Description : Here's a soundtrack made for a holiday I don't even truly celebrate. Haha. It's a pretty dark toned track, but nice overall. What do you all think? Enjoy~

Nice, I dig anything dark. Perfect for Halloween, which actually isn't that far off now. Good mixture of percussion and the beat is pretty nice too. This a lil more electronic than hip hop but it that's okay. Could of used a lil more bass but it's still pretty good as is. great job, keep working bro peace

Very nice track! Whether it follows the theme or not I really like it! I think it would've been great for a movie like "Halloween" so I guess you nailed it! good sounding mix, and the arrangement is nice too! Good work!

Good song.
I like your choice of sounds and melodies, interesting combination of "joyful" parts with some darker tones (eg. the glockenspiel mixed with the darker strings and the "hip-hop" drums)
The melodies bring me back to the early 80s: they could have been used in a soundtrack for a Dario Argento movie (definitely In Topic!)
On the mix side, very good job. To my taste, only the hi-hat sounds a bit "apart" from the rest of the drumkit.
That said, thanks for the good time your song gave me (I have already listened it twice!)
Ciao, Domenico

I apologize for the late reply. I am grateful you enjoyed the track. I will redo this track though. The reverb is a bit too much, without a doubt!

No, I wouldn't say it's a failure if it sounds a little like a Christmas theme. You probably just need to make it a bit darker, a bit more discordant - a bit scarier. Either musically, through your choice of notes and chords or sonically through your choice of sounds (get more evil stuff in there).

Or do both of these things.

I don't make evil/discordant/terrifying music but I imagine it's not that hard to get that effect. Much harder to make something enjoyable and melodic.

This track falls much more on the melodic and enjoyable side but you can make it darker if that's the way you want to go.

Cool track mate! Very catchy and interesting melody. Track feels a bit empty at the break though. For me it certainly has a creepy feeling and sounds mesh well. Good job! :)

The music has something mystical. Even something like a soundtrack to a movie. I like it very much.

Nice work on this one Ookami.
Does have a tinge of dark and devious melody and the bells suggest something related to children or adolescence. I think it works really well for Halloween as the name says. For who knows just how much of a deep impression Halloween actually has on an innocent childs Psyche !!!

Yeah, I at first thought more of Christmas but I think it works for Halloween too.

Maybe it would soundtrack a hip hop Halloween scene?

I'd prefer those drums to have the reverb decreased as I find it a bit too much.

But the drum programming and sounds are decent.

You definitely like melody and have quite a considered composer's approach (what I've picked up from the 10 or so track of yours I've listened to).

And you're only going to get better over the years.

I appreciate it, SN. I will continue to do better. I have never attempted a holiday themed track, so this was very difficult at first, but I am impressed with the results. However, if it sounds similar to a Christmas theme, it's somewhat of a failure for me. Nevertheless, I'm glad you took the time to listen and comment.

Reminds me of Danny Elfman, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Edward Scissorhands. Impressed me immensely as the subtle build and addition of instruments was right on cue. My anticipation of each musical movement was met as, my ear, expected. This is a wonderful theatrical theme and soundtrack. Well done. :)

I'm very happy to hear that you enjoyed the track! It was a hassle at first, since, once again, I don't really make much holiday-themed soundtracks. Perhaps I'll get better over the course of time. Thank you for the awesome comment!

Sounds really good! I agree that the melody could pass for a Christmas tune on its own, but it makes the track more creepy since its with everything else in the track.

Aww man. I can't believe it. Does it really sound like Christmas? Well, I'm glade you commented and also pointed it out. I am, however happy you think this was somewhat creepy. Thanks again man.

Great track Ookami. Honestly i thought it was more of a Christmas tune than a Halloween one. I felt that it was not dark enough or maybe cut back on the main bells synths and replace it with something distorted/ scary. Thanks for sharing brother. Oh and drop in a horror movie sample in there!
MisterBloodworth
MisterBloodworth replied 30th Oct 2013 - 12 years ago
Sweet! Thanks man. I haven't thought of it as being a Christmas themed track. I appreciate you pointing that out to me. Also, a horror movie sample sounds like a cool idea. Unfortunately, I haven't mastered the ability to add sound samples and stuff such as that yet. Perhaps you could make a remake of the track and add such thing? Thanks for the comment, mate!

Description : Something i did when i was about 15, and when i still made beats. This particular track is actually the reason i decided to get into composing at all. I had a good run with the beats and hip-hop scene, but i always had a leaning more towards composing and this, i think, is the catalyst for that revelation. This beat is 9 years old, and gives you a sense of what it was like to be a young, passionate, musically driven teen. Thank you.
