Description : Sounds of the sea and trippy acidy washes with a cool beat and some live acoustic guitar. Written in Cubase with live guitar and keys etc. The sound of the sea and birds was recorded on the beach where I used to live. After moving to the city one sunny day I was telling stories to a friend about living by the sea and started making this track.

Description : Many of you know well that Tumbleweed & Orlando collabs are pretty much well established tradition within LM society by now, and here is the newest example to reinforce that tradition. It's probably the last this year (yet never take it for granted) and I think it has (although not particularly intended) a bit of that seasonal celebrative nature, thus fitting quite well into this festive feel of December. Despite providing it's share of melancholic tones (you can bet who is responsible...haha...) it's a quite happy tune overall...and it doesn't bite, so you're all most welcome to listen and comment !... As always my sincere thanks to Ed !

Description : The spring is in full motion over here and I guess it helped me quite a bit to complete my part of the job on yet another exciting collab with maestro Tumbleweed. Most of our collab works contain at least some aspect which demonstrates something out of ordinary one or another way. This time we got a peculiar combination of mysticism and merciless attacks of soapiness (my bad....haha)....So let's listen to hear whether I'm right or not!....:) As always on such occasions, all my thanks to Ed !
Description : Hi guys another vocal from me, this time Matthias gave his blessing. It's to his beautiful return track chillout vibe. It's a tribute to my closest here on LM. My voice a few ways including, the balls to do a harmony channel too. There's 30+ shout outs, so listen up, you may here your name. It's community based and some of you play characters. Switch the fucking volume UP, it's a builder. Love the Stokesey and Cyber lines :))) Sorry girls it was a lads love in.

Great track as to be expected from someone of your calibre ! Lot's going on and the addictive and slightly disconcerting drums great guitar sound from the middle. I'm sure your mojo is still around there somewhere maybe it went down to Sainsburys for some milk ! It will be back soon enough in the mean time keep churning out these great tracks. As I remember there's a lot of great and varied idea's bouncing around in that head of your's just need to keep banging yourself on the side of the head to get the next one out which we are all eagerly awaiting. Take care and keep up the good work.
I'm reviewing this track as more of a reply to you forum post on losing musical inspiration...You've got more than a few boxes ticked musically, a lot more than the average Joe has, you can clearly project into an arrangement and get an emotive groove on, so what's the problem, not making it in the real world musically according to you, maybe that's the bane of 99% of people that ever picked up an instrument, I have no answers being in the same boat but it doesn't bother me at all, a lot of people crave celebrity but I'm guessing your too mature for that, if your anything like me you'll get plenty of inspiration from listening to the closest sympathetic instrument to your own in my case it's drums, if I hear a great pattern that's all I need.....I'll apologise in advance if this topic is inappropriate as a track review, I just don't like to see an obviously talented musician straying into the doldrums, which incidentally isn't reflected in this track, cool work!...cheers Dave
So, more detail:
Mysterious, windy, big landscape, kind of atonal synth intro rises skillfully into a good initial bass riff. Nice the way the synth decays after 0:15.
Very solid bass sound (plus playing) and the Rhodes adds vibe.
Your 0:58 merged synth sound is an excellent one that really stands out. Try using that again in another track but probably in a quite different way. See how it works over a faster groove. And the notes it's playing are kind of catchy yet also very chilled.
1:39 clangy metal rise gives things a good lift and then we're into some widdly jazz playing. At exactly 1:50 the low note at the end of the run sounds great. Then the high playing is kind of African. Reminds me a little of some of the style that New York band Vampire Weekend go for. Their first album was interesting but I've since heard some wet pop rubbish from them.
2:31 cool wah chord/note as you hit the breakdown. Then gentle fast tremoloed note as we rise back into the drums and a tasteful guitar solo, with lots of cool ambience and activity and vibe in the background. Just what I like as it adds depth but does not detract from the lead (guitar) work. Must mean it's also well mixed. Choosing appropriate sounds that complement each other is kind of also mixing. It was the only mixing there was in the early days of recording in one room with no multitracks or overdubs.
3:20 I like that lower playing as the guitar has a great, warm tone. Then I think you add two different layers of guitar over the top and pan them nicely so that all three can be heard. Great mixing there.
This is a far out, grooving, classy piece of jazzy soundscape work with lots of depth and emotion and I don't really have any suggestions or criticisms.
Enough detail?
I hope you own a mandolin, I heard some fast pickin' going on in there. I like the bass and drums on this track. Bass is so underrated as to how much fun it is to play and to how it can have an impact on the song. There are periods where the bass is simple and places where the bass is moving out. Mostly when the drummer and bass are in a groove, you can tell. Your bass playing is really good here!
Great vibe and cool sounds Rhodesy!
Wayne
Nothing wrong with samples, as long as you can bring the chops! ;-)
Hi. Nice commposed.
Loved this. Prince was a huge influence in my songwriting, as well as the whole Minneapolis scene. I can hear that influence in this work. Nice Rhodes piano. Also I like the way you incorporate the electronic with the organic. Is that your guitar playing cos it's awesome. Reminds me a bit of a more bluesy Stuart Matthewman (Cottonbelly). Great job
Cru
I was thinking. if we have the blues, but we sound like Prince, do we have the Purples?
those compliments I see sure are well deserved Rhodsey...I really appreciate the thoughtful composing & arranging that went into this one...the playing is superb (and I think that is standard fare for you)..nice to hear an instrument played with feeling and the perfect pacing/touch to fly above the usual...and then the mix is presented with quality production....guess that makes the whole thing about as good as it gets...great job...much respect to you....Ed
Incredible tribute to Prince...Sometimes the sad events inject inexplicable creative powers in ourselves and this composition might well be a very good example of that !
Great composing, arranging, playing and production...all
top notch ! Excellent !!
Compliments and respect____Orlando
First of all. RIP to Prince. Although I was no fan, he partly made modern music as it is. Your track is a nice and well created honor to him. The electric guitar is great. YOu really know how to use it and it fits perfect to the whole of the track. It never gets boring and catches oyu until the end.
Well composed
well played
Lot of good taste here
Love the sound of your Precision
congrats!
Max
Yo, Rhodesy.
This is surely the best, most classiest, confident and stylish track of yours.
Everything is just so relaxed and classy and it has a far out, deep vibe that I love. Every element is great and there's some real vibe and moody menace going on merged with the beauty.
Really sounds like a band rather than one guy so you're absolutely on top form here.
I will return to do my customary detailed review later but had to knock out these initial thoughts right now. Let's say I was inspired.
P.S. Title is a lot like The Thrill Is Gone
I liked reading your nod to Prince in this description, and I am also enjoying this piece very much! This has a nice mid-eighties fusion feel to me, which seems to be so lost on many listeners recently. The flow and the mix are very good, and almost remind me of listening to a premium cassette on a great player. The guitar arpeggiations are just exquisite. I must admit that your song inspired me within a moment. I wish that I was in a better place to create something today, as there is some kind of great vibe going on today. Wonderful journey through the whole song... with many different facets and enjoyable moments. Love it! Fave!
Awesome track! Very well composed and arranged, clean cool guitars and nice drumming style.
