Needs work dude, it's not as bad as Judah says (listen to his most recent track, he can fuck right off).
The work is needed most in the mix and a few tweaks to the transitions, metal is difficult to mix and have it sound great, very difficult, I would be willing to try my hand at mixing it and maybe even add some accompanying vocals and tweaks.
If that interests you, send me a PM with the stems uploaded somewhere, preferably with as little effects on the tracks as possible.
Thanks for the positive vibe brother ! if you want to dip your fingers in , I will dig up the stems and send them your way soon. I am looking forward to working on this with you and learning some new stuff in the process. Thanks for your time and keep rocking \m/
I'm only listening on my headphones (KRK 8400s) right now, so take this with a pinch of salt, but I feel the bottom end could do with a boost, I know it's difficult managing sub in this type of production but with a few techniques, it's possible and my god is it powerful.
Feel free to shoot me a message if you feel I could help any :)
I'll be browsing your page when time permits, phenomenal work dude.
Hey man, how's it goin?
First, thank you! I'm glad you liked it.
I will take a listen to your tracks as soon as I get home.
I recently deleted most of my work here. I like to keep a clean house, so to speak. But if you want to hear the rest of my work, find me (Valvedriver) on Soundcloud. I have all my tracks up there. It's a pretty eclectic mix.
I'll take another listen to this to check the lower end. But if you're using KRK's there's a good chance you're not picking it up. I know mine have a hard time with the low end. Either way, I'll definitely look into it. Thank you for the suggestion.
Excellent description!! There's no shortage of horrors we endure. Nature and music can be so calming and healing. I wasn't with with anything I was playing last night so thought I'd try this after seeing one on you tube done a 6 string but they kept hitting sour notes. Addicted to the beautiful sound of cbgs!!! Thanks Metabolic :p
:p I love the pellas available there. They're all attribution, non commercial but I don't make money on music and prefer to credit the artists anyway. I'm going to have to do something with some more Lovecraft stuff. Already did one for Cthululu and Yog Sothoth. Maybe Azagthoth will be up next.
Do you ever visit ccmixter? The spoken word pella is from there, likely been used in other's songs over the years. Been so busy with work, hopefully this weekend I can properly mix this. Thanks Metabolic. Did you ever get to do anything with the rats in the walls?
Hey Metabolic, There's so much bottom on these guitars it does require a bit of trial and error to get a decent sound tonewise. I'm working with a Fractal Audio Axe FX II and Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier. Set relatively high on gain for drive and distortion levels, lots of midrange, a healthy amount of treble for clarity. This is more Progressive Metal Djent than Sludge though. Thanks for the comment bro.
Good to hear you liked this though it's not surprising as I know you love your heavy shit.
I didn't think anyone would notice/mention those early ride hits. Just a bit more activity on top of some unspectacular, simple guitar and bass riffage. First minute is all about getting rid of that riffage and progressing drums into full, banging swing mode, taking in blastbeats along the way.
"I get the feeling a Stoner, who managed to bypass the lazy effects, got a boost of confidence and thought fuck it, I'll be me, come at me universe. "
That's a very interesting and intriguing and somewhat far out sentence. Are you saying I'm normally lazy with my use of effects? I'm still using reverb and delay and stuff here but no doubt in a more restrained way than usual. Yes, it does sound like it has more balls and as though spacey effects aren't needed. Not when there's this much power on display.
"So much happening, yet very cohesive."
Thanks. I had to work really hard at that as the track had been sitting on my hard drive for years in a crappy, messy, overly loud state. So much trimming and tweaking and crossfading between bits of chopped up audio (ie guitar parts).
"The drums just get better and better, jazz/heavy metal."
Yes, I think the jazz connection is simply the cool, swing groove. I think you can dance to it.
Yes, mental ending. I just had to take things up another level and really go out with a crazy blast. The track deserves it and I'm wondering how I can make stuff go even heavier and madder without getting totally out of control. Something to work on in my next heavy track, though I don't really currently have one on the go.
I'll try to make more tracks like this but it's not my main sort of style so it might be a long time before I make anything like this again.
I've been ducking LM for a while, but I had to listen..
Oooshhh sexeh, I've got a gig on Halloween, I'm going to see if this fits into my set, I've got space for one more track.
That switch up at 1:30 was smooth af. Your tracks are becoming a lot more cohesive... We really need to make a track together :D
In fact I'm building a track right now, I'm failing with the basses but destroying the drums, let me know if you'd be interested in fucking around with it :D
You have potential so I'll give you advice rather than critique.
Give your sounds more attention, fatten them out a lot.. Your snare was like a whimpy frog in mild discomfort.
Was that a sub? Take it to McDonald's and make it fatter! Google will help.
EQ, compression, limiting.. Learn it, do it.
As for your excuse, there's no excuse! I work 50-70 hours as a chef and I make time, I make time because it's a compulsion, it's like breathing to me.
I know this sounds harsh but don't take it as such.
Heeeeeee Metabolic thanks for the advice i will try to remember to listen to this when I need to calm down which in my case could be often, :) best regards
Thanks Metabolic. This little -yeah I´ll do a halloween track for you (took over 3 and a half hours) is finding some legs. New software and a new computer is helping me with the process. Thanks for stopping bye.

To have a real open mind is really important and i'm glad you're one of these :)

tHANKS mET. iT'S A BIT OLD NOW AND i HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING FOR MONTHS DUE TO ILNESS.i'M RECOVERING AND TRYING TO GET MY CREATIVE HEAD ON AGAIN. tHANKS FOR YOUR TIME.
Ha ha, yep I know that I am mad. It is well documented. Since requesting my medical records, I even find that I have a documented mental illness which I was unaware of... why they felt that I shouldn't be told is beyond me! I understand why you can not make sense of it, but I assure you it makes perfect sense to me. heh. Techno and industrial were definitely big influences in beginning my travels into electronic music, although the German stuff is only becoming a big influence. "Well done" and "What the Fuck" are both things which I would gladly accept, and things which I hear pretty often together. Unintentional head mashing is probably okay too... "It's hard to keep your feet dry when kicking in a skull." Thanks for listening!
Don't know what glitch category this can be :D. Yeah bottle thingy is awesome, i just randomly included it for lulz, turned out to be an amazing ending sound.
I'm in love with the South, it's music has such an eldritch quality to it. Beautiful to my ears and you capture it like a swampy baws.
Low, slow and dark, I wish my brain could calm down and make some down-tempo darkness like this, teach me master.
Of course Lovecraft comes to mind, The Call Of Cthulhu, the section where the detective and his men interrupt the "voodoo" gathering.. The sounds in distant, the lurking fear. Yes.
So much emotion in music from south, being so rich in history. I love the ghostly, melancholic tone of the lone cigar box guitar playing. That's where these cigar box guitars originated, there and with the mountain people, people too poor to afford instruments so they made them. LOL! 'master' *blushes* Funny, before I came home and recorded this I was listening to some very fast paced black metal, there's only a few bands in that genre I really like 3:D> This song in particular https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qcn3WbidU8I fkn LOVE this stuff!! Just play/compose what your soul tells you, concious thought fks it all up, if I think I fk up. Fast, slow whatever comes out,let the music tell you where it wants to go. If you brain says play fast, just go with it :p Sometimes I play fast but seems the slower darker stuff really gets me going! My Dying Bide (older stuff) always gets me inspired. All improv, bass was done in one take. I hit record and played along. Guitar took 3 takes cuz I kept hitting some wrong notes when I slid way up and I hate editing!! I need to do some more Lovecraft themed stuff, I smell a collab ;) I have the rats in the walls on my player. The doom that came to Saranath is another good one or the music of Erik Zahn. Bowed cigar box guitar would make a great violin substitute. I wonder what bowed banjo would sound like, have to try it. Slide banjo is neat but I keep hitting the frets because of the low action.
I think our styles would combine into something massive, when my work loads lessens I may be interested in doing a few collabs, you being at the top of my list.

I get the feeling a Stoner, who managed to bypass the lazy effects, got a boost of confidence and thought fuck it, I'll be me, come at me universe.

Oof, that ending was powerful.
