not afraid of experimenting.
Good!

Very good vocal track! Agree to Spiv: we have a new star here on looperman!
You should only clean up the mix a bit, this is top class material and it deserves the best!

but I enjoyed it a lot!
And actually, I was expecting something weirder, this song has its melodic moments :-)
Thanks for sharing your talent with us Spiv!
