Yes i have commented on this track already but since it popped up in the featured track box i thought i'd press play and comment on it again.
For some reason i keep repeating this phrase to myself "I've got to get the hang of that bloody Ableton live"
It will happen one day, oh yes it will!
Anyway, i still think this is great and the explosion at the end just seals the deal.
Actually, on that note i have a mate who's just started up a business that sells landmines that look like prayer matts. He says prophets have been going through the roof.
FR
Haha..man,I love that Clash line in Rockin the Casbah..."drop your bombs amongst the minarets"..plenty of profits to be had with the demise of a few prophets!....actually mate Ableton, like a lot of DAW's is quite intuitive once you get rolling, the thing is it's something that is better taught face to face..if they invent teleportation I could get you up and running in an hour easy!..cheers Dave
I saw this pop up in the featured section and thought i'd write another comment. I was actually playing this in the car the other day and i couldn't remember who it was. So although i might be a forgetfull c**t it just goes to show that your track blends in niceley with all the other "professional" (lucky b4$tards) tracks that i have on my MP3.
I must do some work with Mr Leachim sometime. He's very good isn't he?
Happy Sunday!
FR
Well what can i say? I'll tell you what i can say............
Fantastic work! I like the down tempo jazzy vibe to the music and your singing voice is superb (So good in fact i had to dive straight in and see if you'd uploaded any accapellas i could play with. Drat says i!)
I'm listening on rubbish speakers at present and i can tell this tune is worth listening to again on a propper sound system so i'm going to do it the justice it deserves and return when the rest of the house is awake. (Or i might just wake 'em all up with this)
Superb piece of music!
FR
This would be a really nice track if it wasn't for that distortion on it. i dunno if you wanted it to sound like that but personally i would have preferred it if you'd just dropped the gain down a little and made it smooth.
Musically it's a really good arrangement. Once you've taken care of the noise this will be spot on.
FR
Everything in this track is wicked. Reminds me of a the stuff i was going chicken oriental to before age caught up with me.
I would suggest swapping the kick drum for a more punchy sounding one but that's the only thing i would alter. Everthing else is 'avin it!
FR
Thanx for such a lovely reveiw FR my friend. It's good to know you enjoyed the track. Maybe I will remix again & try something different with the drums ? Thanx for the advice on that. As ever you stopping by is greatly appreciated mate.
I like you Richie. You have that natural ability to take a sound or a vocal and pull a whole track out of it with style and finesse.
Everything is on point, well played and i see this being on target for reviews and downloads a plenty.
Hats off to you!
FR
I am truly grateful for the compliments you pay me - thank you. So rewarding to have comments and observations like this.
Stephanie is a real talent and I enjoyed this collaboration. Hope she does too!! Being "on point" is a brilliant insight into what I try to achieve with my songs. Style and finesse? That knocks me out. I suppose I aspire to polished perfection (hell, does that sound pompous? hope not).
This is bloody brilliant mate. Nice to see someone taking a different approach to the rap genre. The vocals remind me a little of massive attack and the musics a bit left fieldy (two bands i rate very highly)
So you see, It's worth going off on a random one sometimes. It gets people to check out your stuff.
What a track for my first of the day.
FR
Hey, FR, sorry I hadn't replied but been out of town for a couple of days. Thank you so much for the positives, coming from someone that I highly regard is a real treat,…. if you can spare the time, check out all night long, it has taken me 8mths to get it together. Muchas Gracias! Jam
This is some pretty mental stuff going here dude. It's sort of contemporary drum and bass. You might want to put a patent on that before someone robs it.
It's nice to hear someone break the mould with something that works for a change.
Niceley done.
FR
hey man, thanks! To be honest I really didnt know what style to tag it with... what do you think? I've no idea how to patent anything! Appreciate your time taken to listen and comment v much!
Another bloody good effort here Wongki. in fact i've never heard anything you've done that doesn't sound great.
There's an almost oriental kind of feeling to this at times which is a nice touch.
Who's Logan P then? Another member? I must check him out sometime.
Thumbs up homie!
FR
Logan P - I don't know his username on looperman, but that's the name he goes by on soundcloud.
He contacted me a couple of months ago to do some mixing and mastering for him and I was bit disappointed by what came over to me. His tracks were raw, but *full* of potential and by the 3rd one (this one) I took matters into my own hands and sorted out the bass, pads, structure, percussion, filters, FX etc etc annnd this was the result. It came to me as 12 tracks and left me at just over 30 I think lol
He'll be an awesome producer in a couple of years time - just needs some finesse :)
This really does sound like a pro effort now. It was good anyway but now it's really good.
You should get some test pressings made up and mail this out to a few pro DJ's. i reckon the likes of Rampling, Morales and Tenaglia would drop this tune to name but a few.
Mr Mahloo did a great job with the mastering, What was it? Pro tools?
Anyway, this is the first "no download" tune i've heard all year that's actually worth nicking so there's an accolade in it's self ha ha!
FR
It's amazing what a good mix and master can do to a track isn't it? I used FL studio to do the track, as for what Mahloo does his end, I haven't a clue. What ever it is though, it bloody works.. lol. As for sending it to big DJ's - I'm hoping I won't need to ;)
Don't worry that you haven't started the remix yet man, just do it whenever - I'll be honest, I haven't started on yours yet either lol
Well you said in the review you gave me that you're pretty new to this so i'll kick off by saying you're off to a good start. You've clearly got a good understanding of filtered sounds, pitch shifters and making subtle changes to keep the track interesting.
I like the way you haven't over saturated it with sounds and the acid box lick has clearly had a lot of time and attention to detail spent on it. i don't normally find that many positive points to kick off a review with so you should be proud of yourself there.
Now, I don't like to just a$$ kiss with my reviews so what i would suggest you could do to improve this is concentrate on getting the stuff that's going on in the background up another level. What i mean is the drum section seems to rely on just a kick and a hat. I reckon a nice filtered breakbreak over the top of what you've done would fill it out niceley and give it that extra bit of "bite" that it deserves.
Oh and i'd definitely say this is a "techno" track as opposed to electro.
Nice work, keep it up and you'll get where you want to be.
FR
Thank you so much for the response, it is great to hear another voice on it! I am working with the drums and snares right now, trying to add a little more for change up. I am finding it hard to keep my tracks consistent. I struggle coming into drops or change-ups using the same same rhythm and similar sounds. I, again, really appreciate the feedback, I have been listening to more of your tracks, they sound awesome. I'm picking up some good ideas. I will be sure to comment on more of your songs, though my advice may not be as helpful being newer to music than you. I uploaded a new song, this time to techno. If you have the chance and want to listen to it I would greatly appreciate it!
vocally this is very good (not that i understand a word of it) the music that goes with it is good as well and it has the potential to be a great track.
The thing that lets it down for me is the placement of the sounds. The vocal is so prominent that it almost completely drowns out the music at times. If you do a bit of balancing and equalizing then that would get the quality of the track to shine through.
It's in there, It just needs digging out.
FR
You've got some good ideas, but for me personally the track could use a few more layers to bring it to life. Apart from the kick drum there's nothing going on in the bass area so that would be a good place to start.
Maybe a few more percussion sounds would help as well.
It's a good start but there's room for improvement.
FR
This is a nice chilled out piece of music. You've layed the vocals niceley over the top and blended it all together really well.
Personally i think changing the genre to "chill out" would be a good idea as spoken word kind of gives the impression that it's going to be a musicless bit of poetry or something.
Just a thought.
Anyway, niceley done.
FR
It's quite mad checking out older stuff sometimes. Great melodies and synth work in this tune but it's a little crowded round the low ends. I bet it wouldn't be if you made it again now though. Your newer stuff is crystal clear.
Not knocking this tune though. Love that "man with no name" style synth and the whole vibe of it just says "turn me up"
Get in there!
I'm haven't listened to this for a while so thought it was about time i did.
I've not seen anyone likened to annie lennox, robert miles and groove armada on the same page before. Personally groove armada sounds most appropriate to me.
You should offer this up for a remix Shan. That would get the forums buzzing. Just an idea.
Anyway, i thought i remembered this being great and it is.
FR
This is a pretty angry piece of music mate. It kind of growls and snarls at you like a rabbid rotweiler.
Distorted basses to tear your speakers apart!
I would have liked to have heard a bit more round the drum/percussion area but that's just my taste. I guess the idea was to reflect your bad experience and it comes through in this grinding track.
FR
Well you haven't got rusty in your time off then. This is the best hip hop tune i've listened to for ages!
It's stragight in there with no messing about and flows seemlessly from start to finish.
Impressive track.
FR
Thanks for the kind words man. Im glad you dig the track. Honestly I did feel a little rusty while putting this together. Was forgetting where things were within the DAW I use but after awhile it was back to normal. Like riding a bike.
Doesn't sound like you need any help on the arrangement to me. Patrica always sounds good but you've made her sound even better.
Old school vibes all the way!
A pleasure to listen to.
FR
Thanks a lot!
It sounds oldskool, but maybe is how it have to be,nice point of view.
I was interested on how the voice sounds, very pleased about your comment about it,at least it's a new way to hear her voice.
Thank you again.
This is infectious. I've always liked funk but can't seem to get my sh*t together when i try to make it. I liked the way you alternate between the male and female vox.
It flows niceley in to the breakdown which switches the vibe before funking back in again and getting your feet tapping.
That's why i hate it anyway. (joke)
Good song writing skills mate. Being a techy i don't often pay attention to words but in this case your concept grabbed me.
I think we're all pretty sick of working for minimum wage and been slung in a cell when we disagree with the f*c*kers.
Anyway, I liked the into but then when the guitar started it gave it another new level of depth.
This is a fine effort mate.
FR
I like this as far as the music and the drummings concerned but it could do with a little work in the eq section.
The drums and the guitar are both hanging around in the mid to low area and drown each other out.
If you add a few more high frequencies to the guitar and maybe drop the lows a little it would sound heaps better.
There's good potential here.
FR
Well i can see why this has got loads of comments already. It's a bit old school and then it isn't. It keeps strutting from one thing to another. i love the choice of percussion and the bass is heavy.
What is that metal sheened sample saying by the way?
Does it really matter? No! the track rocks!
FR
Thanx again for such a lovely reveiw Free. LOL not sure what you mean about the metal sheen tho' ? Ha ha something along the lines of "o o o yeah, I saw you over there", TBH I ain't got a clue! It was a vocal sample that I found then put loads of effects onto. Yup I went drum & percussion mental on this one and loved every moment of it. My friend I really appreciate you taking time to listen & reveiw. Peace, love & justice to ya mate.
This is NICE and twisted. I'm sitting right in front of my bass bins and i've just smoked a fat one so that bass is going right through me. I can't understand why i'm only the second downloader really. Dig the pitch shifted pump up the jam sample with the time stretch and, well all of it really.
This is an excellent tune!!!
FR
Well this is a pleasant suprise. You remind me a little of Kate Bush the way you reach those high notes. Excellent song writing skills as well. I particularly liked the part where you introduced that fat sounding synth.
Great work
Now, the cheeky part.....i don't suppose you'd be game for having this remixed at all would you?
