Another classic Spiv!! You know how to do it. Definitely reminisce of devo or talking heads that meet electro punk...pistols ...I can hear it yep. Love AnomolyJ's comment. Another 4:21 that was well worth it. Thanks

Cheers

Hey, you're too kind! I can only be thankful I can still find inspiration. I've been twisting my mind enough to get back into talking heads, so I get what you mean there. Hey happy 4:21, it only takes a minute I guess...heh. Thank you very much for listening and leaving a comment!

Spivkurl, your songs are always excellent, and so was this song. The song was a bit 'overclashed' with elements that didn't need to be there, but overall I quite liked it. Going in my fave's!

Hey, thanks much for listening and faving! I hear what you mean about the clashing elements, and I appreciate you mentioning it. I guess I was recoiling from a stint of minimal techno, and kind of took it too far in the other direction. Thanks for stopping by!

Well i have to admit that i haven't a clue what an 8 bit track is so you'll have to excuse me as i have nothing to compare it to. It reminds me a little of the soundtrack to an old arcade game like donky kong or sum ting.
It's definitely got a unique sound to it and i can just picture mario (version 1) trying to jump those barrels to get to the lady at the top.
Interesting tune and it sounds good after a few buds (the beer not the green stuff)

Hey buddy! Well, 8 bit is pretty much what most of the old games and toys were back in the day, so your comparison to arcade games is pretty accurate. Atari made 8 bit home computers in the 70's and 80's, and actually up til '92 which surprised me. When Shan added this genre, he referred to it as "8 bit chiptune circuit bent," and since this one is primarilly circuit bent I thought I'd switch the genre. Glad I could enhance your beer drinking a little! Thanks for listening!

Nice vocals and drum beat, but bass is a bit too distorted. Anyway, great mixed!

Spivkurl replied 13th May 2014 - 11 years ago
Cool to have you listen to a couple of my songs! I think the distorted bass is what gives this an industrial feel, that and the vocals any way. Just had something to say, so I said it. Thanks for stopping in!

I think I root about 90% of what I do in minor keys Spiv...for some reason they just seem to hold more character or something...great job on the vocal in this one...it caught me as a little Bowie like when you first kicked it in...when you get this many musical elements & movements into the mix it sure takes the industrial genre to a place that appeals to the ear a lot more quickly than the mixes that focus a lot of the noise/machine parts (I know I`m not expressing this well)...but suffice to say..its makes for good listening for guys like me who are not too up on things...another great track...one of you best I think......Ed

Spivkurl replied 13th May 2014 - 11 years ago
Thanks my friend for stopping by! I don't want to think what this song would've been if it were in a major key...lol! Thanks for the compiment on the vocals! Been compared with Bowie, Ian Curtis, and Trent Reznor already with this track, and those are all big influences for me, so it means a lot! I know what you mean about the noise/machine style industrial, I guess that's never been my favorite style. I think things like that are best left to genres like minimal, noise, and glitch. Thanks much for your support!

Spiv. How's it goin', Mister?

I'm always impressed by your work. This is no exception to that. With all of your work, it's clear that you're passionate about it. But this one has just a little more than usual. It seems to be more....seamless(?). Even the mixing seems to be more clean, which seems like an inappropriate word given the amount of distortion. But even in that, it's balanced out and varied to the point where it doesn't begin to fatigue. Honestly, I have nothing but good things to say about this track.
The only thing I have that would be considered a complaint, is that guitar. There needs to be more of it. When it kicked in at 4:10, my brain wanted it to be the beginning of a solo that trudges it's way through.
Either way, I personally feel this is one of your personal best. I'm going to go hat trick on this one with comment, fav, and download.
Take care, man.
Aaron.
Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied 13th May 2014 - 11 years ago
I really appreciate your kind and helpful comments! Seamless and clean are nice things to say! I have to admit that a lot of that is due to my new equipment - new monitors, new midi controller, new audio interface, direct box... stuff like that. Finally getting used to using these things, and it's having a great effect on my music. Glad it didn't fatigue! I'm glad you liked the guitar! I guess I didn't use it more, because I wanted this to be a very electronic sounding track, not so much electrical lol. I think using real instruments as accents and tools of expression can be a great thing in electronic music, and there's not enough of it around. I too feel this is some of my best work to date, so I'm glad you feel that way too! Thanks for the fave and DL!

Hey pat, thanks for linking me this song. I did actually happen to stumble across this previously but probably it was when I was busy and I didn't listen to it fully then,
I really liked the sound at 0.16 it sounds just so energetic for me haha.
Further not much piano added in but just a slight bit, the small parts you did put in sound nice though, challenge you to make a track with only piano ^^ but that might lie in the future since you are still practicing it anyway, though it would take away the cool spivkurl industrial sounds :/

great job ;)

Thanks for sharing this

Hey, thanks for swinging by to comment on this song! I am just a beginner at piano, especially recording it, so yes, there isn't too much in here. Playing keyboards and organs helps a bit, and knowing some theory, but it's mostly a new beast. I don't know if I'll ever do a strictly piano song, but who knows?! I appreciate the feedback and support! I will be returning your message soon!

Another great tune from you! I never really listened to Industrial music but thanks to you, I think I will be checking out this genre a little more now. This has an amazing dance flow to it and your vocals are great! How long have you been singing, if you don't mind me asking? You should sing more often. Your voice has a rock feel to it, reminds me of songs by "Nine Inch Nails". The vocals like most of your music had me laughing, comedian eh?

Great work as usual, keep them coming!

Spivkurl replied 9th May 2014 - 11 years ago
Hey thanks for stopping in to listen! Industrial is definitely a fun genre! I guess I started singing mostly around 2000 or 2001 I think it was, with Iris-T-Shirt. We stopped a couple years later, but are working on new recordings now. I started singing as spivkurl in like 2008 I believe. Had a couple years where I got a away from it and focused on instruments, mixing, and mastering... partly just to learn and improve. Now I'm doing vocals more than ever, partly because of supportive people like yourself! Being compared to NIN is an honor, as they are definitely one of my top bands, and I've seen them live more than any other band. I try to find humor in things, especially dark subjects, or when I have the chance to be sarcastic. Just a flar of mine I guess. Sorry for the long response, it was just a good thorough review! Thanks very much!

This was one of the tracks I heard a couple of days ago on soundcloud from you, I enjoyed it back then and now still

Funny though since I was listening it and just laying back then was like who is the one who produced this and saw your name haha. The mixture of sounds you use are mostly highly unusual and so in here, it is one of the things that separates you from the other artists but I mentioned that before

Thanks for making this and I hope to see more like this tune

Spivkurl replied 9th May 2014 - 11 years ago
I really appreciate that attention on here and soundcloud, what is music without listeners? It's good to know you think my sounds are unusual, as I do strive for an individual sound. I would never have come this far as an artist, and I may not even be alive, if it weren't for Looperman and the people I've met here, including you of course! Thank you very much!

Sorry I missed this one when it came out, must have been all those porters and whiskeys!

Keep up the singing, you keep getting more innovative and unique. The lyrics are well written and very cool and fun to read.

The music is well produced and with the vocals make a rather upbeat, quirky, fun, interesting, awesome.... Whatever you are doing, keep doing it. Great track and I will be dl'ing this one so thanks so much for sharing!

Pat as I was writing few minutes ago nin email for U , I know nothing about such genres , but now your description makes me underestand like this = tempo & having gothic elements is a difference of dub & industrial genres , right ? ?...
..well so as U know I don't know anything about such new genres (according to be grown & died instead of living in islamic f..ing vaccuumed ). but rearding what i'm hearing a notable point is your cool singing style which sounds more beautifull in this one ...your interesting thinking about lyrix & anpother notable point is what I had told U last year too = U're soOoO tallented to be a composer for animation my friend ... in the end as usual best wishes here too .___B
Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied 9th May 2014 - 11 years ago
Hello my friend! Well, industrial is a genre which is open to interpretation. 150 BPM is faster than dubstep generally, so that was one point. The gothic elements are more personal preference than anything, it's not a prerequesite for industrial or anything. The addition of some guitar playing added to the industrial feel of the song I think, and you don't often hear dubstep with full fledged lyrics. Thank you for the compliment about my singing, I tried pretty hard on this one, as it was important to me. It would be cool to have animations done for a song of mine, but then again I'd rather listen to things than see them any time. I'm known to lay there just listening to TV shows not watching them, especially if I've seen them before. I have a pretty active imagination, so I see what I want to see, whilst being influenced by the sounds. Thank you for your kind words!

Hello friend! Reading your review, I don't know whether you mean a cure (as in medicine) or the cure (as in the band)... heh heh... either way it's a good thing, so thank you! Betwixt is such a good word! Thanks for the compliment on the mixing too! Glad I could engage you and others for a few minutes. I think I know the demons you mean, and that's pretty much what this song is about. I catch your meaning about not eating and all, though it wasn't foremost in my thoughts when writing this song. More literal, as in I'm getting thinner, and you're getting bigger... "you" in this case is more of a general powers that be reference. Thank you very much for your exciting comment, you never fail to inspire me and make me look at things differently! If I could fave a comment I would!

Very nice review my friend! It was influenced by one of the darkest times in my life, and that's actually saying a lot I've come to realize. Yeah this is the spivkurl we know and love. really dig this mate but then you already know i like the ones you do with vocals.
The synths sit perfectly on the guitars and you sound really good.
The levels are all perfect and i just simply love it.
I actually bought a loop pack of industrial sounds the other week and i haven't managed to do dick with it yet. I must make a point of having another go.

Hey there! Thanks for the returned reviews, means a lot to me! It's funny what you wrote about it being the Spivkurl we know and love, being that it's a cover, but I get it. I got in the habit of using other people's art to express myself with the whole loopradio thingy, and this seemed like the proper progression after it all hit the fan. Interesting that these sound like guitars to people, since they're not, I guess I got the tone right. You should totally check out ohgr if you haven't already, his albums are like some of the best I've ever heard! I'm interested to hear the industrial you create! Take care!

Hi Spiv,
Good to see a new one from you.
I will start telling you what I don't like: nothing!
I loved this! You create crazy sounds with that guitar... I want to hear more often. Your singing is very eighty, a bit of Bowie can be heard and some of Curtis as well (the way you use a nasal tone on the deep notes and the way you stretch the vowels).
Liked it!
Ciao, Domenico

PS: this song has way too many chord changes, the sex pistols would have never been able to play it... what? only one chord you say? but that's already too much for them :-)
[just to make it clear... I LOVE THE PISTOLS!]

Spivkurl replied 7th May 2014 - 11 years ago
Such a nice review my friend! You made me happy yesterday when I read it! I was really putting myself into the recording process this time, so it's cool to get good reactions like this. I will be trying to play more guitar in the future, I've gotten away from it mostly. Being compared to Ian Curtis and Bowie is a real honor, they are some of my favorite singers and songwriters. Glad to hear that you noticed all the chord changes, show's that you have an ear for music for sure. I've liked the Pistols for a long time too, I guess I can't help but get a little inspiration from that. Thanks very much for your supportive comments!
