Like your creativity ..and the nice kind of bouncy uplifting sounds...found the clap/snare panned hard left a bit unusual but its one of those tunes and leaves you with a smile...the vocal is good...agree with the comments that bringing it up in the mix a little would be a good idea...well done......Ed
Dig that acoustic intro a lot...( a bit of a Southern blues vibe to start with)....the vocal fits to a T....I wanted to stand up and cheer at that little neat key change around 1:22...subtle but most effective...unsure how to describe this one but I gotta say I am absolutely impressed my friend...its got a kind of a folky vibe and is one of those little songs that just seems to wrap itself around your mind and carry you along...something we would all wish to accomplish.....Bravo....big fav from across the water....Ed
You`ve got some dream picture painting music going on here Jamid mate...really well done and with nice production values..and most importantly,,,I enjoyed listening....been away a while so lots of catching up to do (maybe next month)...but this one was a good place to start...keep on doing it.....Ed
Hello Dear legend Ed,
How you doing, I hope You had a great holiday mate.
Thank you very much for your kind and wonderful feedback mate.
Yes, unfortunately I do know how it is not having the time to do what we want.
I am looking forward for your new track.
Thanks again.
Jamid
Nice clean mix Kingmadi...sounds nice and crisp and the vocal is on the money...The accompaniment is very minimal (which I like) so I would agree with the comments you have already about giving the bass quite a bit more prominence to bring up that lower end. There aren`t really any sounds eating up the low mids and lower frequencies so there is lots of room..well done...keep it going...Ed
Yeah...I like it.....and I see I`m way late even catching up with this one (like everything else lately)...love the acoustic intro....drums are very natural sounding (like the acoustic kit you are using) many very tasty little bits with the ping-pong delay etc to add the interest/variety...Man, you really got everything working together great in this one Evan.....thoughtful composing too....best damn piece of music I have listened to all day (and then some)...big fav from this ol boy....Cheers...Ed
songs built around a nice chord progression with rich instrumentation always seem to sound good to me...it is a bit repetitive but as you say the vocal styling can take it in different directions...nice clean mix...you do R&B well Larry..nice work on this one..good evening listening....Ed
I`m more than a little slow these days Orlando, but I eventually catch up with you...I note the little enhancements you have made in the mix, and I`m enjoying another listen...I think Steve`s comments pretty much nailed my own feelings on a first listen..it does bring with it a feeling of warm memories, a wee touch of nostalgia, beauty and lightness all at the same time....My thanks to you again and always for the privilege of sharing that talent of yours again this year..look forward to another year of making music with you that I enjoy.....Ed
Hola my friend...I can only imagine what you're going through lately, so the most important at the moment is that you fix your health problems and everything else can wait.
Therefore going slow is the way to go at the moment...the acceleration comes when you get better..:)
I'm glad you noticed little changes on the mix which I think are for the better. I'm also very close to what Steve says and what you also find to be your feeling about the song. I know it's a bit old fashioned in style, but hey, what's wrong with being old fashioned sometimes or even all of the time? To me it has some nice moments and that's what counts. Afteral it's December, and aren't we all more or less old fashioned in our habits during that time of the year...haha...wine in the title is there with a reason..:)
Thank you again so much for great musical company and friendship during this year and I'm sure there is more to come in 2017...looking forward with excitement!:)
hey mon...welcome to d` island dis late evening.....is there anything you can`t do musically...reggae of a somewhat different class to my ears as I keep getting a wee sip of something jazzy...like the moon rising on the horizon....superb musicianship by all members of the band (named Dave)..lovely clean production with perfect levels & natural placement...To say this is damn good would be a big understatement....standing ovation from up North....Ed
Hey Ed thanks buddy!...went along to a Marley concert only because a friend of my sister's offered me free tickets..they were second row dead centre, a totally awesome experience for me...while I had always liked calypso and early Jamaican styles I'd never been exposed to full blown live reggae before, became an instant convert (along with most of western youth at that time) and still am, though Dubstep doesn't appeal to me..I wonder why. haha....thanks for your kind review mate much appreciated! cheers Dave :)
Well, being a bit of a guitar addict for life you gotta know I`m loving this one...great tone and the kind of playing style that wraps itself around the vocal perfectly...nothing overstated...just the eloquent bits...I`m admiring the tones, levels & placement...and not to understate the vocal...some voices just fit the music like it was meant to be....like this one. I think the production really evidences some of the comments/advice you have made in the past Malu...particularly the concept of compression steps, with each designed to be in a particular place for a specific purpose rather than nailing the entire mix to manage levels....superb bit of work...and its a great song...the kind of melodic slow rock I could listen to for a very long time......Cheers...Ed
I also love guitar and guitar tone and I could probably spend days just recreating diferent amp tones. An amazing instrument!
There are definitely some cool tricks one can do with compressors especially if each is used for a specific purpose. Compressors are really hated on cause a lot of people missunderstood the concept behind the loudness wars and have since thought of compressors as something that's a no no when it comes to mixing. Compressing even overcompressing can yield interesting results and sonic characters. It comes down to experimentation really.
and a lovey-dovey mix it is indeed....I`ll just sit here at the back table with my glass off the good stuff and enjoy that sexy lady sing along with the cool music...like the way you kept it minimal jeffiernee and let it just wrap up the songstress in the basics......well done...Ed
I was a kind of sometimes and sometimes not Bowie fan Mykael so I don`t really recall this one ...You`ve got a nice smooth vocal delivery going so I hope you get the kind of accompaniment you want....If you get someone to do the keys & drums bit to set out the keys & beat I might be able to do the acoustic guitar for you...so long as you are not in a rush...Just have short spurts of music time these days & having to eat pain pills that slow the creative urge down....All the best with it...its really well done...nice and clean and should work into a mix real easy...Ed
Your versatility is showing again Neo...and I have a smile of satisfaction of my face when I hear an guitarist/artist use the instrument to create the atmosphere with the restrained kind of melody lines that convey the feeling/mind picture rather than demo speed on scales etc (as many do)...love that big fat kind of dark pad that introduces the track...nice patient build (a la Pink Floyd)...very cool smooth singy tone on the guitar...its a fairly minimal mix..where the instrumentation carries the rhythm with the need for anything else....This is really well and thoughtfully done man...fab job...fav from this ol guy....Ed
Ambient music is great in how it allows us to create that mind picture as you put it Ed. Yeah as a guitarist its always fascinating as to what can be done with the instrument, and in particular just with notes. Used drop C tuning here and just 3 chords - D flat minor, Sus 2 on the A string and an A caged major, and just basically picked on the roots. The last section was done by coil tapping the rear pickup with one hand while one finger sliding out the notes on the fret board. All the keys were done in FL Studio using the Sytrus VST. Synth bass track also created with FL Studios' GMS (Groove Machine Synth) with some heavy boosted frequency modulation FX.
Its always great to hear your views Ed, thanks for listen and comments my friend.
The more times I listen to this one the more I love that piano of yours Leon....and I`ve been listening every moring on my MP3 player (when I walk & try to compensate for my bad habits).....Thank you again my friend...this one would never have survived without your talented additions...Ed
Thank you so much my friend for stopping by and for your very generous words of support and encouragment....and if it's true that this track survived only because of my involvement then I'm happy as one can be, and can one get a bigger compliment than this? Or if I say it more on a joke side...should I become a founder of "Trash Bin Recovery Agency"? I would certainly be very much in favour of that idea, especially when a very particular trash bin over there in Canada is in question..:)
With much gratitude & looking forward for the next one..
I would be diggin this one no matter what genre you said it was my friend...I`m a fan of a bit of panning (I more often use m-s processing) on some of the percussion parts...like those funky guitar bits back there and the horns...Having played the ol bass for a few years my ear always catches effective bass lines like this...thoughtful composing and arranging going on with the breaks, changeups...Oh I just his that piano bit...freeking awesome...lots going on but doesn`t really feel that way as the whole trip just weaves its way through your hear from beginning to end...Great track...and I`m use to that being the case when I stop by your place....Fav...Ed
Thanks Ed, Iḿ glad this one caught your ear in a good way. I think bass is such an anchor to a tune and can create the mood for the listener. This one is a moody one and I love making tunes like this .
Thanks
Steve
Very effective/cool build into the beat...nice breaks where the ghouls do whatever evil they are doing...and they are enjoying it immensely..although the victims sound less light-hearted about the whole thing...HaHa...just a great Halloween trip Mos..and as a bonus it comes with your talent for the big dance groove....fab track mate.....Ed
Firstly sorry for taking so long to get back to you with response, suppose better late then never. wrapped you enjoyed this one was a bit of fun doing it, glad it turned out okies...Peace n much respect my friend...mosaic...
The vocal works just fine mindheist...in fact I thought it was really good...fair bit of darkness in the intro section that eases into a more dramatic mode as the beat comes it....This is really well done man...nicely structured & arranged (really liked that little heavy section towards the end)......kudos to you on the production too....enjoyed the listen...Ed
Hi Eric...not being much of a keyboard player I`m not familiar with the synth plugins you mention (been thinking of investing in a new outboard synth one of these days when I dispose of some of the current toys)....I like this little chord prog I`m hearing...one of those just good to hear & a bit addicting things..and being one who tends to compose around progressions much of the time I`m enjoying this one a lot...kudos on the production too...everything sits nice & clear in the mix...I could listen to lots of music like this...a big well done to you...Ed
Thanks, Ed. I am embarrassed to admit that I've let my guitar chops, which were never that great frankly, totally evaporate. I've got two acoustics hanging on the wall in my home studio/office and I basically never pick them up. I really should get back on that trail. I use an Access Virus outboard synth as my controller keyboard and it does sound great, but other than that, all of my instruments are virtual. I guess I compose around progressions too, but I need to learn more of them so I can get greater variety and interest in my stuff. I'm keeping a list of progressions to try out. The mix on that track was difficult and I'm still not sure if I got it right. The synth chords have a pretty good bass floor to them if you listen to them on headphones or a decent set of studio monitors, so I originally did the track without a separate bass track. Didn't sound like it needed it. Then I bounced it to MP3 and played it in my car. Sounded awful. No bass and really annoying high frequencies dominating. There's a lot of noise in the synth chord part. That's programmed into the patch on purpose I think so that it cuts through. I added 3 bass tracks and it sounded better, but I still find the high frequency content a bit much and I have tinnitus, so have some measure of hearing loss for high frequencies. So, I always worry that, for others, my mixes actually don't sound like I hear them.
No matter the subject...when you play it with feeling it always sounds good to me....something classically good about this one Mark....as always the lyrics & vocal delivery come with your signature...and thats a very good thing....With the current state of our planet its good to listen to some humour...maybe I`ll go hide all the heavier type frying pans in the house...a big well done to you...Cheers...Ed
You do it well Static...so thought It was time I stopped by for a listen to what you have been up to....and I see/hear you have that cello creativity on a roll and it sounds damn good...sorry, no deep observations from me tonight (is there ever)...just that I enjoyed the listen...flows like a deep river.....cheers...Ed
What I have been up to for the last 8 months or so is mostly cello playing and making tracks out of that cello playing as I try to learn a new and difficult instrument. I've played very little guitar (or other instruments) all year.
"no deep observations from me tonight (is there ever)"
No, there probably aren't often many but that's up to you. People only give what they want to give and are capable of giving.
I am morally/ethically compelled to give comprehensive reviews as that's what I hope for from others so it would be hypocritical to expect/hope for that but not do the same myself. Do as you would be done by.
Good to hear you liked it and enjoyed the flowing river of cello.
classic topvega...you are true to and one with the style man..and as always sounding like the seasoned rovcker you apparently are...nice thick distortion & some cool riffing on them power chords...all is well with the rock world..got my rock fix for the day...cheers...Ed
You have a great track going on here surya...its different in a very good way...and credit to you for doing it your own way...I do agree with the earlier comments on the pitched vocal....I think if you can get that working a bit better this has to be a winner...well done to you...Ed
hey ed
im glad u liked the track and thanx for the feedback.
im working on the vocals part nd i hope ill be up with the track shortly.
Have a great day.
This is well done so far Gipish...really like the instrumentation (has a little bit of an R&B vibe to it)...It was a short sample but I`m betting you will have no trouble getting vocals...your own sounds fine by the way....keep it going...Ed
That is some mighty fine noodling Nodog...the expressiveness of the playing and the flowing backing music just carries the whole thing along perfectly....doesn`t need another thing...Love the clean tone you are getting from that Tele...I have an old bandmate/friend who now lives more than 1000 miles away from here that would totally love this (I do too)...He has been into Teles since the 60s and owns/loves a couple of dozen of them (plus damn near every amp model Fender has ever made).....Fab bit of tasty playing...much ebjoyed & big fav....Ed
