Well the fat panned bass is already sounding good as is the guitar. I can't believe you use magix software. #i bought a copy and i think it sucks but i guess i just don't know what to do with it as this sounds bloody brilliant. I'm sitting here nodding my head inanely but for good reason. Like those little "searching, loving" vocal drops. It sounds a little like something paul oakenfold might throw together and that's meant as a compliment.
Bloody goooooooooooooood!

on AZZYKO - ZOMBIE feat Farisha by AZZYKO
I always enjoy stopping by your profile so i thought i'd give your latest one a blast. Nice intro with the chopped up vocal. It sits niceley over the top of the melody. I like the dub melody and there's some excellent synth work going on with the "yi yi yi's" and the growls. You've put together another smashing piece of dubstep here and i like it.

on Proximal Vicinity Spivkurl Mix 13B Master B by Spivkurl
Hey spiv. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I've not been online much lateley. This is sounding really nice, not what i'm used to from you. There's some awesome pads and great atmospheres going on here and now here comes the bass. For some reason it reminds me a little of Leftfields "melt" well it did until the guitar came in and now it's taken on a whole new twist. This is very good indeed and so different from what i've ever heard you do before.
Definitely a fav. The production is spot on, the arrangement is superb and the ideas are brilliant.
I'm really enjoying listening to this and i definitely want to hear it again.

Hey FR, thank you for the visit! Apologies for the long wait on the reply. I definitely can't take credit for the ideas, or in truth the arrangement, as ShortBus had all of that taken care of for us. His playing and sound design was excellent, and every part was complimentary. I'm happy that you enjoyed this one, and you might just like the version which Mark Ratcliffe performed on as well. Thanks again!

on The forgotten symphony by johnnyproducing
Nice dark bit of piano playing. There's plenty of emotion going on which is what this type of stuff needs. Niceley in with the string section. There's a ton of good stuff going on here. Are you actually playing that? Or is it programmed? Either way i like the way it changes around the 2:30 mark. the melody carries really well and then the stings bring it up another level again.
Really nice piece.
FR

johnnyproducing replied 17th Sep 2014 - 11 years ago
Well I play parts on my keyboard and from there on decide which direction I take it too (Don't do that in every track though but works especially well with piano tracks ;) )
And from there on I program them further and add different touches, this piano would else be only suitable in a duet since it uses notes between the chords which would else be close to impossible to play I think.
Here you have some insight on my way of working haha

But I am glad you liked it and appreciate the comment a lot
:)
Thanks ;)

Dig that rhodes keyboard. the intro reminds me a little of something from houses of the holy by led zeppelin. I like the simplicity of the piece, the way you've blended the keys with that heavy bass and percussion is excellent.
This is a very calming track and now i feel like i could just shut up my lap top and drift off into a peacefull sleep (and i don't mean that the track is boring)
Very nice piece.

hi and thanks for the nice comment. I checked out 'houses of holy' by LZ. It sounds quite different but maybe you could precise what is similar in there to my track... anyway I just updated my track: adding vocals, percussions and drums...
More groovy and chill now...
Thanks again,

Yeah, digging those old school flavours. I love deep house so this is right up my street. The organ is well retro and you've built around it niceley and then that piano breakdown works well too. I could be back in 1992 listening to this.
Great track.

Nice intro but i like it even better when it gets going. That's an ace melody, nice bassline and good choice of pads. Like the way that it builds as it goes along and dig the choice of sounds as well. You've blended this all together really well and there's enough changes going on to keep it interesting.
Great track.

Digging that low heavy bass with the percussion. This reminds me a little of massive attack and i like them so thats a good comparison.
Also a little different from what i'm used to from you. You do this style well with the breaks in all the right places, lots of nice trippy backgrounds and just dam good all round really.

on cosmic love by zombieme
I like a bit of drum and bass so those swirling pads and heavy bassline are a nice thing to wake up to this morning. I can feel it building now, yeah nice sweet atmosphere, it's pretty chilled for a d&b piece but it all gels together really nicely. Your pad work is excellent throughout and the mix is crystal clear. I like the way it has kind of a dubby vibe to it with a futuristic sounding overlay. The samples are nice as well, where did you get those from?
Great track.

From the intro this is sounding really good. Nice chilled out jazzy vibes going on with some excellent rhodes keyboard.

I see i've already reviewed this but i thought i'd check it out again. Your bass work is superb. I don't know how you get it to sound that punchy without drowning the other sounds out. I like the twisted noises going on around the bass, it sounds kind of like a violin on acid or something.
Good work as always spiv.

Hey thanks friend for the comment! I guess I don't recall what exactly made the bass so isolated, but I do know that it was sampled from a one-shot... I'll say just that. Was a fun song to create for sure, so I'm happy that you enjoy listening! Take care!

This is sounding really good. Wasp is quite a difficult synth to get good sounds out of and for some reason i don't have harmless so i can't comment on the sounds from that. Like the side chaining effect you used on the synth and the melodies are great.

I'm hardly the best authority on dubstep but this sounds cool. I like that metallic percussive sound and the melody rocks. Nice bit of sampling going on with the "hey hey" and the general vibe of the track is great. I like the way you keep adding layers of funky noises and effects as well.

on Only time will tell - featuring MuzicIzMee4Ever by RichieWinn
The intro reminded me a little of an Eric Clapton track and then Patricia comes in and it takes on it's own vibe. Crystal clear recording which is what i've come to expect from you. Niceley in with the drum layering. It sounds like you were both in the studio at the same time which i guess is the aim of the game. The guitars are nice with that subtle wah wah effect and you've really made patricia shine. You've got a great ear for putting a tune to an acapella and this track demonstrates that perfectly.
Simply awesome.

Hey FR

Firstly my apologies for taking so long to respond to your posting. It's just so busy at the moment.

Yes, you are dead right. The intro is very Eric Clapton and inspired (stolen?) from Wonderful Tonight. Patricia makes the song all hers after a couple of bars of singing - what an enormous talent.

I'm so pleased and very much rewarded by your comments here. I do try to keep the tracks clean and aim for a good crisp sound. Working with one of Patricia's acapellas is the nearest I get to working in the same studio as her but if it sounds like that I'm very very pleased. Thank you.

Again my apologies for the late reply.

Best regards

Richie

It's weird, every now and then I get a comment which doesn't alert me by email... such as this one. Oh well. Very much appreciate your words here, so thank you for that! Nice to have an Aphex comparison, even though I don't really listen to that stuff in recent years. That part of my life can burn in hell... heh. I love sampling SO MUCH, especially when I can make a sweet sounding bass line from just a one shot like this. Yes, smoke it up to this one! When listening to my album, I recommend a double espresso to start with, followed by a very large joint. Thanks for the comment!

You always know your gonna get something good on Richie Winns profile and this is no exception. Very professionally done working around those vocals. Pauline certainly can belt a tune out and your mixing skills have really brought it all to life. Dig that string section interlude and the guitar soloing as well. Crispy clean and done like a true pro.

Nice build up at the beggining, followed by a decent synth riff and nice bassline as well. There's some cool keys going on now and it just keeps building. I like the noise efx as well. I would have liked to have heard the hats come in a bit earlier as they're what make a tune jack and you waited until right at the end to introduce them. Other than that i like the track.

on i can see your eyes by clindsay
Nice intro. It has a prog house kind of feel to it. That vocal is ace as well as is the melody. It reminds me a little of Orbital. The sampling is really cool and for some reason i'm wishing i was stoned listening to this. Perhaps it's because it's a really nice floaty track. I'm digging that percussion/piano combo going on in the final part.

on That Magical Place by StaticNomad
Great stuff from you again. I'm hearing Orbital influence in this one with that ace arp work. Dig the vibe, dig the melody but i think the percussion is my favourite part. The guitar is cool, it has an almost kazoo kind of effect to it, backed up with some nice distortion. Now it's all gone a bit hectic and momentarily the "chill out" vibe was no more.
Quite a short one by your standards but no less a cracker (as usual)
FR
StaticNomad
StaticNomad replied 13th Aug 2014 - 11 years ago
Word, FreeRad.

Yes, I totally agree about Orbital. There's a particular track or two that really remind me of some of my tinkly, delayed arps in this. But I cannot remember which one/s!

Not intention to emulate those Orbital chaps - just how it came out at the time.

"percussion is my favourite part"

I'm guessing you mean the djembe part. Maybe also the fat drum loop starting on 0:30. Or maybe just all the drums.

"guitar is cool, it has an almost kazoo kind of effect to it,backed up with some nice distortion"

No idea which section you're talking about. I think you must be mistaking some other synth sound for guitar. No distortion on any guitar parts in this. And there aren't many guitar parts.

Kazoo vibe perhaps comes from the flutes on 1:00.

"Now it's all gone a bit hectic"

You know I love to do that. I see the track as a big, funky chiller but it also seemed to lend itself to being made much heavier (and with double time drums, so up to 190 BPM).

Yes, short by my standards but this was the extended last 3 mins of a 14 min track that I chopped off. So, that one's now only about 11.5 mins. Had to restrain myself in adding more stuff to this one. Very easy to do!

Good for me to have a bunch of mid length tracks so that not everything I do is a lengthy epic. I still think this is a bit of an epic, just done in 5.5 mins.

Glad you enjoyed my no less of a cracker.
