Tally Pruit*, bass bro.

If it is the evening for you. Otherwise, try not to run that ship aground, Captain Ehab**.

"Marriam-Webster never put out a new addition..."

True but Merriam-Webster do. You're missing an 'e', Mr E.

I'm still thinking about Tally Pruit, wondering what she's up to (hopefully reading this), whether she ever got rid of the nits and if she's still emotionally scarred from being thoroughly Evanated on the bus.

Ha, I'd forgotten about FourObesePussies. I do like that. One obese pussy would be quite enough to deal with but imagine being crushed/suffocated by four of them. Still, there are worse ways to go.

Went kayaking with a friend the other day who I hadn't seen in 2 years. She remembers all sorts of bizarre and amusing things I've said over the years. Probably passing jokes that I quickly forgot. She says I was quite fond of saying (to her?) "Salut, salope", which is my French translation of "Yo, bitch". I have no idea if the French ever say that. Translating "word up" in to French wouldn't work. I still don't know what it really means/where it comes from in English, despite quite often using it ironically as a greeting.

She also says that I once said it was a shame that T-shirts never have logos/designs printed on the armpits and that there should be more of that about. I have no memory of it but that's got to be a joke.

Please start using the noun and verb 'queue'. See if anyone tells you to "stop talking British".

I get the Lobos-Tesseradecade thing now and so may MrWolf14 (having heard Tesseradecade). Technically it works but it's not aesthetically pleasing.

Nomad, stepping into the shadow, forty six and two just ahead of him.

* See - there are an infinite number of possible greetings - even old girlfriends' bizarre names.

**Mr E version of character in classic novel Moby Dick, which I still haven't read.

Tally Pruit, Kayaking kanoodler.

"I'm still thinking about Tally Pruit, wondering what she's up to"

http://springfieldmugshots.com/mug/tally-marie-kocher

Looks like she's cooking and selling methamphetamine, as of two years ago. Dodged that bullet. Someone took her. He probably was on a different bus route.

"Moby Dick, which I still haven't read."

I've been in the middle of that bastard for nearly a year. Very engaging to start off. Once they leave the harbor and meet Ahab, it drags like a wet sack of hammers. Just checked my bookmark and I'm at page 250, which is a VERY lengthy chapter about whaling line. The size of the hemp rope, how it's coated, the difference in the barrel setup between American whaling boats and other. The barrels hold the line on the smaller boats so there is less tangling. One big barrel vs two smaller ones. It's my version of a sleeping pill. I've heard it gets VERY good again once the white whale is finally spotted and the chase begins. As for the last 150 pages,..... all fluff and irrelevant backstory, side story and plain old marine biology. Queequeg is a very interesting character, and I know there is a chapter titled "Queequeg in his coffin", so I guess he dies. Too bad. I've planned to do a track about the book once I'm finished called "Queequeg on the Pequod".

I'll start calling lines "queues" if you call car bonnets "hoods".

Oh, I checked the "practise/practice" thing. Practise is just on your side of the pond. My spell-check flags it as well. It is defined as only being your variation. We, I guess, rejected the idea and it is not a proper word here. It is NOT taught over here. Still good to know. I will not forget it, but I also cannot utilize it without being technically wrong.

Evan, as below, so above and beyond.

Skanktastic regreetings, Genital Rolling Pinner.

How goes the Grammar Naziing? I think you should give up on that.

I have returned because I have been thinking about Tally Pruit. What a bizarre name and what a fun little story. Certainly not The Evanator's finest moment. What a heartless bastard he was back in the day.

Tally Pruit doesn't even sound like someone's name but more like it might mean something like "Good evening" in Finnish.

I guess you no longer date any skanks. Wives tend not to approve of that. But, if she's a nice, clean, polite girl, I find that wives are totally OK with it. You can take that marital advice and bank it.

No, you've never mentioned being into Melissa Etheridge. Not sure I've even heard one of her songs.

Congratulations on educating me regarding pavement. I guess in the UK we would just say, collectively, 'paved surfaces'. Pavement here is just your sidewalk.

Also, do you Yank chaps ever use the word 'queue'? Why always this 'standing in line' business? There's a perfect, concise word for what you're taking three words to say and it's 'queue'. Still never heard an American use it.

"Lobos-Tesseradecade"

Is that supposed to mean 'a group of 14 wolves'?

Another time, Optimus Prime.

Nomad, underneath.

Yo, bro. Whatcha know?

"How goes the Grammar Naziing? I think you should give up on that. "

I never thought it would be a contentious subject, or any kind of "battle" as it's been called. Marriam-Webster never put out a new addition and had it seen as a declaration of war. It's just a collection of defined words.

I appreciate accurate critiques. I like to be corrected so I can learn from mistakes. I do not (typically) become indignant when being told I'm incorrect about something. Certainly not when I see a list of definitions.

My only regret on that thread was singling out an individual offender. Everything else has been cracking me up. Good stuff.

"Tally Pruit doesn't even sound like someone's name but more like it might mean something like "Good evening" in Finnish."

This cracked me up as well. I could instantly hear it said as a greeting, or in place of "Land ho!" or "Thar she blows!"

"do you Yank chaps ever use the word 'queue'? "

It's High School vocabulary. We don't learn it till we're in our teens. I say "in line", but never queue. No clue what the aversion is all about, but we do seem to resist using and teaching it.

You should hear what we're taught about our interactions with the Native Americans when we came from your side of the pond. All love and welcoming. Never a mention of small-pox or genocide. Just a big, nice meal with cornucopias and beautifully prepared turkey. We're really not taught any of the obscene, disgusting and all around horrible things we've done to others, till college.

"Is that supposed to mean 'a group of 14 wolves'? "

Clumsily, but yes. His 14, and your last track name went together. It's nowhere near as classy as FourObesePussies, I know. I'll try harder.

Evan, within.

Yo.

This is some pretty powerful stuff and very good for only one hour.

Compelling, kind of pretty intro. Good soundtrack music, actually.

Then some massive bass and distorted, crunchy percussion. Sounds like a fat, very fast d'n'b groove might drop. But it doesn't.

Good to hear you're working on a fuller mix as this is well worth pursuing. Master isn't bad though maybe it's a bit too loud.

2:41 nice arp outro. In a fuller version, perhaps the fast d'n'b drums drop after 8 bars or so of that outro arp and then we're into the second half, with perhaps the first 3/4 half returning in 4/4 time.

What do you think?

Trancey greetings, Cru Dawg.

Your title is pretty much composition philosophy/technique - keep throwing stuff at a track and see what sticks and keep on going until you hit on a really cool riff, fill or whatever.

Anyway: I like this.

Intro has a bit of fairground organ feel. That's what they play on the trance Merry-Go-Round.

0:07 much dirtier and then a bit of a music box type of melody and sound.

When that dirty top line kicks in 0:31, it all comes together, even without that much of a bassline. That is such a cool riff. What is it? It's quite a bit guitarey.

This has some of the dirt of grunge but it's very much a dance track so congrats on bringing those genres together - something I also like to do.

2:50 bongo grooves plus metallic percussion are good.

3:36 another synth with some cool movement and timbre, getting more intense around 3:52. shit building nicely before the next breakdown.

4:23 and it sounds a bit like a DJ changing record. Definitely at 4:38 as it sounds like a new track.

Aha my fave riff is returning but then drops out a little before 5:34 when another synth part takes over.

6:07 bassier synth moving about playfully.

Ending is too abrupt though I know it can be hard to do something else that fits nicely.

Overall: an accomplished piece of genre-merging dance skill.

"

Not Exactly as I was very new to this at the time as I did it adn I really had no idea what I was doing or why I was doing it but it seemed to work when I mixed this with that and then with this I would mix that. It's my first post on looperman and one of the early tracks using Acid. It also was the genesis for me to start mixing genres, and that that was OK to do that. I should go back and remix this, but I think I will leave it as a monument like in a museum. It will remind me where I have come from.

Hi.

I like your simple, chilled intro.

My main problem with the track is that I'm not sure Biggie's vocal style fits your tropical chill style. Something just doesn't feel right about it.

1:50 synth comes to the fore. Good delay and reverb on that a nice, dreamy melody.

I'm meant to say for a while that I'm impressed with your music in general based on how little time you say you've been doing it.

No complaints about the music here, just that its vibe doesn't seem to fit the timbre/mood/emotion/vibe of the vocal. Other people will strongly disagree but that's opinions for you.

Tropical greetings, as always.
15ludwicke
15ludwicke replied 23rd Aug 2015 - 10 years ago
Hey static,
This really was my main concern with the track. I tried to make the piano chords more somber an "dark" because of this, rather than the usual bright and happy chords of tropical house. I mean i think it works but I guess it is just one of those things htats going to be left up to opinion.

Thanks so much for the compliment! I've been working really hard the past few months(wow it must be getting close to a whole year at this point) to make my music as good as it possibly can be. Still putting in the 10-12 hours of producing a day, but sadly, I start college tomorrow so most of my time is going to be full now. But that's life I guess. Thanks for all the support as always static!

Loop-based greetings.

So very, very many comments so what more can I add? Well, mostly that it is a good piece you have assembled here. And that's coming from someone who generally strongly dislikes anything described as 'trap'. I hadn't even heard of that genre until a couple of years ago. I learnt about it through this site and now know just what it's about.

Anyway, the way this builds into something much more badass after a minute or so is well done. Damn fine mix overall too. I don't mind the loud-looking waveform and can't really hear any clipping.

I checked some of the loops and can't hear the Megapaul guitar one. Maybe it's buried deep. Where does that occur in this track?

Oh, wait a minute, for a track in this kind of genre, you're just supposed to say: "Yeah, dope track bro". Sorry about all those other unnecessary words.

Congrats again.

Hi.

I generally dislike most dubstep but I think this is really good. I actually read all the comments before pressing play so was expecting to hear some really weak ass drums.

However, I'm pleasantly surprised to find that they're pretty damn good. I like those scratchy hats (they're not muffled), which is quite a different sort of sound, and also don't see a problem with the kick.

I guess everything can be improved (and I spend a lot of time on doing that in great detail in my own tracks) but I don't see a problem in general with your drums - they're doing a good job.

1:24 that lead and its pitch bend/portamento (?) is very cool. Nice melody.

I don't like to criticise other reviewers but I don't understand Spudsy's response to your reply to him, which seemed quite reasonable and not all "protective of your end result".

Therefore, the following seems quite unnecessary and perhaps a little unpleasant: "However you look at it opinions, unfortunately rarely trump facts. I wouldn't have replied again but you were so protective of your end result what was the point in asking for people's input?"

Good work...
EphyMusic
EphyMusic replied 20th Aug 2015 - 10 years ago
Thank you, Static! It was a little weak before, I recently updated it after adding some weight to it all.

The hats at the beginning were not actually hats at all! Technically. They were a heavily effected drum loop.

Yes, that was pitch bent, and thank you!

I appreciate your comment!

Tidings of comfort and joy

Comfort and joy

I don't actually mind a bit of The Jove, as painful as that may be for you to read. I'm sure I used to listen to the Slippery When Wet album many years ago. It can be catchy stuff but I understand why they annoy people. I will endeavour to keep that douche and his side-douches (bandmates) out of future conversations. I'm pretty sure I saw his keyboard side-douche outside a bar in Beale Street in Memphis in 2013.

You may also be disappointed/baffled to hear I'm a big fan of Enya and have been listening to her a lot for the last few months. Good solo kayaking music.

"We too have pavement."

I thought you Yank chaps always called it 'sidewalk'. And so my American education continues...

I did actually Google 'seacrest' but finding there is a human being called Ryan Seacrest did not help explain your signoff phrase. Now I get it and find it quite horrendous. I'm tempted to find a video clip of him saying that excruciating phrase.

Now is a perfect time to mention of one of my favourite obscure words: illeism. It's only obscure (still never heard anyone say/write it)because it has a very specific meaning and it's exactly what the soulless Seacrest is doing: 'reference to oneself in the third person'. Other examples:

"2014 was a great year for Tom Cruise", said Tom Cruise.
"Ladies just love Evan Wantland", said Evan Wantland.

Yes, Jools Holland is OK and has a certain quirky charm. He's an actual musician (one obsessed with playing boogie woogie piano, that's what the style is called) rather than just some dick presenter.

I had an OK Tuesday though considered emailing you for a well wishing top-up but didn't, somehow managing to make it all the way to Wednesday.

Later, skank dater

Seacrest sends his love.

"I'm a big fan of Enya"

Enya is fine. ABBA is not. ABBA and Bjork are right out.

I may have mentioned before, I was really into Melissa Etheridge growing up. Manly? No, but even from her first album she was a great songwriter and really pulled at something inside of me. Very open and honest, and her guitar playing is rather impressive. Expressed loneliness very well.

"I thought you Yank chaps always called it 'sidewalk'."

It is a sidewalk, but we Yanks call every hard surface Pavement, not just the sidewalk. Be it asphalt, concrete, cement or true pavers.

""Ladies just love Evan Wantland", said Evan Wantland."

It's usually "Evan Wantland requires his daily rolling-pin genital abuse", said Evan Wantland. Yeah, that sounds more like something I would say.

"Later, skank dater"

I dated one skank in high school. Tally Pruit. Dumped her when I discovered she and her sister had head-lice. Dirty home situation. Shit freaks me right the fuck out! She confronted me, yelling, on the bus ride home as to why I was breaking up with her. She'd gotten wind.(I told one friend who ran their mouth) I was not intending to make it known to anyone, opting to do that over the phone, but the bitch asked for it, so I openly divulged her grossness to the whole, very attentive bus crowd. "How could you?" is what I got, and then she sat down and cried. NOT my best moment.

Evisma, through.

I salute you*, good sir.

I have listened again and can confirm that your acidic hound isn't incongruous in this track. It fits perfectly and isn't out of place in a track featuring various other creative sounds. It's just incongruous for you as I'm not sure you even listen to any music containing such sounds. They are common in the kind of genres you don't listen to ie electronic/dance kinda stuff.

You're making the flute and marimba a bit of your own kind of sound, as you did a while ago with the piano. I guess that will make a reappearance sometime - it's been a while.

"I'll give it a shot."

I'm sure you're already halfway there, living on a prayer.

This is quite possibly your best track since Hunting For Gatherers.

Yes, I do take definite pride (no '-fulness' required, that's wrong) in the wife-waking goodbye. I've recently written a list of about 15 "later...-er" rhyming goodbyes specifically to be used in conversation with you and that one was at the top of the list as I felt it was the strongest.

I seem to recall you mentioning something about your wife having to get up very early. When I came up with "later...waker", I needed someone/thing for you to wake. I guess it could have been a vomit-stained homeless dude on the sidewalk (known as 'the pavement' in the UK) but the wife thing seemed more fun.

Note how I didn't suggest that the tasty breakfast you make consists of either Dick Pie or Balls Pudding. That would be wholly inappropriate to even mention on a public forum to someone you've never met.

"Seacrest, out."

As hard as I try, I cannot figure that one out.

Later, elaborate suicide faker.

*So hard I knocked myself out, woke up a while later with some temporary brain damage and started writing this foolish greeting explanation.

Greetings, recipient of pleasant self-beatings.

"I'm not sure you even listen to any music containing such sounds."

Not really. I'd say 1/5 of what I listen to has any obvious synth in it. I could do a lot more with it. There is no automation at all. All velocity changes. I own no music that is all synth instruments. I don't dance, so all club-like music is pretty annoying to me.

"I'm sure you're already halfway there, living on a prayer."

Lets keep that Bon Jovi douche out of this. Nothing pulls my finger toward the station changing buttons faster than Bon Jovi. Maybe Bjork, but how often is she on the radio? Never heard her.

"no '-fulness' required, that's wrong"

Intended to be wrong, but I'll send the editors check in the mail.

"the sidewalk (known as 'the pavement' in the UK)"

We too have pavement. Lots of it.

"Seacrest, out."

Ah, yes. We have a soulless DJ/Host/TV Personality names Ryan Seacrest, who hosts the American Idol show, and has several other air-wave invading ventures. Guy's a total tool and at the end of everything, he says "Seacrest, out.". Makes sense you never heard of him, but since he has a lot to do with music, I thought there was a chance. I know of Jules Holland (misspelled?), but he is MUCH better at his job than Seacrest.

Have a good Tuesday. Wednesday, you're on your own.

Thanks for the vocal info.

" bummed that i could only spend one hour on this one because I wanted more things in it".

Yes, but there's absolutely no reason no to develop this track further. The competition is just a bit of fun. So, now take this track and do more fantastic things with it and reupload as a separate track ie one that took perhaps a lot more than an hour.

There's no reason to abandon this as you have made such a great start and possibly much better than I could do in one hour. I'm not sure I'd even want to try as I'd be constantly watching the clock and might not enjoy the time pressure.

Please keep working on this.

Congrats again..

Greetings.

If you really did make this in only one hour, it's pretty damn impressive.

The mix sounds fairly well balanced and I like your female vocal. Quite a dark sound but a good groove. Really quite hypnotic and ethereal.

Where is the female vocal from?

You should turn this into a full, more varied track as you have a great basis. Just try to add various small changes and fills. The basic hypnotic vibe is a cool one. I love that lead, wailing trippy synth!

Best track I've heard from you.

its from vocaloid.

Another creative track from you. That's two I've heard and two I like.

Start to 0:04 feels wrong, like the drums come in a beat too early. Just feels a bit too awkward.

Left panned drums are an odd choice so I prefer when they go nicely stereo. Then they sound great.

0:28 mid-range bassy synth is very cool and then there's another useful bass synth underneath.

0:52 very dreamy guitar part. A little bit Eastern.

1:17 crazier, reverb-heavy emphatic note that makes things more epic. A bit of a trance sound there.

Nice little ending to take things back down.

I think we definitely have some things in common musically. One notable difference is that you make short tracks and I generally make either long or very long tracks.

Congrats.

A heartfelt hello, Bass Bro.

I am here to offer you objective praise on this obviously nice track bro. Now let me focus...

First guit riff sounds like your kind of style.

0:22 it really comes alive with that mean bass tearing shit up.

Awesome change at 1:03. You've really got the sparser drum groove working well there. Riff over the top has fine timing.

1:14 your acidic hound is good but still surprising and a bit incongruous in one of your tracks. You know I always want you to expand your style and instrumentation. You're doing it here.

This chill grooving section reminds me of me a bit.

1:35 a marimba lead I've heard you use before so you're now making it your own kind of recognisable sound.
Same goes for flute at 2:00. Not a sound I'd use but works well for you.

2:29 pre-badassery, with that arriving fully 10 secs later. It's just a good riff. Some real tight playing in those pull offs. Not sure I could pull that off, so to speak. End section is maybe too short. Drums are spot on and have a vital relationship with that main riff.

I like the idea of Jethro Tool and it makes sense. End section is a bit Tooly though no obvious rip off. I'd try to extend that by 30-odd secs, adding in some other variations to keep shit interesting. How about bringing back your acidic hound there?

Overall: fine stuff that expands your musical style quite a bit.

Later, early morning wife waker and subsequent tasty breakfast maker.

"still surprising and a bit incongruous in one of your tracks."

In a bad way? Is it because you know my music so well that it seems foreign? Or would someone hearing this, who had never heard any of my other stuff, think it doesn't fit in the track? Not offended, just curious. I appreciate your thoughts.

"I'd try to extend that by 30-odd secs, adding in some other variations to keep shit interesting. How about bringing back your acidic hound there?"

Hi.

This is really well produced and some proper far out, chill out d'n'b. It does seem a bit short but you did say it's only a preview so not to worry.

I like your distant, wailing sounds in the intro - quite cold and robotic and very sci fi.

Really good stereo image in this - sounds sitting nice and wide in my headphones.

0:45 is where it starts to get good for me with that cool, slightly funky synth part. Lots of percussion going on, which is usually a good thing if it's skilfully done.

1:30 some more badass beats drop to push things along.

1:52 your first bassline! That's a fat, subby sound.

2:16 a more beautiful and melodic pad that I like.

End section chords are cool but it sounds like they should continue - probably will in the full version.

Congrats!

Binary regreetings, highly advanced computer software program masquerading online as a real world Missouri bass bro.

Damn, will I ever stop commenting on this track? Only time will tell...

Your new avatar looks good though there's quite a lot of beard and not much hair. It also looks just like Nick Oliveri, another bass player, from Kyuss, QOTSA and other bands. You have been busted, computer software, so next time choose a picture of a less well known closet-dwelling bass player.

"It's the title of a Puscifer song"

Not quite - that's Vagina Mine. I always interpreted that as a variation of "my vagina" rather than the more amusing idea of a vagina miner, like a coal miner (an idea I got from you).

Some of the Puscifer stuff is good, some really isn't. Perhaps my favourite song is The Mission - the one featuring Milla Jovovich, who sounds amazing on it.

Puscifer is a terrible band/project name; quite immature really, as is Cuntry Boner.

In other vag news, I was out kayaking the other day with a friend on a small London river and saw the following graffitti on a bridge:

neo vagina

What the hell is that supposed to mean? Is it what neo Nazis are into? Or is it some sort of advanced, super special designer vagina I haven't come across (haha) just yet?

No, mic still hasn't shown up though I've not been looking for it so that's no surprise.

I'm currently really struggling to do much good in terms of music. Not happy with my playing abilities or sound and feel like I've run out ideas on guitar. I do now have a bow for the cello but haven't started using it yet. I'm busy working on a half decent track merging some dance music you'll hate with some reasonably tasty, funky and mildly badass bass g and guit fiddle riffage.

Track will probably be called Tesseradecade. You would normally not continue listening after 10 secs of that sort of music but, as it's me, you might just give it a chance to see what it develops into (something you'll probably like).

And now I bid you bye bye

Later, anal gyrator...

10001110101--- (not real binary, but the chorus to a "Clutch" song)

"though there's quite a lot of beard and not much hair"

I keep the top cropped short for working outside. Not bald yet, but I do seem to see more forehead than I used to.

" It also looks just like Nick Oliveri, another bass player, from Kyuss, QOTSA and other bands"

Never seen him, but now I'm intrigued. I'll have to google him.

" Perhaps my favourite song is The Mission "

I like that one as well. Took a while to get the lyric "north end guinea". "The Undertaker" is awesome also. My favorite from them is probably "Mama Sed". I love the message. It's how I was spoken to growing up. Life is change, tuck and roll.

"Puscifer is a terrible band/project name"

We have a local-ish band called "Grannies Bathwater". God damn gut-wrenching name, doing "Countrocky" Country-Rock garbage. "Evil Poon" is another that come through often.

"neo vagina"

This is the work of a fucked up pedophile. Disregard and try to forget.

"special designer vagina I haven't come across (haha) just yet? "

By far the funniest pun in the history of Looperman. I laughed so hard I started to cough and nearly fell over. 85 wordsmith points for you, good man.

"I'm currently really struggling to do much good in terms of music. Not happy with my playing abilities or sound and feel like I've run out ideas on guitar."

Try to intentionally NOT sound like yourself. Not anyone else in particular, but only do things you've never done before. A cross between Mindless Self Indulgence, and Bjork.

I've heard of several artists who make up other personas or characters, and do the writing from their perspective.

You could try to do what I've mentioned a few times. Take a specific feeling or situation or incident, and try to express that feeling.

Can you write sad music? Can you translate the feeling of being hurt through music? The great feeling of a big, fat payday? The feeling before you do something dangerous? When I am short on inspiration, that's the kind of stuff I go to. May work for you, may not at all. Just something different, and different is growth if nothing else.

Over and out. Keep your eye out for brown trout as you kayak about.

Hello.

This is indeed pretty chill but also quite powerful. However, the vocals are a bit too loud starting at 0:51. They're just the right level before then.

But they're also good vocals. Whose are they?

Lots of good melody here and a warm bass sound. Quite an uplifting overall sound so maybe it's not really chill but more medium tempo dance music on the chill side of things.

Good beats.

Congratulations.

Hi. I'd never heard of the original song before so I went and checked it out and liked it. Lana Del Ray has a good vocal here.

I think you have done well as your version works just fine. It's cleanly and well produced though I'm not sure it offers a lot more than the original. It seems to be pretty much the same structure and not much of a different genre from the original.

Same vocal at the same tempo (I think) and that's what I'm really listening to. I guess I'm hard to please and was looking for something quite different or unusual.

You beats are all tight, as are your synths so you can be very happy with this working as another version.

Good work, all the same.

Hey
Tnx for the comment.
Actually I had the same problem you are suggesting with my song. it's more like another version of the song than a remix. and I think that's because I'm a rock composer, not a DJ. so I actually composed another song.

Sup, Mystery*

I like the idea of a vagina miner though I guess that's kind of a gynaecologist. Or maybe it's somebody who knows how to extract the precious resources within - diamonds, gold, sapphire - that sort of stuff. Maybe a really effective vagina miner (which totally still rhymes) is, like the fine Kyuss song, a One Inch Man. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAXGu81Rk1g

Sorry to miss out on your epic mega reply but it's your own damn fault. I always type in a separate document and then apply my favourite music making technique - Ctrl C, Ctrl V.

Damn, you're right - a faggot is a bundle of sticks, not one stick. Dumb me.

I also used to be a big fan of Dookie (not that I knew what the word meant) and still think it's a bit of a classic album. I even used to play Longview in my teenage school band (me on bass g).

Then they went all big and popular and I have no interest in anything they do. Pretty hard making lots of good songs when your formula is so limited.

"Couldn't disconnect hand from foot"

Me too, to an extent. I used to play drums a bit and even performed as the drummer for 5 nights in a theatre production of Cindarella when I lived in the tiny Gulf country called Qatar. But coordination is hard and playing fuckin fast and varying your grooves and doing accurate badass fills is so hard. And then there's complex jazz drumming, which is another awesome art.

One of a few reasons my tracks tend to be so drum-heavy is because I love quality drummers and guess I'm trying to emulate them. I love great drumming as much as any other instrument. Perhaps, in some ways, more.

Fuck me, that Tidewater accent is amazing! So damn funny.

A mild sorry for the confusing "illegal data aggregator".

I've been mining the 'later' rhymes for a while now for goodbyes and 'aggregator' was my latest so needed something to go with it. No meaning beyond that.

Later, effeminate bundle of sticks.

Hola, gerbil smuggler.

"I like the idea of a vagina miner"

It's the title of a Puscifer song. They have some good stuff,... and some not-so-good stuff. Look for Cuntry Boner. Two track EP.

"Then they went all big and popular and I have no interest in anything they do"

Dookie was their last good thing. They went pretty soulless after that. Haven't cared since.

Went for an avatar change. Got tired of the old one. It was a photo taken to show a friend how small my closet is. Can't tell now after the effects, but I'm in the tiny closet in my music-room. Not sure why that closet was even made. It's like 2' X 2' X 8'. Great place for a cigar store indian or a tie collection, but that's it.

Still no mic?

"you had a track that had a reversed guitar in the beginning"

No, I don't think you've heard any tracks of mine with reversed guitar intro. However, I had a think about that and I do have one with reversed g intro and it's a very alternative electro blues track I like.
Check it here:

Six Of One

https://www.looperman.com/tracks/detail/147997

Anyway, your track:

Effective bass joins at 1:04. A good pulse sitting behind all that noise. I could do without the scratchy noise but it doesn't ruin things.

Things build well as you change the filter on that bass while stringy synths rise and then fall away around 2:29, leaving us with more prominent bass pulse. Noise has gone now.

2:50 and you're into a cool groove. The build into it wasn't too long and it's a tight groove you can dance to.

Lead high melodic synth parts call out nicely to the listener. Good delay and reverb making this far out, slightly epic and totally my kind of vibe.

4:37 drop of the bass as some variation was required.

2:50-5:49 may be a bit too samey, as the waveform indicates (ie you can see the same shapes) but it's still a cool section. After that, I could have done with it all getting bigger and morphing into some final, epic conclusion to round things off. That's just what I would like to hear rather than a particular criticism of what you've done, which is fine work.

Congrats again.

Hi again.

Yeah must have been someone else, ive not heard this track from you, ill try drop a comment on it later. Listening as i comment :D

Hadn't noticed that scratchy noise in the background there, will need to fix that. Its not anything i put in so not sure whats going on there.

"some variation was required"
Yeah im thinking the same thing, ill need to mess around with it a bit. I dont want to go bigger though. Ill try see if i can change it up but keep the groove.
also.. "2:50-5:49" you must be hearing an extra 34 second version haha

Thanks Static!

Vag-based regreetings, my fun china.

Not much work to do at work so I'm back yet again for more chit-chat. Mostly chat plus a little chit.

I watched the Louis CK link kindly provided by The Cru Dawg and am still confused over how you damn American chaps and chapesses pronounce that vag word. He seems to be having a laugh about what I consider the standard way of pronouncing it. I've heard it mentioned on loads of US TV shows and movies over the years and I'm certain it's always pronounced exactly as us Brits say it, just with whichever flavour of US accent the character has.

Yes, "rubbers" in the UK are not really condoms. We sometimes say "johnnies". I don't but other people do, not that I know why. Here, "fags" are not homosexuals but standard slang for cigarettes though we stil have "faggot", though that's seen as pretty damn offensive. What the gay community might even call The F Word, though that's a total guess. A faggot is actually a stick so no idea why gay people ended up being called that.

"I keep hearing that Looperman was not nearly as user friendly as it is now."

Yeah, it was pretty crap. Having a waveform is useful - often indicates to me the sort of track I shouldn't bother clicking on.

But the most significant change by far is the featured tracks page. I joined 4 years ago and did and got a few reviews but hardly "met" anyone and had no idea where to start or anything. So, I stopped using it until about 2 years later. Then I met you, Crucethus, The Valve and others. It's all because of featured tracks. That helps you see what other people are saying and guarantees that other people can find your work. Without it, how would I even know if you'd uploaded a new nice track bro? Before featured tracks, hardly anyone would find my music. Why should they as it was indeed all just a big, long list of tracks in the various different (and fairly limited) genres.

I have not seen or heard of Housebound but will check it out on your recommendation.

I get your point about people who comment on my tracks with no registered "Play" from them. Thanks as I hadn't quite worked that one out.

Finally: G minor for your vagina, G maj for your vag

Later, illegal data aggregator.

Sup, Vagina Miner (still does not rhyme)

About three hours ago, I wrote a very long reply, hit POST, and got a big fat "Server Not Found". Lost it all. This incarnation shall be much shorter. I've been having connection issues and thought the AT&T guy fixed it. Negative.

The previous reply mentioned something about how I thought faggot was a bundle of sticks, and how I heard a "Geek" was someone who bit the heads off of chickens. Never looked into it.

Damn, this is a sad comparison to the original reply. It could try harder, but it wouldn't matter. Starting to resemble a lot of my Junior High School essays, when I traded studying time for a drum set. Green Day's Dookie came out when I got a shitty drum set and I learned from that. Never got decent. Couldn't disconnect hand from foot. Couldn't kick without hitting hats.

I mentioned how I appreciate the looperman site and it's as close to sitting in a room with other musicians as I can get. Sad there is only a handful of active, level headed musicians who are cool enough to talk to. I appreciate everyone.

"Later, illegal data aggregator."

I'm lost. Please fill me in.

Over and out.

Hi there.

I definitely like the sound of this chill piece morphing into a good electro groove and will give a better, longer review when I have the time.

First 5 seconds have a great tone to them and I'd be happy with that intro in one of my own tracks.

Then a cool little high lead around 0:45.

So, more later but big congrats for now...

hey Static! :)

Im glad you like it, i was worried people might think the track changes too much but that doesnt seem to be the case

If i remember right, you had a track that had a reversed guitar in the beginning too, i think that was one of your songs not 100% sure though ... not that i copied you or anything.. >_> haha

love that synth at 0.45 i use it in quite a few songs

Thanks for the feedback man! :)

Regreetings, Mr Spiv.

I'm slightly surprised you so liked my previous review (though it's always nice make someone happy). I've definitely enjoyed some of your other tracks more than this one and probably been more enthusiastic when reviewing.

I'd never heard of Tyco HotKeyz so I googled that shit. Turns out it's a keytar! Now fully Spivified with extra and extra bent circuits or something. I had a look at the instrument and don't really understand how you play it as a proper instrument as it seems to have so few keys. But it's described as a toy so I guess it just plays a load of patterns, which you can modify a bit. I'm not really sure.

"I have grown to love minimal drums in every way"

I definitely understand that.

I also get that you don't like ride and crash cymbals. Bear in mind that using them won't necessarily turn a song into a rock thing. Lots of ride and cymbal stuff in dance music. And then there's the noise, fizzy electro version of a ride. The point I made earlier still stands: taking the track up a bit by moving away from hi hat (to something like ride or crash) might help a lot and also give you the fun of dropping back down into the hi hat groove. But I may well be wasting my time writing these words and making such suggestions.

I have also never seen The Teletubbies and really don't want to but I'm fairly sure the "uh oh" in your track is very, very close to their catchphrase (I think) in that TV show.

Anyway: good track, Spiv.

Take care.
Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied 25th Jul 2015 - 10 years ago
Hello again! I'm happy that you looked up the tyco hotkeyz. It's one of my favorite bent toys at the moment. Had it in progress for about a decade, and finally got everything mounted up recently. It isn't technically a proper instrument, which is common with circuit bent instruments... they are usually less traditional after you are done with them. The patterns are definitely the focus of the keytar, but it can be played in "key" mode where the two sets of keys are a scale in the transposition that you specify. There is a upper and lower set of keys (guitar/bass). The best part though is the "wah" filter, by far. Regarding cymbals, I have used them a bunch in music before, but really I'm bored with it... not to mention they usually fill up the high ranges which I like for other more interactive musical parts. I see what you mean about dropping back to the high hats after a cymbal driven section though. I always have so much fun designing my hat hats lately, that I don't really feel the need to add cymbals. The whole discussion makes me wonder if my difficulty getting into your drum parts comes down to mainly the cymbals, and that I just hadn't figured that out. Who knows? I'll make sure not to watch teletubbies, just in case they time travelled forward and recorded the same moment that I did... Don't need to know that! I appreciate the return comment!

Regreetings.

Sorry to hear you're tired all the time. I've also been struggling this week to do any decent music after work because of pretty much falling asleep in the studio listening back to tracks.

"my creative juices are not flowing as they were"

They certainly were on this one. I'd be proud to have come up with this track.

Also part of the problem with the sharp and piercing noises is the level of the track. It's basically all too loud, as you can see from the waveform. Try just turning it all down at the end of the mix (ie the master). I assume this one must be "going into the red" ie introducing some clipping and digital distortion. Having no clipping at all will make for a smoother listen. Hey, it's not extreme metal...

Congrats again.

Yo.

I played a few tracks on here, looking for something to comment on, and yours really stood out to me.

0:23 you kick in with a cool groove and then a much fatter beat at 0:26. That's pretty badass, actually. This has some serious vibe.

1:03 intersting change.

Some of the high end white noise stuff is a bit too sharp and piercing for my ears.

1:25 cool transition back down into the fat verse beat.

This is really creative stuff.

More thoughts from me another time, provided you reply, which you didn't last time.

Sorry for not replying Mister Nomad I'm not with it much just now and not here much lately.
Very very tired due to heavy medication and my creative juices are not flowing as they were.
Interesting about the white noise stuff I'll take a listen to that.
That as I'm sure you're aware is my steam effect.
Thank you for a very positive review.
