You know, one of my most favorite 70's funk bands is RUFUS (the group that brought us Chaka Khan). They produced some amazing instrumentals on some of their albums, and this track definitely takes me back. You have a very keen sense of story telling through music, in my opinion. Your outtro here is brilliant. But, there is a "but" coming...LOL. You sort of lost me from 3:14 to around 3:47. That section seems (to my ear) out of place and a bit disconnected. I don't think it moves the "story" forward. Luckily, though, you brought me right back to the groove, and as I mentioned earlier, the outdo does not disappoint. Overall, how can I not say job well done? The track is a "Killer" in every good sense of the word!

Mykael! Ok so now youre flowing with me! Let me explain.. Ive got some talking drums and a percussive instrument called a My Tube already cued up for the next round. I was hesitant to add them. I have a sliver of space in that frequency range so I have to set them with surgical precision. Lets see how it goes. But again in the Chi dialect You aint said nothing but a word LOL! To say that this track is in the pocket would be a gross understatement. The drum work is outstanding. The piano intro is very smart, and when the track kicks in, it kicks in with a bang (pardon the pun). The interplay between the piano and the percussion is, well, masterful. Than those sweet horns delicately at play in the background. I hear how thought out this piece is, even though it has an off the cuff live jam vibe; which is astounding when you consider that you have crafted this masterpiece from Loops. I cut my teeth singing at open jams here in Chicago. I travailed the circuit for an entire summer. It was tough going as jazz musicians here are very skeptical of singers (some open jazz jams outright ban singers!), but once you've gained their respect (if you ever do, and I did ) the battle is half won. This piece takes me back to that time which I thoroughly enjoyed, learned a lot and I miss very much. I believe this is the best you've EVER done here on Looperman. Well done, Sir!!!!

Yeah I can hear how this would sound with a gospel choir and man, that would totally be awesome. Maybe I can in fact add some more layering to the chorus. I was already thinking to add some brass, but my poor laptop was already struggling with just the tracks this has, so I'll need to use some trickery for that. First I need to improve the vocals a bit more.
And yes I've listened well to you and others who gave advice about lyrics/phrasing (hi Ruben). It takes time for information to sink into my thick skull, but in the end I do listen :)

BaoBou, it isn't a race...steady as she goes, and you WILL get there. I am confident about that. The more music you churn out, the better it all gets...that is what the folks from my Distributor tells us. From my experience, it's true.
Very nice melody. I'm wondering what it would sound like without the vocal layering. I like the character of your voice, there is a faint hint of Bowie in it. You might want to try this to get a better vocal: Divide your song up into parts, maybe one or two lines, breaking it up where it seems natural. Then record each part individually (each multiple times--one or two). When you are done, cut and paste together the best of each part. Sometimes, depending on the vocalist and how well they sing, it's just easier to concentrate of bits rather than an entire song. I hope this helps!

I record now section by section, although I try to make the sections long enough to be coherent but also short enough that I can easily sing them without mistakes.
In any case I need to get rid of the layering and trust my voice more... But I also wouldn't mind to understand the production side of that a bit better ;) I'm taking lessons but I'm such a slow learner...
