Pretty slick number you put together. Great beat, jazz from when jazz ruled. I see your twist with the electro styling. This music is so dance-able and upbeat It would seem to translate well in the electronic genres somewhere.
Hey wayne, thanks alot man. Its a relatively new genre, but one i really enjoy. Tons of energy like you say, great to dance to too ! Thanks for stopping by and having a listen, james
I downloaded several tunes by Kevin Macload a few years back and really appreciate his vast understanding of music making. So i knew right away the music would be well done and hearing your emotional singing in other tracks I knew this would be cool to check out. The music is very dramatic and dark, you delivered some fitting vocals for the piece.
Good choice with cinematic, i think this would be awesome in a tremendously sad point of a movie, very emotional and dynamic.
Well done, my first listen of the day, kinda stirring.
Hell Yeah!! I love anything with a latin flare to it. You have a cool idea with the intro. That in itself could be taken as song idea, keep the western idea going. But when it all kicked in I was all in for the ride.
Guitars sound great, nice tone and well played. I really liked the vocal at the end. You consider adding some more like that in the track or just the one shot? Just an idea.
Thanks Wayne, yeah good to know you dig some Latino sounds. I have sprinkled several of my latest tracks with some of it but this one is pretty much straight forward. Haha, so you even like the grito huh? Yes, I took a chance putting that in but it fits and I enjoyed doing it very much. More than one might be over doing it tho. But its after all very popular in mainstream musica Mexicana. Glad you dig it man and again Gracias for the kind words of support.
This is pretty crazy man! Music like this can adjust your attitude on the spot. I just listened to something completely different a few minutes ago and while this was playing my blood pressure went up 40 points, lol!!
Great idea overall and excellent execution all around on it's construction and mix!! Totally dig it!!
Not much to complain about here, mix sounds great and all the playing works together. I liked the slowed down break around 3:30 and the build up that followed.
Must say, I like the title and the intro. The title sounds poetic and sarcastic all at the same time, clever man. The pad you chose is great, sets the tone of the song right from the beginning. Slip sliding bassorama!! Bring it on!!
The music box works well with the feel of the track and adds a bit of mystery and suspense.
That is a time-stretched section of guitar that comes in a while later. The synth comes in for the end section, though I do hear why you heard that.
Glad you liked the music box. I really dig those and thumb pianos, but they sometimes give an eerie, demented child feel to a track and I have to use something else. It's mostly here to reinforce the piano, but I brought it back for it's own section at the end.
Hey eshar, long time no see, we miss the likes of you around here! Hope you are well.
Lots of power and punch to this, I like it, gave my monitors a workout. Quite a few different elements or sections of the song with different instruments, very interesting all the way through. The piano track was my fav part.
Hi Wayne,
thanks for the listen. It certainly seems like a long time since I made any regular visits to the site...but I hope to try and change that lol.
This is nice Dan, peaceful, sullen, and a bit haunting. The chord changes are what is the best part, that along with a simple composition, 2 instruments. You captured the feel of the Victorian age with this track.
I also think the ending was cool, leaving it hanging is a great idea. People are not expecting it to end in the middle of the run. That's good songwriting!
Think I will check out that Victorian contest, I write in 3/4 from time to time so that might be fun. Thanks Dan!
Hey, Wayne. I'm glad you liked the changes. Took a little while to work out. And then to discover it was a bit sadder in feel than I might have wanted - but that control comes with years of writing experience.
Would be awesome to have you on board with a contest entry. Let me know if there is any info or question you have. I think you have my email - but it's midisparks@yahoo.com
Crazy track man! No shortage of intensified chaotic wizardry happening here. I'm not a big listener to dnb but I must say you brought your game to the show. :)
The soft flute at the beginning and the break was totally unexpected and added a little contracst to the picture, lol!!
Totally dig the groove of this one! I think this crosses genre boundaries as well. I think your vocals are spot on with the music and the mood and feel of the track.
Certainly a good blend of genres, funk, rock and world music sound most prevalent to me. The ending is where I hear the ethnic vibe.
The guitars sound great and well played. They carry the feel of the track as it progresses through it's changes. The wah wah has the '70's funk feel, I should get one of those. The world music part at 2:00 the gits are clean and that sound is used a lot in world music.
Are you mic'ing an amp when recording the guitars? Sounds like they are, you get a real good guitar sound.
Hey Wayne, thanks for listening and commenting, much appreciated! If you would see my recording setup you would laugh, it consists of my Fender Strat with probably 2 year old strings, a "Vox Tonlab ST" multieffect (it has a built-in tube to get a warm sound), and from there I go with a simple guitar cable directly into the microphone socket of my 10 year old Acer notebook... and my sofa - where I do all the work :D . So in a way it is very analogue-ish :) ---
I use Cubase 8 to record, but I hardly ever use any of the effects on the guitar, usually it all comes from the Vox. It has a built in Wahwha pedal (or you can configure it to use as an expression pedal etc, , and the great thing about it is that I can save up to 50 settings. So if I were to play live and I wanted any of the sounds on this song, all I need is a "clean" amp, plug the Vox in and I got it. For me the Vox is great, it an do a lot of sounds and effects.
But, I am thinking of getting a mic and record the Vox through a small amp - this would probably add another "live" dimension to it.
Cool man! I just listened to a another song that chilled me out totally but this one really sets my mood right. It is very hot right now where I live and reggae music is perfect for the summer weather.
Mix sounds great, nice and clean and clear. The guitar parts all work well together. And I do like the long drawn out fade ending.
Just a couple suggestions. The vocals seem a little loud compared to the music. I would lower them a bit and add a little reverb to make them sit better in the mix.
A little Jaco influenced intro, perhaps? ;) Great vocals, adds the human element and so much intrigue to the track. Sometimes not knowing the language make for a better listening experience. Cool groove whisking me along, a cool Moroccan night.
Then the change at 2:17 kicks in and a big grin appears on my face! Almost a country feel to that section and totally unexpected. Some nice changes throughout with the steady drums keeping pace.
Hey buddy thanks mate!..glad you liked the track Wayne, the more I play my acoustic/elec bass the more I like it, I've got a few more instrument builds on the drawing board at the moment and will be starting them towards the end of our winter (too cold for gluing at the moment) ..be over at your page shortly mate, all the best Dave :)
Very cool man! The skills to learn to play this kind of music are invaluable. Playing rockabilly/rock/latin... licks are so within your grasp now, kudos! And learning the fret board a little better in the process is a nice afterthought.
I use Am so much, my favorite key for Latin and Western songs, it just has "that" feeling. The big reverb separates the guitars and sets a cool vibe. It is raw sounding, gives the listener some dust in their teeth, which is what you want to do, lol.
It's such a joy learning this style, difficult but enjoyable. I'm working on Cavatina lately but I may need a new guitar for it (if there was ever an excuse to buy a new guitar XD)
I haven't listened to any of your music in a long while, I'll be sure to swing by your page once my slave labour releases me :)
I wouldn't have expected any less from you! The drums/percussion were wicked! Pretty crazy ride through this one. As much as I liked the intensity of the drums I also liked the middle part when they broke down and simplified. Great lyrics and performed to match the music.
I think simplifying your life, taking just what we essentially need and stop being so materialistic is a great message. I've managed to not need a car or need cable tv, two of the biggest expenses adults have outside a living space. Living within your means is not promoted by corporate america and unfortunately most people fall victim, Not me.
Hey Wayne! So good to hear from you! It is extremely rare that I come across someone who also does not drive or have cable TV, and it makes me happy that I'm not a complete freak! Living around here, that is usually how it feels. Even without those things, without children, and without a couch, I am still paying the price for living beyond my means for many years. Life has so much more to offer! Thank you for listening to this and leaving your assessment! There was a decent amount of electronic percussion improv in the track, and I think that makes a good subtle difference. I really appreciate it man!
No pussy footing around with the intro. Bam, in yo face!! I like the second or so of amp noise before it kicks in, little things like that give songs a live feel. The whole first part is blazing hot, plenty of guitars and the drums kick ass.
I must admit my favorite part is the ending section. Might even make a cool intro for the song. It has a dark western feel to me, which I like a lot.
I've never been one to mix feet with pussies. They don't seem to go together, but does partially explain why teenagers masturbate using a sock. I see the connection now, thank you.
Glad you liked the second half. Static turned me on to a stretching program and this is it's first excursion. It will make several more appearances, I'm sure.
Great title! I agree with Mos, cinematic is what first popped into my mind. I picture a journey, on heavy footed yaks of course, where the monk spreads his wisdom throughout the land. Nice soundscape, has a world music feel to it.
Being denim clad he would "levi"tate to show his powers of the mind. ;)
I did think cinematic before I posted but I'm never sure and thought it might sound a bit too grandiose.
My medication and a drop of Irish had me well chilled doing this one. Glad others have seen some worth in it always encouraging.
Cheers Wayne.
Dig the guitar loop, the singing works great with it. She has a nice voice. The "flute" instrument was a cool idea.
A couple things, I thought the male voice was a bit loud compared to the female voice, by just a bit. And I think the kick needs a little more reverb. Great track man!
Sorry to hear about your Dad. Music is a great thing, in so many different ways it can a friend. Glad you are back in the groove.
I couldn't tell you the first thing about Trap but I "caught" myself listening to this a few times. sorry
I would guess that the saw synth is a big deal in Trance, it's out in force. Drums are pounding, which I associate club music to this type of beat. Sounds cool enough to me, especially the softer sounding synth at the end.
Thanks..Music really helps getting al sorted out again. Trance is not my main genre but is good for bringing emotion in dance music. I am glad you liked it!
I do like the song, commercial rock sounding track and it has a lot going for it. Singer has a great voice.
I've been wondering how much to push the limiter gain on the master channel. Using Ableton, in the mastering plugin I use, it has a limiter. I notice by turning up the level on the limiter gain will push my nice mix louder but at the same time losing some of the tracks dynamics.
I know this isn't finished but how much do you push the limiter? Is it more just feeling out the track and push the gain depending on the type of music it is or is there a certain "standard" level where dynamics lose out and loudness wins?
Sorry for getting back so late at you, for some reason I didn't receive any notifications about the coments.
Yes there is a standard for commercial releases regarding loudness. It depends on the genre of music or if it's for television then it's a totally different standard.
As for how much I push my limiter during mastering...well it depends. I don't limit more than 2 dB's. So basically I get 2dB's of reduction on my final limiter.
You could add a transient designer right before the limiter and it will bring back some snap into the mix.
One of the main problems with mixes that lose life when you throw a limiter is that they are not properly balanced and the limiter triggers all the time on transients thus killing your mix. Don't be afraid to rebalance once you put the limiter there, you do have that luxury. :)
I certainly don't miss the mayflies, it's too hot here for those pesky insects. hmmm... bugpop. Isn't that the noise they make when hitting those bug lights?
Creative as usual. Now a days we have bugs in out electronic devices. Hearing the electronic music and how you shaped it made me think of those types of bugs out for a joyride, creating some havoc for unsuspecting targets. Is this the joy they would express? ha!
Hey Wayne! Nice thought. Yea - maybe this is the bug (and his friends) that found their way into this track in FL Studio! Fortunately, after upgrading it seems bug worked itself out. thanks for checking in. Put up a new mix today - somewhat expanded. Regards - Dan.
I am listening in 5.1 on a Sony surround system. I mirror my Macbook Air through Apple TV and the web is shown on my tv which is then hooked up to the Sony surround.
I am getting some bass, most drums and singing through mostly the front center speaker. Getting some signal from my front speakers(l+r) but not all that much. Most of the sound coming from the front is centered. I use a sub woofer and that is booming the bass but I would rather hear the mid bass tones in my rear speakers than from the center channel.
The guitar and sax lead sound good in the rear speakers along with the backing vox.
Hand claps are centered in front as well, those would be nice spread wide. To me it seems a lot is front and center and the two front speakers need more in them. The vocals need a little room and maybe a bit louder, there is a lot going on in my center channel.
Thanks for your comments. I don't try to be too aggressive with the different speakers. I mix on a stereo system and when it sounds good through it, I listen to it over my SS system. Every system will be different depending on the levels of the individual speakers and room size. I know I have my rear speakers a bit louder since they are far from my fronts. I don't put anything on the sub channel, since your system pretty well takes care of that. It's fine for movies, but, IMO, it can be overkill using that channel for music, so I won't put the low end on the sub channel. I actually didn't put anything on the center channel. Your system is doing that. Sometimes if the vocal track isn't dominant enough, I will split that track between the center and the fronts.
I live in an area where the biker culture is a way of life, Daytona Beach has 2 unbelievable bike weeks each year where hundreds of thousands of people attend, it is crazy fun! I only have a motorized bicycle(my only mode of transportation) that only goes up to 30 mph but the bugs still sting a bit when they hit ya.
I can easily relate to the song and chuckle as I enjoy Scott's words. So glad he gave us another treat. His Issac Hayes voice is gift, now time to exploit it, hehe.
Dig the music. Listened to it on 5.1 and had to make a few adjustments to my system like raising the center channel but it sounded fine. Dan smokes on that sax, man oh man! Great job Franco putting this together.
Many thanks, Wayne. We always love reading your kind words and encouragement. We all love working together and it's an added plus when our musician friends find some enjoyment, too.
Cool track, reminded me of early Ministry and INXS mixed together. I like the git work along side the keys, nice job so far with that. What EZ kit are you using?
I feel your vocals could be louder or more centered, they seem very wide to me in the mix. I actually decrease the width of my vocals to about 90%. This way they are centered and more narrow in my mix. By doing this it helps to keep it from messing with my featured instruments' freqs which I pan wide. Then I use a short delay and a bit of reverb to give me the additional width in the mix while keeping the vocals centered and narrow. Hopefully that makes some sense, he.
Yeah, I can hear the INXS thing. Was never a Ministry person but I will take your word on it. I will have to look and see what Kit I am using here. I took your advice and centered the vocals more and bumped them up in the mix. I went with a more Trippy delay on them to add to the Vibe. Still not sure if it works. Drums and Vocals are my weakest spots. I have worked hard to try and be able to do okay vocals. Never really happy with them, though. Thanks for the feedback. I truly appreciate it.
