on ONE SMALL STEP - BILBOZO by Bilbozo
I can remember this historic moment very well as I can the excitement I felt whenever Hendrix or anyone else of my favourite artists released a new album....I get this same buzz when I see a new Bilbozo track posted!(true!)
Ok I've given you a fair enough rap...but why should I stop now! lol
Man...I just love your Strat playing (yes it's the atavistic melancholia of a generation weaned on Pink Floyd I imagine)teamed with your sustaining humbucker tone it's just glorious,a superb production.........Many people think music is just about listening and grooving, but it's way way more than that, eventually it's about the indelible impact events have had on the composer/musician,the intellectual osmosis that ferments over time and upon resurfacing creates a true theatre of stimulus that many can experience and reinterpret themselves...only accomplished people can do this successfully, and Bill your up there on the top shelf buddy.....cheers Dave

Hey Mizz Prof....great to see a new tune from you and a very cool track I might add!...In a large(simply huge)sound stage like this one it's quite easy for direction to get slightly lost or overwhelmed, not to mention being extremely tricky to mix properly...no chance of that happening here!!!...all the small excursions are superbly audible and finely balanced giving a very organic feel with fantastic momentum,I especially like the piano tracking down the middle of the whole piece and the low percussive presence toward the final stages..lots of work went into this production and it shows..full marks right across the board, excellent work!
cheers Dave

on Bazzar- VIG WIG - Buddrumming on drums by Buddrumming
Hey Budman...some crazy stuff here mate(the Vigman's natural habitat!)..nothing but nothing beats real drums and natural percussives....just about all contemporary music is software or machine made and pretty much sucks compared to the real McCoy ..I hope you've been procreating like crazy man,the world needs plenty more Buddrummings! cheers Dave ;)

Hey Jamie...soft and sweet cruising here man,if I owned a 335(apart from taking it to bed with me for the first month(s)lol..I'd be trying to get these sort of cool tones....your going to have to let all of us plebs in on your sound secrets one day mate...and saying "go out and buy a 335" is just way too cruel! ;)

Hi Dave - thanks for listening & commenting! I think part of this particular sound was due to the fact that after my pedals ( Boost and tube screamer on very low gain ) I ran the signal through a Blackstar HT 5 Head which is a really cool amp that adds that final real tube warmth. On another note, we will definately have to do something musical in the near future!

Cheers Jamie.

on Pages of my past featuring Farisha Haque by RichieWinn
Whoa man!..primo material here....This is such a great sound and a classic example of how to use autotune properly(one amongst many other aspects I might add!)...just enough to encase it in a contemporary veneer without overly saturating or distorting the voice as is so often found in today's productions, nice one Farisha!...mind you,it helps when the vocals are already top quality though!lol...I love the guitar solo, those piezo's on your Godin give such a parallel universe type vibe with the vocal timbre it's uncanny....Every new tune I hear from you has the mark of a perfectionist...every facet is being focused on down to the smallest increment which amazingly seems to resemble something like a Mandelbrot set! ....before I forget, great bass playing!spot on in fact!...I hope all the people that have used Farisha's acapella take an opportunity to experience this track and understand what can be done once a little respect and effort is applied......Way way good

RichieWinn replied 18th Sep 2012 - 12 years ago
Hi Dave

You are so right about the autotune - it's just about right and doesn't detract from the quality of Farisha's voice. By the way have you seen this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ErpQCpmblc

No autotune there!!

Having played live for so many years (and still doing so) I find the opportunity in the studio to get it as right as it can be a bit of a holy grail. Perfectionist would be a nice way to describe it (bloody fussy and picky another!) Whatever, I'm simply knocked out with comments that refer to my productions in this way. Thank you.

All the best and thanks again.

Hey WongKi...I like this man, nice clean sounds, sharp transitions, very tactile...methinks you are using Nexus (one of my fav softsynths)it has this unmistakable presence....(I'll look dumb if you turn around and say it was a Big Mac Double Cheese keyboard or something! lol)..definitely expand this project man it's great!...cheers Dave

WongKiShoo replied 16th Sep 2012 - 12 years ago
What's Nexus? :/

Nahh just kidding! lol.. you'd be right mate. I used that and Massive..

I love Nexus but it's most definitely hindered my growth in sound design.. Why sit there making patches when there's a whole arsenal of ready-made ones at your disposal? :)

I've been trying to expand this project for the last couple of days but I've kinda reached an impasse. Running out of CPU power being a major problem.. but I'll punch a hole in it eventually though.. or just buy a better computer and start again.. lol

Thanks for stopping by man, as always, your comments are very much appreciated :)

Man first thing..thank God it's not HipHop! lol....just kidding but it's good to hear some shread for a change...I dig the vocal style and complimentary intense guitar work and the middle transition if F...ing cool!...Tasty guitar work out, some people would think this is all over the place..however we both know it's very creatively crafted with some righteous chops on display....I think the drum levels need to be up a tad to add some more bottom thump, but that's probably because a Hip Hop protovirus has somehow permeated the Looperman audio player!lol......enjoyed it!

Holy smokes!..totally,unbelievably Gary Mooreified!..Classic stuff!...a fantastic effort from all the guys,I have quite a few records from the man and damn Bill if you don't fill his shoes to within a micron...Such a blast listening to this, and even more so because it's all performed by dedicated muso's who haven't come down in the last shower....there's so much crap music 'produced' these days and not enough 'crafted' like this gem, your keeping the flame burning and lighting the way through the digital wasteland..Gary would approve.

Hi Twanna....apart from being totally stoked to participate in this great track of yours,it's fantastic just to listen to the depth of your musical skill,it fairly radiates I can tell you!....I think from a listener's standpoint it's sometimes easy to overlook the trials and tribulations that an artist undergoes before they release a creative statement about their experiences,if anything it proves that making music is a healing process within itself...I'm a fan for life!

Dave...

Again, thank you so much for your contribution in getting my point across in this track. People don't know this about me, but I am very shy. At times it is very hard for me to convey what I really feel. But the Lord has given me the ability through music and His precious Spirit, to truly express myself.

I am so humbled and honored by your appreciation, but need to give credit where credit is due. The Lord has truly blessed me with a wonderful gift and I will continue to use it to glorify Him. I know this may sound a little "preachy", but this is my heart, this is me, this is my life.

I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to work with you and hope to have many more.

God bless and have a wonderful week:)

on Hes there featuring Patricia Edwards by RichieWinn
Hey Richie..thanks to you I was lucky enough to get a sneak preview of this splendid track and I can tell since then you've done some fantastic (and very subtle)post production work...man,your like a gem cutter with Patricia's voice, nudging the highs and just rolling off the lows a fraction to present the pristine like jewel of her voice...While I don't subscribe to the notion that talent is given and heaven sent I do appreciate the focus required for delivering a performance of this standard......the real gift is in the listening....thanks man.

Hi Dave

Yes I have done a little work on the track since you first heard it and I'm really pleased to have an educated ear notice. Thank you. The analogy of the "gem cutter" works well for me. Patricia's voice is so beautiful and it's such a responsibility when constructing a track and finally mixing and mastering it. I always want to protect and maintain that timbre she has while at the same time try to make it "shine". A challenge I will never get tired of.

Thank you for your support Dave and for the recent work you did on our behalf. A true Looper professional.

Cheers

(Big expletive starting in f ending in g)cool man!....that voice is totally mint!..Damn,you could slot this straight into any play list on any radio station on any continent in any town where they like music!........it's a testament to the times we live in where the recording skills and audio expertise have rightly passed from the engineer into the musician's hands, this isn't something many people can do to this level and it reflects the commitment (and ability) of this collaboration team ..it's just a superb production from the ground up,when I listen to this I'm learning something quite apart from enjoying the tune..when the bass came in I was gobsmacked....99.9999999(etc)% perfect tone...a photographer friend of mine once said....'You can take the best picture in the world but that's only half the work, then you have to develop it to it's maximum potential'...both sides have been covered here...amazing! cheers Dave :)

Hi Dave

Always great to hear your comments and my apologies for disappointing you on the bass sound (ah, where did that 0.00000001% go?) Ha! Hey, if I came that close I am more that happy!!

I am particularly pleased with this production and thanks for commenting on it's merits. SC delivered me some quality stems and a great song. I think my job was to try to bring if forward and make it shine. Hope I have achieved that.

Thanks again for taking the time to stop by, listen and comment. It's much appreciated.

on Dont Give A Funk Saxobones by SLAPJOHNSON
Damn..I had my volume a little high..that intro blast nearly blew my f...ing ears off!lol...Hey Steve, great to see you back man!..trials and tribulations always bring the 'backbone' ;) out(for those that have one that is)and the righteous angst is dripping off the leaves on this one..I just love the vocals and lyrical content,no messin' about, straight from the heart material which clothes this piece in a tailored suit of sincerity.....since I first commented on this song slot back in the Loopolithic era I've learnt a thing or two about sound...first off the mix is great!(f...ing great actually)..without going into a long diatribe about my frequency bias, the only thing I'd change is giving a bass boost to the baritone sax, everything sinks or swims in the mid range and that's all covered superbly here, giving a bit more grunt to that big mother will create a perfect bottom water mark.......Music like most things speaks to the beholder on many levels and gives an insight often unexpected into the creator's psyche,it's why your material has wide appeal and will no doubt continue to expand according to the Big Band Theory! haha....excellonto! cheers Dave :)

Hi Dave,
I had to upload the new track on top of an old track due to the amount of songs I have on my page. Back in the old Looperman days, Mr Loop gave me extra track space but since the re vamp that privilege has ebbed into the either. I would need to delete a load of tracks just to upload a new one.
I am not fully operational at present, so this one was mixed on headphones which isn't ideal. I will boost the baritone up as this was only added yesterday after Alexander mentioned it needed one. I hope all is well with you guys in OZ and I think we are doing another collaboration aren't we?

Cheers, Slap...

on Makin me blue featuring Patricia Edwards by RichieWinn
If I was cruising the commercial radio waves and happened upon this tune I'd think myself very fortunate, dialling into my favourite collaboration team on a relatively obscure website amongst the cyber clutter that is the internet and getting this quality is nothing short of outstanding!
I just love the careful attention with which you support Pat's vocals Richie,it's just so considered and appropriate.....the way her projection is placed within the mix is superb,it's like manna coming out of my speakers...you mentioned once before how it's no small responsibility producing material that's on a par and complimentary to Patricia's skills,I can well imagine and it's very apparent throughout every composition you do....the placement of every element is almost like Feng Shui on a musical level.....the woman is amazing, the man is a wizard.....fantastic sound, totally on the sweet spot!

Hi Dave

What can I say? You give Patricia and I such great reviews and always make excellent observations with regard to our work. I am gratified and humbled at the same time. Thank you.

Whenever I listen to Patricia sing I get inspired. You will have listened I'm sure to many of her raw acapellas and felt the immense power and soul she has in her voice. It's a precious and rare gift. Each time I take on the responsibility of creating a "Pat track" I always endeavour to provide the very best I can. I am knocked out with comments that relate to "careful attention" and "Feng Shui". Yes, for me it's all in the detail and the balance and it's pleasing indeed to have some recognition of that. Thanks again.

Best regards

Love the title...who said HipHop was in decline, this track proves the opposite,I would have liked a smoother segue between the nostalgic element and drum groove..reminds me spiritually of Marcel Duchamp and the Dadaists on some levels, which is pretty cool where I come from.

Hey man..that's some smooth groove you've got going down here....love the way the sample vocals resonate throughout the composition.....there's a very slight harshness to the flow compared against the 'I'm in love' vocals and unfortunately there's only one way to fix it properly...capital investment! lol... seriously,if they had of been done through a top line Neumann M147 tube mic running out of an Avalon 737 tube pre..well the vocal boundaries would be sweet as and ringing like a bell....there's plenty of software EQ's and filters you can use but nothing beats the real deal,I only mention this because to get a great track like this that tiny incremental boost, and that feeling of real 'breathing air' it requires the best equipment to do it..it's why Hip hop samples so many old school pieces in some respects I guess...I wish I had some of that equipment! lol...excellent work!... cheers Dave

Hey man...cool sounding vibes! Pop music is something that requires an enormous skill set to produce properly, man the mix on this piece is outstanding!all the fades and synth transients are crystal clear with a smooth expressive swell of bass on the choruses...Derek's vocals are very suited to this groove and stamp it into the successful contemporary mould..if I was sitting in a professional studio listening to this in the final mixdown stage I'd be way happy...quality work that deserves high praise even more so for the fact that it's outside your usual musical prospectus..excellent! cheers Dave
