Haha, the Monday thing is kinda what I was thinkin. Though I think the snoring sound bytes'd be a bit much.
As for the drumwork, have you scoped out Splish's version of this? He added some House-esque drums to it.
As for the other song, I know of the band (really dig 'em too), but I don't own any of their stuff yet. So I've sadly never heard the song you mentioned above (atleast, I don't think I have). Anyways, glad ya dug it mate. Later on!
Hey lil bro,
Congrats on making red, eh. As for the track, well, you entered the comp so I don't needta say anything about the loop pack they gave out.
As for the rest, lately I've been trying to make my tracks more 'cinematic' (in scope, not sound/style). Messing with video related stuff at school has given me a new perspective on music. Kinda like, something might play cool, but what else? Where does it take the mind's eye when someone listens to it?? Stuff like that!
So I've been experimenting with the way I arrange my compositions in the attempts to trigger something in the listener's mind. So with this I went with a 'flying' theme and tried to capture everything that a person might experience while being in a plane (turbulence, pitching, Jet/cabin ambience, etc). That's kinda why I faded the stuff in and out like that. Glad ya dug it. Later on!
First of all, well done on getting mod status, you really deserve it. On to the track, I understand where you're coming from about feeling lifted up by this song, it's very laid back, but funky all the same, the pads fill up the song nicely and the mix is seamless.
Great stuff Donnie the Moddie.
Peace,
Helix
Thanks mate, who knew I'd end up being one, haha. As for the mix, they didn't offer that many loops in the pack so I hadta do a good bit of messing around to make this track seem fuller and in order to give it a decent length. Honestly, after the first half-hour I was worried that I'd even be able to make a full song. Anyways, glad ya dug it. Later on!
this is awesome donnie. wicked mix!
that creepy little sound pulled in on the intro n scared the hell outta me lol. wasnt expecting it. but still i loved it all the same, love the grungy little sounds with the crisp beats. you did the tune proud with this mix.
I love the freeflowing energy through it, theres still enough structure to keep the tune together but i think if it went on any longer it would atrophy to white noise!
awesome stuff!
again, good job donnie.
TJ
I hear ya mate. I've actually got this rule that I loosely follow for remixes. I take the base time and make it longer, but not going to far past double that time.
The various FX was just me experimenting and going crazy. I kept thinkin of the track's name and tried to stay true to it. Glad ya dug it. Later on!
Hey Sky, glad ya dug it mate. As for the revo, read what I wrote below on my reply to Tribal. As for the original, I've provided a link to Eshar's track page (if ya wanna check it out). Later on!
Prech that mate. As for the reverse, it's something that I've messed with before and I was wanting to do more of (for practice/perfection purposes). It's an old technique that I'm gonna try bringing back, haha. Glad ya dug it. Later on!
I won't go on about Firefighters..they all deserve a medal...period!.........This track is ripping along with some cool half steps thrown in...having read your description this will be even better when you include some Fx sirens..and general background mayhem....it's a great Techno rhythm..I've heard enough of the various electronic genres to get a fair idea of the different sub classes within it,and this baby is slamming along with all hoses blasting!...cheers mate :)
Yeah, they do. And this is my small way of giving back. Sadly, the track kinda took a back seat to other stuff that's been goin on, but I just emailed Young earlier askin him if we could pick things up again.
As for genres, well, on that one I'm beat. I don't think there's anything that this can fall into accurately. It breathes a life of its own. Just like they do. Glad ya dug it. Later on!
This is very 1969 in a way..but they didn't have synthesizers that could make these sounds back then! lol.I guess it's that ephemeral hippy trippy vibe I'm getting..swinging glass beads and all that.....great stuff!..if you ever perform this, granny glasses and a ponytail are the uniform of the day...cool! cheers mate :)
Cooool! I dunno mate, they could have, because I read that back then (in the infancy of electronica) there was a division. Between actual musicians and scientific computer nerds. On either side you had alotta experimentation going on with sounds. Off hand, I couldn't pinpoint the exact year the soundfont I used was created, but I'm sure that it's creation came about via those experimental years.
As for performances, I'm going to try to keep my shows mostly PG (PG-13 at times & R if I do Rap stuff). So all are welcome in my eyes. Lates mate!
Hi DV, I really like this track, lots of exciting elements in it, Makes me want to collab with you sometime. I liked the how this song was quite subtle, everything flowed very well and was quite smooth, even though the synths were quite powerful. I liked the almost atonal harmony at 1:30ish, gave the song a different vibe, a good vibe.
Well done to you and XxYoung.
P.S, I really enjoyed reading the desc. You have a definate way with words.
Yeah, this was started around the same time Manipulation was, back when I had just got the prog I made 'em with. The fast forward to last year and I tried picking it up again, but it felt empty. Even as intense as it is. It wasn't until I got the loops from Young that I felt that it was finally filled & ready to step out. Right now we're just in a waiting pattern for him to whip up those pads and it'll enter the next phase of it's evolution. In fact, I think the atonal harmony you refer to is one of the loops he sent me.
As for the collab, maybe one of these days, ya know. If ya got any projects that you'd be interested in seeing what I can do shoot 'em to me, cool?
As for the desc, thanks. I always try to be accurate and full with 'em. They support the song I think. Later on!
Rawk on brah. I got the loops ya sent me the other day and like last week I plan on messin around with this track during the weekend. Speaking of which, have you whipped up anything new for this? Oh, and lemme know if ya want me to send you some of the loops from my side of this. Later on!
your description is almost as epic as this track! you may have invented a new genre, "mad collab" i'll be looking for the finished product! nice one,
neil
Haha, thanks Neil. I always try to hit it on the head with the descs. As for the track, I figured I should try to go big considering it's name. Glad ya dug it. Later on!
Hey CG,
Thanks mate, yeah, I'm with you there. I've got it in mind for Young to do the high end stuff (like the pads) and I was gonna go n add some more basses & such. Will post in the forums when this is done. Lates!
Hell if I had of given you a working brief that stated...."I want you to imagine a sound track that portrays black turn of the century mine workers toiling away in Stygian murderous conditions with overtones of industrial Hell"..you couldn't have come up with a better result...this is damn freaky...not that I can be scared easily..but it's easy to say sitting here reviewing from my comfortable computer chair...if I was down the mine and some joker put this on(not mentioning any names)..it would freak the hell out of me!....this track feels like 3 miles of rock bearing down above your head..it's quite intimidating 10/10 not for the faint of heart lol..cheers mate :)
It's funny that you mention that because just the other day I was watching 'October Sky' (I think that's the name) with Jake Gyllenhaal and the scene where they were down in the mine all hunched over kinda reminded me of what you said here. I think my vision when I was doing this was kinda trying to capture the feeling of standing on the edge of a giant precipice underground and the chasm would be so deep that it'd be pitch black. Then I remembered the 3rd Indiana Jones movie where he was on the final test (the leap of faith) and he had to try to walk across air over the bottomless crack. Oddly enough earth doesn't scare me as much as being really deep underwater. Anywho, glad ya dug it mate. Later on!
Thanks mate. I just got done listening to one of Butcher's tracks that had a very similar vibe. Lament, I think it's called. If ya wanna check out another nice one. L&R!
love the chords!
this sound you got going is awesome! very relaxing and really pleasant on the ears, i could deffs listen to this for ages... possibly while im cooking LOL, nest time i do i will play this hehehehe on repeat....
Prech that mate. I don't play live insts' often, but there are those rare ocassions where the desire to mess with 'em overwhelms me. And stuff like this is made. I see what yer saying coz this is kinda like a track for all seasons (or locations, haha). Thanks again. Lates!
Sweetnees! Lemme know before ya start so I can punch up my old hard drive to give you the loop list (and provide any additional loops I used that aren't on the site). Later on!
Cool effects and sounds, builds plenty of imagery as I listen. like the dark vox rap and beats. Sounds great-it would be way cool to hear former 22catch laying something on this as well, but plays fine as is. Kudos man!
Thanks Kook, I too am keener of the bassier vox than I am the high one. Catch's good, but I dunno if he'd wanna mess with this, speaking style-wise. Glad ya enjoyed. L&R!
Nice take on it mate... love the FX and deep/high pitched vocals...definitely would be a good idea to get a couple of other rappers on there..nice experiment D!
Thanks brah. I'm thinkin that if there are other rappers on this I'll do something different for each of 'em. Adding different effects to each. Later on matey!
I hear ya (and agree). And I was lucky enough to be able to score this before the site added the 'enable download' choice ages ago. Can't recall when I started mixing this, but I remember that once the vox were laid I wanted others to rap on it too. As for Screw, I wasn't trying to directly immitate him, but was just thinkin of his style and tried to take it in a similar Funky direction. As for rap, it's like music production and just takes practice (and pointers). It's kinda hard, but given enough time you'd be surprized at what you can do. As for the comparison, I'd have to agree in the remix's unfinished state. Though all I ever try to do with my basic remixes is to make it just as cool as the original (however modified and stretched out). Glad ya dug it. L&R!
Very cool start to this. Has a resident evil soundtrack type of sound to it. Wild vocal FX. I don't really care for rap and almost didn't listen to this. I'm glad I did. Very neat. But also very amusing.
Thanks, vocally I try to be a jester (like you do sometimes too). And even when I'm being semi-serious I try to joke about something (like how I didn't know what held the Snake on the flag- kinda serving as the Yuppie's guide to their culture). As for Rap, I feel you. There's some I like, some I don't, but yer always in good hands with me because I'm an insane outsider there. L&R!
Thanks Gizza,
The downside to the this one is that back then I didn't know that I could save the different effects pre-sets I had used so when I tried to edit a part near the butt-end of the vocals it gave me such a hard time trying to emulate the FX used on the others that I just gave up and reverted back to what I had recorded before.
Songwise, I didn't really want to change it too much. Just slow it down and add effects that would make is sound spaced-out (like being played outside in an alley as the dirty deeds are done and the car screeches away).
Lyrically, they kind of don't fit, but I wanted to make it a story about friendship and how when the sh*t hits the fan you've always got that to fall back and count on (with true friends, atleast). So it's kinda like a mix between the films Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels with Menace 2 Society. Glad ya dug it, L&R!
Yeah mate. I'll probably try my hand at this again, but I don't think that I'll use the same loop. There's actually one that I like more (and think I can do more with) that I'll go with. L&R!
Coolness mang. If ya want some super busy samples you should go to the site that I went to and made Robogasm/Overdrive with the stuff I found there. There's another wicked sample site that I can't remember the name of (I think it's Freeloops.com, but not 100 % on it). No wait, I think it's Flashkit.com, yeah, I'm pretty sure that's it. Check 'em both out, coz they've got some decent stuff. Okies, I'm outtie. Lemme know when ya drop some new chunes.
Mucho prech for all of those nifty suggestions. I'll keep 'em in mind if I ever try to do this again. I was kinda thinkin similar at the end of this where I staggered the loops. I thought the beat sounded bas @$$ that way. L&R!

I think it could use some drums, but not in the standard 4/4 way.
What is that song...
Still Dreaming - Astral Projection
All time favorite ambient trance track. I think it goes something like
(k=kick/c=clap/h=hat)
K - - K - - - H - C
Put some sounds of you snoring in it, then saying... "Damn... monday already?"
Great track!

I am not liking all the fading in and out of drums and when those chords fade in and out.
I like the drum beat though

A bit much on the vocals, but I still like it! Not DJ screw just yet... that guy is unimaginably listenable and awesome... Agreed tho..
I would blast somebody witha raw banana to this track, the whole time screaming DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!
I like your rendition, but the original is still in my mind...
I suppose... I would do vocals, but... I can't rap very well.. I would just cuss a lot and rip off X-Raided...
