Hi Spiv,
Interesting. You have a lot of different things going on.
Definitely you have an industrial "sound" but you have also a "dark" theme around 1:20
Liked!
Ciao, Domenico
Thanks for stopping in to listen! I wasn't really thinking industrial when making this, I guess it must be the basses and the half time beats or something. That piano riff around 1:20 turned out nice, it's my favourite part of the song for sure. I was surprised how dark C# major could be. I appreciate the review!
Superb track.
Dreamy synths, retro-drums, wonderful use of the vocals.
We have all the required ingredients here!
Thanks so much for sharing your music with us!
Ciao, Domenico
Superb track. I like the first "chill out" part: very "evocative".
The transition to the rock part is working very well... and actually with the transition bit you cover an additional music genre ... almost disco, so you have three genres in one song :-)
I haven't listened the previous version but I find the drumming here very well balanced and it works effectively.
Overall a great track! Well done!
Ciao, Domenico
Wow! What a track we have here.
Very professional sounding.
The "main riff" has some echoes of the Passenger and I am sure MrIggy himself would like to lay down a vocal track for this (but I doubt he is on Looperman).
Looking forward to hearing it with a killer vocal line!
Ciao, Domenico
This is good!
The opening rythm/bass is solid and very catchy.
I like a lot the weird part around 2:15
Followed by a more "dreamy" short section which introduces us to some industrial sounds.
Good mixture of "uneasiness" and "catchy" elements.
Definitely a good song.
Ciao, Domenico
Very good use of the samples: as AnalogDisc mentioned this really sounds like a (well) played track.
I like the synth melody: catchy.
Good song!
Ciao, Domenico
Yep...That's all it takes for my buddy. I've had allot of women in my life, but only my dogs have stuck with me in good and bad times. A wise man once said, if you really want to know who love you most, put your girlfriend or wife in your car trunk for 30 minutes. Than put your dog in the trunk for 30 minutes. Open the trunk and which one knocks the piss out of you and which one is happy to see you...But I digress!
Anyway, thanks for your kind words, Domenico. Glad you like it.
Hi MrNomad,
Thanks for bringing this song back to our attention.
Definitely a good one. Probably your best one up to now.
I have read quickly through the comments and I see that everything has already been said, so I will not add much.
Just let me highlight once more how it is impossible to really understand the creative process that leads to a masterpiece: this song is not "better played" nor "better mixed" nor has "better ideas" than other ones, but it just works as a whole! And how good it works!
Thanks again for your music.
Ciao, Domenico
PS: the guitar that kicks in at 3:58 is a killer riff! Most people would have made a 4 minutes song just out of this single thing
Hi. I made this a featured track for the first time because I don't have anything else in a good enough state to upload yet, though I am working on some spectacular new tracks. Not many had heard this one and it might be my best so I thought I'd "promote" it.
"it just works as a whole"
Yes, this might be more important than any single riff or cool sound or amazing solo - everything working perfectly together. Maybe that's what a masterpiece really is.
It seems CyberLiam disagrees and feels your and Danke's favourite guitar part should be removed (I suspect he just doesn't like that sort of guitar sound or playing). But I agree with you and also think that riff sounds much better because this track doesn't have much guitar in it so is a surprise. It's just me playing something like four simple chords but picking each note rather than strumming. But it's tight playing.
"Most people would have made a 4 minutes song just out of this single thing"
Yes, perhaps. I do lots of varied repetition in my tracks (so, the same or similar riff being played on different instruments at different times) but also like to include things that are only heard once or for a short section. Sometimes, there's no real reason (in terms of track structure) to hear a part again - even if it's really good.
That riff would probably be less disnctive or interesting in a rock song with lots of other guitar riffs and solos so is definitely more effective here.
I also like the harp solo after the killer guitar part. That's a strange combination!
Also, after a couple of minutes of the track, there is me making a fake didgeridoo sound (as the track chills out a bit) using my real-time voice through a vocoder that is modulating a synth clarinet sound. I still have that hardware vocoder but never use it. Maybe I should start again as that fake didg sound is pretty cool.
That was fun!
You have some of my favorite music ingredients in here!
The guitar around 1:05 is really "darkish" ... and the final part is intricate ... I like it!
Looking forward to hear it with a beat...
Ciao, Domenico
Very interesting.
I liked a lot the first part: I would not have chosen the brass sound for that line, but it works so well! This idea alone is worth the complete song.
Anyone, going on the rest is definitely top-class: the piano is building "lazy counterparts" to the background music. Nice.
I am not too fond of the "almost electro" drum part, but they work well in this context.
Another gem from our talented duo.
Ciao, Domenico
Professional sounding: clean and well arranged.
I really like the final part with the funky guitar. Cool!
Very hard to find a genre, since this song is really a time trip: you bounce forth and back between the 70s the 60s and the 50s ... but that makes it all very interesting!
As MrNomad alreay stated: unbelievable how much you have going in 3 minutes! Very good.
Ciao, Domenico
Thanks for the listen and your comments sum up what I was trying to re-create. I do try to cram as much as I can into my work...most of the time it doesn't work, but I think it did on this one. Your time and comments are much appreciated.
Hi SJ,
You never disappoint me! This is another beautiful track.
You got a lot of comments/hints on the mix, this is because I think this track *is difficult* to mix, since you have a lot of things going on (as you said, it's so "dense" that it wouldn't almost need a vocal part).
But it's so good that you cannot remove anything!
What could you do to make it more "airy"?
I second Dan and Ed: you could try panning the background synths a bit more to the side, this should already free some space. And I also agree to Ed for the drums: this is a chilly song, so no need to go for explosive drums. Nevertheless adding some cymbals (as somebody else already noted) should make the mix more "extended" on the high frequencies, giving it a more airy touch.
But please let me state it once more: I like this song! In fact I like it a lot!
Ciao, Domenico
I really liked this one... and I think the trick is not "the sound" but the way you use it!
In this case, the "goose" is more represented by the way the notes "jump" in a goofy way, bringing to my mind the imagine of a dancing goose on the cold snow.
Did already tell you that you are talented?
probably yes... and I really believe it!
Ciao, Domenico
Like the percussive-synth part a lot: it reminds me a bit of the late 70s, early 80s horror movies soundtracks. Good.
The flow is good: a bit "dirty" sounding, but I find that int this case it adds tension. Liked it.
I did not really understand the purpose of the 2 "sounds" at the end (phone ringing?)
Overall a very good track.
Ciao, Domenico
Very good!
You had me at the bass loop: very nice!
Then, Kyle's vocal part comes in and I am hooked.
I like also how the keys work on the drum loop.
Faved for sure.
Ciao, Domenico
Good track. You may want to expand it a bit: you have a lot of good ideas and the chop-work on the vocal part was very effective. Well done.
The only thing I don't like too much is the sound of the bass-synth: it is too "intrusive" (IMHO) - it starts at 0:16
But this is definitely a good piece of music!
Ciao, Domenico
Smooth and sophisticated.
Drums and Guitar are top-class (as usual with your productions).
But this time we need to mention the sax work as well: the sax player has a clear and definite sound. Very good.
Thanks for sharing your music with us.
Ciao, Domenico
Thank YOU, Domenico! You always give us such nice compliments. I agree regarding the sax. Franco's brother, Roberto is top notch and very professional. He can't always work with us, since he is a working and traveling musician, so his time is limited, but Franco grabs him when he is available.
Outstanding. The sound of the guitar is "professional": clean, with the right amount of dynamic and very natural.
Your voice works very well in this environment.
And the lyric is also good.
Superb song all around!
Ciao, Domenico
Hi Acidizer,
I like what you have here. Good ideas.
I think you can still improve a couple of things.
My 2 cents:
- very good work on the guitar; in some points a bit "too quiet" in the mix
- good drum (programming?) works perfectly in this track
- lack of a "bass carpet" ... you need a bass guitar on this
- the voice is not merged well enough in the mix
Regarding the voice, I think you are very convincing on the "metal" parts, you deliver well on the "mid-hi" pitched part (~1:55) but your voice is not too convincing on the "low" parts (eg. the beginning).
My personal highlight is the ending refrain, with the metal and the high-voice duet: it is very good!
Looking forward to hear a reworked version of this song: it could become a great track!
Ciao, Domenico
Good powerful riffs going on here.
And very good work on the drums.
I think this song needs just a vocal track (probably this is the kind of collaboration you are requesting).
Looking forward to see how it develops...
Ciao, Domenico
I had to stop once again, just to listen to the wonderful vocals of Spiv!
I cannot say that I like this more than the original (I am a big Cure fan) but I enjoyed it... and this is already a big compliment!
I already wrote that I like your version and Spiv's vocals are just the icing on the cake: he doesn't try to sound like a Robert Smith's clone. This is 100% Spiv-ish :-)
Thanks for this nice cover.
Ciao, Domenico
You have another positive feedback from me: I like how you sing!
You have your own style and your voice is definitely interesting.
Good job!
Ciao, Domenico
I appreciate your helpful feedback! You can always be counted on to listen to my new stuff, it doesn't go unnoticed! Trying to get away from using autotune, so I thought a cover would be a good way to train myself a little. Thanks much!
Nice flow.
You deliver a really good vocal part here. Respect.
The only part which is not 100% convincing me is the 2-nd voice in the beginning, the yo-yo-yo-no should be less "clean" IMHO: it sounds too similar to the main voice, I would prefer to have it with a totally different tone (some filtering, maybe some phaser or flanger, not sure)
Very good track: thanks for sharing it with us.
Ciao, Domenico
Yo! Really appreciate the comment man. I agree 110% with you; as far as the mixing and stacking goes with this, it was a very amateur attempt (I've been set for a while on re-doing it at some point) After spending time practicing on other projects, coming back to this is like ehh.. haha
Thanks for the positivity, hope to see your feedback on future uploads. Peace..
I don't know at all what Grime is but you made me curious, so I have just listened to "Dizzee Rascal" (I luv u)
Actually I think your track is better than his: you have good sounds, clean and powerful. Maybe you could make thing more interesting by creating a bit more "counterparts" between the deep bass and the synth line: they go really hand-in-hand for most of the track.
But of course the "determining factor" is the vocal lines that you can put on your beat.
So, all you need now is to record a nice vocal track.
Iv been writing lyrics and practising rapping/mc'ing far longer than I've been trying to create beats, as soon as I get my hands on a mic you'll be hearing from me!
To hear that someone feels anything I've done is better than dizzee means alot, but I wouldn't judge grime on dizzee alone. JME is a far bigger influence for me.
If your still curious... JME, Skepta, scorcher, Lethal bizzle.... or stuff produced by Teddy, Preditah, Rude Kid
The guitar is smooth and dreamy: good!
Nice bass groove (few notes but chosen with taste) and good synth pads.
I think this track could have been a good minute longer: I really enjoyed it!
