Not enough happening in the track to hold my interest. To me, needs more development, more movement, theme and variations, contrasts, something. I appreciate the cleanness of the sounds that are here, but I want more to keep my mind and ears engaged. Thank you.
I completely understand where you getting at because i think the same way, but in this project I kind of wanted to let the vocals take over and drive the song( which would require a very good and experienced vocalist). After the vocals will I then revise the song and fill in those missing parts.
Well you can sing better than me I'll tell ya that. And yet I made a 17-song album a couple years ago with me singing before I came to my senses and buried it deep in the mountains of wtf. This is a groovy track and could support a groovy song. I might want a changeup or two somewhere, for chorus, bridge, whatever, then wham, we're back in the groove on a big downbeat. Whatever you do, I look forward to hearing the full song someday...
Hi, CitizenMofo. I find it hard to believe that I sing better than you, or anybody else! :) I have not yet come to my senses. I am attempting vocal parts out of desperation because I can't find good vocalists to collaborate with. Part of the problem is that my tracks cover a range of styles/genres. And, I will admit that sometimes I haven't followed through on collabs, usually because I felt that the track I was considering wasn't good enough or didn't actually have lyrics. I have a lot of difficulty writing lyrics. I have never focused on lyrics in songs, always on the instrumentals. In fact, I used to only like instrumental songs. That's put me at a disadvantage now I think. Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing any more detailed suggestions you might have for improving this song, if you have time. Crucethus has suggested more variation in the percussion track. He's right about that. I'm pretty lazy when it comes to building the drum tracks, which is a bit surprising because I was actually a drummer in my past life. I also have problems with song structure. I tend to latch on to one chord sequence and just stick with that for the whole song. Finding a good sequence for bridge, chorus, etc. seems to be a challenge for me. I think it is just laziness. Thanks again for the comment. I did appreciate it.
Man you just made my morning. This is a badass track. No guitar? Not around 3:00ish and toward the end? That ain't guitar? I'd swear on a stack of bibles that that was guitar. How you make a cello sound like that? This is the kind of track that pulls lyrics and melodies right out of my gut. I'm so tempted to ask if I could write some lyrics to it and record with Sunny, and maybe lay in some guitar too, but I'm up to my earballs in songs to record as it is. Still...? Anyway, great teeth-gritting bang-headed grunge. Love it.
Yes, there really is zero guitar anywhere in the track.
"I'd swear on a stack of bibles that that was guitar."
I'm totally with you and I would have thought the same if I hadn't made it. Here's how I believe it works: when you hear fat, distorted guitar, you're often no longer really hearing the guitar strings. What you're really hearing is the distortion. It can be used on other instruments but is most closely associated with guitar. Remember: cello is not wildly different from guitar, being a similar stringed instrument. So, all you have to do to get the kind of sound I've got here is put some cello parts through guitar distortion.
In this, I have used a mixture of VST amps (ie applying distortion to cello parts that were recorded clean) and my Boss GT-5 effects pedal for playing distorted cello live.
I'm not clever for doing this - I just don't think many other people are doing it though I assure you you can go totally badass with cello. Check out the virtuoso duo 2Cellos to hear and see them do it live (try out 'Voodoo People').
My cello teacher uses distortion sometimes and she gets many more strange sounds out of the instrument than I do. But she's been playing for about 35 years more than I have so kind of knows what she's doing.
"tempted to ask if I could write some lyrics to it and record with Sunny"
Sorry. I think it's mostly done as it is. And I'd need to know you better to consider doing any sort of online collaboration.
"I'm up to my earballs in songs to record as it is"
Good to hear. I'm struggling a bit with only a few to work on and they're not all going well.
Thanks for the thoughts and happy to be able to entertain you.
Drew my ears and mind deep into the track and held them there. Boppin groove for sure. I like the ending too. Could even pick up again after that and go straight into a big new track or a reprise. Great funky stuff, man.
Ballsy and badass. Great for a base track. Now needs some mind-blowing lyrics and a screamer with a touch of funk in his delivery. Can't wait to hear the future project!
I enjoyed this track, ladyinred. There's over a minute of silence at the end but I'm sure you know that now. (I just posted a track with 12 seconds of silence at the end by mistake; it happens.) Anyway, very well mixed and a great groove that gets a body moving.
Epic groove. Makes a body move. Great for the dance floor. For me, I'd like a little more development of the theme and evolution of the structure, more so than just by the filters that are applied at moments throughout. Good stuff for dancing, but for listening, maybe a little more for the mind. Thanks!
Well it's time for work, gotta make a few bucks! Well it's time for work and that really sucks! I love the sound of your cigar box guitar, and your jamming's awesome. But is it done? Are you going to build it into a whole song? Would love to hear that...
I made this just before work one day hence the title ;) This is my fav cbg, I definitely need to make more with magnetic pick ups! They sound a bit more dirty with the piezo pick ups. I'm done with this except I'm going to make a video for it. I'll get some tunes on the others up as well, each has a unique sound.License plates have a bit more of a banjo sound. Finished a 3 string cookie tin guitar for the local school, next up is that train tin :p Before Fender and Gibson there were homemade cbgs! Thanks CM :D
Hey there. I think this is the start of something good but far from finished. Needs layers, development, variation, build. But, as I say, I really do think it's the start of something good because I started writing a song while listening to it, couldn't help it - good grooves often do that for me - pull out a song, like nothing. I'd love to see what you could do with it with further development...
Hey,
thanks for your feedback, it really motivates me, especially when you say you started wrting a song to that beat, thats very very nice to hear!
I try to upload one track per day, so maybe you find something good for your songs in my library :)
I love this strange weird track. I love the strange weird singing. I love the strange weird music. I love your strange weird style. Please keep being strange and weird.
I don't think that I can avoid the traits which you speak of, and yet, I can't help but feel that it is others who are strange and weird (music aside). Can these things truly be a "majority rules" attribute? I look around at the people I see, and I think "how can you live like this?" In a similar fashion, I look at much of the recent popular music, and think "why bother?" Maybe these things on their own make me strange or weird. Either way, I appreciate your listen, and the feedback! Thanks!
I faved this just for the drums alone. They're killer. But it's not just the drums - I really enjoyed this piece in its totality (except for the end - seems just cut off). There's a lot of orchestrational mastery on display in the ebb and flow of the music. Makes me want to hear more from you. Great job.
Great track. Really enjoyed it. I would call it psychedelic funk rock myself. Definitely a funky element, and definitely rocks. You can dance to this and that's vital. I loved the interplay and flow of all the different guitars. Some great wailing, some great bass especially in the section where it's featured. It carried me through to the end bangin' and boppin'. Cool tune and successful collab.
Now that's some fawnky jazz. I was into it from the first swingin' note, and it wasn't just headbopping, it was violent contortions in my rolling desk chair. The mix puts your head in the dead center of the action, and I don't know how you get those vocals to sound like that, scraping the bottom of the track sometimes and always with a shine around them. The piano, the horns, the vocals, all of it blend into a fantastic groove. Great work, and great mix.
Not sure why this is trap, seems more chill out to me, but no matter, a smooth sweet track. My favorite part is the bass and my ears kept drilling in to follow that, could even be a louder perhaps. More drama and variation? Yes, there could be but nonetheless I enjoyed the ride.
Lovely. Emotional. I was staring out my window at the rainy trees while listening and it was the perfect pairing. I especially like the crashing sounds in the latter part. And the return to serenity. Nice...
Love this piece. Lot of great music and tasty guitar packed in to this track. The sax jumped out at me with a happy yelp of surprise. I like the subterranean vocals going on. And the fade to rain at the end is way cool. Excellent work.
I clicked fave 30 seconds in just for the sound of those guitars. Or guitar. Sounds plural. Love the piece - it's perfect for what it is. It's a really really great sound. Makes me salivate to write a song to that sound...
Cigar box guitars :D Such a simple but amazing sounding instrument! Yes, I layered a second guitar part, played on the same one though. http://imgur.com/gallery/QZBjOoT I still have these ones. The black one in the center is the one I played on here and Ghost of a guitar, my fav. Been making them for a year now, giving them away as gifts. I have more tunes on various other ones but cleaning up my page I took them down, hear some more of them here though https://www.reverbnation.com/1096781/album/117064 Once I used a violin bow on my 2 string cookie tin, who ever knew a cookie tin could make sounds like that!! Thanks CitizenMofo, more homemade guitars and music played on them in the works.
Very very lovely piece of music, and the vocals are exquisite. I don't know what's being said, of course, and if a complete thought has been made, but it's so lovely that I do wish it would go on longer!
Bless you for your kind words, thank you. You're right, this could've been a bit longer but my intention was to emphasize that beautiful voice rather than create an expanded arrangement thus I left it like that, a little Russian gem. Best regards.
Posted a while ago but new to me. With a title like that and a penile shape to the soundwave, well the sound did not disappoint the expectations thus created. A funky, nasty guitar and sax amalgam that lives up to its engorged namesake. Good shit.

Hey MrMofo thanks man!..I never made the connection with the audio file shape! lol....that made my day kudos to you!..thanks again for your perceptive take on this track...cheers Dave :)
Headbanger! A lot of great sounds in here that hit hard. I recognize that squawk loop, used it myself before. Love those pounding guitars and that deep-in-your-belly bass, and the dynamic changes in volume. It does not feel finished though or fully developed. I want more.
-Mofo
I like weird tracks and I like this weird track which head my head bopping and my foot tapping. My fave part is when the deep nonsense voice comes in (I like using deep nonsense voices too). It does feel unfinished and so I can't wait to see where you take it. I'm sure it will be weird and wonderful.

I stopped listening to a track not to my liking, clicked on this and instantly knew I was in the hands of people who know what they're doing, so settled back and enjoyed. The track is lovely from beginning to end, and the subtle nuances add up to something quite magical. Ed's guitar is the highlight for me; it's very, very, very beautiful and perfectly matched to everything else going on in the music, and seems perfectly placed in the mix. No wonder you guys collab a lot. CM
Really enjoyed this epic trek through badass guitar land. The playing is super great. This is not a criticism but the one thing I would do if this were my track is to try silencing the drums, possibly throughout but at least in the middle part after the break. The beat is in the guitars and, without the drum, you could hear every nuance a little bit better, and to me the guitar is like tangerine juice - you want every drop. Great work.
Are you saying no drums in the quiet section, before the distorted guitars come back in? And possibly after? Surely the ending drums have to stay, but I'll listen to it with the break percussion free and keep an open mind.
Dude, whoa. I mean, whah? THIS IS FUCKING BRILLIANT. Yes, I would like to hear some radass wailing guitar in the 2nd part, but then again i want wailing guitar in everything. From the first word I was mesmerized, and it never wavered. Never heard anything like it. I love it all but especially love the devil voice taunts. You're one trippy talented motherfucker.
I won't say no a wailing guitar haha. I strive for difference. Originality. So for you to say you haven't heard anything like it is a goal achieved. Trippy Talented Motherfucker is a name I choose to accept!
