Very articulate and interesting piece. Esoteric sounds chase and intertwine to transport listeners along cosmic highways to a destination of mystery and discovery. This is music to be listened to repeatedly to fully appreciate all its facets and kaleidoscopic images.
Full-bodied and dense sound that draws its inspiration from different origins, in any case with a convincing result and some echoes from the progressive rock '70s.
I haven't seen The Joker so can't comment on the soundtrack. But I've heard the film is great so will get round to watching it sometime, bearing your comment in mind.
Bladerunner is good but I think I prefer the soundtrack to the actual film.
WTF ! I remember getting total freaked out about some powerful superhero team ups back when I was reading comic books, like when Ghost Rider hooked up with Wolverine and The Punisher, or when Spawn and Batman got together for an ish, and even Kick-Ass and Hit Girl got in on some action together (not what yer thinkin), but this grouping has got to rank among the heaviest I remember since I've been here on Looperman. I really dig this track and dont know how I missed the first posting. I do agree there's some compression issues though so hopefully you can work that out and re-post soon. What do you think about "Warriors Three" for a band name after the Marvel group consisting of Fandral, Hogun and Volstagg?
I hope I didn't freak you out too much with this collaboration between such extreme musical heavyweights. Look out next week for my collaborative track featuring Steve Vai, Maynard James Keenan and Enya. It's something rather special.
We actually made this one about 3 years ago and were hoping to do enough for a whole album together. Or at least a group Looperman account. But that hasn't happened so I've uploaded this one here for people to check out anyway.
Warriors Three? Not a bad name but I don't love it. We suggested so many names between us but didn't really love any of them so went in the end with The Bastard Files. Because we're a bunch of bastards and we send each other audio files over the internet. A bastard file is actually a type of file ie the metal tool used for filing.
Damn those compression issues! I'll try to fix them but I've already put a huge amount of work into mixing this at various times in the last 3 years. So I can't guarantee much improvement now.
Nice of me to be able to remind of some of your previous work. Your synth contributions (ie in second half) are perhaps my favourite parts in the whole track. Or my programmed guitar parts starting 2:01.
Damn these mix issues. I need to go back and scrutinise even more to remove the problems that other people are hearing which I'm not. A bit of a challenge.
Yes, hope he finds Parallax though I might have all the parts on my hard drive. Certainly some. You did add some synth parts to that track. Mostly just wooshy background synth stuff, if I remember correctly.
Ancient Nomad, growing through division from mania.
Super cool track. Nice job all around guys. The mix sounds great up until the 5-minute mark where it does get a little compressed sounding. Still a great track.
Thanks very much. I think it's a pretty interesting and unusual creation. Not sure what happens to the mix around 5 mins. I still hear everything just fine. Shame it's not a more dynamic looking waveform. Perhaps I'm just trying to cram too many sounds on top of each other.
It's a shame that the mix seems to be the main talking point and problem here. I've worked very hard at it and feel I can hear everything that's going on in the track, which is a lot.
Not sure what I can realistically do to improve things but I'll have another think.
It's nice to hear this on the loop! Really enjoyed the few additions you've made since I last heard it. I believe I contributed the least out of the three of us. Listening again, I hear that your early lead guitar parts are in phrygian mode and now I can noodle with your riff a bit and know what I'm doing. Didn't know how to get that eastern feel till learning the modes.
As for the mix, I listened through a stereo system and it seems a bit compressed and there is some slight unintended ducking, fluctuating volume in spots. Nothing major, and I definitely enjoyed it. Especially the bass playing. Tasty shiznit there. I'll try to find Parallax, but I may have lost it when my recording setup died last year. New stuff from me soon, with vocals.
Yes, nice to hear it on the Loop. It's only taken three years for me to upload it.
"I believe I contributed the least out of the three of us."
I believe you did but those bass parts are very useful, especially the tone, which I'm not able to get.
But you know that it's the bass player's job to shut up and sit in the background, merely providing some low end and rhythm, never anything fancy. In most bands, the bass player will be immediately unplugged if he's seen or heard fingering a chord. And then made to leave the band immediately. Even if it's mid-song during a massive stadium gig.
I know very little about modes so don't know the phrygian though I have heard of it. Early lead guitar parts? There aren't any until the middle breakdown. Unless you mean The Valve's chugging early distortion.
Unintended ducking is certainly unintended. Shame about that and the apparently sub standard mix.
"Tasty shiznit there."
Yes. Whoever you got to do those bass parts can definitely play!
Yes, please find Parallax. Would be good to complete it.
As you've already worked out, there's a whole new album of Maynard lyrics to use for signoffs. So I give you:
Nice composition and overal inmpression\vibe. Not that good mixing\mastering (especially athe end and heavy parts). I personally don't like guitar tone, its flat and muddy.
I've just uploaded another version over the previous file, this time without the limiting on the master so I hope that solves the muddy, compressed sound. My mistake for previously trying to make the track very loud and badass.
I'd be interested to know if you can hear a difference. An improvement would be great!
I think the guitar you mean is the heavy, distorted stuff. That's a programmed guitar VST (Shreddage) made by Mr Valvedriver. I like it and can't tell it's not the real thing.
Yes, I like the overall composition and vibe. It's certainly unusual.
I love this track. I think I would recognize your music anywhere. You've built a powerful musical style. I like the way you blend in occidental sounds without making the track too busy.
Thanks a lot for the comment. I think I still haven't got round to answering some of your other comments elsewhere. My apologies.
Not too busy? Ha, I do sometimes go overboard with that so have to mix very carefully and remove clutter. Always good to hear it's not too busy as I like things to be busy and constantly interesting and progressive. But not cluttered. Unless it's just for a short time, for effect.
"I think I would recognize your music anywhere."
That's excellent and probably one of the main things I set out to do when I started producing my own music 20 years ago.
I guess this is much better than you think. This one truly caught my attention. The intro alone is fantastic. Gradual buildup from initial muddy sounds to brighter flashes of which the use of string sounds stands out imo. The main part is no less exciting...you never know what kind of sound is waiting behind the next corner. The use of cello which brings along middle eastern influences is no less than fabulous. Good quality drumming is also very prominent, as always in your tracks. This is undoubtedly great work and it seems you've put quite alot of effort into it. Oh yes, and I must not forget...the production is excellent !! So thumbs up !:)
Yes, I tend to appreciate my tracks more once I’ve uploaded them. I tend to get fed up of them because I spend quite a while carefully investigating if there’s anything more I can do, from fixing anything in the mix to perhaps spinning a new track out of certain elements.
So, once they’re uploaded I can listen again as if it was made by someone else, rather than thinking about the track in a studio context and why it isn’t better.
Yes, the intro may well be the best section. Fairly clean, smooth stuff there and quite a few layers, but carefully placed. There’s more going on under that lead violin sound than you might think.
“you never know what kind of sound is waiting behind the next corner.”
Excellent. That’s what I hope comes across in lots of my tracks.
“cello which brings along middle eastern influences” is my favourite bit of cello playing in this. I tried to get in more but my playing is still rather limited.
“it seems you've put quite alot of effort into it”
I sure did! I don’t think any of my tracks ever sound like I’ve knocked them out quickly. They’re generally detailed, lengthy labours of love (and frustration).
Yes, production is good but could be better in places but that’s just me being picky and rarely satisfied with anything I make.
This is quite the pilgrimage into the mystical realm. Very reminiscent of the psychedelic period by FSOL, of which I am a big fan. It's very difficult not to be transported to a world where fantasy and the unknown become a calm aural experience. Thank you for journey! Very well done!
Greetings, Mr TheNyctopian. I like the idea of a “pilgrimage into the mystical realm”. Can I do this physically anywhere (eg on foot) or solely through music playing and production?
Yes, I’ve listened to a fair bit of Future Sound Of London, especially the Lifeforms and Papua New Guinea albums. And also the later Amorphous Androgynous stuff, which I think is essentially the same guys.
I do like a calm aural experience but also one where the intensity and excitement levels get raised at certain points. I wanted this one to be a bit more exciting but couldn’t manage it so eventually gave up and stuck it online.
Thanks for your words and your enjoyment of my mystical journey.

Yeah. It's pretty cool to hear this one again. I had almost forgotten what it sounded like. It was a pretty fun little number to work on, too.
I do hear issues with the mix. We can talk about that later.
Hopefully, Mr. E. can find Parallax. I kinda forgot what that one sounded like, too.
I guess, at some point, I should probably add my contribution, huh?
Anyhow. Get a hold of me about the mixing and whatnot's.
