Very creative stuff here!
I'm travelling along the music (in my mind - I should actually be asleep and not killing sleeping time in front of the computer) and enjoying the trip.
You are one of those musical picture painters here I gather, this is even more like a movie though.
Very talented.
Thank you CJ for your time.
Yes I have these urges to create landscapes feelings dimensions moods etc.
I'm going to keep practising and practising some more .... once the mojo is wound up again.
Hi again Orlando!
I'm a bit lazy so I'm lending some quotes from the fellow loopers to express my feelings for this masterpiece:
"ethereal"
"darkness is another form of light"
"a master of painting musical pictures for the mind"
"truly melodious"
Especially "darkness is another form of light" is what this is. And I think Soundhound should get a special price for that line.
Oh, you lazy girl...:)This time your laziness is excused for generously calling this a masterpiece (although it's not). But Soundhound really deserves the price you mentioned!:)
I just wrote a long comment which just disappeared!
Well, anyway.
The intro until 0:40 love it love it love it!
GREAT vocal and I agree that your tone of voice suites all these dance genres really well, not just hardstyle (which I really don't know that much about and don't even like perticularly) but you should really try some vocal house type of genre also.(Maybe you have already, I've been away!)
The lead synth sounded good when filtered and toned down but I didn't like it that much in the full blown energy parts. It's sounding so squeeky (right word?) and kind of flat. But I guess that's hardstyle for you...
Also congratz for the collab, this will be great exposure!
It's no doubt a great song with your vocal being the star of it.
Hey Spiv, this is super cool!
The synth sound that comes in occasionally (in stereo?) made me believe that I accidently had some other song coming through in the background and I tried to locate it for a while, with no success.=D
Unique and very you all together.
There are some frequensis in there that hurt the ear a bit but it also adds to the feeling of the song, hearing and sensing at once.
Heh, you must be talking about the spontaneously performed circuit bent glitch synth, otherwise I wouldn't be sure.... Definitely is a very stereo aspect. Like someone else mentioned, it sounds "out of place." It was sort of like a time travel aspect, while remaining "in the same place"... which doesn't always mean the same thing. I've always been a fan of frequency therapy, and I guess I try to carry that into my songs. Every frequency has a significant effect, and if it hurt, it may reveal something within you... something you can remember. You really nailed it with "hearing and sensing at once" and I appreciate the meaningful comment, and of course your listen! Thank you!
Joe this is brilliant!
Highly magical sounds you've created here. That molding sound in the beginning going in endless circles is stunning...loved all about this track.
I'm not missing any rap vocals here anyways.
This sounds just great as it is!
Seriously grooving for the dance floor.
Great vocal chops and effects - you are really good at this.
Love the flute or what ever it is!
I just dived in to this music and did other stuff while listening without even realizing it and when the music stopped I woke up and had to listen again and again...very smooth and pleasent listening experience, as if the music belongs inside my brain and has to be played in the background.
Had the same experience with some tracks from StaticNomad recently.
Strange phenomenom.
Hi there!
I'm watching the video just now and you guys look great in it! Also very professional looking and sounding all of it.
I don't think I've ever heard the original track but I like your version a lot.
Hi Steve!
You really have your own unique sound and I'm a big fan of it already. This track is no exception - enjoyable all the way through. My favourite part is the third section where you bring it all together with the rain pouring down in the background.
And I love the d&b drums and bass!
I'm glad you liked it. I love to compose tracks using female vocals -- nature sounds will always find their way in too. This leads to a dreamy/escapist energy that I just love to play with.
Thanks SJ! Actually I am using the same drum software (EZdrummer), that's why it may sound quite similar. Also I tried to use drum kits fully but of course it is still a track freely inspired by his music.
Very enjoyable!
Loved all the sounds coming in and out, great melodies and chord progressions.
Something is happening with the sound in the beginning though at 0:46. Is it distortion? But nevermind! Awesome all the same. Have to loop this for a while so I'm downloading - thanks!
Cheers/ SJ =)
It's crazy creative, this one. Enjoyed listening!
I'm wondering a bit though if you purposely don't care about having the different sound elements in tone which each other or not. Maybe we'll never no.
Maybe it's not even important!
They all said it already - get out there and do your thing (when you are done with what ever it is you are doing right now).
This is top notch in every way already, no matter the technical issues you wrote about.
Hi Static!
I've been looping the last 90 seconds for a while now. That has to be the best I've heard in a long time. Not very found of the violin chops but they are OK too. You should have gone crazy with the chops and turned it into raging DnB piece with wobbles or something.
Very nice drum line and percussion throughout the track also, definitely dance-friendly.
Yes, as I've said - last 90s secs are my favourite section and should go on forever. I used some great fun cheating on that last section (because I'm a very average keys player). I run Cubase with Reason (have done since 2001) so Reason is responsible for 90% of my synth sounds.
One quite cool thing you can do in Reason, and it's the cheat I used here, is that you can just take any MIDI notes and then randomize them. But not totally random - it doesn't produce out of key/discordant notes, it just randomly moves the notes around based on the notes that are already there. Kind of swapping their positions and lengths. I used that a lot to add variety to those last 90 secs.
But, I'm confused (and have been a lot in my many in-depth replies to people's complaints/queries on this track/my working method) as you say you didn't like the violin chops. But they're the main feature of those last 90 secs! I don't know how you can like that section without liking the violins - the lead part.
"raging DnB piece with wobbles or something"
Sure, I could have done something like that but I'm trying hard to keep things under about 11 minutes these days. Y'know, just neat little pop singles ready for the radio and all that.
You can hear the synth bass doing wobbling at various points in the track, starting quite early on, actually.
Yes, I'm not really a dance guy but almost everything I do is based around deep grooves so I guess you can dance to it. I just don't make specifically dance-oriented music but am very influenced by it. Any music with a good groove, really. I like jazz, swing, funk, metal, blues, shuffle grooves etc and use all of them. Country trainbeat is cool too and so on...
This is probably my most obvious dance track on the site. One of my few pure electro ones. Not guitar, bass or banjo. Synths only.
Hello friend!
Oh what a potpourri from 60s and 70s this is!
I haven't been paying attention in the forums lately but I saw the JoeFunktastic remix competion just now - is that what this is?
I LOVE that flute or what ever it's called! Great compilation.
