Well...Leon...I shouldn`t be surprised, but this is really a superb tonic for the ears this Sunday afternoon...nice to hear the use of the waltz time sig in that first section...loved the acoustic guitar and your violin always sings the sweetest music (nicely accompanied with the cello & other strings).....You nailed that transition perfectly to marry the two parts up...nice build of instrumentation throughout..and the second part leaves me with a smile on my face....Bravo...big fav & I will be hitting that download button......Ed
You're making my day Ed...Although I well know your permanently supportive stance on my work I still couldn't
have reasonably expected such a favourable response on this particular one...so generous...and it puts smile on my face
while forcing me into state of rethinking my position on the tune. It almost ended in a trash bin to tell you the truth, but I felt some positive moments within which prevented me from doing that. And now I'm thinking...if you see it the way you say you see it, then I'm sure it must have some value...I always trusted your opinion and that's really great feeling.:) Also many thanks for the 'fav' and 'dl'...means the world!:)
Hey cej.....your backing music really kicks hip hop into a new place...very creative stuff man...as you might guess I`m not that much into the genre but I gotta say your rap comes off really well...I`m digging the thought that went into the lyrics and a big well done to you on the vocal delivery..you really keep the theme in focus...everything sits really nice and clear in the mix (and that isn`t always the case with the genre).....I`m not a fan of the profanity...but its the way the people talk...hats off to you on this one....well done....Ed
Great intro...like the fat pad and bell type sound contrast...the vocal is a little bit quiet but very effective..This is very creative music making...thoughtful composing. The cinematic genre provides great freedom do try to paint any musical picture you wish....I enjoyed the listen & you do it well....Great introduction to Looperman.
And a big welcome to you I already know you are going to be great addition to LM and when you have had a chance to comment/interact with fellow musicians I am sure you will have many more comments on your music...Greetings from the Canadian prairies......Ed
Hey Elena...this one would really get people moving at any club...I can hear it on a big club system....the old disco didn``t have a lot of those cool sounds, fx & drums you have here...I really like it & its better than most of the original disco I remember.....I this one doesn`t get you moving then you are not movable.....great way to start my day....good job lady..and the production is really good too..Ed
creative stuff you`ve got going on here Metabolic...I can`t honestly claim to be a D&B fan or know a lot about it but I know you did good work bringing this together & nailing the production values...and thats something we can all appreciate....good job man....Ed
Superb bit of musical art mindhiest....great work on the orchestral mix...it is one of those pieces of music that just draws the listener in and speaks to the inner person that we all are....paints beautiful pictures for the mind and that is not an easy accomplishment...a big well done to you...I enjoyed the listen.....Ed
It sounds fantastic Elena....very nice clean sounding mix with all instruments clear and well balanced....I notice your thoughtful work in the composition and arrangement.....This is your best yet,...and most important it is very pleasant listening....a big Well Done to you....excellent...fav for me......Ed
hey Ed
thank you much much for the kind words .
you know that your idea means alot to me .
agree with you about it , it's one of my best
:)
thank you very much again .
Hell yeah...its got something that brings back the great sound of the original R&B and funk masters that I loved...Top class man...this one would not only fit on todays radio it would grab the attention of older souls like myself who get a bit nostalgic for the great artists that brought this kind of sound to us years ago....Don`t change a damn thing...its great...standing ovation from an old guitar dude up North of you....big Well Done.really enjoyed this one...better hit the DL button, I know the good wife would dig it too.......Ed
Now you`re cooking...the vocal is great but now with the acoustic guitar you and Sunny have kicked it waaaay up there...The real stuff has always appealed most to me and I particularly like the acoustic accompaniment (even though I get lazy & just pick up the old electric a lot more often).....This is top notch guys...keep on.....Ed
Thanks, Ed. Sunny's the same way - resists the acoustic a bit, cuz she has to go into the booth and do it to a microphone, as opposed to hanging out with me and the recording engineer on the cushy couch and chairs. She also doesn't do runs and resists doing background vocals but will give in on the latter if I argue for a bit and then say, "Ok, never mind." Then she says, "Ok, I'll do it." In the end, we get it done.
I love the sound of those guitars!!! Any wonder I've become addicted to building/playing them?! :D I know I have that free album from cigar box nation saved on my music player, can't seem to find the post on there, but I'll upload it to mediafire and share it with you. You tube is loaded with videos of people playing cbgs. Justin Johnson is one amazing player I bet you'd love. Shane Speal is considered the king of them, Samantha Fish (incredibly soulful!) the queen. This tune by Red dog Guitars I love! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wz5wMGovkuQ Nothing like the real raw blues played on handmade instruments. :D Check out the site in the description, 3 string dot com for some history and info, fascinating really. I made a 3 string cookie tin guitar for the elementary school I work at now, just need to string it and some minor tweaks to set it up. Hoping to deliver it to the music teacher this week. :p How about Billy Gibbons of ZZ top on one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHzeNW_nJVY Enjoy :D
p.s. If you do build one they're more addicting than crack!!
I see you already have the Zep comparisons PK...both vocals are well done...fit nice...Ocean has great vocal character for this kind of mix (and a lot of others too I guess)....This just kind of floats you along for a great ride...I like the guitars of course...Really superb job my friend...big well done to both of you..I`ll be hitting the fav button when it hits the last note....Ed
Oh yes the great Zeppelin :p I wasn't even thinking of them when recording this. I LOVE Ocean's voice!! The voice of an angel, just like Joan Baez. I know she's on a break pursuing other artistic excursions. I'm making a video for this, floating along like in a dream, great description. Thanks Ed :D You mean the last snore? hahaha Here's some more CBG Albums (not me) for you to enjoy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDRQtBVMmI8 I'm looking for another that's a free download from Cigar box nation(dot)com. My username is the same on there but need to get more current pics up. I gave a way alot of the guitars I've made, kept my favs. I'm getting there, just cleaned up my page here now to get some albums together.
Neat track weinerbob...music that leaves you with a smile has gotta be good...good job on the vocal & the production is really nice & clean....well done...Ed
Thanks for the criticism ;) Yes, I know. but as written in the description, It is not mastered yet. At least it's just a raw hardely-mastered version of it just to show what the atmosphere of it is about, and at least it's a trial to get in contact with somebody singing on it. Sadly my friends aren't songwriting.
CitizenMofo...man..you are really kicking it through the goal posts with these tracks you are doing with Sunny...I`m usng my old Sony MDV600 cans tonight to listen (they push the highs a bit much but no hell on the lows) but the mix sounds really good in all frequencies these old ears can hear.....agree with Steve..you are going to have a super album..If I had been hearing a couple of your tunes on the radio I would have been looking for who it was done them...For somebody who claims to play nothing you sure have an ear for the composition...my old habits would likely have tried to throw in a little key variation or 2 in this one but at the same time I was enjoying it all the way...Sunny rocks and you are cooking up some good recipes with her....Ed
Thanks, Ed. Always, massive thanks. As for the key variations, so the other day at the studio with Sunny I'm like, "OK, there's this guy, Tumbleweed, Ed, on looperman, who's talking about key changes. How do you do that?" And so we talked about it and decided to look for places where we can do some key/chord changes. So - I'm learning, and someday soon you'll hear some changes.
Well, it's true, I can't play an instrument and I sing like a frog. (Nonetheless, I made an album called WWIII in 2015 where I sang all 17 songs - that was a big, dumb mistake, and I killed the album in shame as soon as I finished it.)) I've made music in my head since I was 2 but instead became a writer because words were my other thing. Young marriage, kids, raised 'em to adults, 40 years go by, and then a few years ago I started writing songs to capture the music in my head and began climbing the ladder to BETTER. Hundreds of songs later I'm finally getting somewhere, and Sunny is the magic ingredient that brings it all together. This is most fun I've had in a long, long time. It's just pure joy.
Spent several years with various format tape machines Spiv so I have some appreciation for their audio character...Maybe I repeat myself but I have much respect for the way you create..you accomplish things that not many do or could with your dedication to those synths and knowledge that few would posses .Those that describe what you do as creative and unique are on the money as far as I am concerned..hats off to you...keep on..Ed
Hey Ed, thank you as always for the kind hearted comments, and for going out of your way to listen to my stuff. I feel this drive, many times, to convince people to see even a little bit "my way." Usually it feels like pulling teeth... Hopefully I can learn to give that up eventually, except in the music itself. I've spent several weeks designing a new and unusual modular rig, and it will probably be several more before it's finished. Still it is good compared to the decade or so spent on my last one. Thanks again my friend!
I think jamid nailed it Pat...brilliant...quite complex and as always I love the way that musical mind of your composes...much enjoyed my friend..I will post Jamaican Funeral shortly...not much time around the Loop lately, but you know where I`m at if you come up with any play-along tunes....
Hope all is well....Cheers...Ed
Hello my dear friend Ed.. I spent the last 2 weeks recovering my music computer that locked up.. Got it reloaded (fun) and it's ready to go again. I loved your mix of Jamaican Funeral that you mixed, but I lost in during my computer failure. Could you email to me when you get a chance? I may have something for in the future.. Pat
Very nice Sestho...I like this one...the 2 chords repeated for quite a long time but that change at 2:15 was very effective in creating variation...You have room for a more prominent lead instrument if you like but this is good relaxing listening as it now is...I enjoyed it....well done...Ed
you're right, I have to listen to the song several times before uploading, anyway no matter all fine. Indeed, just last night I was thinking the same thing, I mean to cut guitar again a little more. OK then thanks a lot! As for the other instruments let see what I can. appreciate!
Wow....you got that big arena rock thing...but you have laid some really fine melodic rock in there...This is rock composed with a lot of thought and delivered with a big pile of talent...fabulous track my friend...perhaps your best..sounds.tone totally on the money and the production is top class..so whats left to say...the whole thing is just an excellent piece of rock music that as far as I am concerned would blow away a lot of the so-called pros...you are a pro......
I haven`t mic`d an amp for years Evan...just through my preamp or processor into the mixer...Standing ovation.....Ed
I appreciate the kind words. I spent about a month with it in various forms and with a lot of problems. I'm trying to remove the crutch of effects I've always leaned on and focusing on fundamentals. Everything I don't like about my playing is in the hands. No other factors matter. Gotta keep a guitar in my hands if I want to get better. I'm not a fast player, or really very technical, but I like the feeling of what I write. Executing it is usually my downfall.
I appreciate you stopping by. I hope all is well with you.
If you and Sunny play a bar gig in my town I`m coming by to sit in on the evening & drink a few brews...come to think of it I feel like a couple of brews right now (its your fault CM....haha)...super track guys...consistently good is hard to accomplish but I think you`re on your way...get that album laid down...Ed
Thanks, Ed. Ditto if you're ever in LA. Swing by and I'll watch you and Sunny jam. We just did guitar on two more songs last night - two more to go and the album's done (one of 'em). Just posted another one called THE THING I FEAR...
You gotta be about the most..to hell with convention...creative guy on the loop Dan..I`m glad you are not paying much attention to genres..they are totally unhelpful in the creative process unless you are trying to conform to something thats been done before.....I like the freedom of the cinematic genre...good excuse to play to whatever picture is in the mind...very creative..abstract...quite unusual....well done, much respect to you....Ed
Hey Ed. Well I always joke that I was sleeping during theory class so had to invent my own system when I started writing. But yea - I don't try to tie in with genre for most part. Having said that, I am thinking about a few steps back for next track into something more conventional with more emphasis on sweet sounds, blends, and listener's experience. Thanks very much for awesome comment. Regards - Dan
fast (with the percussion bits)....upbeat...and yet mellow (the slower main beat) at the same time...it all comes together nicely Steve..a nice mix of genres but genres don`t matter a damn anyway when it comes to letting the creativity flow.....I like the production (after just listening to a couple of over-limited mixes with a ton of highs that hurt the ears this is sounding really good)....always good listening here at your place....nicely done...Ed
I don`t think we should even think about genres when we`re trying to create so you can pick any genre you like and I`ll still think its one hell of a fine piece of musical art CitizenMofo..Rock works fine...You`re right...the lady is one big talent..and she takes us for a great musical ride without much in the way of key changes...that takes talent and isn`t often accomplished in loop land..
her guitar and vocal delivery do the trick nicely...fab job by both of you..really enjoyed the listen.big fav & a standing ovation from this old guitar guy..more please...Ed
Thanks, Ed. Means a lot coming from you. For an old guitar guy, you sure put out some juicy sounds. I just posted another one called "Working On It", which started with one of your loops as the driving rhythm engine that called forth the song. Please check it out. I'll be posting a lot over the coming weeks. Been busy.
