Hey mate very cool track!...I really dig the orchestration you've infused into this composition, metal songs by their very character are somewhat heavy(lol)but you've segued superbly into the main thrust of the guitar riff with cinematic zeal and aplomb...I can imagine this work as the first stanza in a huge cinematic saga that would blow people's minds or just as easily be incorporated into gaming audio (with the same result)..great work on all fronts!
cheers Dave
I think when you can bring vision to your music you've actually reached the starting point of what it's really all about,it then transforms into storytelling.
I part company with my long time creative muse Salavador Dali here for his abhorrence of folk (and jazz) music,no doubt founded on a misconception that these forms represented an unsophisticated and anachronistic section of society, nothing could be further from the truth...all the culture of the world has at it's heart the voice and memories of the people and nowhere is this more personified than in folk music, and this composition is a superb example.....Such a beautiful song that transports the listener to a multitude of dimensions, you just don't get that everyday,it's a rare thing...I'm amazed,astounded..dare I say dumbfounded!..Now if Salvador had his head screwed on right he might comment.."This song is autobetrothed by it's own chastity".
To Janis and Ed..I salute you!
cheers Dave :)
I'm always amazed by your clever, deeply thought and interesting comments, Dave ... !
I agree with what you say about this misconception about folk music and the fact that folklore is the people's ancestral oral tradition, culture and rituals . Some people look down on folk music considering it as too "rustic", and tend to forget that each musical style has its origins in a previous one, just like blues was born after slaves work songs for instance .
As Ed's music's so pure and delicate, I felt I could sing about tenderness, nostalgia, nature and memories .
I'm very much honoured by your words, Dave and thank you warmly for the time you spent commenting on this song . What pleases my friends, fills my heart with bliss and I'm indeed very glad Ed and you all liked it .
cu around,
My friendliest thoughts,
Janis :)
Man...your like this big frog (not a Frenchman!lol)sitting in this musical pond where you are the King, and all the other animals and insects living there have to march past(or swim) and pay tribute to you..(I am just a fly on the wall,haha)....it's always a great pleasure listening to your music Detlef, mature sophisticated and always sexy, true fusion!..young people today just haven't absorbed enough musical history and influences to be able to produce material like this, your musical palette has gestated to a point where only the finest distilled material is released....long live the KING!
cheers Dave :)
Hi Jeff..nice fluid track man,I'm not sure if it's dubstep, sounds more like prog rock but hey what's in a genre tag if the tracks good...glad to see someone sticking up for the Loop section..keep up the good work!
cheers Dave
Ho ho! A comment by you? I'm really proud of that.
You're right : it's not a dubstep. I can't found what the style is, so i think to my self "put it in the dubstep style, so a lot of young people will can listen a good beat whithout any cliks and digital distortion and you'll get downloads and listenings" ha ha ha!
So i forgot to tell you i recently used your loops too, a very strange voice loop for this track :
Hey mate..now this is very very cool indeed!!...a totally different slant on a classic(I've always been a big Billy Idol fan,I mean who couldn't be moved by his pouting attitude infused rock! lol)..Mark really winds up on this one,(sounds like he bleached his hair, bought a half ton of chrome chain and a few skull tattoos in preparation!)haha..super sick bassline guaranteed to keep the house moving!..man you might have a club hit with this one!!!...bought a smile to my face and it ROCKS!
cheers Dave :)
thx for your comment dave...i appreciate that...
yes...im a big billy idol fan too...i always wanted to be like billy...lol...but the only thing i can do is make a weird lip like billy...lol...
yes...i think this song came out really good...
cheers...JW...
Superb intro to a real chillout session...I just love it when instruments become alive and speak through their musicians souls, this could be the segue to a much larger work I think...excellent on all counts!
cheers Dave :)
Thank you Dave, very kind words... It is truly a pleasure to be able to work with Bear/SBM! Having a blast trying new things and going places I have not traveled to before.
Hey man..I smell something cooking on that old blues stove, and it sounds mighty fine!..traditionally stylised within the electric post Mayall period(100% excellent proof!) played with an undiminished sweetness, you just can't pass this by without breathing it in and thinking..aaaahhhhhh that's gooood!
cheers Dave
Hey mate...from listening to this I get the feeling that your breaking through boundaries, pushing up the ante' and expanding the lines..non stop action that doesn't pause for a heartbeat,I don't no how you manage to do that without running out of air!...your on a roll man and I like the realness!
cheers Dave
Tight and smooth!...the real deal!!!...I'm really glad you guys are still dropping 110% proof, genuine product down on the wasteland that Looperman HipHop has nearly become...there's a visceral compelling magnetism about this track and I know what it is..all the elements are in motion, not just the beat the flow or the groove,it's all working on a level beyond mere syncopation..you all believe it,that's why it works.
cheers Dave
Hey Jimmy...Man from the opening note the sound is soooo freaking thick and juicy,a way spacey groove going on like slow flowing lava chocolate....the vocals are sounding superb, full blown articulation with excellent timbre..To be honest I'd expect nothing less from MrAbleton(and spouse!)..but I know full well the focus and attention within your music and post production work, all the subtle increments of automation and arrangement control you bring to the table make this piece totally Viva!..Conceptually and creatively a tour de force which truthfully reflect all the years of hard work that you've both put in..this music creates it's own light!
cheers Dave
Hey Keye...great groove man!...I'm digging the transition between spoken word and song,it lends a very trippy almost surrealistic quality which is very hypnotic,an absolutely classic ending that take us on one final twist of the tale, very cool!
cheers Dave
Cool track man!...some nice playing there and I do like the vocal timbre superbly balanced with a single instrument, you've obviously tracked this in one take and it has a very live small studio room tone, far from being a criticism it would be great to hear this developed into a more layered affair with the guitar and vocals done separately, however that isn't a necessity,it's very refreshing to hear some music played from the heart and with some real substance..big thumbs up! cheers Dave
Coming from you, it means more on an acknowledgement level praise alone. But for you to give 'just the feel' cred, well that's even better. Astute observations make us better... Thank you Sir. I dig the comment
If you can get some vocals that are on par with the guitar work I'd say you've got an epic tune in the making...cool tone with some righteous chuggin going on,mixing digital with real tube crunch how can you go wrong!..listening to this reminds me of watching a good boxer at work, heavy hitting and balance combined with fluid grace, nice changes as well...cool work man! cheers Planet
Hi gg...Cool sounding production you have here!...I'd be inclined to leave the synth line on a gradual fade out curve over the backbeat and layer some street noise ambience, cars, sirens etc over that.....cheers
Hey Randy......good to see you've still got that (huge)stable of Fender twangers hard at it mate!...Great tune man!...some very cool progressions and licks being played straight from the heart, this is one bad assed tune guaranteed to rock anyone's socks off...gritty,progressive,free flowing and full of attitude!....I think this tune exemplifies perfectly how a musician's expression and focus improves with age, most young wannabe producers think your past it by the time your 30 (or younger! lol)...they don't realise the refinement process one acquires being an instrumentalist....super work!
cheers Dave
Hi there Dave,
Great to hear from you. I am sorry that I am not as active on here as I used to be. I retired once and then decided to go back to work for something to do. Sitting around watching TV or making music, wasn't giving me any exercise at all. So I got a part time job at my local 'Home Depot' store. A home improvement store in case you have never heard of them.
As for the song, In addition to my Fenders, I also use my Framus, a Les Paul copy as well for different lead sounds. It was made in Germany in 1972. Some times I get ideas from other songs, or even just a drum beat will give me an idea.
Age/health will have a factor tho soon as I am nearing 69 yrs old. You maybe have seen 'Glen Campbell' on TV the other day... is going to give his last concert very soon as he has Alzheimer's disease now. He was shown trying to sing and play. He forgot some words and the chords/leads some. Sad...but we will all eventually end up with something happening to us.
There are many fine older players out there...and maybe they already had their time in the sun when they were younger. But older folks, like me in particular, love to play and record as long as we can. I can't always play a long lick without mistakes, but that is what recording is for....play a bunch of notes, then record them...then some more, etc. eventually you have a whole song done. Haha
Anyways, I appreciate your fine comments and will give a listen to see what you have up new.
Randy
Hey MrZ..every time I listen to one of your tracks I know I'm about to enter a musical version of the matter transmitter used in The Fly(maybe not advisable to look in a mirror afterwards!lol)..there's a blending going on,some part of your hind brain is definitely channelling the early years of Jazz and the echoes of those big band arrangements and interpreting them with an instinctive flair that's almost hypnotic, you've definitely got a rolling style that Satchmo would have liked I think....cool!
cheers Dave
thank you very much for the appreciated review! i always feel the slight pinch of intimidation whenever real musicians listen and review my work and that is only because of my high respect and admiration for a musicians talents, craft and the knowledge of how some musicians view my craft. You would never guess in a million yrs the source material for this song...here it is.....
sometimes i can hear things different than whats being presented by the musician and when i do, i try to translate as best as i can through my hands! Even with that said,On my keyboard controller... I did actually play the trumpets, vibraphone, bassline and string accompaniment on this track to embellish it a liitle.....if you listen closely you will hear, but in any event.....thank you very much for the repeated trips to the darkside lol...
You chickened out on some noodling?(unheard of for a guitar player)lol...oh well it's hardly torture listening to your playing now is it!(haha)..man I dig those sweet tones Jamie!especially when blended with Bear's atmospheric trails...somehow I can't see you hefting a flying V and getting paranoid your Marshall wall will collapse on you one day,or leaving your jeans in your car's engine compartment to break them in or spending $300 quid a week on hair product and wind machine extension leads.....thank God!...(ps.please do not ruin my image of you by admitting to any or all of these transgressions)
cheers Dave
Hi Dave - thanks for listening in! Flying V's now they are a strange concept. Since I would generally sit down to play -the damn thing would probably keep slipping off my lap. As for hairspray - I'm sure there are enough hip (or should that be sick) young dudes in the world to keep the producers of Narcissistic grooming products in business without me chipping in! I do however admit to inveterate noodling (it's something I need to grow out of) - on that one guilty as charged. Hope things are well with you Dave.
Whoa!..I fell asleep and my camel wandered into this magical moonlit oasis...have you had some ultra musical makeover or something,an epiphany, contact with a deity or have you had a mind meld with Eartha Kitt?..whatever the case something amazing has happened to your music,it was good before but now it's outstanding, something really has clicked within you...please don't say it was just the usual suspects..dedication,hard work and commitment.(lol)...superb work!..I'll be back for more!
cheers Dave
...dave...if you could see the smile your review has plastered on my face...
i must admit, the transformation of which you reference is, in fact, due to a healthy case of agoraphobia, bouts of unhappiness and broken heart syndrome, and a platinum record producer encouraging a scared little singer/songwriter to do the damn thing.
your assessment means more to me than almost all others, as you have been watching my progression as an artist since almost the beginning of inception. i am so very pleased that you are pleased with what you heard.
a thousand thank yous for the listen and review. i only hope i can continue to make you proud.
love.
Hey Edz...definitely different on the edge material, reminds me of some circuit bent excursions I've heard but with more cohesion..man you deserve a medal for using Reaktor,it can be a bitch of a program to get working smoothly let alone completely understanding it's workflow! lol...I think this is pretty cool stuff, very Dadaist in nature and would work well with film or stop action animation projects.
cheers mate Dave
THNX Dave
It's a very cool feeling when you post a song and get feedback that states the listener got exactly what I was trying to do. Have you tried newer versions of Reaktor? The new one is like banging your head on the wall twice the old one 20 times. Thanks again for listening and taking time to give me your meaningful feedback.
Hey there Mariah..what a super cool track!!..I just love the edginess this whole piece projects,it really has some oomph and pushes heaps of air, just great music right across the board..there's only one little issue I have with it and I find this quite common amongst vocalists who produce their own material..the vocals are way too far back in the mix,and are getting slightly overwhelmed by the percussive timbre of the track..you have a great(fantastic) voice and it should be the number one feature here, when talent like yours is on show everything else has to underscore and compliment it..excellent work,a real pleasure to listen to!
cheers Dave
Hi Janis...fantastic track!..you have a superb voice and I love the fact that you sing in your native tongue!..(there's far too many people(mainly Americans) who think English is'The'language of contemporary music)..you bring a lot of emotive presence to the table and it allows this song to breathe naturally and balances beautifully with the dynamic contours you've crafted..Splendid work!!! (I am a fan already, speaking of which...guess who my all time sporting hero is.....Jean Claude Killy! (haha, true)
cheers Dave :)
Hello Dave,
I'm happy and very much honoured you listened to my track and left a comment !! Well I was not quite sure posting French things would be a good idea and I thank you a lot for your encouraging words about it . Your message brought me a lot of joy .
Gratefully yours, cu
Janis
ps : Long live "King Killy" !! ;)
Hi there Intelligentourage...After the intro I was waiting for something to gestate and change, some sort of morphology to take place, but ended up hearing the same theme with very little variation....I like the punkish almost ButtHole Surfers type vibe running throughout the piece but unless there's some chordal progressions and sympathetic expansions within this so the track can start to gain real momentum it's going to stay very repetitive, some other instruments would help I think...keep on groovin...cheers Planet
Hey Fila...yeah man cool moves,I get the smooth layed back ambience with that progressive Jazz feel,it's almost Cinematic with those samples introduced at the end...Barry knows how to get that epic feel in his keys and they always sound great!...cool!
Dave :)
Oh I wish I spoke Spanish, then I could embellish my review with all the necessary gravitas befitting this humungo magnifico track!(pardon me if I stray into the odd linguistic cartouche....just blame the Bugs Bunny Show's influence on the young child's fragile eggshell like mind! lol).
Man,you zone into that Latin vibe like bricks and mortar,it's just so solid, apart from the signature Bilbozo guitar swagger I have to say I just love that bass line,a session bassist couldn't do any better....what I always find and love with this style of music is the ultra positive aspect it projects..when it's over you can only smile.
Hey there Twanna....what a cool flowing vibe this track has!!...I've met a lot of musicians in my life, some are great producers and instrumentalists, some talented vocalists and others excellent song writers and lyricists but it's very rare to find it all focused within one individual such as yourself...I think I'm coming to the realisation that you truly are blessed.....doing what your doing makes the world a better place.
Dave :)
Dave, you have truly touched my heart with your review. I thank my Lord continually for the gift He has given me and it means so much that you recognize it is indeed a blessing from Him.
I started exercising my gift at eight years old by writing songs with my guitar about my life. One might ask how much could one write about at only eight years old...a lot. Music has always been my way of expression. My family could always know what was going on with me by the songs I wrote. It is still that way today, but with much more vigor.
I pray you are having a wonderful week and I look forward to sharing with you again.
