I'll admit that this track definatly needs more work done on it, but for now I'm happy I've got this far.

Glad you liked the track!

I am probably the only human being in the world that hates sidechain. lol
I didn't likey the sidechainy... Dynamics that flow smoothly really get me.
But!!!

Despite that.... For your age, the emotional content and quality is kinda humbling.
You just PWNed the Key of B.
Fantastic work...
I really enjoyed this!
Nice to meet yer music!
:)
StephenPotter
StephenPotter replied Unknown
I think the sidechain was over the top, this was before I learned to use the peak controller though so I actually manually sidechained, hence why it sounds too much. I have got better versions of this song but none of them are as long as this one.

But this is one of the more complicated emotional melodies I've done, which makes me feel very happy :D

But thanks for the review!

Hey Ste

My friend nice track dude, love everything about it, I do have to agree with JW on the comments he made, about levels etc, but mate this has so much going for it, Ste you are coming along so well since you have been here on the loop, it is such an honour to watch you progress and grow, well done my friend...Peace and respect Ste....Estefano....Going to add this to fav's my friend, please let me know when you have the final version up and I will come by again and check it out, have new house up Ste, hope you enjoy...Cheers....
StephenPotter
StephenPotter replied Unknown
I'll add a final version soon, I've already fixed the vocals so I may upload that or save it for when I make it longer, and I know what you mean about progress. The scariest part is looking back at what I thought was amazing and looking to what I'm producing now and noticing a massive difference.

But thanks for the review, will let you know when I update.

i really like the vocals...and what you did with the track :)
it is almost finish...just create a good end :)
keep up the good work ste :) i really liked it...

Thanks Joyful, this was my entry for the competition, but as I said, I think I'm below the age limit, if I'm not then I'll submit it, but I won't do anything until I'm 100% sure.

I'll have a full version up on youtube, otherwise it will sound terrible, its not even half the length of the vocals and its already 7.9Mb.

But Thanks for the review!

on ZyKoh ft Minette and Ray KoeFoed by StephenPotter
How intense! Glitch pushed to the very brink? Really love what you did to the vocals - I think it adds a human element (albeit one sliced, diced, and jacked into machine land) that was really necessary to this piece. The voices keep it from straying totally into the synthetic (at least for me.)

You've outdone yourself once again! Very well done.
StephenPotter
StephenPotter replied Unknown
I wouldn't say to the very brink, but I'd say pretty close. What I want to try to do with the vocals is stick them through pauls extreme sound stretcher and see what that sounds like, its the same programme that slowed Bieber down to 800% and made him sound decent.

The voices were a last minute thing, I couldn't do anything with the pellas, Ray and Minette are just really talented, their vocals are beyond my ability, and I just wanted to use them.

Thanks for the review!

HOW THE HELL DO YOU GET TO 30 REVIEWS MAN!???

anyway, I really like it comes in with those fx at 0:30
(I hope you that faxing berlin is originally from deadmau5?)
One thing that (i think) you should change is the synth kinda sounds in the very beginning of the track. they should be mastered better or something cuz they sound kinda distorted..

and I think lyrics could make the track better, yes.
but lyrics could also maybe ruin the track.
be careful with you decisions ste! ;)
StephenPotter
StephenPotter replied Unknown
I honestly do not know how I this track got so many reviews. I'm happy with it though. I think there used to be more, but people have left the site since then. I did mention I used faxing berlin and autophresh in the description. I lost most of the synths after my laptop lost Refx Nexus, so finishing this track is unlikely. But I think you're right about lyrics, but 8 months after the original upload no-ones offered vocals yet. Anyway, thanks for the review!

Hey my friend

Liking this one too, few rough area's in it, but know how good you are you will sort them out when you get back to it,to me this is more Techno then Trance though, some of the synths/percussion maybe little to hard to be trance, good beat mate, very nice synths/pads, like the effects you have used, making a very interesting listen, like I said in forum post eg I suck, Ste seriously mate being so young as you are, you have a bright future ahead of you, so please keep doing your thing okies...Peace and Respect my good friend...Estefano....

StephenPotter replied Unknown
It seems you've reviewed two tracks which both are pretty much dead now. The original was back in 2009, which I think means that I should have left it alone, because I was trying to revive a dead song, even if I did like it.

Thanks for the review though, I'm gonna keep making songs, I'm planning on some more uploads soon, but I'm gonna drop a couple of my older songs.

Sorry for the late reply. I'm not sure what to do with this track. Right now I've got a massive to do list in terms of songs. I'd rather focus on making better versions of What I think and The speed of a thought than this one. I may finish it one day, but I doubt it because it just doesn't really fit my style.

Sorry about the long wait for the reply, haven't had the chance to get back to you until just, I'm glad that you liked the track, there are a lot of sounds in this track, but its the piano that is the most complicated one.

Might not be a next version unless I can start thinking straight, but I'm getting there, slowly.

YO WHAT UP MY MAN STE!

luvin' that progression on the INTRO!

got a slight glitchy sound goin' on with
that hihat pattern in the beginnin'

LUV THAT SYNTH BASS TOO!

and then the beat drops and it
went fast paced and started KNOCKIN'
me head around HARD!

just needs to have an overall higher
track volume in my opinion...
BUT then again i am slightly deaf...
>_>
StephenPotter
StephenPotter replied Unknown
Update is about 70% there, just need to add a few things here and there, but I'm busy doing other stuff right now so I probably won't be uploading for another two days.

The bass was just me messing about with 3xOsc and some FX. The track is quite quiet, but I'm working on it (slowly but surely).

Thanks for the review and the fav!

Love your style & sound you've created, your attention towards the details is growing with eatch project.

With all the melodies you used so far in your tracks, I wander about a track without drums. I'm curious in how you let that evolve without the structure (or borders)that a drumtrack provides.
StephenPotter
StephenPotter replied Unknown
That could be a pretty interesting challenge. Trying to make a track without drums would be difficult, but I reckon I could give it a try.
My track"the speed of a thought" does have drums in it, it does start off with a long, evolving synth only intro, which may satisfy your curiosity. But drums are an essential part of most of the songs I make, and I normally do the drums before anything else.

wow is that the speech generator from FL?
I never manage to get it synced to the beat :S respect bro!
Synths are Chilling, drums are stressful..
I'd say that's a perfect combination xD
Big thumbs up for this track! ;)

Btw: I guess I kinda missed your point in the discription...

what acapella?? and what happened to your vst's ? lol
StephenPotter
StephenPotter replied Unknown
Basically I moved Fl and all my plugins from one disk to another, they all made it across, but then REFX Nexus lost an important file and won't start up now. The acapella is just the vocode I used in this track.

Hey Ste

Dubstep, nice something that I might try soon, great beat, nice synths again, very nice cool intro, again clarity very nice, did sound like a little distorted in there somewhere, maybe meant to be?? Liked what I am hearing my friend, only downer, ITS TO SHORT, great work dude...Peace and Respect Ste...Estefano...
StephenPotter
StephenPotter replied Unknown
A lot of my stuff recently seems a little shorter than it used to, I mentioned why in the blog page on my site.

The distortion on the synth was intended, glad you liked the track, take a look at Dv8s work if you plan on making a dubstep track, he got ideas into my head and probably into yours as well.

on The storm outside (V2) by StephenPotter
Very cool and provocative work here. Like jahknow, I'm totally enamored with that arpegiated key running throughout. I find there's kind of a melancholy vibe going on here that really connects to a common human experience that's both powerful and inspiring.

My constructive criticism is this - please consider using this as a proto-draft, or as a inspirational launching point. In other words, consider not revising this one, but using everything you've learned to do another more polished and lengthy piece as I think it'll be a personal masterpiece.

Have to fave it despite myself (it's way too short to be satisfying), as it's really that inspired and that good!
StephenPotter
StephenPotter replied Unknown
An idea of using this as a prototype/protodraft/idea seems like a really good one right now.

" I find there's kind of a melancholy vibe going on here that really connects to a common human experience that's both powerful and inspiring."

I think thats what I first felt (or similar) when I first did this track.

Like floating on musical clouds! Nice work on this tune, very impressive, love the sweet break at 1:50 followed by well timed bass infusion at 2:04. I can tell you put some thought and energy into this, kudos. I want more!!! (and a DL will be icing on top) - DF/Jerome

Very nice smooth trance track you have here. Its not traditional and I guess that's what I like about it. Its almost a bit too short though for me. Would love to see you extend it and add in some solo breakdowns for some of the sounds and then build back up from there. But overall a class job! Really enjoyed listening :)
StephenPotter
StephenPotter replied Unknown
I think I might take this one down a more traditional route, I'm thinking of extending the intro and adding some proper drums, and I may even change all the sounds to more suitable ones.

So basically I may completely start again with this one.

I'm glad you enjoyed the track though.

Awesome track! You're right that morphing at the beginning is really cool! This song has a great groove to it! Very cool glitchy piano break, how did you do that? The vocoder sounds awesome! Very good work!
StephenPotter
StephenPotter replied Unknown
The piano break is me messing about with FL keys (I seem to be ignoring my downloaded vsts at the moment and focusing on the built in image line plugins) and the reverse and stutter FX are Dblue Glitch. The morphing is a great built in effect on kore player which you can put over the top of anything (I chose to put it over the bass)

Thanks for the review!
