Ok, so the track was......um, crazy. But, im down for f-ing up space cats with plastic wrap! Lol j/k I would "F" them up with Play-do. Makes no sense, but that was what I was going for!
Haha@Play-doh. Did you accidentally ever taste it? Like I remember one time I was playin with it right before lunch one day @ school. And it was 'Burger & Fries' day. Anyways, that sh*t is so nasty that I could taste it on my hands (even after washing 'em) and wasn't able to eat Fries for a couple of years after that. F***ing gross man!
Anyways, glad ya thought it was crazy. Later on!
I'm reading Dune right now, haven't got round to watching the film but I've played the old game, it's good stuff.
Lots of nice patterns in this one, very dirty sounding in places, which is why the contrast with the clean drums is nice.
It felt a bit out of time in places, but for a first try it's fantastic.
Looking forward to hearing more.
That's cool mate. There are so many books in that series it's hard to say which is the best. Though I will highly recommend that ya check out the Dune Prequels (written by Frank's son and this other novelist guy). I've got 'em all though I've only read half of them so far.
Of the films, I highly recommend the first one that came out in the 80s (the Sci-Fi channel did it too, but it just didn,t have the same vibe).
Yeah, the drums didn't quite fit because I added them second (prolly shoulda been first, but it's cool I guess). Kinda just wanted to put 'em there for reference. The keys were my main focus and I tried havin 'em be as different as night and day. Glad ya dug it. Later on!
Be careful, I had one key fall of my nanokey and I had to tape it back on. Also I have an Nes max controller but it doesn't work right, also I think that the NES Advantage arcade controller has a better turbo that is even adjustable.
Yeah mate, I hear ya. I kinda noticed how they were made like the keys on a PC's keyboard and could easily see 'em fallin off or breaking. That's why on this one I just did a soft rolling kinda thing on both of 'em.
As for game controllers, I was never fortunate to have a Advantage. I always wanted one, but I think my parents thought they were too expensive so didn't ever get me one. The Max was cool coz it had that 'circle directional control' which made going in diagonal directions so easy. Later on!
Very impressive man. Loved this track right from the start. The percussion sounds great as does all the quirky synths! You really fused some genres togther perfectly! I like that kinda stuff!
Yeah, the groove of this is kinda different coz I made it in stages at different times.
As for blending genres, I think that & experimenting are my favorite things to do with music. Glad ya dug it. Later on!
Whats up!? Tripped out track you guys got here. Im thinking about starting a competition "Jack Of All Trades". Mabey you will be interested. Im trying to make a comp that focuses on getting people to work on music outside their comfort zone/genre they normally stick with. Oh yeah and I was thinking it should be in two man teams to kinda cross pollinate through out looper land. The interested parties would lock in their spots in the comp and I will check their tracks and choose something that they dont normally do. Then comes the fun part! The users that are locked into the comp that have their genre chosen by me or whoever helps me with this comp get to choose a teamate(smart people might want to choose a teammate that specializes in that genre) Not only does this have the potential to draw EVERYONE in but it also get users from different genres to collab where they probablly wouldnt have under normal circumstances. It was just an Idea Ive mention to you and a few other people. Tell me what you think. Mabey I could get you to help me out with this since you are a mod and all.
Yeah mate,
That sounds like a pretty solid plan. Maybe I could make it the next Stage2 mission or somethin (unless you were wantin to start this).
Oh, and I almost forgot- about the thing I mentioned for the other song.
Yeah we could do .wavs and I was thinkin we could also do the entire .mp3 (dunno if your prog can mess with those though). Lemme know if that sounds cool to you. Off for now. Lates!
Being a fusion lover myself, I love this track. Awesome time-sigs. The fading was great as well. Really like that the bassline and drums stay the same, and the overlaying arrangements keep changing.
I hear ya. Ironically, the bass was like the first thing I edited for this and what kinda caused it all. The drums came next and honestly, I felt like this would be fine with just those, but it woulda been sorta flat. So I added the other stuff.
And isn't fusion great? Glad ya stopped by. Later on!
Coolness D...love the way you've got it fading in and out..sorta like scenes in a movie...methinks you and I should do more of these 8-bit tracks...maybe even team up on one once I'm back up to full speed...anyway, nice concept, keep it fresh brother...
Okies mate, sounds like a solid plan to me. Just shoot me some specifics of what yer wanting to do and we'll see if we can't bang one out.
Oh, and the concept came from all of those game remixes they've got out there. I stopped and thought- you know what, I've never heard a mash-up type of mix before. Glad ya dug it. Later on!
Gaia, Greek Goddess of Earth/nature? Right? Those bongos/congos/congas/bongas sound really cool, the big sounding panned ones. The bassline and the kick tie together to much to sound like a rolling bass sound which doesn't work too well.
Yeah, I think yer right lil bro (if I remember right). I'm a bit rusty at the mo' coz I've been drankin, haha.
As for the track, yer gonna make me do it, ay, make me relisten to it? Haha, yeah those percs were what I first started with and I loved 'em so much that I hadta do somethin with 'em.
I'm thinkin the drum/bass part ya mentioned is one of the things that I was wanting to edit on this coz I've always felt that that part of the song was the weakest section. Didn't really know which way to go with 'em- do I drop the extra kicks, do I drown out & fade the bass, do I completely rework the drum section? I dunno, but when I do go to rework this I'm sure I'll have it sorted out. Glad ya dug it. Later on!
The drums sound familiar I have to say but I couldn't point them out.
The cross fading? Is that just because it is kind of different songs with similar element. Is that an acoustic guitar sample or a harp sample? Well whatever it is it is not in the same key as the bassline. Oh DubzOnFire mentioned this.... Well I would definitly turn it into one song all in the same key.
Yeah, I do too!
& a Game Boy Pocket (don't really mess with 'em though).
It's a Guitar sound font that I use (it's just that some of the notes are highly placed, kinda like how you can get Guitar-like sounds if you play a Bass down near the bottom of the neck).
As for the c-fades, haha, I do that in almost all of my songs lil bro.
And is the off key thing really that bad or is it the musician in you taking the helm on that judgment? Later on!
yeah i know a few of theese samps, why does the drums fade in and out? and the volumes up and down, i just dont understand this track at all sorry, its just sample after sample gone wrong sorry
It's cool mate,
My original desc didn't really do a good job of explaining the song. I just edited it once to explain the drum treatment, but I suppose I could re-edit it to talk about the other stuff.
As for whatcha said, yer pretty right. I just took the samples and worked on makin 'em sound like they were being played out of a Radio that had just been run over or was about to have its batteries run outta juice.
Sonic experimentation, savy?
Try thinking of it not as a DJ/Producer who wants to keep people dancing, but as a composer trying to make music for a movie or animated short.
Or think of it instead as something that'd be played in a big club's secondary 'green room'. Not meant to be primary or mainstream. Thanks for the feedback though. Later on!
Sup Dubz,
Yer actually not too far off. They aren't all matched up. The Guitar are in G, the bass is dropped down to E, and the Pads are in B. Maybe what I should've done is mod the Pads up one key to C to give the whole thing a C minor feel.
As for the other, I wasn't really thinkin about makin a solid mix. I kinda wanted to give it a free-form vibe. For that, I'm gonna recommend that ya listen to a few live groups of musicians. When yer there long enough you'll hear 'em go crazy at one point and each'll kinda do their own thing. Thanks for the input. Later on!
Definatly a hot hip-hop beat!!!!! i would like to hear more of yur work in this genre!!!!! only seen a couple.... the guit wah in there too are a nice addition!!!
Thanks Spit,
Yeah, I don't do 'em that often, but that's kinda because I think that the more time I give between these songs the better they're made, I think (shrugs). I think eventually I'm gonna haveta set a rule list to follow for makin different genres- like this week do House, next week do Experimental, 3rd week do samples/acapellas, 4th week Hiphop, etc. Glad ya dug it and feel free to remix this one mate. Later on!
Prech that mate. As for the FX, man, I kinda need 'em because my vox would sound like rubbish otherwise.
As for where I went, not there just yet, and I'm beginnin to think that I aint ever gonna get there (not one person has stepped up to say that they'd like to flow on this w/me).
As for the email, I think I mentioned somethin about it to ya somewhere on here. Later on!
Loving the vox with the neutered chipmunk and the Issac Hayes sounds stacked on top of each other. I never thought you would do rap, but then again your the Donny Vyros, what the hell are you going to do next?
Hahaha,
Thanks for the chuckle, brother. Yeah, I rap, nothing serious, but it was somethin I wanted to try my hand at too.
As for what I'd do next, I dunno- Country maybe? Try to compose something truly Classical? Ooh wait, I know, make some kinda boy/girl band Pop-type song, yeah! Haha. Really? Hmm, R&B maybe. That'd be the next logical step I'm thinkin. Later on mate!
Thirty thousand feet is a cool place to be in a jet...being at 26,660 feet on top of Nanga Parbat without oxygen is a whole different proposition...one of the most dangerous places to be on the planet...Hehe see what mentioning altitude does to me...I have no idea what House music is apart from a vague suspicion that it has nothing to do with being only played indoors! lol..I like the bass line going down here it's got that low down stalking quality that always pleases me...some of the fade outs and ins seem a bit long for me..but as I say I'm a newbie to "House"...I always get the impression that these type of grooves are designed for people that(lowers voice)....take drugs lol...being a sceptical guy I see all rave parties, gatherings, blah, blah, blah as excuses for the youth of today to get out of it..hehe...cool stuff dude cheers Dave :)
You know what's funny. I've never been afraid of enclosed places at extreme heights. Its just when I'm out in the open standing near the edge (or on a ladder, for example) that I start getting nervous.
So mountain climbing? Sure! Cliff climbing? No thanks! Haha.
As for house, I think the name came from where it would commonly be played when it was forming- in 'House parties'. As time passed, it grew in popularity and spilled out into the clubs and such. In a way, I think that when that happened House kinda lost itself to generic or dare I say, Pop-glam crap (glamorized by mainstream people putting their own spin on it).
As for my spin on House, I don't study it religiously or anything (don't really do that with any particular genre, normally). I just know what I like to hear when I'm makin stuff.
Haha, and yes- I was wanting to create a 'Trippy vibe' to support other people's addictions. Not that I endorse getting high, but I'm not gonna protest it either. And if I can help, well, then that's just cool beans, Billy! Haha.
The fades were an experiment- Both in playback quality and in my attempts at simulating Turntable-style mixing on my DAW. Glad ya dug it. Later on!
i think the track is a bit scary and becom more and more playful....there is something happenin and i dont know what^^ not my favorite music-style.........but interestin^^
I hear ya mate. There was a state of mind that I was trying to capture when I was makin this. That moment where you're in between being asleep and awake. Where the dream is still visible, but you're beginning to realize that it is one. And then there's the nastiness of the alarm clock. Stepping in to kill the dream. Glad ya dug it. Later on!
Thanks and umm, man, I'm tryin to think back. It was definitely an Effect I added onto the main song. Kinda hard to peg it down to which one because there was like... 4 channels of Effects I used on this, I think. I think it was= EQ, Distort, and Amp Simulation. Beyond that I'd haveta go back & check. Glad ya dug it. Later on!
I hear ya lil bro.
In fact, I might just shoot that idea over to Young. I'm thinkin that if he did 'em they'd sound super sweet. Glad ya dug it. Later on!
Yeah, it's kinda weird, but I figured people would like to do something a little different. Dunno though because I haven't had any takers yet (shrugs). Glad ya dug it. Later on!
i've never heard anything else like this track man
it makes me think of floating kind of
i think everything with it is great so i can't really offer any suggestions for ya, nicely done
Hey mate,
Thanks, that was totally the effect I was going for. Almost meditative, ya know? (if you've never tried to before, do it, man, you'll love it). Anyways, glad ya dug it. Later on!
sounds pretty good my friend and this isnt even really my type of music but i'm diggin the whole abstract fire truck kinda sound. i'll be lookin out for the finished version.
Prech that mate. Have you ever seen Beat Street? I kinda draw inspiration to make dif stuff because of the scene where he's showin his GF the way he mixes. And I was thinkin Fire trucks and such are pretty cool for audio templates. Glad ya dug it. Later on!
felt like I was at the Factory listening to a great dj set with the dance floor jammed, girl with their neon necklaces yeah that's the 80's. Great Chicago house feel, Frankie Knuckles would be proud to know that the music he help popularise is taken go care of, good job.
Thanks BPete,
That was the time that held the most influence on me getting into music stuff. Sure, there was the 90's boom, but that just served to reintroduce me to it.
As for Frankie, this is gonna sound so bad, but I don't own any of his stuff yet. Thanks for remindin me of him again. Now I gotta see if I can find somethin of his.
And House will always be my port of harbor. A place of refuge that I'll always readily return to. Glad it took ya back. Later on!
So what's with the dirty laundry?
After studying your avatar and actually paying attention I finally figured out what it is also! Some toy turntables. Speaking of which my new vinyls came yesterday!
Ok to the track....
Very psycadelic
I'm loving the breaks, but does it ever drop a 4 to the floor? Kind of essential to house, but not sure about dirty laundry though...
Oh yeah you can remix International House of Dancecakes all you want!
Haha, I kinda talked about it in the description. Just a different way to capture that whole 'creepy basement' vibe.
As for the Avatar, yep, Fisher-Price Record player. They don't make 'em anymore, ofcourse, but a thread was started a while back talking about the cool toys we had as kids and BAM- I remembered having one of these. So what with this being a music site and all using the image as my avatar just seemed so appropriate.
As for the track, well mate, it's funny that you mention that. Have you checked out the original yet (and the review I left Moke)? That's what I like to call 'super ironic'. I just took this song, lengthened it, and organized it's layout (added a buttload of effects too, haha).
Thanks for the other and I'm glad ya dug this one. Later on!
