This is pretty good stuff, with some vibe and attitude.
I definitely agree with other comments about the drums lacking clarity and being too low in the mix. However, this actually provides a certain interesting vibe and I quite like the power of the guitars and their buzzing tone.
I can actually hear the vocals really well and don't think the guitars interfere with them. This sounds better the more I listen to it.
So, I'd say it's mostly just a drum problem.
2:15 is the biggest drum problem. They really need to break out in that guitar solo section.
Otherwise, you have a good track so best of luck with it.
StaticNomad,..long time no see buddy.
Last time I seen you we were posting on Dopetracks lol.
(which officially shut down June 2nd)
Anyways,..Im gonna work out the stems to be sent out to a couple other fellow loopers that offered a hand at the mix.
So ill be clearing out all effects/levels and such and give it a fresh start.
Glad you are diggin it man and I appreciate the kind words. Thank you.
could easily catch on if someone like Kanye West decided he wanted a new pirate thug image. Perhaps he'll be scaling ships with a cutlass between his teeth but with the blade the wrong way round so cutting his cheeks and making it uncomfortable to talk/rap. That might, just might, shut him up.
I had not considered that HypnoBassBro might be a superhero but that makes sense. I guess his main/only superpower would be hypnotising people using the awesome bass frequencies he effortlessly generates.
But let's not have him fighting Sliderman: let them team up (on hoverboards, of course). With the The Slide's shimmering high tones and The Bro's low rumble, low and high end will be nicely covered - just need a bit of middle to balance things out. And/or a superhero drummer.
I don't think it's good etiquette for musical superheroes to take out arrogant dick musicans so Sting and KWest will probably be safe. But maybe our superheroes can contract out the hits to some torture-loving supervillains, absolving the former of any criminal culpability. So, like the CIA or similar using some proxy group/private contractor for their dirty work.
A shame you don't do lair wing excavation as I don't need any natural stone outcroppings. There is no lair facade - it's totally secret and deep underground. Only inner-earth mole people can stumble across it and they don't really count.
"There was no creation"
Yes - I feel like a bit of a musical impostor with the Tool cover as I do like to get deep inside my tracks by actually playing instruments and coming up with new shit. This cover will be badass when it's done and you will see some definite creativity. But for now it just seems like I'm screwing around with someone else's already fully realised creation.
Your mention of the plasma donation site frequenters reminds me of that mad So Much Room Game post I made on doing a month of dick-sucking to test out some pharmaceutical pill offering alternate dick flavours.Shame the post has gone forever as it was one of my favourites.
Sorry to hear about your tendonitis so good luck with a month of bitch-icing and non-recording. Evening wrist ice packs sounds annoying. And cold.
"like the CIA or similar using some proxy group/private contractor for their dirty work."
Never happens. Governments aren't corrupt. Where did you get that wild idea? Take Russia. Model government. No secret murders or shady doings there.
"a month of dick-sucking to test out some pharmaceutical pill offering alternate dick flavours"
Really, how has this not been made!? If my junk tasted like "Andes" chocolate mints, I would never STOP getting head. I'd be worn down to a 3 centimeter nub, but still with the full original urethra length. Like a really short tampon. A man-tampon. A "Manpon",... that pees.
is actually my favourite simple, jokey, Evisma-specific* greeting but I decided to experiment with alternative greetings quite a while ago so it's my difficult challenge to come up with a new one each time. If you do become a hypnotherapist, or hypnotherapy CD voiceover artist, I could call you HynpoBassBro, which sounds pretty cool.
No other view on this track, just replying to your reply. Are you still scaping the land or have you got that other job yet? If you can scape/bore through solid rock, I could do with adding a new wing to my subterranean lair so that I can expand the studio. And the evil. Just a little job offer if you've got the time and the tools.
I like your Tool chaps joke - hadn't thought of that. I bet they have a Third Eye Open logo right in the middle of the ass.
"bowed cello would be nice for taking place of the vocal line"
Could work well. I've temporarily abandoned my first ever cover song production because it was getting me down a bit. Replacing those vocals is really hard - it's not just that they're great but it's more their role in the track. If you take them away, you're kind of left with just a load of cool riffage. I have also added some other psychedelic/ambient elements in order to push that side of things as it's no longer a song so needs something else going on.
Tempo has been doubled so that it's now a pumping hard rock/dancefloor synth riff-fest. And I've chosen not to play any instruments on it. The challenge is how to rearrange the original parts to make something enjoyable. No chance of being as good as the original but that's not exactly surprising. I guess that's what's kind of disappointing about it and part of the reason I don't do cover songs. I've barely played a single one since I was about 17.
"donate plasma for some extra bow cash"
One of your typical, leftfield bits of creativity. I looked up plasma donation and it said you can get something like $200 a week doing it. Not much though enough for a bow. But I could get more money for the butler's kidneys or testicles. He's not permitted to use the latter so I think they will be sold.
Things are OK with me though I've hardly played any rocking guitar in months.
Yarr, homey. (I'm still waiting for the pirate-thug thing to catch on)
"HynpoBassBro"
OOOh, and an obvious adversary for Sliderman. You know,.... there will have to be hoverboard battles, as mentioned in past conversations. Pretty sure Sting being shamed and abused came into play there as well, which still needs to happen. But no matter what, Kanye West MUST die some kind of horrible death. He's been added to the arrogant "artist" list.
"Are you still scaping the land or have you got that other job yet?"
Still landscaping till around winter. I also do not do lair wing excavation, however, I can install a professional irrigation system and create beautiful natural stone outcroppings and earthen berms all around the unassuming facade of your lair. It would look like someone lives there, and he isn't just plotting evil.
"it was getting me down a bit"
Understood. That happens to me when I'm not into what I'm recording. That Tom Petty cover with me "singing" was mentally draining, simple as it was. There was no creation.
I've never donated plasma, and I have no butlers to harvest organs from, so I settle for working overtime. I live not far from a plasma donation site, and man,.... no way. The people I've seen who have come from there, walking down the street with a bandage around their arm,.. every one looks like a junky. People who sit on their ass on Welfare and say they can't get a job. Tax dollars. Maddening.
Slow-going on the track I'm on. Not really been into it. Spend too many evenings doing the same thing, need to take a break. I may not record for a month. I have a whole room dedicated to it, so I will have to come in and dust it from time to time.
I've been having to keep ice packs on my wrists in the evenings also, so I shouldn't be playing any guitar. Setting blocks for retaining walls and landscape beds gives me tendonitis and I've got carpel-tunnel that makes everything go numb, so I gotta ice these bitches down. 15 minutes on, 45 0ff.
Hope you find your mic. I'll let you know if I see it anywhere. I would like to know if it sends you postcards in the mail from around the world.
I always enjoy your detailed feedback here, thanks for listening!
I'd love to say they're saying Fire, but in all truth it's around 5 layers and the most audible is not something I can make out fully without going back into the project.
I can't stand Christian rock or Christianity in general but this is really well produced.
I particularly like the stereo width. The very wide drums sound excellent. They have a real subtlety them. Shaker is good and the main loop has an interesting filtered tone to it and doesn't get boring.
Everything is pretty much crystal clear. Vocals well recorded.
I'm not sure I can fault this pro production in any way. And you know I always try.
To conclude: I don't think God will rule, or ever has, but the production on this really does.
Greetings, Senor Nomad :P I understand that there are many different viewpoints in this world and I'm just sharing mine :) I'm glad you liked the production though, coming from your scrupulous self that means a lot. Thanks for stopping in!
I can't really hear many genres in here. It just sounds like one. I was expecting some mad changes or genres crossovers but there are none.
Anyway: what is here is classic, haunting ambient chillout. Nice, evolving lead shimmering pad work. Sounds mostly like a single synth sound that arrives on 0:50 and then continues to the end.
It's a very consistent track that sits comfortably and doesn't really move off in any other directions. That works well for spacious chillout rather than my typical style of jumping around here, there and everywhere.
Ahh...those genres...let's just don't talk about genres...but it's my fault ofcourse....in fact I just wasn't sure whether to put this under ambient, chill out, cinematic etc. It could be anything of these, so that was what I ment.
Yeah...you're right, this doesn't go anywhere left or right or up and down, it's just strictly focused on a same type of impression throughout...it was already in the plan.:)
Anyways, thanks alot for taking a listen and comment....much appreciated!
HI. This is pretty decent but I have one structural suggestion for you:
Don't go with the second drumless breakdown at 1:40. I don't mean get rid of the section - just add drums to it (maybe some new, more powerful ones) as removing them for a second time kind of rips the energy out of the track that you've already built up.
And 2:44 brings us another drumless breakdown/outro so it's a bit too formulaic and could be made more interesting.
If you get some decent vocals, I can hear this working well as a pop song.
I am feeling the roughness here. Quite a Mean Motor Scooter type of sound.
Intro is kind of dirty trucker music. I'm sure they don't all listen to this kind of thing, though. Probably pop crap as much as the next person.
0:30 it comes alive with greater beauty from the lead guit fiddle. And you classic palm muted bass g. One of your most signaturey (?) sounds.
0:58 descending, cascading twinkly synth parts. A nice touch and a touch of niceness.
1:38 new weird bass riff in the background. Not obviously bass but it's a good bet that it is. That's generally a good bet in your music.
2:18 psychedelic busy riff. Might be some delay on it.
2:33 pushing shirt dirtier with more riffage in your veritable riff fest.
2:46 abrupt change (in tempo?) is a good one. Opens out into more beauty again.
Congratulations also in general for breaking free from those Tool chaps.
I have restarted work on my guitar-free synth-and-drums only 46&2 cover though it's hard work as replacing Maynard's voice is tough/impossible. Without it, it's right now just a bit of a banging riff fest. Fine riffs but I think I must make up for the lack of vocal with psychedelic ambience or something.
The Man Is A Motherfucker is a very possible track title, no?
Yes, I have indeed quit trying when it comes to greetings. You seem very good with it. I'll stare at the screen forever and come up with crap. Not my strong area.
"2:46 abrupt change (in tempo?)"
Yes. 140 to 90, and probably my favorite part of the track.
"breaking free from those Tool chaps."
I've actually not worn my Tool chaps in quite some time. Too many tassels, and it's hard to take myself seriously wearing ONLY them and a pair of red socks,... but there is no other way to go when I pull them out of their hiding spot.
"I have restarted work on my guitar-free synth-and-drums only 46&2 cover"
This is awesome news! A bowed cello would be nice for taking place of the vocal line. Much like Third Eye Open. Have your rowing butler go donate plasma for some extra bow cash!
The main Arabic loop is very cool. And classic - no doubt about that.
Drum groove is decent though everything does sit a bit flat ie lacking in dynamic range. Have a look at how flat your waveform is almost everywhere in the track. There's a lot you can do to give a track added dynamics and variation.
Yes, 1:47 20 2:06 is a bit of a problem.
And then the return to the main theme at 2:06 is just copying exactly the same drum parts from the first section. You could really take the track up and make it much more powerful and epic. Or just different, for added excitement.
I can explain these comments in greater detail, if you like.
Overall: there's a good vibe in this but a lot more can be done to improve it without even adding any other instruments.
Tilt your head down a little and those thoughts will magically appear:
"I guess the secret hidden lair has a dress-code and OSHA regulations."
I don't do any paid employment in my subterranean Nomad lair. It's just for music making, kicking back with all my hot bitches and putting the finishing touches to my plans for world domination. I have to come up to the surface to get paid.
"I figured you could rock some ear-buds while villaining"
When at work, I can visit Looperman but can't play any tracks. They won't play at all so probably intentionally not got the Flasy player installed or something. Helps discourage people listening to audio/watching video while supposedly working.
I had to look up OSHA and it's simply what us UKers* call 'health and safety regulations'. I have none in the lair. Well, just one: a minimum two bitches at a time (safety in numbers).
I would prefer it if your title were There Do Be Juice. Mostly because I find 'doobie' a very silly word. And Doobie Juice is making me think of someone smoking away, with juice dribbling out of the end of their joint onto their shirt. Or, someone throwing a load of half-smoked joints into a blender and making a vile drink.
The story of your title is quite similar to that of my badass track The Bigger The Fatter The Better. You may remember that was me asking my mother what sort of pastry she would like me to fetch from the kitchen. Her answer was the title.
No, Joe Cramer's cartoon burglary doesn't seem that cartoonish and is probably exaggerated by the picture being so damn small. I never saw it as that until you pointed it out. Probably looks less weird when you see the full size picture.
Anyway: I didn't have any more to say about your nice track bro, just thought I'd reply to your replies.
Take good care of thee.
*A 100% joke term I made up based around the confusing difference between Great Britain, the UK, England, Ireland, the British Isles etc. I'm well aware you American chaps have no idea what or where Wales even is (clue: it's attached to England).
"i find myself appreciating your input more than most anyone else on this site"
That's nice to hear and a few other people have said something similar. One guy's even sent me PMs a couple of times asking me to review particular tracks. There have also been a couple who have given me outright abuse for my track reviewing style quite a few times. I guess a couple of hateful/mentally ill individuals out of the hundreds I've reviewed isn't too bad going.
As regards a collaboration; that is possible though I'm quite nervous and apprehensive about such a thing as so many things can go wrong and have in the past with people I actually know. Never collaborated online or with someone I didn't personally know before.
However, after your suggestion, I had a look at a couple of short (2 min) work-in-progress tracks that might suit you (ie ones with a hip hop vibe). I found a couple of potnetially suitable ones so will do a bit of work on them in the next few days and then find a way for you to hear them. Then you can tell me if you feel inspired and can contribute something vocally. If so, I'd have to like it and then I could work your vocals into the arrangement and build the track up around the vocal plus probably try out some fun vocal FX work, add some other instrumentation and so on.
I'd be nervous about sending anyone a version of my tracks so would just ask that you don't do anything with them (and probably eventually delete them). I'd just send low quality MP3s (ie 128K) but they'll be fine to rap over.
If we do end up with a completed track or tracks, I'll always want to be able to do whatever I want with it (ie put it on whichever album I choose) and I'd extend the same courtesy/right to you. So, you can put it on whatever album/EP/mixtape of yours.
Let me know if that all sounds OK and I'll get on with finishing up these short demos and posting them online (probably Soundcloud) for you to hear.
It seems to now be your main genre. I'm sure you once told me you used to play guitar in a metal band. Did you go on a nice tropical holiday and decide that was the vibe you wanted to keep going forever? Or perhaps you've moved to a tropical island.
How about making some tropical metal?
Anyway: this is pretty pleasant, tropical stuff though I think the very start is too abrupt. Could do with some sort of intro or at least not starting right away with the vocals.
Sax seems pretty decent to me. It's a bit of a pleasant surprise and makes more sense when the kick joins it.
Overall: the vocals are a bit too much like pop music for me but the general uplifting vibe is a good one so I appreciate it.
Hey Static! First off thanks for the comment, you're always very supportive! Haha yes, I love the beach and just tropical areas in general, and living in Pittsburgh, PA. (Where i could see my breath at night on May 22nd) I find myself sometimes wanting to move to somewhere where the sun always shines and I could maybe make my music while watching the waves roll out over the shore. Now that you've got me being a dreamer, lol lets talk about the piece. I wanted the song to replicate the original in a way, so I threw in the vocal chops into the intro to do that (I'll admit, it does work better in the original, but I still liked it so I kept it in. Also, thanks for the compliments on the sax! For some reason it always sounded off to me.
In the original track, the main genre is deep house, so there is a low bass that mainly drives the piece, and I tried to replicate that underneath the pop vocals (which I really enjoy man, that girl has a beautiful voice! HOW can you NOT like it? lmao) but anyways, I'm glad that you enjoyed the piece!
Again thanks for the support on yet another one of my songs! I really appreciate the meaningful feedback and critique Static!
Hope everything is well,
Rico L.
P.s. I might take you up on that tropical metal bet.
Thanks for the kind words, always, friend. i find myself appreciating your input more than most anyone else on this site, which isn't taking anything away from anyone else, i just feel that you GET IT, so whenever you respond to a piece of work i take it in 110%. now...
the question i have is... when are WE going to collab on a track?
So, it's finally time for my actual review. Strap in as I guide you through your Doobie Juice:
Intro is cool right from the very off. Great groove and haunting sort of chromatic progression.
0:20 badass bass wahey tone with another quite different part playing really well off it. Some rapper dudes might want to spit some sick shit over that ill beat.
0:40 and you get rid of your ill beat. All part of the rapid change thing you like to do.
Back to the ill beat then back to the breakdown and then we're into a new part. Now with mbira. Melodic stuff with big chill vibes and some double kick work occasionally.
1:58 very tightly controlled new lead part. A melodic layering of elements.
2:37 some reverse stuff I believe.
Not keen on your kick in this track. I know you're mostly using the same kits as you don't have many. Sometimes they work fine but here the kick, when exposed in the breakdown sections, sounds a bit weak though pretty decent in the fuller mix.
2:57 track appears to go half tempo. A good, more spacious opening out of things plus new lead melodies.
3:36 rocking a bit more again. Grooves sitting nicely again. You can nod your head to this shit.
And mbira to take us out to the end. Plus some guitar/bass underneath. Effective cymbal to round things off with a skilful ending. Much better than just a fadeout.
A pretty boring review from me and I'm really just noting what I hear as I go back and forth and try not to miss too much.
Congrats on some good music I can't really give a genre name. It's not rock. But what the fuck is it? I just can't think of good genre name.
P.S. Yes - now I see JoeCramer's cartoon burglary.
Ahhh, out of the lair and able to listen to music again. Nice.
"but here the kick, when exposed in the breakdown sections, sounds a bit weak"
That is good to know. I never heard it, and I'm going in this evening to fix stuff, so thank you.
"P.S. Yes - now I see JoeCramer's cartoon burglary."
This make me very happy. I felt it was so cartoonish that it had to be on purpose, but I guess probably not. Cracks me up when I see his pic. It's the slanted reflection. Good stuff. Glad I'm not alone now.
This is simple but pleasant and effective romantic soundtrack work. Emotive piano parts.
It was all going well till the drums came in as they let it down a bit in terms of sonic quality. The kick is not a great sound and doesn't seem to fit with the piano and strings.
Nothing wrong with the idea of bringing in that beat but the drums need to be much higher quality, especially to complement the other parts. The rim sound is pretty decent but the kick is too loud and overpowering everything else.
More of your very short, melodic stuff but this time with a firmer beat. Kick pattern is fine but I'm not too keen on its tone/timbre. I'd just prefer a different one, that's all.
Good piano pattern and then added background noisy speech. And tribal (taiko?) drums.
Little descending piano runs as it builds a bit towards the end.
But are you ever going to make/upload here anything longer? I can only think of one of yours that lasts even a few minutes. Otherwise, they're all under 2 mins.
Surely you could do a deep, epic one lasting at least 5 mins...
Thanks, always a pleasure to read your thoughts & feedback.
The reasoning behind that specific kick is it was used in the track which was the main short film theme with the same piano track, trying to keep a consistency in the tracks.
3 Taiko drums, each with a subtle difference & some bucket drums in the background though less audible.
I have been working on some longer compositions, I would like a good 3 minutes minimum in future.
"I want to thank you for all of the honest and helpful critique"
Hey, no problem. I try to help in any small way I can. Hard to know how any feedback will be received and sometimes people may already be aware of errors/failings. Perhaps sometimes pointing them out can serve as encouragement to go fix them ("Yes, we did notice that dodgy bit").
Anyway: I don't see a lot/anything wrong here and I knew you'd keep the dubstep loop so congrats on the other changes.
I'm currently finishing updating a dual female vocal track from four years ago. It's ridiculous how many awkward audio pop edits there were in the previous version. I can't understand how I could have missed them. However, I wouldn't be surprised if no one pointed them out if I had uploaded it to Looperman. Instead, you'll soon be getting the much improved, mostly smoothly transitioned version. It's a jazz track called The Second Law Of Self Love.
Good to see you're thumb pianoing so soon after getting all thumb pianoed up. I hope you played the notes in with your thumbs rather than fingers or toes (pair of big toes is OK). And good to see some bamboo marimbaing* .
Sadly, I am not able right now to listen to your potentially nice track bro as I am at work. But I look forward to fully ingesting your juice in a few hours.
One disappointment so far is that your waveform is not shaped like a cannabis leaf. That would be ridiculously cool as I assume it would take considerable planning.
So, my crazy question to you is whether there is some strange chap (or chapette) out there who composes and records "music" solely for the waveforms it generates. The end result is actually the waveform and the shapes it creates. A strange method of making graphic artwork. Do you think this is possible?
Oddly enough, this topic has come up in a mildly related way because someone once posted one of the worst and least musical pieces I've ever heard on here. And its waveform looked so much like a dick. One reviewer even asked if the whole thing was a joke and just an excuse to post a dick waveform. I commented similarly. Unsurprisingly, I never got a reply. Probably made by one of Looperman's resident members with mental health issues.
Just some interim thoughts until I get to ingest and inhale the doobie juice.
I figured you could rock some ear-buds while villaining. I guess the secret hidden lair has a dress-code and OSHA regulations. (you probably don't have OSHA, something else for over there.)
"your waveform is not shaped like a cannabis leaf"
Racked my brain thinking of how one would do that since you said it. Not possible. Interesting thought. I also commented on the dick waveform track. I remember it.
Doobie Juice actually came from my wife asking me if there would still be lemon juice in the refrigerator, or if we needed to buy more. I checked, and upon finding it, I declared "There do be juice." The title was born.
I have never seen The Venture Brothers so I don't know if it's suitable supervillain viewing material. I'd expect some shows about world domination to be popular in an evil lair.
I'm also a superhero called Sliderman, with the ability to harness and control exceptional energy through the glass slide on my little finger. I'm surprised we haven't met in a real world crisis situation. Or at least on the superhero/supervillain forums, which tend to be dominated by superhacking heroes and villains.
I could probably vanquish you for good in a face-off but I have to think of your family. And I also want to see you progress even further musically. But I'll take out your Valve Army with the power of my slide if necessary.
"Maybe I can send you a screen shot of my synth set up"
No, don't worry. I don't know if I could reprogram that on my software synths (pretty much all in Reason) though I guess it might be possible to get close. There are shitloads of awesome sounds I'd love to have but I already have loads so it's just a matter of time until I get round to using more. I have so many synth and sample presets that it's boring to go through them. I tend to go on occasional synth preset browsing binges and that's partly why you're almost guaranteed to hear at least a few new sounds in every track I do. I'll just have to stumble upon that warm, malevolent bass sound in my own way.
I appreciate your interesting point about singing being weird. What is weird is people singing what they're saying and it often seems ridiculous but kind of fun when they do it in musicals (ie just break into song, having previously been just talking). I've kind of always wanted to use spoken word samples in my music but also don't want it to be tied to anything anyone has already made (ie the sampled speech) so I just keep it as pure self-created music, containing very few samples (apart from drums).
"At least, I think there's progress"
You're definitely progressing. This one may well be your best produced yet, hence me offering no criticisms, which is rare.
"I don't do the psychedelic drugs anymore, but I do love the music"
I've never done them but have always loved the music. Psychedelic is pretty much my main genre.
All hail the Valve Army!
P.S. I made a nice track bro dedicated to you and I've just finished one dedicated to Evisma, featuring lots of lead bass g.
"I've chosen this track as one of my favourite Looperman tracks in the thread I started a few months ago. "
I remember the thread. Thanks, man! I'm honored.
I don't know if you're familiar or not with Johnny Quest. It's a kids cartoon that came out in the mid 60's. It's about this kid who's dad is a super scientist/adventurer. His dad's "bodyguard" and a couple of his friends, and dog. They go on perilous adventures all over the world. In 2003, a couple of guys came out with The Venture Bros. It's a total animated spoof of Johnny Quest. But not at all for kids. Well, today's kids. It's totally for the kids that aren't kids anymore that grew up watching Johnny. It's full of pop culture references, sarcasm, irony, and just general funny shit. It's entirely a show that supervillains would watch. For inspiration, if nothing else.
"I'm surprised we haven't met in a real world crisis situation"
We may have. Being a supervillain, I do travel a lot. You know, heroist/villainary conventions, Seminars, and whatnot. We may have bumped into each other at one. Stranger things have happened. I suppose, though, I would have remembered noticing the energy levels of my mechanized valve minions draining into your slider, and nothing like that rings a bell.
I would suggest planning your attack on my valve army very carefully. You must take into consideration that my army is made entirely of all things metal, and metal has a tendency to smash glass with the greatest of ease.
"that's partly why you're almost guaranteed to hear at least a few new sounds in every track I do. "
I intentionally do that. I guess, I just like it when artists refer back to their own work. Also, it helps keep a common thread that, if used on the same album, keeps the songs similar enough to carry a flow that's not too eclectic. (that among other things involved)
Thanks for the progression recognition, (Progression recognition. Song title?), sometimes, I second guess my work when it doesn't come out exactly like I had planned.
I've already went and listened to 9,000 years young. I left a mini-review for the time being. I'll get back to do a proper one soon.
I get now what you're saying about the "C-Dub Productions" thing. I suppose I have to listen pretending that that spoken word part isn't in the track at all.
If you released this properly, I guess it wouldn't be there. Do you insert these in all your tracks, in case of them being stolen? It seems like a shame to have to do that every time and I'm not aware of many (any?) other people doing that.
As I said before, you have a good chillout vibe so good luck with it.
Yes, unfortunately I have to keep my Tag/Watermark in all of my tracks/beat(s). Thanks for your comment once again! Feel free to drop a comment on my other tracks.
Hi. I commented on the earlier version of this, with some ideas, but no reply so far. Oh well.
Anyway: this sounds great - really uplifting and melodic. I'd still rather not have that dubstep beat but I guess it's OK. Everything sits very tightly together and this is really classily made and mixed stuff.
Happy, blissful music that is very pleasant to listen to.
Just for a change, I won't bother with any specific details. I think I may have already done that in my earlier review.
Hey static,
Sorry man I've been so busy lately I never got a chance to respond! I took a lot of your advice (except for the dub step drum change) and it made the track a lot better. I want to thank you for all of the honest and helpful critique! I look forward to listening to all of your new tracks!
Of course you know how to operate a big crane. And you can do it with your mind. That's because you're a superhero/supervillain (depending on your mood) whose power is remotely controlling any valve-based machinery. You can assemble a worldwide Valve Army of machines in seconds. Makes up nicely for not being able to fly, have super strength or mind read.
Early on there's a sexy, breathy lady who then gets dominated by a warm yet malevolent wave of bass. Killer bass sound that I should try to make and, obviously, use.
Your spoken word guy sample is fantastic. You're good at using these samples and this may be your best yet.
Creepy horror lead has a lot of character and weird beauty.
This track sits powerfully without ever really getting too banging. But you could actually dance to it. Great psychedelic drug music.
I don't mind the dubstep snare in this whereas I hate it in a lot of crap dubstep tracks I hear. Probably because everything around it has little to no imagination or finesse. This oozes with both.
2:38 useful little break and then back with enhanced badassery.
4:07 awesome scary scream. What the hell is that?
This somehow feels quite long even though it's only 5 mins. Maybe cos it's dark and oppressive so sort of heavy listening.
Oh cool, you've fixed the ending. Now perfectly leaving us hanging on a puzzle.
Overall: best dubstep track I've heard in a long, long time.
P.S. Maybe you could do me a list sometime of some quality dark dubstep a bit like this. No commercial brostep crap.
Usually, I'm a superhero TO the supervillains. Usually we just hang out in super evil HQ's and eat tuna fish sandwiches and watch The Venture Brothers reruns, though. It's mostly fun, but sometimes it's just boring. That's usually when I start forming up my valvedriven armies and break things.
"Killer bass sound that I should try to make and, obviously, use."
Maybe I can send you a screen shot of my synth set up to give you a starting point. It would probably be easier than trying to type out the "coordinates."
The spoken word samples. I'm not sure why I like them so much better than singing. I guess because the concept of singing is odd to me. I mean, I get why people sing, but the idea of elongating syllables and altering pitch to say the same words you use to talk is a funny concept.
"This track sits powerfully without ever really getting too banging. But you could actually dance to it. Great psychedelic drug music."
Early on, in my attempts at music making, I challenged myself to make bass/beat driven tracks that just kind of steadily roll on, but never get boring. It's still a work in progress. At least, I think there's progress. Also, I love psychedelic drug music. I don't do the psychedelic drugs anymore, but I do love the music.
The 4:07 scream is exactly that. A scream. I found it on Freesound.org and knew I had to use it someday. This just happened to be the debut.
I will work on a dubstep list for you. I have a couple compilation CD's full of it. I'll dig it out and get the artist/track names for you.
...and now I'm off to eat more tuna sandwiches and watch more cartoons. (And by that, I mean eat dinner and get the kids in bed.)

Not seen your name on here before.
I like this but don't hear it as house at all. Chill out for sure and also some reggae.
I like your snare, panned right, at the start. Quite a bouncy, summery vibe.
0:40 emotive piano and synth bass parts are good and the rimshot and hat drums remind me of reggae.
Then we get a choir part that is very chilled and spacious.
2:47 choir part is cut off too abruptly.
3:18 new left panned string part arrives, then gets more centred as it becomes the lead element.
Good stuff...

Good luck with those stems you're giving to other people. I saw those offers of help before.
I'm mostly just replying to say: "Do you really know me?"
I've never heard of Dopetracks so perhaps you've got me confused with another Static. Or Nomad. Or maybe even another Static Nomad.
"Glad you are diggin it man"
I do and I know it can be be better and suspect it will turn out that way.

And cold.

Never happens. Governments aren't corrupt. Where did you get that wild idea? Take Russia. Model government. No secret murders or shady doings there.

More music coming soon.
Take care.
*Or any other bass playing bro, I guess

Something different from you but predictably good. About a minute longer than usual.
Busy right from the start with that arp and I guess it does sound a bit like computer game music.
0:30 key/chord change is a useful one.
0:48 big beat cinematic drums.
Then what sounds like a vocal low in the mix saying "Fire". Just the one sample there, I think.
I wouldn't listen to it at home but it's very effective soundtrack music.
And that's the kind of music you make so well done.
I always enjoy your detailed feedback here, thanks for listening!
I'd love to say they're saying Fire, but in all truth it's around 5 layers and the most audible is not something I can make out fully without going back into the project.
Thanks!

Thudding kick keeps the pulse like a metronome.
Congrats.
Yeah...you're right, this doesn't go anywhere left or right or up and down, it's just strictly focused on a same type of impression throughout...it was already in the plan.:)

If you get some decent vocals, I can hear this working well as a pop song.
on A Quercus Among Acers by Evisma
I bid you haha and bye bye.
Hope all is well.

But some basslines would be nice...

In fact, you've made me more greatly appreciate the original, which I first thought was decent but nothing special.
I can see how this would have been a therapeutic experience as the chill vibe is deep in this one.
I'm not really one for analysing raps so can't offer much thought there though I can say I enjoy many of the lines. "The music made me" is a good one.

Or, in your imminent case, weed down.

Otherwise, it's good but short work.
on JAweGuy - Numbers Station by JAweGuy
Thanks again!

Well done again with your chillstep track.

"I am at work"
I figured you could rock some ear-buds while villaining.
Hope all is well.

I've chosen this track as one of my favourite Looperman tracks in the thread I started a few months ago.
https://www.looperman.com/forum/thread/182742/what-are-your-favourite-tracks-on-looperman

Which Looperbro will be next? No plans right now...

Big congrats!
Sorry man I've been so busy lately I never got a chance to respond! I took a lot of your advice (except for the dub step drum change) and it made the track a lot better. I want to thank you for all of the honest and helpful critique! I look forward to listening to all of your new tracks!
Thanks so much again!

Take care, mister.
