on Back In Bed -Demo less Vocals- by VineSt
Something about this reminds me of a cross between Riders On The Storm and the Pink Panther song. The bass sounds like it's clipping a few times. The bass tone is the only problem here. Well written, just clips from plucks and drive. Like what you have going here, well balanced and cleaner sounding than what I get.

Thanks Evan, I'm hearing digital clip too. I'm putting of tracking the bass again until I put down some vocals this weekend. Thanks for the input my guy who was going to mix this didn't hear what you and I are hearing so good notice and thanks for lending your ear.

Just beautiful. This is something to be proud of. Tugs on the heart strings. You did a true honor. You honored your mother, and took a step towards healing yourself. Head high.

Thank you so much! Your words are too kind, but they fall at right time and place, and I take them to heart! :-)

Ah, personally, I love self deprecation, but it elicits a predisposition that you will suck. You do not. I dislike most modern music, or music played without real strings and fingers I should say. This was an interesting listen because you broke it up with a few distractions. Thank you for uploading here, you are a good kitty again. Good Kitty.

Again you impress. Is that accordion!? Lead at 0:57 is a bit too loud to my ears. Would like to hear the heavy stuff come in about twice as soon as it does. 15 sec or so. Very tasty stuff going on here. Love the crunch of the guitars!

Le songwriting est grand(super). La qualité du son est mauvaise. La chanson excellente, doit juste être refaite.

Singing and songwriting is fantastic.

Sound quality is atrocious. Lead guitar sound quality is a little better.

Voice sounds like it could be janis71. Very nice. Lacuna Coil feel to it.

Solos are pretty tasty. Again, great songwriting.

I hear this coming out of From Dusk Till Dawn. Very clear and tasty leads, like it a lot. Your backlog is about to be raided after the last few things I've heard from you.
Diggin it.

Thanks again for stopping by and leaving a comment.

I am slowly doing some remastering and eq on some of my older songs and giving them a few days on the featured track list to give some newer members a chance to hear some of my older material. Glad you are liking the tracks,

Cheers!

on Things That Have Never Been by StaticNomad
I can handle it!! But maybe later,... I'll try the sampler.

The beginning, before the banjo, reminds me of some late Floyd.

So many moments where I think your about to let loose, but you use restraint. Building the excitement. A very "drunk on a tropical island" feel. This would also be great kite flying music.

Guitar at 5:34 kind of slaps you in the face and wakes you back up. Says "Pay Attention!"

Nice interplay there at 8:47. I would have jumbled the crap out of that.

Ah! Right where it gets a darker feel it cuts off. I may have to visit the cloud. I like this one.

Evan
StaticNomad
StaticNomad replied 4th Dec 2013 - 11 years ago
If by "let loose" you mean "get heavy", I'm always looking to do that as I like the excitement it provides. There's much more heavy stuff in the second half of the 18 mins.

5:34 heavy section is perhaps my favourite in this half (yes, I agree with "Pay Attention!"). Kind of wish I'd got some of that heaviness in earlier. Not sure if you can tell, but it's mostly just putting the clean guitar you've hear for the previous bars through an overdriven software amp. With, obviously, a move to the crash cymbal. But those two things sort of makes it sound like a new part.

This track's bass is almost entirely bass guitar, which may interest you.

I have actually been drunk on a tropical island. Martinique in 1997. That's when I really learned about regular large amounts of alcohol not agreeing with me. Found myself having to give up for a couple of days just so that I could start again! The beer was even on tap at lunch in the Club Med I was in.

Thanks for noticing the 8:47 banj0-guitar interplay (love that short section). It was previously a lot jumblier but I spent ages editing both banjo (lots of fast runs there) and guitar to get them not to clash. What they're playing does clash (I played each separately, didn't intend for them to go together) but I just kept chopping notes out. They also both have delay which makes a mess more likely. That's another trick - remove the delay, even if just for a second or two, if things are getting too messy.

That's why, these days, I very rarely record delay with my guitar, bass or banjo (cos then you can't remove it). I add it in software afterwards so that I can control it very carefully. Also makes chopping up stuff as much as I do much easier.

See - you did have some useful points to make so thanks for making them.

I'm still not happy with the first couple of minutes in this one. Nice as it is, I think things should get rocking sooner. Maybe I'll do something about that but bit fed up of working on this right now.

Have fun with the full version. The extra minutes have most of the best rocking. There's even a very conscious key change in one section!

This very much sounds like it came from Desperado, or Once Upon A Time In Mexico. The whole thing is great, but I like the intro the most. The sounds of preparation, always a nice addition.

I write a lot of western/latin sounding songs and this one is just like you described it. That intro blew me away when I was putting it together. Then I asked myself, "where do I go from here?" lol

I appreciate that you stopped by. Thanks Evan!

Not sure if this falls under heavy metal or not. Rocktronica seems to be fitting, that's what most of my songs fall under I suppose. I like what you are doing with this. Guitar at 1:14 needs to be louder. Piano seems to be a touch early each time, starting at 1:43. I like the quick vocal sound at 2:00. "No", "Yo", whatever is said, nice timing.

I also question the statement in your description

"The goal is to make you think."
SDUB1
SDUB1 replied 27th Nov 2013 - 11 years ago
Well did I not succeed in my statement? You came with feed back that is greatly appreciated to say the least. Just note I am a ambassador for CHRIST. I am not the standard for anyone, but someone who appreciates what CHRIST has done for me and I just want to share the good news with the rest of the world. Again thank you for your time. I hope GOD HIMSELF will shed light on the subject. Grace and Peace!!!

on Religious Titles by SDUB1
Wow, do I look small from up there?

The production is rather good, a few gaps between samples, but my problem lies in the message, and I mean no disrespect. Your lyrics, well intended I'm sure, are basically saying that a person has no worth to you in this world unless they are of the same beliefs as you. This is a bigoted stance. I am in no way offended by it, I just don't understand it. Saying everyone is tainted who does not believe as you do. This is some very "Look down the nose" music. As I said before, production if fine, just don't like the message of worthlessness without fairy tale adherence. We are all the same, an atheist's blood could save your life one day. Hope it never comes to that.

Hello Evan

The point of the song is this. Every one is tainted with sin and everyone has to come to CHRIST to be cleansed from sin. Some people think because they have a religious affiliation, that qualifies them into heaven. I too had to come to CHRIST. Before that I was an unconverted roman catholic. Until I received from GOD the revelation of salvation. As the saying goes if you commit a crime you must do the time, but in the case of CHRIST HE paid it for you. The point is to be born again and be reconciled to GOD and have a relationship with HIM. Not just claim a title as the song states. We must call on GOD to saved from HIS righteous judgement. Not my opinion. Grace and Peace fam. And thanks for your thought.

The song writing does not seem to be the issue at all. As said before it's timing. Very impressive playing ability, just not worked out quite enough. The bass break is very out of time. If this is a live drummer you are using, have him re record the drums to a click and have everyone play off of that, or each use a click. It's my best friend.

Very impressed with the writing and the sweet guitar. Excited to hear it with improvements.

on Dwarfts singing by ElenaSatine
OK, this needs to be said. This track should come with a warning. It's way to catchy. Gets stuck in your head easily.

I listened to this around 730 this morning before work. Loved it. It's great.....Got stuck in my head.

Around 12 o'clock, the luster had worn off. Four hours of dwarves singing an odd version of Wipe Out. Still, in my head it remained.

By the time I was driving home at 5 o'clock, I was ready to open a vein. I could not shake it.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with your track. It's like an entity that creeps in and decides to stay a while.

But do not fear!!! I used the old fail safe. I played My Sharona really loud through the headphones. It has a way of replacing stuck songs!!!

Let this be a warning to you all!!!

Oh yes, my friend. I like this a lot. Big fan of progressive anything, just so long as it is in a state of constant flux. This is a very impressive translation, and seems like the instruments are writing a song, and the guitar hops off the stand and lays the smack down, shows them how it's done. The guitar sounds like keyboard though. No matter. The writing here is just great! You are now one I will be watching,..... not in a creepy way though. Loved it.

Haha. That's alright to be watched. I'm into that....joking. Anyhow, I'm glad you checked out this track. It was very thought out and fun to do. I believe the last half, which is the Jazz guitar to the end is my favorite. And yes, it was done with a keyboard. It was my first attempt at using FL studio along with my keyboard along. I'm very pleased to see that you, a friendly and awesome listener, thought it was great. Perhaps I shall make a better version of this soon. Thank you, Evan!

on Soul With a Capital S by ScottFranco
Man, that bass guitar is killer!!! I saw it was MIDI, but I had to change my ears' pants after 5 seconds! I wish I could play like that, but I cam at the bass from the wrong direction. As a guitar rather than foundation and percussion.
Enjoyed this a lot.

Evan
ScottFranco
ScottFranco replied 18th Nov 2013 - 11 years ago
Thanks allot, Evan. Yeah, that is a cool bass line. It works well with my drums. I've worked with many good bass players and some guitar players make very good bass player, but you have to approach both instruments differently. When you do this, your bass playing will improve. If you play a bass like a guitar, you are just playing a very low guitar!

Cheers,
Scott
