This is a fine piece of craftsmanship if i may say so. I like the way you've taken an almost trance like approach to the track.
Those pads are excellent as is the synth work.
You've got a lot of interesting ideas and the mixing skills to pull it off.
Spot on.
FR
"Give me some"! This is well retro. Loving the silky smooth production which never seems to go astray in you mixes.
It reminds me a little of the Eurithmics "sweet dreams" or something from that kind of era.
If you could find a vocal it would be the icing on this particular cake. There's nothing to pick fault with the track so that's all i can suggest really.
Great work and i also have to say, congratulations on achieving your world record for most profile pictures posted in a first week. Bravo!
FR
FR
my man FR...i wanted you to know that i appreciate the way you come through for me comment wise and as usual, your comments are uplifting and thanks for stopping by..i know its been awhile since ive replied to this but you know in this business one can get really busy with projects(got to pay those bills)..once again thank you for stopping by...i must come and visit you soon...
Loving your deep analogue bass grooves throughout the track. Dark and heavy. Your mix quality is nice and clean. It would be great if you could find a vocal to go over it because that would sound extra fat.
Nice piece of tunage!
FR
Digging this piece. This reminds me off the stuff we used to 'av it large to back in the day.
Nice breakbeat patterns and that drop into the guitar riff was a nice touch.
I love the oldschool flavour of this track.
Rock Mustard!!!
FR
There's a lot of good things going on here. I like the melodies (especially the choir type thingamy jig (yeah i know my technical talk like the back of my hand)
There's lots going on in the way of beat switches which keeps the track interesting.
I would suggest that a little bit of percussion to accompany the drums could add another layer of depth to it & if you could find a vocal which worked then that would just be the icing on the cake.
Good work. You should continue with it and make it excellent work.
FR
I love the way that everytime i stop by you have a different photo up. I couldn't get rif of my mug shot quick enough.
Anyway, i'm here to talk about the track so here goes. Absolutely fantastic piece of music, Reminds me a little of incognito or maybe Ronnie Jordan. Perfectly blended together pice of Jazz and i'd go as far as saying the best jazz piece i've heard in a long time. The electronic bassline that holds the backbone of the track creates an excellent vibe throughout and compliments all the more natural sounding instruments perfectly.
Outstanding!
FR
Hey FR... again thank you for your continued support on my prjects...and although they're mostly ideas...i look forward to hearing what you have to say about them..thanks man and talk to you soon!
When you said you had a sore throat i was expecting it to be terrible. But it isn't! Ok you can tell your throat went a bit dry in a few places but it gives it a sort of "dylan" kind of flavour (& we all know how sucessful that man was)
Hats off for doing the singer song writer thing. It's a brave and fine effort.
FR
I've been perusing through your tracks and i don't know if you're aware, but this is bloody brilliant mate.
It sounds like there's a little bit of massive attack influence going on there. That vocal is superb and compliments the bas and guitar perfectly.
Really enjoyed this piece and i've downloaded it to enjoy it again.
Top tune!!
FR
Nice melody, This could actually translate nicely into a drum and bass type thing. I would have liked to have heard a few more instruments coming in but i guess this is ultimately just a demo.
Reminds me a little of the Smiths style wise so yeah, looking forward to hearing where this ends up.
FR
This is wicked mate. The vibes got me thinking of magic carpets flying around and genies etc....
I love your drum patterns and variations in that department but i would have liked to have heard you do a bit more with the main riff. If you added an L.F.O. to it and i dunno, maybe introduced a bit of distortion on it later in the track.
It's a good tune but it needs some more variation in it to make it really good.
FR
i'm starting to get into this bluesy sound just off late as i've heard a lot of good numbers from other artists over the past few weeks. You can tell you've listened to a lot of this style as it's all set out very professionally and everything sounds great
What i particularly like is it has a real "smoky room" live feel to it which add's another level of depth and atmosphere.
Great work here. Really enjoyed this piece.
FR
Thanks so much FR :)
Yup, I love my blues & would like to do more.
I spend more time writing lyrics than singing lately, though.
I had a great time dreaming up the lyrics for this, & the music Mark very kindly gave me to play with was superb!!
I'm a big fan of his, so I was truly honoured!
I was surprised at how well this came out, but then I had JoyfulWAVe to mix & master it for me, so that can't be bad, lol!
Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it!
Marie :)
I thought i'd cruise over and check out your tunage as you were nice enough to comment in Mr V's thread.
This makes me feel about five years old again with it's style and old school flavours. I'm not familiar with the origional track but that doesn't stop me from being able to connect with that classic 80's vibe.
Lot's of energy and drama going on all at the same time so there's plenty of positive points going on here.
i have to agree with Mr Maloo about the vocals though. They do get hidden away behind the music at times but aside from that this is a good track and i always think anyone who gets on the mic is far braver than i.
well done.
FR
Thanks!
Yup, our Mr V is a special one!
I didn't know the original either, but I liked it & thought I'd give it a bash.
I agree about the vocals too, & we just might get round to a redo. I recorded it with a stupid wee mic in my lappy, & my voice isnt very loud (OK, my SINGING voice isnt very loud, lol) at the best of times. So JW got a very quiet recording, & had to try to fix that.
Brave? I was petrified, lol!
But it was our first collab, so pretty special to us both.
Thanks for reviewing it
Marie :)
Since i've been enjoying your posts i thought i'd come over and check out your tunage.
This is great. The mix clarity is all on point. Love the vocal and i can't pick fault with it at all.
Did you get that vocal from here? It's not one i've come across before.
Anyway, downloads kind of speak for themselves so have another one on me.
Thanks,
FR
I've not heard this one before. But i will be again. It's straight on to the MP3.
Your style in this reminds me a little of Slash (I mean the guy from gun's n' roses as opposed to the english slang for having a p*ss)
Splendid piece of work my friend as always.
FR
Hey FR,this was a little different for me but then again,I don't know what is "me" lol...I lost me after Chunky and Funky.
It's all good though and I'm glad you cleared up the Slash thing...but hey, whatever makes you feel good and isn't that what it's all about anyway, feeling good!!
I'm a big fan of stuff played in minor keys so i just had to bag myself a copy of this. Cigarettes are bloody expensive, So is everything else. This tune gets me thinking about the demise of capitalism as it all implodes in on it's self and although it's a dark track i find that image strangely satisfying.
This is a great tune mate. Enjoyed from start to finish.
FR
Love this kind of style & you've pulled it off with style and finesse. Lovelly basses, nice delayed sounds and snippets of funky guitar to polish it all off.
I dig the intricateness of this tune, there's loads of stuff going on and you can tell that there's been a lot of time spent on getting this one right.
i can't fault this track and it just HAS to be another download.
Cheers homie.
FR
Hey FR thanx again for checking my sounds out. Yup I did spend a long time on this one and was kinda sad when I realised it was just about finished. Like your kid growing up & leaving home I suppose ? I could always go back though and do a 15 minute remix ha ha ! As ever I really appreciate your kind words & advice. Coming from a fellow Looper whose work I greatly admire I always feel humbled by such positive reviews. Peace, Love & Respect my main man.
Well this is a little bit different. Like that big square bass line. You've belened that vocal in superbly and to me it sounds really good. i can't understand why so many peeps have missed it. It's a brilliant idea.
i guess it just goes like that sometimes. But you know and i know, that this track rocks!!
FR
Saw you was on line and it reminded me i haven't been over to your page for a while (there really is a lot of us isn't there?)
Absolutely love this. It's got a kind of "specials" vibe to it. Your definitely at the top of your game with this style & i reckon if you could find a singer to throw a few words over this you'd be on to even more of a winner.
That's not a complaint by the way. Just saying.
Man what a great tune. This kind of vibe always makes me think of haunted houses and stuff.
It's a brilliant image.
FR
Sounding really good so far mate. It's a little on the short side but then again so is Danny Devito so i guess size is irrelevant.
You've got that silky smoooth sound going on there again and i can see with a few more bars, this is going to have winner written all over it.
Splendid work. I'm glad i have terrible taste in music because i just couldn't compete in these more commercial genres with quality stuff like yours.
FR
FR ...again im just getting back to reply on your wonderful comment...im glad that you find my music acceptable...listening to you and your amazing productions, i take your comments very seriously and i want to put out the best productions possible...once again rhanks for taking the time...i'll be by the FreeRadical zone soon...
First of all is your avatar a photo of the guy who mixed down Justin Biebers last album? That's a great picture.
Man, You've pulled off a piece of musical genius here mate.
You're asking US to comment on the mix? I'm listening to this and thinking "I need to go back to school"
Crystal clear and professional sounding all the way Mahloo. I knew you were good when i head what you did with Wonki's track but do us a favour. Don't post too many tracks because you'll make everyone think they suck lol.
FR
Thank you for the words. Yes the mix is what I wanted to know about as the music was produced by Andrew Cole and the Telefunken team. I was just trying out some new plugins and I wanted to hear some different opinions on it.
Well this is pretty much the exact polar opposite of the last track you posted. That was really angry. This one says i'm all good, i'm chilled and nothing's going to upset me (even finding out that Eddie Sh**s the supporting act for the concert you just bought tickets for)
Tranquility i would say sums this up in one word.
I feel like going to the beach now (not Brighton though. It's filthy and covered in stones)
FR
Yes, you are right FR. Definite opposite to the last track, but just as emotional though for me. I am moved by your insight to this track. Many thanks for listening and taking the time to review. Paul
I'm laughing to myself because your avatar kind of suggests that people are going to be in store for a bit of Antonio Banderas style, Tequila slamming, Mariachi music.
Again you're synth work is really good here (is that a midi guitar you're using?) It's got me thinking UFO landings and little green men. Again the attention to detail is what strikes me about this and musically it's spot on. We just need to get you to focus a little more on your backbeats and stuff and when that happens you're going to be making some killer stuff.
As i said in my last post i can send you some stuff to work with if you like. I think your fancy synth work would compliment what i do really well.
Let me know what you think.
FR
I'm digging what's going down here. It's got me in the mood for a game of "wipeout" because it reminds me a little of that soundtrack.
I always think breakbeat's under rated round here so it's nice that i've landed on a piece of well designed, quality tunage.
Nice one!
I like to home in on tracks that for whatever reason other folks seem to miss (It took me a while to find one on your page)
I can't see why this missed out. We must be playing host to a right bunch of scrooges & grinches on this website since only three people have commented on this most excellent christmas track before me.
The only complaint i have to make about it is that half way through i went out to check the stocking i'd hung up by the chimney before i realized that he aint coming for another nine months!
Who's that singing on the track with you by way? Is that a future star from the Edwards Clan i hear?
It was very cute.
FR
I heard a rumour going round that you'd made a great piece of tunage. It was true!
For some reason this piece has got me thinking vampires in the dessert like in that film "near dark"
Again i'm thinking to myself "spend more time on ableton" i see it's paying off dividends for your music.
Easily the best cinematic piece i've heard for quite some time.
Now you can kick back and reward yourself with a cold one!
FR
thanks FR! big compliments i a m very thankful...been actually trying to pu tthe daw aside and work on bass for a while, noew the two are coming back together again...thanks fo rthe listen!
