on What I think (Second Version) by StephenPotter
Hey Step, this is very good...I like the melody, u defenetly must do Trance :X
it's very good melody for trance music, something uplfiting, dreamy trance ....
I love piano sounds to trance songs...to bad I'm not good at creating piano loops lol

I geussing that youc clicked the link from the email, yeah? I'll check out the house experiment you uploaded as a way of saying thanks :)

I know I said before it would probably be breakbeat... I'm actually wondering if I have the ability to make a breakbeat track. So I am thinking of doing a trance track, but maybe with a different drumline to what I normally do, because the four step kicks and 8 step claps are something which I haven't made myself, I'm not bieng original enough. So I might have to work on a better drumloop.
Thanks for the review!

This track is going places man. If you add some basic percussion and a simple bass, it'd be a banger! Good work

StephenPotter replied Unknown
Thanks for the review, I am starting to go forwards with this track now, and I have got a drumset in it. As for the bass... Probably wont be that simple :P

This has a lot of potential! You've achieved a really good sound with the effects you put on the piano! I agree that breakbeat may be the way to go with this one, but it does sound a little trancey the way it is. Nice work so far!

Recieving a comment from you means a lot to me, because you were the first person to review any of my songs, and thats not something I'm going to forget.

I think you are right, breakbeat is the path I need to go down, but it does have something of a trance song about it.

Thank you for the review :)

on What I think (Second Version) by StephenPotter
It so far it sounds That I could be epic. The question you need to ask yourself where you want to start your rhythm and what type and what you can use to bridge it in if required. To me it sounds like it my lend itself to breakbeat than trance. The puling bass in most trance dosen't seem to work in my head. But Keep at it something will come to you.
StephenPotter
StephenPotter replied Unknown
I think I may actually edge towards breakbeat in this one actually, get the drums to overpower the ambience, which I could make from playing the last section of the piano at a lower level. Sounds like a good idea to me.
I think I might have to note down everyone, as I said on my forum post, everyone who makes a decent suggestion is going on the description even if their suggestion didn't really make it in the end.

Thanks for the review!

Hey Stephen

Mate as I have stated before you have heaps of talent and this track just goes to prove that, very danceable, brilliant pads, lifting the piece very nicely with the beat and bassline, synths very good choice for this piece, mate instant fav right from the very start, Peace and Fav'd...Estefano...
StephenPotter
StephenPotter replied Unknown
Thanks for the review, like I said in the last reply, I lost Nexus, but I think the majority of the sounds on this one were made with Gladiator 2, which is probably the best Christmas present I've had in recent years, I really can't stand the Xbox, Ps3 or the Wii anymore (Got one console each year).

Might sell them, get better VSTs, or louder speakers, so when my neighbours start shouting at each other, I can scare the living crap out of them.

I said to Cybertooth in an email how much I like making 7 note chords, this one was actually 6 notes, but still sounded good to me.

The introduction pad and half of the drums were the only things made with nexus, so I can salvage this track to work on it more :)

Thanks again for the review, and the fav!

Hey Stephen

Mate you have talent, this is a very nice chillout type of DnB, rather then the head bashing tracks you hear sometimes, Nice vocal, synths and pads very good, nice laid back beat my friend, loved this piece right from the very start, instant fav my friend...Peace and respect dude...Estefano...
StephenPotter
StephenPotter replied Unknown
Thanks, I might upload the vocals. The pads were made with REFX Nexus, which I've now lost. Damn you microsoft!

Oh well, I still have enough plugins to crash my laptop, so I'm not that bothered.

Thanks, it was originally called world of insanity, but I re-named it before the upload.

To be honest, I see this as the worst song I've uploaded on looperman, but not the worst I've uploaded alltogether.

I'll check you're track out, bieng as you've reviewed two of mine.

the track shows potential the reverb needs a little more and a little more 'height' is needed other than that a good effort - keep em coming dude

StephenPotter replied Unknown
I know, I really should have put "demo" in the title, this is still a work in progress...

BUT it is better than my original version on newgrounds:

I cant believe its been over a year since I made some of those. I sound a lot better now than I did then!

I agree with the guy below me, this isn't drum and bass, but should be under the "weird" genre. Keep at it, and maybe you'll be an avant-garde producer, noise producer (yes Noise is a genre of music, more of "anti-music", but it's still sounds, and there are LOADS of noise artists/musicians out there, like myself and my guy Peter J. Woods (myspace him)). Keep at it man
StephenPotter
StephenPotter replied Unknown
I am going to update the song, because I haven't done it in a while, and then it will sound more like drum and bass.

Also, because I quit the looperman song collab, this song may be about 7 or 8 minutes long, so I'll tell you if I update, and if it is as long as I hope it will be.

hey ... first time i listen to your tracks - only ever check you out in the forums! Your stuff ROCKS!!! this is sooooooo cool Stephen. Stunning job! I love the vocoder also, and the bass is so rubbery and phat! Made me want to bounce up and down in my seat (which is not a cool thing - seeing as we sit in an open-plan office :) )
StephenPotter
StephenPotter replied Unknown
Thanks, I was on holiday, so thats why I took a while to reply.

I really like using the vocoders, simply because its good to add vocals into a song without causing the listener any kind of damage :)

Thanks for the review! :)

I wouldn't call this d and b because people's perceptions of it are formed before they listen and it dissapoints when you don't get that Junglist sound... kind of like ordering roast beef and then getting chicken, it might be good chicken but you still want the beef, if you know whatimean!Call it chillout put it in that section and reviews will be better.
StephenPotter
StephenPotter replied Unknown
Yeah, I know, my drum and bass is chillout on speed. But I'm gonna keep it as it is, unless I decide to update it, but yeah, because this used to be my entry for the looperman song, it had to be short, but because I've dropped out, I can extend it further and make it more like drum and bass.

Thanks for the review! :)

not bad u sure knowwhat ur doing like the intro as the track gets into a smooth transiton.it also has trancey vibe to it but not much(cant stand trance techno person)the track overall is solid great to listen
StephenPotter

I didn't actually originally intend to have that vibe about it, I originally wanted this to be a house/dance track, but I sort of added it in there.

ok stephen...are you still in for the song ???
man...i like your stuff...you do great things...and you are very jung...and we both wanna show all that you are also great like others...so i cant use your demo like it is...because we must have 120bpm for the track...its very important...i wanna play all parts together at the end...and as you can hear in my demo...it works...i played the dance demo with the hip hop-pop demo together...and man...it sounds great...
so please do something with 120bpm...do 4 bars intro...16 barst verses...16 bars chorus...and 4 bars outro...if you like to have my dance demo...i could send you my seperated dance demo...
work with the demo in the backround and create your demo...do some drums and bassline...then collab with others...but use the bassline notes as you hear in my demo...comon boy...you can do it...i know that :)
cheers...JW...

PS: fine you have the demo...the bassline is important...dont forget 4 bars intro and 4 bars outro :) but make little sounds... and check if both demos plays also well together...
StephenPotter
StephenPotter replied Unknown
I understand now. I'll start over, and leave this one as a song rather than an entry :)
I have the original dance demo, have you updated since?
Anyhow, like I said, I'll keep this up but change the title :)

Very good for first attempt!
very calm, relaxing, and you're still adding Esher vocal,
i'm ready for bed,lol!
great job!
But,honesly I would not put on this hip hop genre,
that's just my opinion!!
Maybe someone will not agree,or if you are so conceived as hip hop, which is fine, but I would put other genre, maybe chill out!
Maybe I'm wrong!

I only put it under hip hop because of the drumloop I used, but yeah, I probably will change it to chillout.

not bad...but is it possible to make the track with 120bpm...or double it to 240bpm...then you do 32 bars verses and 32 bars chorus...then its fast enough i think...i dont know if it works...maybe try it :) but for a first demo its great :)
cheers...JW...
StephenPotter
StephenPotter replied Unknown
I tried it on 240, it seemed a little too fast, but I just tried the transition between the rock song at the start, then mine, then the ambient, then your one, and it fits quite well. I'll send you the mp3 preview :)

Very cool vocoder man! This sounds like a good addition to the looperman song. Some purists on this site might say this isn't drum and bass though, but I'm not as picky... haha. Awesome demo!

nice track..love the flange on the drums and the change up at 0:55 is a nice smooth transition.DnB is in the eye of the beholder, which basically means...well im not sure what it means...BUT!.this track has ambience and drum and bass, soo there for it definitely falls into te DnB genre.alot of DnB tracks feature that low sub sweeping bass.however, the genre is more complex than just that and this is a nice addition to the mix.great work.

once again m8, really nice intro.
nice rolly beats on the drop(which needs the levels rasied or synth level lowered)
but a real lack of sub bass is an issue here,
i was expecting "whaohhh" when it dropped,
but all i got was "ahh man wheres the sub"
sort the levels out, sort the sub out,
then you'll have a nice tune here.
peace oot
