Listen To The Storm Outside (V2) Chill Out Song By StephenPotter At Looperman.com

27th Jun 2010 21:36 - 15 years ago
Description : Heres something a little more relaxing I did. The intro pads and wind were made with kore player, and so were the drums. The guitar is FL slayer with some delay on it, and thats about it for the moment!

Again I've recycled one of my older melodies into a better, newer song. Only I don't think I've changed Trance to Chillout before.
EDIT! OK I've updated this track by getting rid of some of the ambience in the background, changing the delay, and changing the way the drums come in.

Hope you enjoy!

Ste :)

Very cool and provocative work here. Like jahknow, I'm totally enamored with that arpegiated key running throughout. I find there's kind of a melancholy vibe going on here that really connects to a common human experience that's both powerful and inspiring.

My constructive criticism is this - please consider using this as a proto-draft, or as a inspirational launching point. In other words, consider not revising this one, but using everything you've learned to do another more polished and lengthy piece as I think it'll be a personal masterpiece.

Have to fave it despite myself (it's way too short to be satisfying), as it's really that inspired and that good!

An idea of using this as a prototype/protodraft/idea seems like a really good one right now.

" I find there's kind of a melancholy vibe going on here that really connects to a common human experience that's both powerful and inspiring."

I think thats what I first felt (or similar) when I first did this track.

Thanks for the review and the fav!

I'm glad that you enjoyed this one, always feels good to get some comments on a song. The feeling you described there was exactly the sort of feeling I wanted the listener to get, so thanks for that.

Thanks for the review!

i like chill out and i like this song nice mellow intro you should try using a big ping pong pan on the echos of the start synth.. the beat is good decent amount of reverb but you should try layering the kick with a deeper one then break the song down to a good outro insted of it just ending or add more stuff like pianos and strings etc :)

StephenPotter replied Unknown
Maybe I will do that if I change the genre, but its the simplicity of this song which is what made me proud of this one, as JahKnow pointed out in his review. I'll change the kick, and work on this track soon, but I got other tracks to do, I need to upload!

Also, schools out for six weeks :P

Thanks for the review and the fav!

I liked the track a lot. One thing perturbed me though, I thought it ended too soon lol. Seriously, it is a pleasant piece to listen to and I look forward to listening to more of your tracks in the near future.

Peace

A man after my own heart. I love that arpegiated key riff. That makes for a nice song in itself. Like the minimalism you kept in tact here. Ambient doesn't need a femal Enya vocal overdub or a cheesy string pad played over it all. This weird ambience that I love a lot.

Nice work mate.

Really, this is the first song I've made that I've kept simple, the rest of my songs have a lot more layers in. As for cheesy string pads, I normally love them, but I didn't think they would fit in with this one, so it looks like I did a good thing there.

Thanks for the review! I still like dance before the throne, its still a song I want to listen to a lot, but I don't want to fill your play thing with my face. I'd happily buy it.

im getting some clicks on the left side, it cuts off short, and it sounds a bit empty at times (though maybe thats a chillout thing, or maybe just me). its got some good ideas though, the guitar and "wind" are good examples

StephenPotter replied Unknown
The empty parts I think is when one of the vsts I used failed to render the sound properly, don't know why it did or how to fix it because it works inside Fl but doesn't render the sound.

The guitar I had a lot of fun with the delay, and the wind was pretty simple to make.

Thanks again for another review my friend!

Description : Sounds of the sea and trippy acidy washes with a cool beat and some live acoustic guitar. Written in Cubase with live guitar and keys etc. The sound of the sea and birds was recorded on the beach where I used to live. After moving to the city one sunny day I was telling stories to a friend about living by the sea and started making this track.

Description : I used some new "Anthem" pickups from L.R. Baggs on my Martin acoustic to see how it performed, and it definitely beat my expectations. Captured the sound perfectly as I needed.

Anyhoo, this song is almost a prayer, hence the repetitiveness of the verses. As Christians, we believe that God will one day return and take away every suffering and all evil for good; in that regard, this song is almost one of waiting too. Very simple, with vocal harmonies and whatnot. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did making it. Made in 13 hours.

Someone else wrote the words, I was just inspired to use them. I only added the "Yeah" and "Amen."

Description : This is a track off of one of my EP's I dropped last year. It is based on True events. Sometimes when people finally take a second in life to slow down and breathe in..... Description : So a guy buys a nice guitar at a pawn shop but returns it a few days later after waking from a sound sleep to hear it playing by itself. When he tells of his experience he is shocked to learn the owner had actually died while playing it. Is it fantasy or truth? Is the guitar in this track that very same guitar? Its all part of the mystery and fun of Halloween !
EDIT: modified ending to a deeper voice

Description : A progressive journey incorporating deep ambient chillout, swing jazz, hip hop, d'n'b, trance and a slight touch of acid with a thousand ninjas battling in space. Features a great deal of my lead slide resonator guitar playing. Also a whole load of synths, programmed acoustic drum kits and manipulated drum loops, big basslines, regular electric guitar, vocoded guitar parts and bass guitar (distorted right at the end). If you like deep chill, far out soaring beauty, fat beats and 170 BPM uplifting slide trance controlled mayhem, you might just get into this. In my heaven there is an endless supply of honey mangoes (an exquisite beauty of the fruit world) and even more slide guitar. A 1,000-year-long version of this track plays there on a loop (long enough not to get bored of it) but here I offer you the Earthly 11 min version. You must be very good to be accepted into my heaven to hear the full thousand year version so best start now. It may be heaven's main theme tune but it's not above criticism so feel free to let me know what you think of it. Maybe you prefer the soundtrack in hell. I hear it's pretty badass...
